Impact of AI on Architecture: An Exploratory Thematic Analysis

The huge impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on various spheres is commonly attested in the literature. This study is informed by the dire need for more research on the increased adoption of AI and awareness of it for architectural activities. It is aimed at exploring the impact of AI on architecture, with a view to drawing evidence from extant studies to determine the extent of its adoption and positive impact on architecture. Literature review process, interpretive devices, and content and thematic analyses are employed to show scholarly evidence for its arguments on the thematic concern. Being an exploratory research, exploratory method and qualitative approach are employed. The study relies on observation and secondary data, focusing on their thematic preoccupations in relation to its arguments. The data are sourced online from only reputable repositories and databases. The analysis demonstrates that AI has been impacting positively on the broad field of architecture, and has the capacity to optimize and transform the architecture industry with huge innovations, results, efficiency, performance, and productivity. The study concludes that AI and other cutting-edge technologies, as technological innovations, are transforming the broad field of architecture. It charges the government and stakeholders in the field to ensure significant adoption of AI and increase awareness about AI, its impact, and ethical concerns. Ethical governance and pragmatic measures can help address the ethical concerns associated with AI.

Implementing patient navigation for cancer prevention among individuals with mentally ill-health

Abstract Issue In Europe, over 80 million people experience mental ill-health and there are 4 million new cancer diagnoses each year. Individuals experiencing mental ill-health exhibit higher rates of cancer morbidity and mortality, with this excess attributed to risky health behaviors and obstacles encountered when accessing often fragmented healthcare systems. Description of the problem The aim of Co-CAPTAIN is the pilot implementation and evaluation of the Patient Navigation Model (PNM) for the improvement of primary cancer prevention in individuals with mental ill-health, adapted through participatory co-design in the European context. The project will adopt a cohort-based study design, commencing data collection at baseline and succeeded by three follow-ups (6 weeks, 9 months, 18 months). It will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies to assess diverse outcomes of PNM, facilitating both exploratory and confirmatory research. Qualitative data will be obtained through semi-structured interviews, while quantitative data will be collected using validated questionnaires and items developed ad hoc. The project will involve four pilot sites in Europe (Austria, Greece, Poland and Spain), where the PNM will be adapted to the specificities of national healthcare and support systems. The implementation phase is expected to begin in June 2024. Results During implementation, gathering both quantitative and qualitative data will offer valuable insights into feasibility and effectiveness, establishing a baseline for reshaping health and social care policies for individuals with mental ill-health across Europe. Lessons Co-CAPTAIN project aims to reduce health disparities for individuals with mental ill-health by improving overall health and reducing cancer burdens, leading to cost reductions in European health and social care systems. Public Perception of the Higher Education System under the Regime of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan

A modern, free, and dynamic higher education system is the basic and critical element of successful nation, and it can contribute to the progress and development of a country. Under both regimes of the Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan, the higher education system has undergone significant changes to align with the government’s interpretation of Islamic principles. This study is important to understand how Afghan society views the changes and policies implemented in the education sector under the current regime. The research study aims to evaluate public sentiment regarding access, quality, and inclusivity of higher education, particularly in relation to gender, curriculum changes, and ideological shifts. This paper focuses on the Taliban’s higher education system and investigates public responses to educational policies. This paper will offer recommendations to all stakeholders involved in the Afghan higher education system, aimed at improving its management and development during this crucial period. This work employs non-doctrinal and library research methodology. Non-doctrinal research examines how laws are applied and experienced in practice by collecting data through surveys, interviews, field studies, and observations. In this research study, data was collected through a questionnaire and then analyzed through SPSS. Moreover, in the library research methodology, most of the reputable and trustworthy academic sources such as textbooks, scholarly published and unpublished journal articles, law reports, and online websites related to the research area were analyzed through descriptive, explanatory, and analytical research approaches. The Afghan higher education system, established in the 1930s, has faced continuous political pressures, especially during periods of conflict like the Soviet invasion and civil war from the 1980s to 1990s. Women face major limitations in higher education, including restrictions on fields of study and exclusion from faculty positions, raising concerns about gender equality and access to education.

Silent cerebral microvascular disease and longitudinal risk of cognitive decline in atrial fibrillation

Abstract Background A relationship between silent stroke and cognitive disorder has recently been suggested in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). This research is an exploratory research study to investigate the occurrence of asymptomatic cerebrovascular disorders with NVAF. Methods The SKAF (Silent cerebral microvascular disease and longitudinal risK of cognitive decline in Atrial Fibrillation) study is a prospective, investigator-initiated, multicenter, observational study of Japanese patients with NVAF aged 60 years or older. We had planned to enroll two hundred NVAF patients with no history of symptomatic stroke or dementia, and an anticoagulant therapy with edoxaban is being performed or an anticoagulant therapy is not being performed, and one hundred patients with sinus rhythm, for comparison. We collected patient characteristics, clinical course, the data of head MRI test and cognitive function test (Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA)) at the baseline and the 24 months follow-up. The primary endpoint was the composite of silent ischemic stroke and micro-bleeding over a 24-month follow-up period. The secondary endpoint was cognitive decline over a 24-month follow-up period. Results The study was started in October 2016, with a planned 2-year recruitment period. As of January 31, 2018, a total of 326 patients were enrolled. Of those, 99 patients with sinus rhythm (SR group) and 214 patients with NVAF (NVAF group) were analyzed (male, 193 (62%) patients; age, 72.2±6.5 years). 156 of 195 (80%) patients with NVAF received the anticoagulant therapy with edoxaban. There was no significant difference of the primary composite for the endpoints between two groups (17.4% versus 17.4%; p=1.00). The incidences of silent ischemic stroke and micro-bleeding in SR and NVAF groups over a 24-month follow-up period were 9.3% and 10.8% (p= 0.833), and 8.1% and 9.2% (p=1.00), respectively. The NVAF group exhibited a significantly larger decline in cognition changes in MoCA score than SR group (-0.830 versus 0,000; p=0.0131). Notably, NVAF was found to be associated with cognitive decline. Conclusion The SKAF registry provided an equivalent risk of silent cerebral microvascular disease in patients with SR and NVAF. Clinically, NVAF had an impact on cognitive decline.

Transitioning associations to cooperatives is crucial for promoting sustainable economic development, empowering communities, and enhancing collective well-being. This research assessed the readiness of Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF) communities in the Global South to form a cooperative. This research employed an exploratory research approach in six coastal Barangays of Batad, situated in the 5th District of Iloilo Province. The findings indicated that respondents have a slight level of awareness with regard to the advantages and economic advantages associated with becoming part of a cooperative. On the other hand, there was a clear difference in members’ perceptions of the benefits and financial returns that comes with belonging to a cooperative. According to the study, females are more likely to support the association’s move towards a cooperative structure, especially younger individuals. The main issue highlighted was the lack of skilled officers and inadequate resources and training for association members. A lecture on Cooperative Awareness and capability trainings on financial management, bookkeeping, and credit management should be organized in order to increase associations readiness to be a cooperative.

Antecedents of Travel Advisories on Performance of the Hotel Industry in Kenya: A Case of Five-Star Hotels in Nairobi County

Purpose: The general objective of this study was to examine the antecedents of travel advisories on the performance of the hotel industry in Kenya by focusing on five-star hotels in Nairobi County. The specific objectives that guided the study were to examine the effect of political instability advisory, pandemic advisory and terrorism advisory on the performance of five-star hotels in Nairobi County. Methodology: The explanatory research design was employed in this study. The population of this study were the managers of five-star hotels in Nairobi County and were 426 in total. A stratified sample technique was employed in the study, while Simple Random Sampling (SRS) was used to select samples from each study stratum. The Yamane formula was applied is selecting 206 respondents who made the sample size of the study. The study used primary data that was gathered using self-administered and structured questionnaires. These questionnaires were pilot tested for reliability, and were distributed electronically for data collection. Descriptive and inferential analyses were applied during analysis and both tables and figures were used to display the findings. Findings: The results of the study showed that guest safety was a significant element for guests when choosing a destination to visit. Correlation analysis revealed that there existed a significant and negative statistical association between political instability advisory and hotel performance. The regression coefficients showed that a unit increase in political instability advisory provided resulted in a 37.7% decrease in performance of five-star hotels in Nairobi County. The outcome of the study indicated that hotels observed precipitous declines in occupancy rates during the COVID-19 pandemic. Correlation analysis showed that there existed a significant and negative statistical association between pandemic advisory and hotel performance. Regression coefficients indicated that a unit increase in pandemic advisory provided resulted in a 57.7% decrease in performance of five-star hotels in Nairobi County. The findings of the study revealed that a lack the resources had turned the attention of terrorists to target luxury hotels. Correlation analysis demonstrated that there existed a significant and negative statistical association between terrorism advisory and hotel performance. The study concludes that political incidents had a serious effect on the hotels’ performance compared to natural disasters since guest safety was a significant element when choosing a destination to visit. Unique Contribution to Theory, Policy and Practice: The study recommends the managers of five-star hotels in Nairobi County use available media both digital and traditional to provide factual information to their potential guests during times of political unrest. They need to create flexible corporate policies that would allow them to face new circumstances.

The Examination of the Counseling Supervision Effect on Personal and Professional Development of First-Time Supervisees

The study investigated how clinical supervision affects the personal and professional development of first-time supervisees. The explanatory sequential mixed methods research design was employed in the study. Quantitative data was collected using a single group pretest-posttest experimental design to evaluate the impact of supervision on the personal and professional development of counselors in training. Individual interviews were conducted with 51 volunteer participants who were counselors in training at a state university in western Türkiye. Paired-sample t-tests were used to analyze the quantitative data, while content analysis was employed for the qualitative data. The findings showed that supervision significantly enhanced the counselors in training's effective counselor characteristics and self-awareness management strategies. However, there were no significant differences in hindering self-awareness and professional disposition. The qualitative analysis revealed that counselors in training who participated in supervision gained a deeper understanding of counseling procedures and techniques, increased trust in the profession, and improved self-efficacy. Counselors in training also highlighted the positive impact of their supervisor and group supervision format on their development. The results of the study suggest the significance of supervision in counselor education. It is recommended that the variables included in the current research and the effect of supervision should be examined in more studies.

A local-level agricultural transformation in the making? The case of the cassava industry in the Ashanti and Volta regions of Ghana

ABSTRACT In sub-Saharan Africa, Ghana is recognized as one of the countries undergoing rapid economic transformation. Drawing on an agricultural transformation framework, this study sheds light on the current farm and nonfarm developments in the cassava subsector in five communities across four districts in Ghana. Using a qualitative exploratory research design based on field-work surveys, the study identifies several factors that together showcase manifestations of a transformation process in the studied areas. These include a combination of growing farm sizes, use of new technologies, higher productivity, expanding market opportunities, increased profitability, improved lives and livelihoods, and changing labour structures. These micro-level findings allow the study to offer a richer understanding of dynamics of change underway that could complement macro-oriented analyses of agricultural transformation in Africa.

Effect of Tax Literacy on Consumption Taxes Compliance among Retailers in Starehe Sub County Nairobi, Kenya

Purpose: The ultimate purpose of Kenyan government is to raise sufficient revenue to finance its expenditure. There have been continuous reforms in the administration of consumption taxes. Government is unable to adequately raise revenue through tax collection and hence the need for this study. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of tax literacy on consumption taxes compliance among retailers in Starehe sub -county Nairobi, Kenya. The study was guided by Theory of Planned Behaviour. Methodology: Explanatory research design was adopted and the target population of this study was 4639 retailers in Starehe sub -county Nairobi, with a sample size of 368 respondents. Primary data was collected by use of questionnaires. In this study, 276 out of 368 distributed questionnaires were accurately completed and returned, reflecting a 75% response rate. The statistics generated was descriptive and inferential statistics that was analyzed using correlation and linear regression. Results: The study showed that tax literacy (β = 0. 189, p < 0.05) significantly improve consumption tax compliance. Conclusion: The study recommended that the KRA should launch comprehensive tax literacy programs aimed at educating retailers about consumption tax regulations and their benefits.

This research aims to determine the influence of brand image and price on consumer satisfaction at Hari - Hari Dumai City Riau Supermarket through intervening variables in purchasing decisions. This research uses a quantitative method with an explanatory research type. The sample in this study was taken as many as 100 people using accidental sampling technique. Hypothesis testing was carried out using a Structural Equation Model (SEM) approach based on Partial Least Square (PLS) using the SmartPLS version 3 application to test the relationship between variables. The research results show that brand image has an insignificant positive influence on Aqua purchasing decisions at the Hari - Hari Dumai City Riau Supermarket. Price and brand image have significant positive influence on Aqua purchasing decisions at the Hari - Hari Dumai City Riau Supermarket. Price does not have a significant effect on Aqua consumer satisfaction at Hari - Hari Dumai City Riau Supermarket. Purchasing decisions have a significant effect on Aqua consumer satisfaction at Hari - Hari Dumai City Riau Supermarket. Brand image has an insignificant indirect effect on Aqua consumer satisfaction through purchasing decisions at the Hari - Hari Dumai City Riau Supermarket. Price has an indirect effect on Aqua consumer satisfaction through purchasing decisions at the Hari - Hari Dumai City Riau Supermarket.

Effect of Tax Morale on Value Added Tax Compliance Among Medium Taxpayers in North of Nairobi Tax District, Kenya

Purpose: Tax compliance is important as it has a direct impact on revenue for most governments around the world. Despite the reforms that the Kenya Revenue Authority has been undertaking to increase revenue collection, it has of late failed to meet its revenue targets, particularly VAT targets. There has also been existence of fluctuations in VAT collection over the past couple of financial years. The objective of the study is to showcase the effect of tax morale on Value Added Tax compliance among medium taxpayers in north Nairobi tax district, Kenya. The study has been guided by the ability to pay theory. Methodology: The study adopted the explanatory research design and primary data was collected using structured questionnaires with closed-ended questions. The total target population was 2,376 VAT-registered medium taxpayers in north of Nairobi tax district, Kenya and the sample size was 342 respondents. Out of the 342 respondents targeted, 274 questionnaires were correctly filled and returned, indicating 80% response rate. Results: The study also found that tax morale had a positive and significant effect on Value Added Tax compliance β=0.173 p-value =0. 016. Conclusion: The study recommends that the government of Kenya should allocate resources towards improving taxpayer services, including helplines, online portals, and advisory services.

The Effect of Desk Tax Audit Practice on Tax Revenue Collection among Medium and Large Size Enterprises in Kenya

Purpose: Tax is a major issue of discussion for both developed and developing countries. For there to be significant progress in any nation, the government should look for ways of raising income to meet the needs of its citizens. The main objective of the study was to determine the effect of desk tax audit practice on Tax revenue collection among medium and large size enterprises in Nairobi region, Kenya. The study was guided by Lending credibility theory. Methodology: The target population was 562 employees in the Medium Taxpayer Office and Large Taxpayers Office Nairobi region, out of which 234 was sampled, and 167 respondents managed to fill and return the questionnaires implying a 71.4% response rate. Primary data was collected using structured questionnaires that was filled by employees in Medium Taxpayers Office and Large Taxpayers Office in Nairobi region. The study employed an explanatory research design. Data was then analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation &regression model and finally Multiple regression model. Results: The study further found that Desk tax audit had a positive and significant effect on tax revenue collection β =0.329 p-value =0.0000<0.05. Recommendation: Based on the findings, the government should consider strengthening desk tax audit practices to enhance tax revenue collection. Policies could be developed to ensure regular and comprehensive desk audits are conducted to identify and address tax compliance issues promptly.

Effect of Electronic Tax Invoice Management System on Value Added Tax Compliance Among Tented Camps in Narok County, Kenya

Purpose: Value Added Tax (VAT) compliance is a critical aspect of revenue collection for governments worldwide; however, it has encountered various challenges, the most prevalent being verifying input tax claimed by taxpayers when filing VAT returns. The main objective was to examine the effect of electronic Tax Invoice Management System on Value added tax compliance among tented camps in Narok County. The theory that supports the study was Diffusion of Innovations Theory. Methodology: The study employed explanatory research design, with a target population of 150 tented camps in the Masai Mara National Reserve, out of these, 122 respondents successfully completed and returned the questionnaires, resulting in a response rate of 81.3%. The data was collected through a structured questionnaire. Results: The study found that ETIMs positively and significantly affect VAT compliance β =0.236 p-value =0.012<0.05. Conclusion: The study recommended that The KRA should enhance the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (ETIMS) to improve VAT compliance among tented camps in Narok County. Future research should be conducted on the effects of taxpayer behavioural factors on VAT compliance.

Effect of Alternative Dispute Resolution on VAT Compliance Among Tax Agents in Nairobi County, Kenya

Purpose: Tax is a vital source of government revenue in almost all countries in the world as it ensures that the government can offer goods and services to the general public. Therefore, tax compliance is critical in all economies, which recognize the role played by revenue collected from tax in national development. The key aim of the current study was to establish the effect of alternative dispute resolution on value added tax compliance among tax agents in Nairobi County, Kenya. The study was anchored on the theory of conflict of management. Methodology: The study adopted an explanatory research design. The study targeted 321 agents in Nairobi County while the sample size was 178 respondents. In this study, 178 out of 134 distributed questionnaires were completed and returned correctly, achieving a 75% response rate. The study used primary data, which was collected through questionnaires. The data collected was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. A linear regression model was used to establish the strength of the relationship between independent and dependent study variables. Results: Alternative Dispute Resolution also exhibits a positive and significant correlation with VAT Compliance, with a coefficient of β =0.093 p<0.05. Conclusion: The study recommended that the KRA should enhance its alternative dispute resolution mechanisms by providing clear guidelines, increasing the availability of mediation and arbitration services, and ensuring that tax agents are well-informed about these options. Future research should examine the impact of the regulatory framework on VAT compliance.

Effect of Integrated Customs Management Systems (ICMS) on Customs Duty Performance in Nairobi County, Kenya

Purpose: Tax is an important stream of revenue for government’s development projects and therefore all efforts must be made by governments to ensure that it is accurately and efficiently collected to facilitate the government’s operations. This study sought to determine the of integrated customs management system on factors affecting customs duty performance Nairobi County, Kenya. The theories supporting the study is comparative theory of international trade. Methodology: The study employed explanatory research design. The target population of this study was 438 respondents comprising customs heads of departments, customs officers and customs agents at Embakasi Inland Depot, Nairobi. with a sample size of 209, out of which 173 respondents correctly filled the questionnaires and submitted them accordingly. The data collected was analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. A linear regression model was used. Results: The coefficient study showed that a unit change in ICMS increases customs duty performance significantly β =0.205 p-value =0.000<0.05. Conclusion: The study recommends that the KRA and the government of Kenya prioritize the continuous improvement of the Integrated Customs Management System (ICMS). Customs management should ensure full utilization of the ICMS by training customs officials and stakeholders, given its positive impact on duty performance. Future research may be carried out on the effects of tax incentives on Customs duty performance

Real Exchange Rate Depreciation and Domestic Tax Revenue Performance in Kenya

Purpose: Taxation plays a critical role in raising the resources needed for financing government activities in developing countries. On the other hand, the volatility of real exchange rates (RERs) has generated significant concern among academics and policymakers in view of its effects on macroeconomic variables such as tax revenue generation. This study therefore focused on real exchange rate depreciation on domestic tax revenue performance in Kenya. The study was guided Theory of Constraints. Methodology: The study employed an explanatory research design. Secondary data was collected from the CBK, KRA, and the World Bank. In this study time series data ranging from 2003 – 2023 was used to analyze the determinants of domestic tax revenue performance in Kenya. The hypotheses were tested at a significance level of .05 using the multiple regression analysis. A multivariate time series ARDL regression analysis model was used to analyze the data. Results: The study ARDL model concluded that Real exchange rate depreciation led to a notable decrease in domestic tax revenue performance, with β = -0.223945 and p = 0.000 < 0.05. This effect is intensified when considering the lagged impact, where a one-period lagged depreciation results in an even greater reduction in tax revenue performance, β = -1.927412 and p = 0.0004 < 0.05. Conclusion: The study recommended that government of Kenya should stabilize the exchange rate and prevent excessive depreciation by fostering a favorable trade balance and maintaining investor confidence. Additionally, future research could focus on the effects of fiscal Policy Changes on domestic tax revenue performance. Also, future studies could examine Impact of Global Economic Shocks on Domestic Tax Revenue.

The Effect of Training on Employee Productivity at Mercure Jakarta Sabang

The purpose of this study is to determine how influential training consisting of training objectives, training materials, training methods, participant qualifications, and instructor qualifications on employee productivity at Mercure Jakarta Sabang. This study used quantitative research methods, with an Explanatory Research model. The research sample amounted to 46 respondents who were selected using random sampling techniques. The instrument used to collect the data is a questionnaire with Likert Scale. The data analysis technique uses multiple lnear regression analysis. The results of data analysis showed that training had a significant effect of 46.8% on employee productivity at Mercure Jakarta Sabang

The Level of Accessibility of e-Feedback System Technology among Citizens of Temeke Municipal Council in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

The study sought to investigate effectiveness of e-feedback system among citizens of Temeke Municipal Council in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The specific objectives of the study were to evaluate level of accessibility of e-feedback system technology among citizens of Temeke Municipal Council, to assess the level of digital skills and its influence on e-feedback system usage among citizens of Temeke Municipal and to assess the level of motivation and its influence on the usage of e-feedback system among citizens of Temeke Municipal. The study was guided by decomposed theory of planned behaviour while conceptual framework was developed to indicate the relationship between independent variables and dependent variable. The study used explanatory research design while simple random sampling technique was used to select members of sample size who were 133 respondents from the target population of 199 people. Data were collected through questionnaire while data were analyzed using descriptive and multiple regression analysis with the aid of SPSS. The study found that there is low level accessibility of e-feedback system technology among citizens of Temeke Municipal Council since most of the citizens are not aware of the existence of the system while level of digital skills on e-feedback system among citizens of Temeke Municipality is low. The study concluded that to a large extent there is low usage of e-feedback system due to the low-level awareness of the existence of the system. It is recommended that the management of the organisation should conduct widespread public awareness campaigns to inform citizens about the existence and benefits of the e-feedback system at large.

Effect of Taxpayer Sensitization on Excise Duty Compliance Among Manufacturing Firms in Embakasi West Nairobi County, Kenya

Purpose: Although the implementation of the excise tax has the potential to enhance revenue collection, its contribution to the GDP has remained negligible in comparison to other forms of taxation. Consistently, the total amount of the excise tax collected has been below the set targets. The general objective was to determine the effect of taxpayer sensitization on excise duty compliance among manufacturing firms in Embakasi west Nairobi County, Kenya. The study was supported by the Theory of Planned Behaviour. Methodology: The study adopted explanatory research design and target a population was 416 manufacturing firms in Embakasi West Nairobi. A sample size of 203 was drawn from this population and a response of 173which thus 85% response rate. Primary data collection was employed using closed structured questionnaires based on the study's objectives. The data was analyzed using descriptive, inferential statistics and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: The study showed that taxpayer sensitization positively affects excise duty compliance β=0.270 p-value=0.001<0.05. Conclusion: The government should implement nationwide educational campaigns to inform taxpayers about their excise duty obligations
