Excess Volumes of Binary Mixtures Containing Diisopropyl Ether + 1-Butanol or Diisopropyl Ether + Diethyl Ketone and Ethanol + Heptane at High Pressures

Excess molar volumes VE of diisopropyl ether with 1-butanol were measured at pressures of 0.1 MPa, 20 MPa, 40 MPa, and 60 MPa and at temperatures of 278.15 K, 298.15 K, and 323.15 K; mixtures of diisopropyl ether + diethyl ketone, at 278.15 and 298.15 K. VE is negative for all the mixtures studied over the whole concentration range and for all temperatures. Excess molar volumes VE of ethanol with heptane were measured at 298.15 K and 0.1 MPa, 20 MPa, and 60 MPa. VE is positive in all mixtures studied. Results were correlated by polynomial equations of the type VE = x1x2∑iAi(2x1 − 1)i.

Thermodynamics of acrylic esters containing binary liquid mixtures. I. Excess volumes and isentropic compressibilities of alkyl methacrylates +n-hexane, +n-heptane, + carbon tetrachloride, + chlorobenzene, ando-dichlorobenzene at 303.15 K

Excess volumes and isentropic compressibilities of 15 binary liquid mixtures containing methyl methacrylate (MMA). ethyl methacrylate (EMA), and butyl methacrylate (BM) andn-Hexane,n-heptane, carbon tetrachloride chlorobenzene ando-dichlorobenzene are derived from the measured densities and speeds of sound at 303.15 K. The dependence of the excess volumes and the isentropic compressibilities both on the alkyl chain length and on the nature of the solvent shots the dominance of dispersing interactions in the mixtures of aliphatic hydrocarbons and specific interactions im the chlorinated solvent mixtures. The speeds of sound of binary mixtures of MMA were found to be reasonably predicted by free length and collision factor theories. An attempt is also made to estimate the individual contributions of interactional. free volume andP* effects to the overall excess volumes of binary mixtures containing MMA. The results indicate that the three factors are equally responsible for the observed values.

Excess Volumes of Binary Mixtures of 1,4-Dioxane with Heptane, Tetradecane, and Cyclohexane at 323, 350, and 364 K and at Pressures around 7, 17, and 22 MPa

Molar excess volumes V E have been measured as a function of mole fraction at 323, 350, and 364 K and at three different pressures around 7.5, 16, and 22 MPa for three binary liquid systems, 1,4-dioxane + heptane, + tetradecane, and + cyclohexane, by using vibrating-tube densimetry. All excess volumes are positive and show similar temperature and pressure dependence ; i.e., V E increases when temperature increases and decreases when the pressure is increased.

The density ρ, speed of sound u, and viscosity η of eight binary mixtures of ethanenitrile and propanenitrile with methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, and butyl acetate and of adiponitrile with ethyl acetate and butyl acetate have been measured at 303.15 K. The isentropic compressibility K S , excess volume V E , and excess isentropic compressibility K S E have been calculated therefrom. The values of V E and K S E are explainable by considering the varying extent of interactions and the difference in free volumes between unlike components.

Densities of Mixtures of Heptane + Methyl 1,1-Dimethylethyl Ether at Temperatures between 243.16 and 333.14 K

With government mandates for including oxygenates (alcohols or ethers) in motor fuels, there is a need to develop accurate density tables for custody transfer purposes. This paper reports densities and excess volumes of binary mixtures of heptane and methyl 1,1-dimethylethyl ether (methyl tert-butyl ether, MTBE) at 243.16, 278.15, 288.17, 293,10, 313.14, and 333.14 K. Data were obtained at 0.34, 1.72, and 4.83 MPa. Mixture compositions were between 5 and 95 mol %. Equimolar excess volumes are about 0.4 cm{sup 3}/mol and are weak functions of temperature and pressure.

Excess Volumes of Binary Mixtures of Tetralin with n-Alkanes from 293.15 to 313.15 K

Excess volumes V E for binary mixtures of tetralin with hexane, heptane, octane, nonane, and decane have been determined from density measurements at temperatures from 293.15 to 313.15 K. V E is negative over the whole composition range and becomes more negative with an increase in temperature. At each temperature, V E increases as the carbon number of the n-alkane decreases. The cubic expansion coefficients of tetralin and n-alkanes are also reported

Excess volumes of binary mixtures of ethylbenzene with octanol, nonanol and dodecanol from 50 to 100�C and 0.1 to 7.5 MPa

The excess volume VE of binary mixtures of octanol, nonanol and dodecanol in ethylbenzene have been calculated from the densities measured with a vibrating tube densimeter at temperatures from 50 to 100 °C and at pressures from 0.1 to 7.5 MPa. The values of VE are positive for all the three mixtures in the complete temperature, pressure and mole fraction ranges studied. The maxima in VE is observed at 0.4 mole fraction of alkanol. The results are discussed in terms of specific interactions present in the binary mixtures. The second order thermodynamic quantities (∂VE/∂T)p,(∂VE/∂P)T and (∂VE/∂P)T which have been derived from the effect of temperature and pressure on VE, indicate an overall net creation of order in the binary mixtures of ethylbenzene with higher homologues of alkanols.

Excess Volumes of Binary Mixtures of Benzene + 1-Alkanols at 298.15 and 308.15 K

Excess molar volumes V[sup E] of the binary mixtures of benzene + 1-butanol, + 1-pentanol, + 1-hexanol, + 1-heptanol, + 1-octanol, + 1-nonanol, or + 1-decanol are presented at 298.15 and 308.15 K. The values of V[sup E] are positive over the entire range of composition for these mixtures. All the measurements were made at constant temperature, employing a thermostat that could be maintained to [+-]0.01 K. The error in V[sup E] is estimated to be less than 0.02 cm[sup 3]/mol.

Excess Volumes of 1-Propanol and 2-Propanol with Aromatic Hydrocarbons at 298.15 K

The excess volumes for binary mixtures of 1-propanol or 2-propanol + benzene, + toluene, + o-xylene, + m-xylene, and + p-xylene have been measured over the entire range of composition at 298.15 K. The excess volume curves for 1-propanol + toluene, + o-xylene, and + p-xylene systems are sigmoids. For other mixtures, the V[sup E] values are positive over most of the concentration range, but are slightly negative at x[sub 1] > 0.8. The system 2-propanol + benzene is positive over the entire range of composition.

Excess volume data on mixing for binary mixtures of triethylamine with benzene toluene o-xylene, m-xylene, p-xylene and ethylbenzene have been measured as a function of composition at 308.15 K. The V E values are negative in mixtures of triethylamine with toluene o-xylene, m-xylene, p-xylene and ethylbenzene and an inversion of sign from positive to negative is observed in the mixture triethylamine with benzene. The experimental V E are analysed in the light of Flory theory.

Excess volumes of binary mixtures of 1,3-dichloropropane with isomeric butanols at 298.15 and 313.15 K

Excess molar volumes, V[sub m][sup E], for binary mixtures of 1,3-dichloropropane with 1-butanol, 2-butanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, and 2-methyl-2-propanol have been determined from density measurements at 298.15 and 313.15 K by means of an Anton Paar DMA-58 vibrating tube densimeter. V[sub m][sup E] is positive over the whole composition range except for mixtures containing 1-butanol and 2-methyl-1-propanol at 298.15 K in which V[sub m][sup E] shows negative values at low mole fractions of dichloroalkane.

Excess molar volumes (V E ) for binary mixtures containing cyclic ethers and 1-alkanols (C 6 -C 9 ) have been measured at atmospheric pressure and 298.15 K by using a vibrating-tube densimeter. The experimental data were correlated by means of a polynomial function. The results are discussed in terms of molecular interactions between the components and the ring size of the ethers

Excess volumes of binary mixtures of several hexanol isomers with benzene were calculated from their density measurements at 298.15 K. The following isomers were used: 3-methylpentan-1-ol, 4-methylpentan-1-ol, 2-ethylbutan-1-ol, 2,2-dimethylbutan-1-ol, 2,3-di-methylbutan-1-ol, 3,3-dimethylbutan-1-ol, hexan-3-ol, 3,3-dimethylbutan-2-ol and 2,3-di-methylbutan-2-ol. For all mixtures the v E values are positive over the entire range of composition and the curves show an asymmetrical form whose interpretation is discussed.
