This reality is proven to be among Indonesian millennial generation, namely from the many syndromes playing games both offline and online. The rapid development of the world technology with all its features pamper young people more often open social media than reading books. As a result, intellectuality appears to be declining. On the other side, there is prioritize intellectual than spiritual. Here the author will examine how the message of the Qur'an will strive for between spirituality and intellectuality simultaneously, especially in this millennial era. In this study, the type of research use qualitative descriptive where the purpose of this study is to present events or facts, circumstances, phenomena, variables and circumstances that occur during the study by presenting what actually happened. The result of this study is in improving spiritual and intellectual in this millennial era, by implication it is necessary to smoothen 3 things, there are: 1. With Faith 2. Increase all good deeds to Allah 3. Always increase the pieties. These three concepts are expected to deepen spiritually and improve intellectually in this millennial era

Navigating Uncharted Territory: A Qualitative Analysis of Challenges and Advantages Experienced by Early Career Medical Educators

AbstractWith the growing demand for medical educators, it is increasingly important that institutions implement practices to recruit, retain, and promote the well-being of early career medical educators (ECMEs). However, the specific needs of this group remain somewhat unclear. The current study aimed to address this gap by utilizing qualitative analysis to identify challenges and advantages associated with ECME status. An anonymous, voluntary survey was administered on forums of professional societies for medical education and on social media platforms, and emailed to professional societies. The survey collected demographic information and qualitative data regarding ECMEs’ experiences. Data were collected from 39 participants who met the ECME criteria of having less than or equal to 10 years of teaching experience since obtaining a terminal degree. Thematic analysis revealed that the challenges of early career faculty were difficulty balancing responsibilities, lack of research and educational support, perceived inadequacies as a faculty member, and development of workplace friendships. The advantages were the ability to understand students, possessing specific knowledge and skills, and the ability to innovate. ECME professional development needs focused on development of skills, networking, and support. In conclusion, ECMEs encounter similar struggles faced by all medical educators; however, they have the least amount of experience navigating the hurdles of academia. To aid ECMEs, institutions and departments can focus on the implementation of meaningful professional development opportunities, support systems, and encouraging ECMEs’ strengths.

Rumor detection model with weighted GraphSAGE focusing on node location

While social media platforms promote people’s information exchange and dissemination, they also make rumors spread rapidly on online platforms. Therefore, how to detect rumors quickly, timely and accurately has become a hot topic for scholars in related fields. Traditional deep learning models ignore the relationship and topology between nodes in the rumor detection task and use fixed weights or mean aggregation strategies in the feature aggregation process, which fail to capture the complex interactions between nodes and the dynamics of information propagation, limiting the accuracy and robustness of the rumor detection model. To address these problems, we propose a location-aware weighted GraphSAGE rumor detection model GSMA. We first introduce an attention mechanism that dynamically assigns different attention weights to different neighboring nodes for different degrees of aggregation, improving GraphSAGE’s strategy of using mean-value aggregation for all neighboring nodes during the aggregation process; second, we introduce a modulated position encoding into the model and encode the position information of nodes into the features to improve the model’s ability to perceive the relative position and order of nodes; finally, the post text sentiment is incorporated into the features to provide additional semantic information for the model as a way to achieve rumor detection in microblogging platforms. Experiments show that the accuracy of the GSMA model on Ma-Weibo and Weibo23 reaches 97.43% and 97.55%, which is an improvement of 1.11% and 0.77% compared to the benchmark GraphSAGE, and all the evaluation metrics are also improved compared to other optimal rumor detection models.

Using civically engaged research to understand the strategic dynamics of social media outreach

ABSTRACT Racial justice organizations often operate in contentious and volatile environments with intense resource demands. This reality was especially apparent in 2020, when a global pandemic, social uprisings, and a relatively provocative presidential election drastically altered racial justice organizations' capacity to engage with their constituents. This paper details how we, a team of political science researchers, applied civically engaged research (CER) principles in collaboration with two local racial justice organizations to understand the strategic dynamics of social media outreach, particularly during hostile and challenging times. This paper advances collective and practical understandings of how CER can proceed, particularly as researchers navigate complexities such as defining reciprocity and developing partnerships. Further, we present five main lessons learned throughout our CER process. Overall, we highlight how CER can improve collaborations with vulnerable communities navigating challenging political environments and how CER can better inform academic research on the strategic dynamics of social media outreach.

Effect of Explanation Conceptualisations on Trust in AI-assisted Credibility Assessment

As misinformation increasingly proliferates on social media platforms, it has become crucial to explore how to best convey automated news credibility assessments to end-users, and foster trust in fact-checking AIs. In this paper, we investigate how model-agnostic, natural language explanations influence trust and reliance on a fact-checking AI. We construct explanations from four Conceptualisation Validations (CVs) - namely consensual, expert, internal (logical), and empirical - which are foundational units of evidence that humans utilise to validate and accept new information. Our results show that providing explanations significantly enhances trust in AI, even in a fact-checking context where influencing pre-existing beliefs is often challenging, with different CVs causing varying degrees of reliance. We find consensual explanations to be the least influential, with expert, internal, and empirical explanations exerting twice as much influence. However, we also find that users could not discern whether the AI directed them towards the truth, highlighting the dual nature of explanations to both guide and potentially mislead. Further, we uncover the presence of automation bias and aversion during collaborative fact-checking, indicating how users' previously established trust in AI can moderate their reliance on AI judgements. We also observe the manifestation of a 'boomerang'/backfire effect often seen in traditional corrections to misinformation, with individuals who perceive AI as biased or untrustworthy doubling down and reinforcing their existing (in)correct beliefs when challenged by the AI. We conclude by presenting nuanced insights into the dynamics of user behaviour during AI-based fact-checking, offering important lessons for social media platforms.

The article addresses the development of data collection technologies and the complexities that challenge this process. Methods for focusing at various levels are discussed, ranging from managing scanning boundaries to leveraging diverse properties of web pages. Here, the term "focusing" is used to accurately reflect the specific characteristics of targeted data collection and processing of open social media data. This process is multi-stage, employing adaptive control mechanisms that adjust dynamically toward the specified objective. During control, these defined constraints are either narrowed or broadened to align with the target goal. The article also presents insights from the design of an information system’s architecture and software, enabling automated, focused collection and processing of open social media data.

Trouble in Paradise? Understanding Mastodon Admin's Motivations, Experiences, and Challenges Running Decentralised Social Media

Decentralised social media platforms are increasingly being recognised as viable alternatives to their centralised counterparts. Among these, Mastodon stands out as a popular alternative, offering a citizen-powered option distinct from larger and centralised platforms like Twitter/X. However, the future path of Mastodon remains uncertain, particularly in terms of its challenges and the long-term viability of a more citizen-powered internet. In this paper, following a pre-study survey, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 16 Mastodon instance administrators, including those who host instances to support marginalised and stigmatised communities, to understand their motivations and lived experiences of running decentralised social media. Our research indicates that while decentralised social media offers significant potential in supporting the safety, identity and privacy needs of marginalised and stigmatised communities, they also face considerable challenges in content moderation, community building and governance. We emphasise the importance of considering the community's values and diversity when designing future support mechanisms.

Development of a creative digital curriculum for the elderly: A participatory approach to enhance potential for alternative career opportunities in the digital era

This research aimed to develop a curriculum for empowering the elderly to create alternative careers in the digital society era through digital platforms and to study the effects of the curriculum and online educational channels on enhancing the elderly’s capabilities. Participatory Action Research (PAR) methods combined with qualitative and quantitative approaches were employed in this study. The study involved 555 participants including personnel and elderly individuals in Lampang Province that were selected by using multi-stage sampling. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data and compare the group mean by t-test. The research findings revealed that the “Creative Digital Retirees” curriculum for empowering the elderly to use digital technology, digital media literacy and utilizing digital media to create alternative careers met the effective criteria, the 80/80 efficiency criteria with E1 = 80.00 and E2 = 87.16. The effective curriculum consists of five learning units including Unit 1: Using technology media for the elderly, Unit 2: Understanding and digital literacy for the elderly, Unit 3: Creating social media for the elderly, Unit 4: Accessing, efficient use of technology and technology management for the elderly, and Unit 5: Electronic law. The elderly’s capabilities significantly improved at a significance level of 0.05. For curriculum users’ satisfaction, the result showed the highest level of satisfaction with an average score of 4.59. It is concluded that the curriculum is effective and can genuinely enhance the elderly’s learning achievements.

Disciplines for Female in Bra Advertisements of China Brands

This article selects two representative bra brands in China- Cosmo Lady and Neiwai. The case study method is used to comparatively analyze advertising content in the form of pictures and videos posted by the two brands on the social media platform Weibo. The respective changes were researched from the longitudinal comparison point of view, while the similarities and dissimilarities, in terms of promotional methods, theme expression, and so forth, between the two brands were compared. The results of the analysis above are separated into three sections in the article, which are the focus on the promotion of product design, female images presented by amateur or unknown models, and celebrities selected by brands. It is found that both brands consciously incorporate feminism into their advertisement. In general, the awakening of body and self-awareness conveyed by Neiwai conforms to the essence of feminism more than Cosmo Lady. However, the discipline towards women has become even more subtle, hidden in the logic and semiotics meanings of the subtext. Furthermore, driven by economic interests, consumerism in bra advertisements simplifies and distorts feminism gradually.

Analysis of the Role of Digital Marketing in the Development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Cibinong District

This study aims to analyze the role of digital development marketing in supporting the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Cibinong District. Along with the increasing internet penetration and use of social media, digital marketing has become a strategic tool to increase market reach and competitiveness of MSMEs. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection through interviews, observations, and literature studies. The results of the study indicate that MSMEs that implement digital marketing are able to increase sales, expand market share, and strengthen product branding. However, there are still obstacles in the form of a lack of digital knowledge and access to technology, especially among micro-scale MSMEs. Therefore, support is needed from the government and related institutions to improve digital literacy and provide infrastructure that supports the development of digital marketing in this region. Overall, the role of digital marketing for MSMEs in Cibinong District is very significant in increasing competitiveness, efficiency, and market reach. However, to maximize this potential, collaborative efforts are needed between MSME actors, the government, and technology service providers so that existing challenges can be overcome properly. This study is expected to be a reference for the development of effective digital marketing strategies for MSMEs in Cibinong District.

The Search for Paxlovid: Medication Acquisition as Anticipation Work After China's Zero-COVID Policy

In early December 2022, China's zero-COVID policy came to an end. For Chinese citizens, an imaginary of safety predicated on collective action and state care was replaced with a general focus on individualized responsibility for maintaining one's health. This expedited policy reversal had the unintended effect of infecting around 80% of China's population in one month, leading to a period of confusion, anxiety, and infection. One way of obtaining safety in a precarious time was to acquire medical resources. Through an online ethnographic investigation, we trace the acquisition of Paxlovid, an antiviral medication that had its distribution within China complicated by geopolitical tension and supply issues. By attending to the precarity of Chinese citizens at home and abroad, we show how Paxlovid was desired in both the present tense for the presently ill and in the future tense as an anticipatory form of safety. We use the analytical lens of anticipation work to unpack individual, collective, and state anticipatory practices supported by various social media platforms within and across borders. In doing so, we highlight moments of friction between and among various actors to argue that attending to affect, precarity, and practices in moments of conflict is critical to understanding the complexities of computer-supported cooperative work.

El costo de la independencia: Latino house-cleaners in Technology-Mediated Labour Markets

This paper explores the interplay between identity, collective action, and digital marketplaces among Latino house-cleaners in Toronto. Domestic work, such as house-cleaning, has traditionally been devalued, gendered, and delegated to marginalised immigrant populations. The informal nature of house-cleaning work, also introduces precarity, vulnerabilities and potential avenues of exploitation. Drawing on 19 interviews with Latino house-cleaners, the paper underscores how identity shapes experiences and strategies in the labour markets. We find that Latino house-cleaners prefer to use asynchronous digital marketplaces, such as social media commerce groups and online classified advertisement websites, as the platforms provides flexibility and control over their labour outcomes. The paper further delves into how group identities online - such as being Latino and women - foster collective action and solidarity. The paper provides insights on how we can support the needs support the challenges and needs of immigrant domestic workers in technology-mediated labour markets.

"We're not all construction workers": Algorithmic Compression of Latinidad on TikTok

The Latinx diaspora in the United States is a rapidly growing and complex demographic who face intersectional harms and marginalizations in sociotechnical systems and are currently underserved in CSCW research. While the field understands that algorithms and digital content are experienced differently by marginalized populations, more investigation is needed about how Latinx people experience social media and, in particular, visual media. In this paper, we focus on how Latinx people experience the algorithmic system of the video-sharing platform TikTok. Through a bilingual interview and visual elicitation study of 19 Latinx TikTok users and 59 survey participants, we explore how Latinx individuals experience TikTok and its Latinx content. We find Latinx TikTok users actively use platform affordances to create positive and affirming identity content feeds, but these feeds are interrupted by negative content (i.e. violence, stereotypes, linguistic assumptions) due to platform affordances that have unique consequences for Latinx diaspora users. We discuss these implications on Latinx identity and representation, introduce the concept of algorithmic identity compression, where sociotechncial systems simplify, flatten, and conflate intersection identities, resulting in compression via the loss of critical cultural data deemed unnecessary by these systems and designers of them. This study explores how Latinx individuals are particularly vulnerable to this in sociotechnical systems, such as, but not limited to, TikTok.

Governance of the Black Experience on Reddit: r/BlackPeopleTwitter as a Case Study in Supporting Sense of Virtual Community for Black Users

Despite frequent efforts to combat racism, almost no research has explored how to cultivate positive experiences of thriving Black culture on Reddit. In this case study, we surveyed users of r/BlackPeopleTwitter (BPT)--a large, popular subreddit that showcases screenshots of hilarious or insightful social media posts made by Black people (mainly from Black Twitter). Our research questions seek to understand users' motivations for visiting BPT, how they experience a sense of virtual community (SOVC) and membership in BPT, and how BPT's governance influences these experiences. We find that that users come to BPT primarily for excellent humor and entertainment, sociopolitical context on issues relevant to Black people, and/or partaking in the shared Black experience. Black users are more likely to report higher SOVC and to identify as members, whereas non-Black users are more likely to identify as guests or visitors to the community. To protect Black expression, the BPT moderation team implemented a governance strategy for verifying racial identity and limiting participation to only verified users in certain threads. Our data suggest that this policy is a contentious but influential aspect of SOVC that simultaneously constructs and challenges the sense of the subreddit existing as a safe space for Black people. We synthesize these results by discussing how: differing platform affordances across Twitter and Reddit combine to cultivate a thriving Black community on Reddit; the need for Black authenticity on an otherwise anonymous platform can guide future research in identity verification; and the limitations of this study motivate future work to support all marginalized communities online.

ANALYSING DETERMINANTS OF HOUSEHOLD BROILER CHICKEN MEAT PURCHASES AMIDST SOCIAL-MEDIA MISINFORMATION: A TOBIT STUDY

The Indian poultry sector significantly boosts GDP. It is grown at 8-10% annually, reaching $22.97 billion in 2022, expected to hit $41.94 billion (10.18% CAGR) from 2023 to 2028. Social media misinformation adversely affected the broiler sector, lowering prices and consumption. Using the Tobit Model, this study analysed Indian households' broiler chicken purchases during misinformation. Data on demographics, socioeconomics, and monthly consumption of chicken meat was collected from 503 respondents and analysed. On average, men favoured broiler chicken, while women preferred native chicken. The potential impact of social media misinformation on women's choices and the influence on households with senior citizens, which consumed significantly less quantity compared to their counterparts, remained intriguing. Unexpectedly, households with better incomes and more education purchased less broiler meat. Marital status, place of residence, cohabitation, and presence of children did not significantly affect the outcome. Muslim families purchased more broiler chicken meat, and larger households consumed more. Consumption frequency was important, with daily and alternate-day customers making larger purchases. Purchases of broiler meat were negatively impacted by the consumption of country chicken. Amidst social media misinformation, while a slight adverse impact on household broiler consumption may have occurred, it's notable that a significant portion of households (97.20%) continued to purchase broiler chicken meat, exhibiting the potential effectiveness of media-driven interventions in mitigating the impact of misinformation and reiterated the persistent favourability for broiler chicken as a dietary protein choice within the larger consumer demographic. The Indian poultry industry is vital for food security and economic growth, making it imperative to address social media-induced panic. Transparency, trust, and accurate information transmission are essential. In order to effectively handle market challenges, stakeholders need to take into account factors like demography and dietary preferences that impact consumer behaviour.

Do Robinhood investors care about ESG?

ABSTRACT In this paper, we investigate whether Robinhood investors consider environmental, social and governance issues in their investment decisions. Based on stock holdings from May 2018 to August 2020, we find that Robinhood investors hold stocks with high ESG risk and low ESG performance relative to the benchmark. The findings reveal a clear difference in ESG preference between Robinhood investors and other retail investors. Moreover, we find that Robinhood investors tend to increase stock holdings around negative ESG incidents. Nevertheless, we show that the increase in stock holdings is mainly driven by the high intensity of social media coverage in the stocks. The findings suggest that Robinhood investors, while not pro-ESG, are not necessarily anti-ESG as they herd on speculative and high-attention stocks.

Globalization and the Borrowing of “Weekend” from English into Arabic

This study was driven by the observed prevalence of the English word “weekend” among Arab speakers, whether in informal written or spoken communication. It aimed to examine the current status of this foreign word and determine if it is ready to be integrated into the Arabic lexicon. The study relied on a linguistic corpus including contexts containing the Arabized version of “weekend”- “?????” on the popular social media X-platform. This data was supplemented by a questionnaire distributed to 316 Arabs and a comprehensive survey of the status of English as the dominant language in the era of globalization. The analysis revealed an intriguing linguistic phenomenon. The data showed that the word “weekend” is linguistically prepared for integration into the Arabic vocabulary system. However, this integration is still being resisted, as most Arabs expressed their disagreement with the word officially joining their lexicon. While they acknowledged their widespread use of the word and its convenience compared to the native equivalent, they insist on maintaining the Arabic phrase "????? ????? ???????" /'ij?zat nih?yat al-'usb??/. The study concludes that the potential entry of “weekend” into Arabic depends on the conflict between globalization and the increasing acceptance of the word on the one hand, and the rejection by the majority to preserve the Arab identity. Any future societal trends towards accepting this word will pave the way for its integration, as it is already linguistically prepared.
