Abstract: The physical characteristics, degree, and type of damage of the trail were investigated on 27.28km of 8 major trails in Chilgapsan provincial park. In order to analyze the physical characteristics of the trail, a total of 138points were selected using rapid survey techniques that investigate the routes at regular intervals, and 67points were selected using census techniques that investigate the whole point of damage for the analysis of the degree and type of damage. As a result, the physical characteristics of trails were investigated as follows; 1) 11.0° average slope, 2) 1.6m average trail width, and 3) average bared width of 0.1m. And the degree of damage was found to be 24.51km (89.8%) for “healthy”, 2.04km (7.5%) for “weak”, and 0.73km (2.7%) for “medium”, Therefore, it was determined that the related facilities including trails were relatively stable. Also, the types of damage to trails were investigated the point of root exposure is 59 (39.3%), the trail widens is 39 (26.0%), trail surface erosion is 22 (14.7%), rock exposure is 22 (14.7%), of slope failure is 5 (3.3%), and trail diverged is 3 (2.0%).

Experimental study of movement characteristics for different walking postures in a narrow channel

In the event of a fire, the smoke produced by the fire will not only affect the visibility of pedestrians but also change the pedestrians’ walking posture. The pedestrians’ motion characteristics of stoop walking have not been systematically studied in pedestrian evacuation dynamics. Therefore, a series of single-file movement experiments under controlled laboratory conditions were performed by a transparent protective net which is used to limit the pedestrians’ height to change the walking posture. The probability density distribution of density and speed, the fundamental diagram, headway-speed relation and the lateral sway will be analyzed. The maximum flow rate of pedestrians in stoop walking is 26% lower than that of normal walking in speed-flow relation. Three states (free regime, weakly constrained regime, and strongly constrained regime) can be observed in the relationship between headway and speed, the free speed of pedestrians follows a Gaussian distribution. In addition to discussion of the longitudinal motion characteristics, lateral movement characteristics of the pedestrian will further be analyzed. The study found that the average lateral sway of normal walking is greater than that of stoop walking. The results of this study provide valuable information for the effects of different walking postures and help to develop precise models about different walking postures, which can finally contribute to the design of related pedestrian facilities.

This study aims to determine the competence of administrative staff, the quality of administrative services and to determine the competence of administrative staff in improving administrative services. This research is included in quantitative descriptive research with data collection techniques used are, observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that the competencies possessed by administrative staff in improving the quality of administrative services seen from the aspects of physical evidence, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy were categorized as very good. Based on the results that have been found, it can be seen that the average competence possessed by administrative staff is seen from the dimensions of service quality which include tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy indicates that the competence of his personality It can be seen that the most prominent competence possessed by administrative staff is technical competence while the lowest competence is social competence. The conclusions that can be drawn based on the quality of service seen from the tangibles aspect are that it is necessary to add related facilities, from the reliability aspect, it is good because it has reliability in handling any complaints from students, and is reliable in terms of time and accuracy of service processes. From the aspect of responsiveness, it has been very good because of the mutual communication between administrative staff and administrative staff. Judging from the assurance aspect, there is a guarantee for the security of the service environment as well as a definite guarantee for students provided by administrative staff, while from the empathy aspect, the willingness of the head of administration in serving students is good.

Tracer Gas Test and CFD Analysis of Semiconductor Gas Box for Flammable Gas Leakage

Semiconductor manufacturing is performed through unit processes that use various chemicals and facilities. In particular, flammable gases, such as H2, NH3, and CH4, are used, and there is a risk of explosion when such gases leak. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation and a “tracer gas test” according to the SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International) S6 Environmental, Health, and Safety Guideline for Exhaust Ventilation of Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment specification were performed during the leakage of hydrogen, a highly flammable gas used in the etching process of a gas box in the semiconductor industry. The CFD simulation was conducted to investigate the safety of semiconductor production facilities in relation to the explosion risk. Flow analysis was performed for the interior of a gas box used in the etching process. A steady-state analysis was performed to predict the concentration range of the explosion limit in the case of continuous hydrogen gas leakage. The interior of the gas box used in the simulation was modeled, and the ventilation flow rate, which has a significant impact on the leakage gas concentration distribution, obtained from experiments was used. The lower flammability limit (LFL) value of the leaked gas was 4% based on H2, and LFL/4 (25% of the LFL) was analyzed as the explosion limit concentration according to the acceptance criteria of the SEMI S6 tracer gas test. To validate the CFD simulation, a tracer gas test was performed according to SEMI S6. A mixture of hydrogen (5%) and nitrogen (95%) was used as the tracer gas. The flow rate was controlled by a gas regulator valve and measured using an Aalborg mass flow meter. The measured concentration of the tracer gas was calculated using the equivalent release concentration, which was calculated when 100% of the hydrogen was released, and the risk was assessed by comparing it with the LFL/4 of H2.

Analysis of Urban Growth and Its Impact on Agriculture Land around the Chalisgaon City in Jalgaon District of Maharashtra, India: A Remote Sensing and GIS Based Approach

In India, the agricultural land has tremendously disintegrated which changed the land-use patterns. The agricultural land has declined continuously due to rapid urbanization in the country. In India, nearly 45% of the land cover comes under agriculture area, and 22% is under forest land, whereas this land was drastically decreasing day by day. The main aim of the study is to identify the urban growth along with the land use pattern of Chalisgaon city, situated in the Jalgaon district, of Maharashtra state. This is a comparative study from early 1990 to late 2020. The Landsat images have been used for the years 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020 to identify the change in land use and land cover pattern. These images are processed and analyzed under GIS and maximum likelihood classification method. The Chalisgaon city covers a total of 1850 hectares area. In the last three decades, the total built-up area has increased from 556 hectares to 920 hectares. It is observed that, the urban expansion of the city is a major factor behind the declination the cultivational land area under study. In 1990 the agriculture area was about 1095 hectares that have been reduced to730 hectares in 2020. This study reveals the agricultural land gradually decreased due to encroachment of urban areas i.e., infrastructural, connectivity, population, and other related facilities.

Development and Evaluation of a Software Product Line for M-Learning Applications

The popularity of mobile devices in all social classes has motivated the development of mobile learning (m-learning) applications. The existing applications, even having many benefits and facilities in relation to the teaching-learning process, still presents problems and challenges, es- pecially regarding the development, reuse and architectural standardization. Particularly, there is a growing adoption of the Software Product Line (SPL) concept, in view of research that investigates these gaps. This paradigm enables organizations to explore the similarities and variabilities of their products, increasing the reuse of artifacts and, consequently, reducing costs and development time. In this context, we discuss how systematic reuse can improve the development of solutions in the m-learning domain. Therefore, this work presents the design, development and experimental evaluation of M-SPLearning, an SPL created to enable the systematic production of m-learning applications. Specifically, the conception of M-SPLearning covers from the initial study for an effective domain analysis to the implementation and evaluation of its functional version. In this regard, the products have been experimentally evaluated by industry software developers, pro- viding statistical evidence that the use of our SPL can speed up the time-to-market of m-learning applications, in addition to reducing their respective number of faults.

Implementation of investment projects under investment protection and promotion agreements: Financial issues

Subject. The article addresses financial relations arising from the implementation of Federal Law On Protection and Promotion of Investments in the Russian Federation (FZ-69), as amended. Objectives. The purpose is to identify subjects and objects of financial relations, as well as financial instruments affecting the feasibility of proposed measures of State support to investors during implementation of Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement (IPPA). Methods. We employed general scientific methods of cognition (analysis, generalization, description) and the systems approach to unveil financial and economic relationships between all participants in the process, i.e. Project Implementation Unit (PIU), its counterparties, Public Law Entity (PLE), regulated organizations, and other entities. Results. We determined subjects and objects of financial relationships arising from the IPPA implementation, systematized financial instruments and considered the specifics of their application during the IPPA implementation, identified financial effects from using a stabilization clause and legislation on taxes and fees, examined the impact of amendments to the said law. Conclusions. The findings can be used by subjects of financial relations (in particular, the PIU, creditors, regulated organizations, the PLE) to justify the IPPA feasibility. The proposed recommendations (on discounting the reimbursable costs for creation of related infrastructure facilities, on real damage caused to PIU and losses of PLE, etc.) can be taken into account when making subsequent changes to the current legislation on investment protection and promotion.

Seaport marketing strategies and its impact on customer satisfaction

In the world today, seaports play a crucial role in the economic and environmental sustainability of tourism destination. Seaports and their related facilities of different types and sizes are competing to capture market share globally. This study seeks to investigate the impact of seaport marketing mix strategies on customer satisfaction, identifying the significant marketing mix tactic that should be of focus to cities with seaports. This quantitative research uses deductive approach to develop a proposed model with various hypotheses to be tested. It is considered descriptive research as it seeks to depict the characteristics of a population being studied as well as to answer questions that pertain and explain seaport marketing strategies and its impact on customer satisfaction. Online questionnaires are distributed through convenience sampling during cross-sectional timeframe- December 2021 and January 2022. Results show that seaport-services, promotion, staff, physical evidence, and process has a positive significant impact customer satisfaction with the seaport. Seaport place/distribution and price are insignificant on customer satisfaction. This research is among ongoing attempts to study seaport marketing so to improve the current tourism industry of a nation. The focus is on seaport satisfaction, uncovering the significant marketing mix experiences to propose an effective marketing strategy. This research thus provides a significant addition to marketing knowledge for an increasingly important sector of the tourism industry, illustrating the vitality of the marketing mix and how the marketing mix elements vary from one field to another field.

Thermal Performance of the Thin Heat Pipe for Cooling of Solid-State Drives

With the rapid development of information science and technology, the demand for computer data processing is increasing, resulting in the rapid growth of the demand for high-power and high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs). The stable operation of SSDs plays an important role in ensuring the reliable working conditions and appropriate temperature of information technology equipment, rack servers, and related facilities. However, SSDs usually have significant heat emissions, putting forward higher requirements for temperature and humidity control, and consequently the heat sink system for cooling is essential to maintain the proper working state of SSDs. In this paper, a new type of thin heat pipe (THP) heat sink is proposed, and the heat transfer performance and cooling effect are experimentally and numerically studied. The numerical results are compared with experimental results, which showed an error within 5%. Single and double heat pipes were investigated under different input powers (from 5 W to 50 W) and different placement angles between 0° and 90°. The heat transfer performance of the new heat sink is analyzed by the startup performance, the evaporator temperature, and the total thermal resistance. The results show that the new double THPs with a 90° angle have a great advantage in the heat transfer performance of SSDs. The research is of great significance for the design and optimization of the SSDs’ cooling system in practical applications.

Impact and challenges of enactment for advanced regenerative medicine in South Korea.

The Korean government has enacted the Act on Advanced Regenerative Medicine and Advanced Biological products (ARMAB) in August 2019, and it has been implemented in 2020. We reviewed the changes made by ARMAB compared to the existing Pharmaceutical Affairs Act and discussed future challenges to accelerate regenerative medicine while ensuring safety and efficacy. This act and regulations focused on the key elements of act as follows: the definition of advanced regenerative medicine (RM), the licensing of related facilities, safety management such as long-term follow-up, clinical research review committee, and establishment of a roadmap. Our study shows that Korea has achieved the second highest number of first approvals for regenerative medicine indications worldwide through expedited approvals encouraging innovation, while maintaining patient safety by mandating long-term follow-up. Additionally, the establishment of an interactive system for retrieval of patients' data and reporting of safety information by manufacturers electronically demonstrates Korea’s commitment to innovation for Advanced RM and patient safety.

Dynamic Response and Geogrid Strain Analysis of GRS Retaining Wall

Modular Geogrid Reinforced Soil (GRS) retaining walls, as flexible structures, usually have a certain deformation capacity. However, the deformation damage of the facing panels will directly affect the durability performance of the retaining wall and pose a threat to the safety and operation of the road and related facilities. In order to study the influence of different load factors on the deformation mode and failure characteristics of the retaining wall, an indoor large-scale model test was carried out. The test load considers the average load, peak value, amplitude and frequency of load under traffic load. The changes in settlement and horizontal deformation, geogrid strain and acceleration response of the GRS retaining wall are compared and analyzed. The results show that in the dynamic test, the two wall damage modes are “wall facing outward tilt” and “wall facing outward curved”. The maximum strain of the geogrid was 4.5% and 3.6%, respectively, which did not reach the damage strain. The peak load is the largest mechanical response of all load factors, followed by the load magnitude and average value, and finally the load frequency. In addition, combining the existing GRS retaining wall deformation and earth pressure calculation theory, a set of calculation methods for the strain of tendons under external load is proposed.

Case Study on Damage and Recovery of Water Supply Related Facilities Damaged by Recent Flood Disasters

In recent years, several large-scale flood disasters occurred in Japan. The large-scale flooding causes not only direct damage but also indirect damage due to the closure of lifelines such as water, electricity, roads, and railways, and both impact the affected region’s resilience. Therefore, it is important to understand the current level of disaster resilience and consider non-structural measures accordingly to prepare for the next disastrous event. To assess current disaster resilience requires understanding how each building or lifeline structure is damaged in a disaster and the recovery time. In this study, water supply related facilities are selected from various kinds of lifelines, and a questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate facility damage and recovery after being affected by major flood events occurring in Japan after 2015. A comprehensive study on the damage and recovery of water supply related facilities due to flood has never been conducted, not only in Japan but also worldwide. This is because of difficulty in collecting enough data from many facilities, and thus, there have been reports of damage and recovery of an individual facility, but not more. However, occurrence of several severe flooding disasters in recent years in Japan made it possible to do so. This study dug into not only facility-level damage and recovery but also component level ones based on the quantity of data collected (97 components from 61 facilities) through the questionnaire survey. We found that control panels are most likely to be damaged by flood, and the number of days required for temporary recovery strongly depends on how quikly replacement equipment/parts for failed equipment can be procured.

A spatial analysis of health care accessibility and utilization among rural households in Kogi State, Nigeria

This study was aimed at a Spatial Analysis of Health Care Accessibility and Utilization among Rural Households in Kogi State, Nigeria. Primary data employed in this study were obtained with the aid of well-structured questionnaires. A multi-stage sampling technique was employed in the selection of respondents. The analytical techniques used in this study included descriptive statistics and Healthcare Accessibility Index. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages were used to describe the sources and uses of healthcare facilities in relation to socio-economic characteristics as well as the level of utilization of health care services. Results obtained in this study revealed that 58% of the respondents had access to health care services while only 42.50% utilized these services. Findings in this study also revealed that 71% of the household heads were males while the remaining 29% were females. However, 41% of the male headed households have access to healthcare services compared to 17% of the female headed households. Furthermore, 71% of the respondents were in their economic active age (≤ 50 years). About 75.55% of the respondents within this age bracket accesses and utilizes healthcare service more than the elderly ones. Exactly 43.50% had no formal education while 6, 23.5, 11.5, and 15.5% had adult, primary, secondary and tertiary education respectively. Thirteen percent (13.0%) of those with primary education had access to health care services while 78.57% out of these utilized the healthcare services. Furthermore, 24.5% of those with no formal education had access to healthcare service while 69.23% of the respondents utilized healthcare services. Majority (40.5%) of the rural households lived 5 to 9 km to a public health center with 21% having access to healthcare facilities and 85.7% utilizing the facilities. Eleven percent of respondents living 4 km from the healthcare service provider have access to healthcare facilities while 90.09% of the respondents utilized it. About 13% of the respondent who lives 10 to 14 km from healthcare service had access while 61.11% utilized the services. Forty-three percent (43.75%) of respondents living more than 14 km to their healthcare providers makes use of the available healthcare facilities. The result, therefore, indicates that utilization of available health facilities increases with proximity to the health centers. Seven percent (7%) of respondents have family size of 1-4 members per household, whereas only 60% of the respondents within this group with access to healthcare facilities utilized it. Furthermore, those with household size above 14 members have the highest health service utilization with 85.71%. This study has shown that there is unequal distribution of health facilities as well as low level of accessibility of household to medical facilities in the study area. To this end, governments at all tiers should ensure equitable accessibility to health care delivery across the rural areas by deploying more medical and Para-medical staffs to the rural areas. Rural development policies should promote the creation of enabling environment to enhance participation in modern health care delivery in rural areas. There is also a serious need for sensitization programme to create awareness about the importance of using modern healthcare facilities among the rural dwellers.

Het Pollino Archaeological Landscape Project (PALP)

The Pollino Archaeological Landscape Project. The authors report on a new project, the Pollino Archaeological Landscape Project (PALP) that focuses on landscape and archaeological research of the Pollino mountains. This range is located on the border of the provinces of Basilicata and Calabria in southern Italy and is part of the Pollino National Park, founded in 1993 and declared a UNESCO Geopark in 2015. The objective of the PALP is to reconstruct transhumance routes and to map related seasonal pastoral habitations and facilities in the uplands that were still in use in the recent past, and to study the socio-economic connections with the lower-lying, permanently inhabited parts of the landscape. The results will increase the interpretative potential of archaeological patterns in the landscape studied by GIA researchers in the framework of the Raganello Archaeological Project, of which PALP is an extension.

An Improved Two-Step Floating Catchment Area (2SFCA) Method for Measuring Spatial Accessibility to Elderly Care Facilities in Xi'an, China.

With the continuous aging of society, the demand among elderly citizens for care facilities is increasing. The accessibility of elderly care facilities is a significant indicator for evaluating whether the layout of urban elderly care facilities is reasonable, and research on the spatial accessibility of related facilities has become an important academic issue in recent years. In this paper, based on the lack of accurate measurement in calculating the spatial accessibility of existing elderly care facilities, we improve the mathematical model based on the two-step floating catchment area method (2SFCA) and introduce the probability function of the elderly population’s choice, taking into account the influence of institutional capacity and service quality. In terms of the catchment radius, the calculation accuracy is improved by using the shortest distance along the route combined with the real road network instead of choosing the Euclidean distance. In addition, specific travel thresholds are set for the travel characteristics of the elderly. An evaluation model of the accessibility of urban elderly care facilities is constructed with the help of ArcGIS software to evaluate and analyze the accessibility of the current layout of urban elderly care facilities in Xi’an, China. The results show that the improved 2SFCA model is more effective in evaluating the spatial accessibility of elderly care facilities and has higher accuracy than the previous calculation model, which provides a methodological basis and academic reference for the specific planning of urban elderly care facilities.

Food Security of Temporary Foreign Farm Workers under the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program in Canada and the United States: A Scoping Review

Temporary foreign farm workers (TFWs) are among the most vulnerable and exploitable groups. Recent research shows alarming rates of food insecurity among them. This review explores research focussing on food security of TFWs in Canada and the United States, summarizes findings, and identifies research gaps. Online databases, including MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar, and government and nongovernment websites, and websites of migrant worker-supporting organizations were searched for peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed papers and reports published between 1966 and 2020 regarding food security of TFWs. Articles reviewed were analyzed to determine publication type, country, year, target population, and main findings. Content analysis was performed to identify major themes. Of 291 sources identified, 11 met the inclusion criteria. Most articles (n=10) were based on studies conducted in the United States. The prevalence of food insecurity among TFWs ranged between 28% and 87%. From the content analysis, we formulated 9 themes, representing a diversity of perspectives, including access to resources, income, housing and related facilities, food access, dietary pattern and healthy food choices, and migrant's legal status. Instruments reported for the measurement of food security include USDA Household Food Security Survey Module (HFSSM; n = 8, 72.7%), the modified version of the USDA HFSSM (n = 1, 9%), hunger measure (n = 1, 9%), the modified CDC's NHANES (n = 1, 9%), and 24-h recall, diet history, and/or food-frequency questionnaire (n = 3, 27.3%). Factors impacting food security of TFWs working under the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Programs (SAWPs) in North America are understudied. There is a need to advance research looking particularly at policies and regulatory and administrative aspects of the SAWPs to improve the food security of this cohort. There is also a need for qualitative studies that explore lived experiences and perspectives of TFWs and key informants. Longitudinal studies may be useful to examine various factors, including policy-related, contributing to food insecurity of TFWs over time.

A Study Revitalization of Domestic Private Makerspace: Focusing on the Paradox of Publicity

The Korean government is preparing a plan to spread Korean-style makerspaces in 2017 and is planning to build more than 360 makerspaces by 2022. In the early days of Maker Space, various types of related facilities were created mainly by the private sector. However, a paradox of publicity arose due to the large-scale investment of the public sector centered on the government. In this study, the digital production infrastructure was built through the government's makerspace support policy, but as a side effect, the publicity paradox in which private digital production facilities shrink as a side effect was investigated. Based on these studies, a possible way for makerspace to leap into a digital production community was suggested. Based on these studies, we made two suggestions. First, in order for makerspaces to solve social problems using appropriate new technologies, it is necessary to introduce indicators such as the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ESG. Second, digital devices must be provided to private production communities or organizations. Through this, the makerspace should be reborn as a digital production community centered on residents and regions.

Remaining useful life prediction of lithium-ion batteries based on wavelet denoising and transformer neural network

It is imperative to accurately predict the remaining useful life (RUL) of lithium-ion batteries to ensure the reliability and safety of related industries and facilities. In view of the noise sequence embedded in the measured aging data of lithium-ion batteries and the strong nonlinear characteristics of the aging process, this study proposes a method for predicting lithium-ion batteries’ RUL based on the wavelet threshold denoising and transformer model. To specify, firstly, the wavelet threshold denoising method is adopted to preprocess the measured discharging capacity data of lithium-ion batteries to eliminate some noise signals. Second, based on the denoised data, the transformer model output’s full connection layer is applied to replace the decoder layer for establishing the RUL prediction model of lithium-ion batteries. Finally, the discharging capacity of each charging–discharging cycle is predicted iteratively, and then the RUL of lithium-ion batteries can be calculated eventually. Two groups of lithium-ion batteries’ aging data from the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE) at the University of Maryland and the laboratory at Anqing Normal University (AQNU) are employed to verify the proposed method, individually. The experimental results demonstrate that this method can overcome the impacts of data measurement noise, effectively predict the RUL of lithium-ion batteries, and present a sound generalization ability and high accuracy.

Assessment of healthcare waste management practices among healthcare workers at two hospitals in Abuja, Nigeria

Healthcare waste (HCW) is generated from hospitals or healthcare related facilities and is considered a major source of environmental contamination because it is made up of potentially harmful substances. In developing countries, especially Nigeria, management of HCW is becoming an issue of concern. The main objective of this study was to assess the current HCW management practices at two hospitals in Abuja, Nigeria. This cross-sectional study was conducted from June to July 2018 among randomly selected healthcare workers (HWs) practising at two hospitals in Abuja, Nigeria, using an electronic interviewer-administered questionnaire installed on a smartphone via an open data tool kit. We evaluated the waste segregation practices and assessed the knowledge of HWs regarding HCW in one public secondary and one private tertiary health facility. The status of waste management practice in the health facilities was carried out using the following criteria: waste management (responsibility, segregation, storage and packaging); waste transport; waste recycling and reuse; waste treatment and final disposal. Data gathered were analysed by performing descriptive statistics. Of the 105 health workers interviewed, 69 (65.7%) were females and mostly (44.8%) were within the age group 31-40 years. The proportion of respondents who had received specific training in the management of HCW was 17.1% (18/105). The level of HCW management practices in both facilities was found to be level 2: operating in a manner with some aspects that are considered sustainable. HCW management (HCWM) in Abuja is worth sustainable, especially in resource-limited settings. Hospital Management Board needs to ensure that measures needed to improve the HCWM at hospitals are provided.

Psychological experiences of nurses during COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives

The Maldivian nurses had to face and deal with unique challenges during the coronavirus outbreak. As a result, they often faced extreme psychological pressure as a result of working constantly with a high risk of infection from patients and working in temporary setups with limited resources and manpower who were not well equipped to deal with a pandemic for the first time. This study aimed to explore the psychological experiences of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives. A descriptive qualitative research design was used for this study. Five female nurses working in the COVID-19 related in-patient facilities participated in semi-structured, virtual (telephone or online) interviews. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Three themes emerged from the data analysis: Overwhelming experience, nurses being treated differently, and valuing family support. The participants described the experience of being emotionally overwhelmed. Many experienced feelings of uncertainty and grief, mainly when they had to handle the death of COVID-19 patients under their care. Most significantly when they had to handle the dead bodies in a body bag as it was very painful for the families not being able to perform their last respect and rituals as per cultural practices. The second main theme was nurses’ grievance owing to the differential treatment they were subjected to by the public. When nurses had to go back to their resident islands, the island community was scared of contracting the disease from the nurses and as a result the public rejected interacting with the nurses. This further isolated the nurses subjecting them to loneliness. Finally, family is the most important and valuable support to overcome their psychological burden. Family members including husbands and mothers were very supportive of taking care of the nurses’ children while they worked long hours. The Maldivian nurses in COVID-19 facilities faced psychological adversities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings from this study can help in identifying issues and experiences of nurses, in order to implement appropriate interventions to monitor and support nurses during contagious disease outbreaks.
