This article examines the moral message of family in the anime film "One Piece: Red". The film "One Piece: Red" is a popular anime film released in 2022. This film also raises the theme of family and the relationships between members of a pirate crew. This research uses Roland Barthes semiotic analysis to examine the moral message of family in the film "One Piece: Red". Barthes semiotics views signs as systems of meaning that are structured and bound by certain rules. The aim of this research is to recognize and analyze the symbols and indicators contained in films that show family values. This film explores the fundamental meaning behind the images and narrative through Roland Barthes semiotic technique, which distinguishes between denotation and connotation. "One Piece: Red" continues to highlight the value of family members' support, sacrifice and unity. This film shows how family ties can be a source of strength in the face of adversity through the nuances of its characters and plot. This research adds to our knowledge of how popular anime can communicate important social and cultural values.

The impact of COVID-19 on international education: challenges, adaptations, cross-cultural experiences, and globalization

The COVID-19 pandemic remarkably impacted international education, creating countless challenges while also driving adaptation and growth. This paper explores the pandemic's effects on teaching and learning, particularly in higher education, focusing attention on challenges such as technical infrastructure deficiencies, inequalities in access to education, and the psychological impacts on students and educators. It also scrutinizes how institutions adapted through digital transformation, innovative pedagogies, and service learning. Additionally, the paper discusses the role of cross-cultural experiences and globalization in navigating these challenges, emphasizing the importance of cultural engagement and linguistic diversity in fostering a globally interconnected educational environment. By reflecting on these adaptations, this study contributes to understanding how crises can reshape education systems and promote innovation in the face of adversity.

Exposure to warfare and demoralization: acute stress symptoms and disengaged coping as mediators

ABSTRACT Background: Demoralization in the face of adversity is a common existential state. However, it has not been examined in reaction to warfare, and the mediators between the extent of exposure to war and demoralization in this context are also unknown. Objective: This study explored the associations of indirect exposure to war, acute stress symptoms, disengaged coping, and demoralization. Additionally, it examined the serial mediation of acute stress symptoms and disengaged coping in the relationship between indirect exposure to war and demoralization. Method: The survey was conducted 4 weeks after the 7 October war broke out and included 393 Israeli citizens (women and men, Jews and Arabs) indirectly affected by the threatening situation in Israel. Questionnaires measured acute stress symptoms, disengaged coping, and demoralization. War-related exposure and demographic data were collected. Results: The analysis revealed that the higher the indirect exposure to war, the higher the acute stress symptoms, use of disengaged coping, and demoralization. Additionally, individuals with acute stress disorder had higher demoralization. The serial mediation model showed partial mediation: acute stress symptoms and the use of disengaged coping mediated the relationships between indirect exposure to war and demoralization (although the direct association between the extent of exposure and demoralization remained significant). Conclusions: In the face of traumatic events, such as warfare, professionals should identify individuals with high levels of acute stress symptoms and provide help to reduce the use of disengaged coping and long-term negative consequences such as demoralization.

This paper explores how literary texts, spanning different genres and historical contexts, offer insights into the human condition and model resilience in the face of adversity. By examining the works of authors such as William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Toni Morrison, and Haruki Murakami, this study highlights how stories and characters from diverse cultural and temporal backgrounds provide timeless lessons in resilience. Through literary analysis and thematic exploration, this paper argues that literature serves not only as a mirror reflecting the struggles of its time but also as a guiding light, offering strategies and perspectives for cultivating resilience in an ever-changing world.

Do bufão ao palhaço de hospital: trajetórias do ridículo em uma sociedade de espetáculo

The study presents reflections on the historical relevance of buffoons through an analysis of the artistic and social view from the buffoon to the hospital clown. The subject is discussed in four topics: The mask, the actor, and the audience; The buffoon and the expression of ridicule; The spectacle and the indication of ridicule; and Laughter in the society of the spectacle. The hospital clown promotes a reflection that is similar to that of the buffoon, but the interaction with the audience must present a spectacle of comicality with an ethical stance. It is possible to laugh at oneself in the face of adversity, at the sick body, but respecting the patient, and at postures of professional superiority concerning care, as a way of reversing the logic of power without questioning one’s professionalism, with an equal degree of protagonism.

Evaluation of the relationship between adversity quotient, professional identity, and perceived humanistic care of head nurses in Master’s Degrees in nursings

ABSTRACT Background: High-level nursing talents play an important role in solving nursing scientific problems and leading nursing innovation, so the construction of high-level nursing talents has become a necessary guarantee for the health strategy in the new era. Managers have high expectations for master’s degree in nursing, hoping that they will develop in all aspects of research, teaching, and professionalism, etc. However, the high expectations of managers have led to unclear job orientation, high clinical and scientific research pressure, and low recognition of nurses’ sense of professional value from the outside world, which have led to the lowering of master’s degree of professional identity and the tendency to leave the profession, which is not conducive to the stabilization of the nursing workforce. Purpose: To explore the influence of adversity quotient, perceived humanistic care of nurse leaders on professional identity of nursing masters, and to clarify the relationship model between the three. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to conduct an online questionnaire survey on 160 master’s degree nursing students in Ningbo and Shanghai from July to September 2022 using the general information questionnaire, adversity quotient, career identity and perceived humanistic care of nurse leaders scale. Results: Adversity quotient, occupational identity and perceived humanistic care of nurse leaders were all at a moderate level. Adversity quotient (r = 0.430, P < 0.01), perceived humanistic care of nurse leaders (r = 0.443, P < 0.01) and occupational identity were positively correlated, and perceived humanistic care of nurse leaders could affect occupational identity through the mediating effect of adversity quotient, with the mediating effect accounting for 31.8%. Conclusion: Nursing managers should create a good organizational atmosphere, build a training system for adversity quotient courses, conduct regular assessment and humanistic care to improve the ability of nursing masters to face adversity and enhance the awareness of their own professional values.

THEORIZING FORTITUDE: PERSPECTIVES FROM GSA’S ARTS, HUMANITIES, AND CULTURAL GERONTOLOGY ADVISORY PANEL

Abstract This symposium explores the impact of arts and humanities on cultural narratives of aging. Through the lens of theory-based examples, the authors argue for reaching beyond orthodox engines of gerontological exploration, such as medical research and the social sciences, to develop a more nuanced gerontology. However, moving beyond the arts-as-intervention model is not without pitfalls. Here, theoretical explorations challenge conventional ways of knowing by offering new insights into how cultural narratives of aging can be interpreted and shaped through the lens of the arts and humanities from a theoretical standpoint. Ultimately, the symposium suggests that fortitude, that is, courage in the face of adversity, resonates both as we travel through life facing our own challenges, and as the field of gerontology seeks to understand diverse human experiences of aging.

FEATURES OF PSYCHOLOGICAL EDUCATION IN UKRAINE DURING THE WAR AND POST-WAR RECOVERY

The ongoing war in Ukraine and the ensuing post-war recovery have significantly transformed the nation’s educational and mental health systems. Psychological education has emerged as a vital field, addressing the escalating demand for mental health support, trauma recovery, and resilience-building among affected populations. This article explores the transformative adaptations of psychological education in Ukraine, including the integration of trauma-informed practices, the use of advanced therapeutic methods, and international collaborations. These efforts aim to equip professionals with the necessary skills to foster individual and societal healing in the face of adversity. This study aims to examine the distinctive features and adaptations of psychological education in Ukraine during the war and the post-war recovery period. Specifically, it seeks to identify strategies employed to address widespread trauma, enhance resilience, and promote societal healing. The article also highlights the role of trauma-informed education, community-based mental health initiatives, and global partnerships in shaping these educational transformations. The study employs a qualitative review methodology, synthesizing data from academic literature, institutional reports, and global frameworks on psychological education and mental health strategies. The analysis reveals several key features of psychological education in Ukraine during the war and post-war recovery: crisis-oriented curricula; practical training; remote learning and digital tools; resilience and coping mechanisms; cultural sensitivity and contextual adaptation; global collaborations. The article underscores the need for ongoing research to refine trauma-informed education and evaluate its long-term impact on both students and educators. Psychological education in Ukraine has undergone significant transformation, addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by war and recovery. By integrating advanced therapeutic practices, fostering community resilience, and leveraging global collaborations, Ukraine has established a robust framework for addressing mental health needs in conflict-affected regions. These efforts not only aid immediate recovery but also lay the foundation for a resilient and psychologically aware society.

How Latine youth's positive development unfold through farmwork in rural migrant farmworker families in the U.S. Midwest.

Some Latine youth from rural migrant farmworker communities engage in farmwork to help support themselves and their families. Although research has documented their motives for working and some characteristics of their employment, knowledge about how these youth construct their work in the fields and how such experiences relate to their positive development is needed to depict their holistic experiences. Using mixed methods, we explored youth's farmwork experiences and examined how these experiences relate to youth's prosocial behaviors, civic responsibility, and ego-resiliency. Data are from a mixed-method study of Latine youth and parents in rural and agricultural families in the U.S. Midwest. The present study uses qualitative data from a subsample of 47 youth (Mage = 11.42, 48.8% boys) who participated in interviews and survey activities. Thematic coding of the interviews revealed sociocognitive, socioemotional, skilled-related, and physical experiences, as well as prosocial considerations that included perspective taking, moral reasoning, and empathetic concern. Integrating qualitative and quantitative data showed that these experiences were distinctively associated with higher other-oriented and lower self-oriented prosocial behaviors and higher ego-resiliency. Further, farmworker youth also showed significantly lower civic efficacy, indicating that farmwork may discourage some aspects of civic responsibility. The results can inform policy and program designs on promoting Latine youth's positive development in the face of adversity, such as by highlighting character development and bridging youth engagement with civic spheres.

Unveiling the Elements of a Fairy Tale: An Exploration of Proppian Narrative Functions in A Thousand Splendid Suns

In contemporary literature, Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns has often been celebrated for its everlasting appeal of storytelling. This study aims to identify the narrative functions of a fairy tale existing in the structure of the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns. To serve this purpose, the study examines the plot of the novel through the lens of Vladimir Propp’s narrative theory presented in Morphology of Folktale. The current research maps the plot development of the novel onto Propp’s narrative schema. Hence, through the rigorous examination of the plot’s schematic description, the findings of the study discern the presence of twenty-one out of twenty-two archetypical functions of a fairy tale. Moreover, the key features of fairy tales, i.e., absentation of parents from their children’s life and the lack of parental affection, are also salient characteristics of this novel, as they play a major role in the progression of the plot. Lastly, by highlighting the subtle existence of fairy tale(s) structures in the plot, the paper foregrounds the domination, yearning and hope for fairy tales in the real life of human beings. These findings imply a deeper cultural and psychological significance, as they reveal how traditional fairy tale structures continue to resonate with contemporary narratives, bridging timeless storytelling patterns with modern societal issues. This suggests that such structures provide a universal framework for understanding human experiences, emotions, and resilience in the face of adversity. Finally, the study would be beneficial for all those who want to study and conduct research in the field of Structuralism and narratology.

Ciudadanía territorial frente al hambre: el rol de las ollas comunes en la estrategia Agustibarrio del distrito de El Agustino, Lima Metropolitana, durante la pandemia por el Covid 19

The article presents qualitative research on territorial citizenship in the neighborhoods of Santa Isabel and El Independiente, in the district of El Agustino, Lima. It analyzes how the Agustibarrio Strategy, specifically the actions of women in community kitchens, exemplify rooted territorial citizenship driven by local knowledge and collaboration among local actors. Furthermore, it highlights how their community participation becomes a form of resistance in the face of adversity, emphasizing the importance of social support networks in daily activities to combat hunger during the Covid-19 pandemic. The document is organized into five sections: an introduction where the objectives and conceptual framework that accompanies the research analysis are set out; a section that describes the methodology carried out; then the results and the analysis itself; and finally, the conclusions.

Biostimulants: Mitigation strategy for salinity stress in fruit crops

The burgeoning specter of abiotic stresses caused by global climate change, including drought, salt, extremely high temperatures, heavy metals and UV radiation, has rendered fragile agroecosystems increasingly precarious. This has reduced the production and quality of fruit crops. The burden on plants might be even worse if several stressors occur at once. These multifarious stressors have led to a 70 % reduction in annual agricultural production globally, sparking the embers of food scarcity and stoking the fires of hunger within our ever-expanding populace. However, within this seemingly hopeless situation, a number of alternatives have surfaced as a glimmer of light. Biostimulants, derived from natural or organic sources, enhance plant development and resilience by enhancing their capacity to absorb nutrients, withstand stress and sustain overall health. The exogenous application of biostimulants on an organic basis has emerged as a powerful treatment for certain of them, promoting plant growth and production in the face of adversity. These biostimulants work across a wide range of pathways, composing a symphony of resistance to stress-related difficulties. Only a few papers have provided information on plant biostimulants’ impacts on fruit quality, which is connected to appearance, chemical composition and physical characteristics. The objective of this review is to assess the efficacy of externally applied organic biostimulants in improving plant growth and productivity, especially in challenging environments. These biostimulants enhance plant resilience, nutrient absorption and overall health, providing a sustainable solution to agricultural difficulties. They also have a sustainable appeal since they are organic, satisfying the desire of customers who are concerned about the advantages of eating healthier food.

Using Positive Deviance as an Approach in Action Research to Optimize Parental Learning Assistance for Children with Disabilities

The aim of this research is to assist parents of children with disabilities in optimizing the learning support they provide by leveraging the knowledge and experiences of those who have successfully improved their children's learning outcomes. The positive deviance methodology was selected for its ability to facilitate the transfer of effective strategies among participants. This methodology was employed as an action research approach, with each step focused on finding solutions to the identified problems. The study involved 20 parents of children with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder residing in Sidoarjo. Qualitative data were collected through interviews, focus group discussions, observations, and parents’ activity documentation submitted via Google Forms. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The research identified several strategies to enhance parental learning assistance for children with disabilities by first identifying common challenges faced by these parents. Additionally, the study demonstrates that the positive deviance approach is applicable to any community, encouraging other communities to explore various potential solutions in the face of adversity without relying on external assistance.

Influences of emotional intelligence on resilience in the South African entrepreneurial sector: a systematic literature review

The South African entrepreneurial sector is essential to the country's economic growth, job creation, and innovation. South African entrepreneurs encounter competitive business environment, limited resources, and socioeconomic gaps. Building resilience is critical for them to overcome challenges, adapt to change, and sustain their businesses in the face of adversity. This paper aims to explore the connection between resilience and emotional intelligence in the context of South African entrepreneurship. A systematic literature review and text analysis was carried out. This systematic literature analysis analysed 37 peer-reviewed sources that explored the impact of emotional intelligence on resilience in the South African entrepreneurial sector. Textual analysis was used to discover themes, patterns, and implications for increasing entrepreneurial resilience. Inclusion criteria included English-language research published during the last decade that focused on emotional intelligence and resilience in entrepreneurship. Non-peer-reviewed papers, grey literature, and those that did not directly address the South African context were excluded. Key findings show that emotionally intelligent leaders are better able to manage stress, build trusted relationships, and adjust to changing circumstances, which improves corporate results and ensures sustainability in a changing economic climate. This paper concludes that emotional intelligence is critical in determining the resilience and success of entrepreneurs in the South African entrepreneurial sector. Recommendations stemming from the results encompass integrating emotional intelligence training courses into entrepreneurial curricula, cultivating a nurturing and emotionally astute workplace, and encouraging self-awareness and emotional regulation proficiencies among prospective and established entrepreneurs in South Africa.

Wāhine Māia - Being bold, courageous and persistent in the face of adversity

In 2023, Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology launched a pilot initiative, ‘Wāhine Māia,’ to create space for ākonga wāhine (female students) studying towards a trade programme traditionally dominated by males. Building on some early successes, in 2024 we have maintained the kaupapa Māori framework and the collaborative mahi (work), and we will continue to evolve the format. The aim is to foster student retention and success through regular wānanga (workshops), whanaungatanga (networking) and wheako (sharing experiences). Wāhine Māia is a collaborative effort co-led by individuals from the Faculty of Primary Industries, Trades and Infrastructure and Te Haeata Māori Success. Also involved are the Careers and Employability, Learning Advisors, Māori Pacific Trades Training, Marketing, and Research teams. Without the breadth of kaimahi (staff) involvement, Wāhine Māia would have been difficult to launch and sustain. At the end of 2023, the co-leads presented at the MPATLAANZ Hui-Fono, sharing the cumulative feedback from ākonga Māori after each wānanga. We presented insights shared by ākonga Māori participants with the aim to highlight how Wāhine Māia supported them to feel confident and successful in their chosen trade. In addition, we emphasised the importance of collaboration and encouraged the audience of learning advisors to consider how they might add value to existing kaupapa and/or create a similar initiative with others at their respective institutes. This paper responds to requests for a more detailed outline of the project and the approved research evaluation which supported data collection and analysis.

THE EMOTIONS ANALYSIS OF THE MAIN CHARACTER “SAMIRA” IN MOVIE A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE

The purpose of this study is to examine and understand the feelings experienced by Samira, the main character from Michael Sarnoski’s movie “A Quiet Place Day One”. The purpose of this study is to find out and investigate Samira's emotional responses to the various circumstances she experiences, by identifying a wide range of emotions. The movie “A Quiet Place Day One” has 12 data found. Data was collected using the book 'Emotions revealed' from Ekman's theory. The complex structure of Samira's emotions and how they affect the film will be emphasized in the conclusion of the research. The two most common survival techniques used by Samira, the protagonist in the movie, are following her instincts and staying strong in the face of adversity. This study may shed light on how the character handles challenging circumstances.

Case Report: Case report : Mindfulness training led to catharsis and mindfulness-to-meaning in a patient with social anxiety disorder comorbid with persistent depressive disorder (Dysthymia)

Background The use of mindfulness in the treatment of anxiety and depression is becoming more and more widespread, but there are few reports that it has fundamentally changed patients’ sense of life. Case Presentation This report showed 9 year’s progress of treatment for Social Anxiety Disorder and Persistent Depressive Disorder in a 41-year-old female patient experiencing a long-term painful married life with a reckless husband and controlling mother-in-law. During the past 25 months, she received 180 sessions of mindfulness training, resulting in complete remission of the anxiety and depression symptoms. After the 30th session she experienced an episode of the catharsis during the mindfulness training and experienced what can be called Mindfulness-To-Meaning, which is characterized by durable eudaimonic well-being in the face of adversity. Conclusions The psychological mechanisms that supported arriving at Mindfulness-To-Meaning are delineated as: Heightened (1) awareness which promoted (2) verbalization of the primary theme of suppression, in which the stress was (3) appraised metacognitively. Then (4) decentering permitted integrating this painful theme into a new adaptive self and world view, which resulted in (5) emotional catharsis, or release. Furthermore (6) positive appraisal of this experience enhanced awareness and led to the experience of (7) Mindfulness-To-Meaning.

Resilience Amidst Isolation and Connection: Exploring Psychological Well-Being of Covid-19 Survivors

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on individuals’ mental health, and understanding the psychological well-being of survivors is crucial for developing effective support and interventions. This descriptive phenomenological study aimed to explore and describe the psychological well-being of COVID-19 survivors during and after the recovery. The study was conducted in Ozamiz City, Province of Misamis Occidental and Municipality of Ramon, Province of Isabela. The participants of the study were three COVID-19 survivors who have recovered from the illness selected through purposive sampling. In-depth interviews were conducted and the seven-step method of data analysis of Colaizzi was employed to identify key themes related to psychological well-being. The findings reveal five central themes: 1) Anxiety due to Coronavirus, 2) Social Isolation, 3) Making Sense of the Experience, 4) Positive Relationships, and 5) Strong Spiritual Foundation. While these individuals faced significant anxiety and social isolation upon learning of their positive status—stemming from fears of being a carrier, concerns about imminent death, and worries for the welfare of their loved ones—they also discovered pathways to resilience and connection that enhanced their mental health. Social isolation was exacerbated by feelings of loneliness in isolation facilities and discrimination from neighbors. However, the pandemic also fostered positive effects on the survivors’ psychological well-being. They navigated their experiences by adopting healthy lifestyles, recognizing their strength in the face of adversity, and cultivating hope and gratitude. Additionally, they established positive relationships with loved ones and built a strong spiritual foundation by maintaining their faith and trusting God during and after their recovery. These elements illustrate how, despite the challenges, survivors found ways to enhance their psychological well-being.

STUDY OF HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL ASPECTS OF KORYO-SARAMS IN UZBEKISTAN AND KAZAKHSTAN

The Koryo-Saram, or ethnic Koreans of Central Asia, represent a unique and historically significant diaspora. Their migration began in the late 19th century as Koreans left the Korean Peninsula due to political unrest, poverty, and Japanese colonial rule. Over time, they settled in regions that are now Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and other parts of the former Soviet Union. Their story reflects the broader dynamics of migration, cultural adaptation, and identity preservation. Throughout their history, the Koryo-Saram have faced significant challenges, including forced deportations under Stalin’s regime in 1937. Despite linguistic erosion and pressures to assimilate into local cultures, they have managed to preserve elements of their Korean heritage, such as language, cuisine, and traditional festivals. At the same time, they have made substantial contributions to Central Asian societies, enriching these regions with their diverse cultural practices and expertise across various fields. The Koryo-Saram diaspora exemplifies resilience and adaptation, highlighting the complexities of maintaining cultural identity in the face of adversity. Their experience offers valuable insights into migration, identity negotiation, and the dynamics of integration under authoritarian regimes. As both preservers of Korean traditions and contributors to Central Asian cultures, the Koryo-Saram demonstrate the intricate balance between cultural preservation and assimilation, making their story an important subject within the broader study of diasporic communities. ‎
