English Abstract: According to the financial accelerator hypothesis, the effect of credit shock on economic activity involves amplification and persistence depending on the credit state. The purpose of this study is to investigate stability and state dependence of the long-run equilibrium relationship of domestic credit, income, and loan interest rate based on the financial accelerator hypothesis of the credit view. The results of empirical analysis for the period 1996Q1-2015Q4 can be summarized as follows. First, domestic credit has a long-run equilibrium with GDP, loan interest rate, and loan base rate. Second, the analysis on stability of the long–run relationship of domestic credit reveals instability around the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. During the Asian Crisis, domestic credit decreased sharply and lasted for a long time. The equilibrium relationship of domestic credit regained stability after the Asian Crisis. However, domestic credit of the household sector indicates instability, especially during the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. Third, the adjustment process to the long-run relationship involves state-dependence. In particular, excessive credit tends to persist, and thus over-borrowing and deepening in the credit leverage may weaken financial stability. As it provides an empirical assessment of the stability and the state-dependent characteristics of domestic credit, this study is useful and necessary.
