Nyepi Lokal Dalam Pengejawantahan Pelestarian Alam di Desa Lokasari Kecamatan Sidemen Kabupaten Karangasem

Nyepi Day is celebrated by Hindus in Indonesia. In the Province of Bali, where the majority of the population is Hindu, not only in Sasih Kesanga (the ninth month of the Balinese calendar) implement Nyepi, but in several districts in the Province of Bali, the villagers carry out Local Nyepi which is coupled with various ritual/ceremonial activities. Lokasari Village is one of the villages in Sidemen District, Karangasem Regency, Bali Province. The objectives to be conveyed in this paper are (1). To find out the background of the emergence of the Local Nyepi tradition which was held in Lokasari Village. (2). To find out what is the basis of the implementation of Local Nyepi which is held in Lokasari Village. (3). To find out the similarities and differences between the implementation of Local Nyepi and Nyepi carried out by Hindus in Indonesia in general. (4). To find out the community's perception of Local Nyepi which was held in Lokasari Village. The methods used in this paper are: observation, interviews, and literature study. So that the results of the Ngusabha Ceremony which are written in Lontar Dharma Pamacul and Lontar Widhi Sastra and Local Nyepi are obtained because of the tradition of the Lokasari Village community that has been passed down from generation to generation (dresta desa), the similarity lies in the implementation of Catur Brata Penyepian and is based on Tilem, the difference is in the timing of the ceremony, the series of activities for the Nyepi ceremony, the Nyepi executive committee, and its objectives. The purpose of implementing Ngusabha and Local Nyepi in Lokasari Village is seen as a purification ceremony for Bhuana Agung and Bhuana Alit as well as an expression of community gratitude for the harvest that has been obtained by the community.

Mappanre temme: Meaning Construction of Khatam Al-Qur’an Tradition in Buginese Community of South Sulawesi

This research is motivated by the presence of the community tradition of Bulutellue, Sinjai, South Sulawesi which is inherited from generation to generation. This tradition is known as mappanre temme, which is a crowded event related to expressions of gratitude and joy by families because their children have successfully finished reading the Koran. The purpose of this study is to explain the position of the Koran in the socio-cultural space, the implementation and function of mappanre temme for the people of Bulutellue, Sinjai, South Sulawesi. The research method used is qualitative research using a religious anthropological approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews and documentation. The data that has been collected is then analyzed so that it has the ability to read the verses contained in the Koran. The results of the study indicate that in the Bulutellue Village community, the Koran is normatively interpreted as the word of God that gives instructions for the path of salvation in this world and in the hereafter. However, in terms of cultural reality, the Koran is interpreted as a special object that is sacred and contains supernatural powers so that it can be functioned as a repellent against evil, healing disease, and fertilizing plants. This function is a trigger to learn the Koran, and if you are successful in completing the Koran and have the skills to read it, the mappanre temme tradition is carried out as an expression of gratitude while maintaining social harmony and friendship between community members, village government officials, and religious officials, as well as maintain and strengthen the relationship between students and teachers of the Koran.

Using Social Media to Assess Expressions of Gratitude to God: Issues for Consideration

With the proliferation of technology-based communication, public expressions of gratitude to God on social media have become more pervasive. At the same time, data science approaches are increasingly being applied to social media language data to assess positive human attributes. We elucidate critical considerations in assessing public expressions of gratitude to God, including language variability and comparability, degree of authenticity, machine learning language analysis, and aggregation approaches that could affect assessment accuracy.

That is the why Eucharist is the source and pinnacle of the life of the Church. Because in the celebration of the Eucharist there is a mutually reinforcing relationship between the faithfull. In the celebration of the Eucharist people are required to be able to interpret the celebration of the Eucharist as a means to develop their faith towards maturity. However there is a fact that no a few people are less able to interpret the Eucharist as a saving sacrifice of the so that people continue to be passive because of the lack of enthusiansm and encouragement from those closest to them. The aims of the research are (1) to describe the menaing of the Eucharist (2) to describe the development of faith (3) to describe the impact of the celebration of the Eucharist on the development of the faith of the people in the St. Gregory.

WhatsApp as a facilitator of expressions of gratitude for palliative care professionals

IntroductionFamily members significantly value the professional and humane support that medical teams provide in the process of caring for patients with advanced diseases. Communication is currently changing, making it of interest to explore technology’s possible influence on communication and on the care relationship. It remains unknown whether this can vary based on increased use of technology in patient care. Using communication technologies can facilitate recognition of professional support through the expression of gratitude aimed at healthcare professionals. The objective here is to describe expressions of gratitude sent via WhatsApp messages by patients who receive treatment from a palliative care team and their relatives. MethodA generic qualitative methodology was used. The palliative care service studied used WhatsApp in the patient/family-professional relationship. A content analysis of 130 WhatsApp messages sent to the professionals and containing expressions of gratitude was carried out. Two researchers inductively performed the analysis. Analysis included aspects for which senders were most grateful and others, such as who the messages came from, whether they were reactive or spontaneous and to whom they were directed. ResultsAlmost all of the patients treated transmitted their gratitude via WhatsApp. It was also observed that family members were most grateful for features of the care received (i.e., affection, availability), the professional's support (i.e., accompaniment, comfort) and the professional’s qualities (i.e., professionalism, kindness). They also appreciated symptom control and attempts to resignify loss; these aspects received the most expressions of gratitude in the messages. In turn, all the messages contain expressions of support for palliative care professionals, evidencing a patient/family-professional relationship. ConclusionThe use of communication technologies like WhatsApp can contribute to the perception of professionals’ availability and closeness and become a facilitator of expressions of gratitude that specify the aspects that family members most appreciate from the palliative care team, such as skills related to humane care and availability.

Gratitude In the Workplace: Moving Toward New Frontiers

A growing body of organizational research has begun to explore the role played by gratitude in employees’ attitudes, perceptions, relationships, and behaviors. However, the literature remains limited in important ways. For instance, the literature has largely focused on gratitude within dyads, and has assumed that all gratitude expressions are equal regardless of the source or motivation behind these expressions. Our symposium aims to contribute to the organizational literature by addressing these limitations. The collection of papers we have assembled discuss how gratitude manifests in organizations and how third-party coworkers perceive the authenticity and effectiveness of gratitude expression. These papers adopt a multi-method approach to studying gratitude in a range of diverse organizational contexts. Gratitude Disparity, Team Psychological Safety Climate, Performance & Customer Satisfaction

Research on expressions of gratitude has shown that they have many positive effects for both the expresser and the receiver. However, most of the literature has focused on individuals and dyads while overlooking the broader team-level contexts in which many workplace gratitude expressions occur. We examine this team context and argue that high levels of received gratitude expression disparity—wherein a small number of people receive most gratitude expressions within the team—is associated with low psychological safety climate, ultimately hurting team performance and customer satisfaction. We further propose that these effects are strongest when friendship disparity in the team is also high. We tested our model in a sample of teams from a large microfinance organization, employing a cross-lagged, multisource design. Our results supported our hypotheses, emphasizing the nuanced impact of received gratitude expressions within teams and highlighting the importance of patterns of affective expression on team outcomes. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.

A “Thank You” From Leader Energizes Employees to Voice: Power Distance Orientation as a Moderator

Previous research on relational energy has examined various ways that leader can increase employees’ relational energy. However, as a ubiquitous leader-follower interaction, whether leader emotion expression facilitates relational energy is still unknown. Based on recent theories and research about relational energy and workplace gratitude, we develop a conceptual model to explain whether and when leader emotion expression generates relational energy for employees. We hypothesize that leader downward gratitude expression enhances employees’ relational energy at work, which further promotes employees to speak up. Besides, we also propose that the effect of gratitude on relational energy and its subsequent extra-role behavior (i.e., employee voice) are contingent on employees’ power distance orientation. We found general support for our hypothesized model in a two-wave and multi-source field study and a pre-registered scenario experiment. We also discuss the theoretical and practical implications of our research.

Poetry as an Expression of Gratitude towards a Physician: Robert Bloomfield’s “Song” for Doctor Edward Jenner, the Father of Immunology

In human medical and social history, one can encounter the deaths of hundreds, thousands or even millions of people caused by either deadly viruses or other worst diseases prevalent in a whole country or the world. Pandemic diseases are also the cause of many deaths as we experience in today’s world. Today we experience an unprecedented pandemic due to a corona virus called Covid-19, which has caused the deaths of an estimated five million people till now. In the world’s history, we have also observed that people have produced songs, poems, and other literary or artworks to alleviate the challenging situation and help people overcome the extreme stress caused by epidemics or pandemics. When we look at literary history, we witness the existence of literary works produced to appreciate science and the scientists who invented new things and came up with novel ideas. The English poet Robert Bloomfield’s “Song, Sung by Mr. Bloomfield” is one of them. This poem, written in 1803 for the anniversary of Doctor Edward Jenner’s birthday, attracts the attention of today’s readers due to its appreciation of the physician who invented vaccination against smallpox. In this regard, the poem may be considered the expression of gratitude. The purpose of this study is to highlight the elements of praise in the poem to indicate how Bloomfield expressed not only his gratitude to Jenner but also the gratitude that all the other people should feel towards him, and thus constituted an appreciative response to the scientist’s noble act of inventing vaccination against smallpox, a fatal disease.

Integrating Natural Language Processing and Interpretive Thematic Analyses to Gain Human-Centered Design Insights on HIV Mobile Health: Proof-of-Concept Analysis.

BackgroundHIV mobile health (mHealth) interventions often incorporate interactive peer-to-peer features. The user-generated content (UGC) created by these features can offer valuable design insights by revealing what topics and life events are most salient for participants, which can serve as targets for subsequent interventions. However, unstructured, textual UGC can be difficult to analyze. Interpretive thematic analyses can preserve rich narratives and latent themes but are labor-intensive and therefore scale poorly. Natural language processing (NLP) methods scale more readily but often produce only coarse descriptive results. Recent calls to advance the field have emphasized the untapped potential of combined NLP and qualitative analyses toward advancing user attunement in next-generation mHealth.ObjectiveIn this proof-of-concept analysis, we gain human-centered design insights by applying hybrid consecutive NLP-qualitative methods to UGC from an HIV mHealth forum.MethodsUGC was extracted from Thrive With Me, a web app intervention for men living with HIV that includes an unstructured peer-to-peer support forum. In Python, topics were modeled by latent Dirichlet allocation. Rule-based sentiment analysis scored interactions by emotional valence. Using a novel ranking standard, the experientially richest and most emotionally polarized segments of UGC were condensed and then analyzed thematically in Dedoose. Design insights were then distilled from these themes.ResultsThe refined topic model detected K=3 topics: A: disease coping; B: social adversities; C: salutations and check-ins. Strong intratopic themes included HIV medication adherence, survivorship, and relationship challenges. Negative UGC often involved strong negative reactions to external media events. Positive UGC often focused on gratitude for survival, well-being, and fellow users’ support.ConclusionsWith routinization, hybrid NLP-qualitative methods may be viable to rapidly characterize UGC in mHealth environments. Design principles point toward opportunities to align mHealth intervention features with the organically occurring uses captured in these analyses, for example, by foregrounding inspiring personal narratives and expressions of gratitude, or de-emphasizing anger-inducing media.

Expressions of Gratitude Applied to Business: A Lesson for Managing Online Reviews

Online reviews are critical for businesses to thrive, but their management is not often effective. Using data from social media platforms, with more than 600 observations of public online interactions between business owners and customers, we showed that strategic management of online reviews predicts a positive increment of online reputation. Publicly expressing gratitude (Study 1) and, specifically, directing these expressions towards beneficial online reviews (Study 2) are effective strategies supporting a general increase of the business online score. These findings identify public expressions of gratitude as a responsive, attentive gesture that signals care and consideration towards customers. Such gesture promotes the online reputation through satisfaction between business community relationships.

Implementation intentions to express gratitude increase daily time co-present with an intimate partner, and moderate effects of variation in CD38

Close social connections drive mental and physical health and promote longevity. Positive, other-focused behavior like expressing gratitude may be a key mechanism for increasing close bonds. Existing evidence consistent with this claim is predominantly correlational, likely driven by challenges in causally influencing and sustaining behavior change in the context of ongoing relationships. This 5-week field experiment with daily data from couples provides the first evidence for a brief, low-cost behavioral technique to increase everyday expressed gratitude to a romantic partner. Random assignment to the gratitude expression treatment (GET) increased the amount of time couples spent co-present in everyday life, from the weeks before GET to the weeks after, relative to the control condition. This effect was mediated by the change in expressed gratitude. Voluntary co-presence is an important behavioral indicator of close bonds in non-human animals. Further analyses with a functional genotype related to the oxytocin system (rs6449182) suggest a neurochemical pathway involved in the effects of expressing gratitude. Together, this evidence bridges animal and human research on bonding behavior and sets up future experiments on biopsychosocial mechanisms linking close bonds to health.

Exploring the potential of graphic novels for L2 pragmatic teaching and learning – focus on young learners

ABSTRACT To date very little research is available that focuses on L2 pragmatics and young learners [cf. Schauer, G.A. 2022a. Teaching pragmatics to young learners: a review study. Applied Pragmatics. DOI:10.1075/ap.00006.sch]. Recent studies have shown that textbooks for young learners of English as a foreign language (EFL) vary considerably regarding their pragmatic content and frequently do not provide varied and consistent input of key speech acts and formulaic expressions. Graphic novels could be a rich source of pragmatic input for L2 learners as they tend to contain a considerable amount of direct speech that could be used in a variety of different ways in the L2 classroom. In this paper, I will examine four graphic novels (2 suitable for beginner level and 2 suitable for intermediate level EFL learners) concerning their potential to provide young L2 learners with pragmatic input of their respective level. The study provides an overview of the number of speech act occurrences of eight speech acts (greetings, leave-takings, requests, responses to requests, expressions of gratitude, responses to expressions of gratitude, apologies, responses to apologies), as well as a more detailed analysis of individual speech act expressions and formulaic routines of six of the eight speech acts.

Strategies in Expressing Gratitude Performed by English Department Students in 5 th th and 7 Semester of Different Gender: A Socio-Pragmatics Approach

In this study, the researcher focuses on the analysis of the strategies in expressing gratitude performed by English Department students in 5<sup>th</sup> and 7<sup>th</sup> semester of different gender. The objectives of this study are (1) identifying the contexts, types, and functions that influence gratitude expression uttered by the 5<sup>th</sup> and 7<sup>th</sup> semester of English Department students based on gender differences, (2) analyzing and discovering the language pattern in gratitude expression used by the 5<sup>th</sup> and 7<sup>th</sup> semesters of English Department students based on gender differences. The researcher used a descriptive-qualitative method and employed Spradley’s analysis method in collecting and analyzing the data which includes domain, taxonomic, componential and cultural context analysis. The source of data is in the form of participants; the students of 5<sup>th</sup> and 7<sup>th</sup> semester in English Department whereas the data were taken from responses in the form of utterances in DCT answered by the participants. Throughout the taxonomic analysis, the data were classified into Cheng’s taxonomy (2005) of gratitude strategies.

VIRTUAL RAPPORT WITH EXPRESSIONS OF GRATITUDE IN RESPONDING ONLINE REVIEWS

The development of web-based technologies has increased the popularity of an online type of word-of-mouth, known as electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM). With the proliferation of online platforms, online reviews as eWOM have significantly influenced consumers’ purchase decisions in various industries. Given that eWOM can be immensely influential in businesses, engaging in digital platforms is crucial in rapport building with customers. Responding to online reviews can have a positive impact on both customer relationships and online reputation management. Expressing gratitude can create rapport and build trust with customers as a sense of appreciation can be kindled. Building on Spencer-Oatey’s Rapport Management Model, this study examines expressing gratitude strategies in the hotel responses to positive online reviews on TripAdvisor. Using purposeful sampling, particularly intensity sampling, the hotel responses were collected from Malaysian five-, four- and three-star hotels, which are situated in popular tourist destinations. The study findings show that four-star hotels accounted for the highest frequency of expressing gratitude strategies, followed by five- and three-star hotels. The five- and four-star hotels tend to vary their expressing gratitude strategies. It was also found that there was a significant relationship between the hotel star rating categories, the strategies of gratitude expression and lexical choice in those strategies. This study will establish an understanding of digital rapport management strategies from a linguistic perspective.

The article analyzes discussions about whether gratitude is an experience or a personal trait and part of the worldview. It is shown that the researchers focused on two components of gratitude: cognitive one (rational assessment of the actions usefulness of other or certain events) and affective one (experiencing a set of positive emotions: joy, admiration). Recently, the idea that gratitude is a personality trait has become widespread. In our opinion, gratitude is a basic life guideline, which is manifested in the cognitive aspect – assessing what a person has, awareness of the time perspective of life, understanding the manifestations of positivity (implicit theory of the positive world), in the affective aspect – experiencing specific emotions, reverence, admiration, affection) during the meeting with certain objects, which, in fact, chooses the person himself, in the behavioral aspect – control of their own attention to focus on the positive in the current moment, as well as choosing more optimal response strategies. Researches of the gratitude impact on the experience of well-being and its individual aspects have shown that there are complex interrelationships between gratitude and the parameters of personal well-being. On the one hand, gratitude contributes to the formation of positive relationships, because the person encourages others to justify his hopes. On the other hand, gratitude reduces hedonistic adaptation and encourages the individual not to take the positive aspects of his life for granted, and thus becomes a personal resource when experiencing stress. There are formalized social practices of gratitude – certain rituals of expression of gratitude on clearly defined “holidays”. The actual implementation of the act of gratitude has a relatively low effect. The most effective personal practices of gratitude are considered to be cognitive – the actualization of the experience of gratitude by increasing attention to small details and awareness of their importance while reducing the focus on fair exchange with the world. In particular, making various forms of lists of things and phenomena for which a person is grateful, solving hypothetical situations, writing letters of gratefulness, and so on. When applying such practices, their diversity is important to maintain the motivation of an individual to use them. A few words about dignity: An introspective study of a person with disability

In the article, I present issues of presence, existential absence, and the sense of dignity of a person with a disability. I present these issues for the first time and attempt to show disability “from within”, a perspective to which I am no stranger as I myself am disabled. The issues of presence, absence and human dignity have always fascinated me. Hence, in this text, they are “filtered” through my dramatic and sometimes even traumatic personal experiences. In conveying these experiences, I never forget what human existence should be – the fact that there should be dignity, presence and being. Is my human experience marked by this? At some point in the text I make a “moral accusation” in connection with this issue. Additionally, I have never forgotten (and will never forget) the person who helped me to “reborn” for myself, people and the world. “The significant person and her achievement in relation to the author” is my modest expression of gratitude to someone because of whom I LIVE. However, the central points of reference in this text are questions of human dignity and presence. They form its axis and are its guiding categories of analysis. I conclude by stating that these are important, even essential issues in order to understand the phenomenon of what it is to be human. And to be unique in that humanity. The main research question which I pose is the following: Does society see that people with disabilities have dignity? Furthermore, the thesis I propose and which I believe arises from this question is: society has little recognition of the dignity of people with disabilities. More specific research questions will be quoted below in the text which, in terms of methodology, has been written using an autoethnographic approach (Wolcott 2004, Kacperczyk 2014, Urbańska 2012). The choice of this highly qualitative methodology was guided by the assumption that autoethnography allows a subjective presentation of specific fragments of those events inscribed in the category of human dignity described here. This will be an analytical autoethnography, after Canagarajah (2012), because through writing I analyze the emotional, mental and situational states that I have had to face in the past, while some of the experiences that generated these states resonate with me to the present. Last but not least, it is my hope that my openly described states of mind will contribute to some betterment of this particular area of human existence in its extremely important, social and cultural dimensions.

Islamic education is a process of changing individual behavior for the better, so the value of Islamic education is the things or traits inherent in Islamic education that are used as a basis or life guide to become a better person. Islam recognizes the existence of community customs because customs are part of that society. In addition, customs or traditions often contain values whose source is the religion adopted or Islamic education. So the purpose of this study is to explore the values of Islamic education contained in the fanten tradition carried out by the Patani community of Central Halmahera every month of Rabiul Awal as an expression of gratitude for the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. So it can be understood that in the fanten tradition there is a process for strengthening faith, worship and morals which are the values of Islamic education

Extending a helping hand: How receiving gratitude makes a difference in employee performance during a crisis

Although organizational crises, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic, are shocks for employees, their expression of gratitude can be viewed as a silver lining. Drawing on social exchange theory and the social functions of emotion perspective, we develop a model that elucidates why and when benefactors who receive gratitude expression can perform better in the COVID-19 crisis. We propose that receiving gratitude expression as a potential consequence of providing crisis-related help to coworkers enhances one’s crisis self-efficacy and perceived social impact, which, in turn, positively relates to adaptation to a crisis, task performance, and helping behaviors toward leaders. The perceived novelty of the COVID-19 crisis strengthens the positive effect of receiving gratitude expression on crisis self-efficacy, and the perceived criticality of the crisis strengthens the positive effect of receiving gratitude expression on perceived social impact. A scenario-based experiment and five-wave field survey with Eastern and Western employees generally support our hypotheses.
