Evolution of information systems and technologies in the hospitality and tourism sector: a historical perspective

The article examines the influence of information systems on the growth of the tourism industry. Historically, these technologies have enhanced service in the hotel and restaurant sectors. Tourism is characterised by a high volume of diverse information flows that require constant updating and rapid exchange operations. For instance, the implementation of new technologies involves automating numerous hotel processes, including electronic reservation systems, which can contribute to improving service quality. The text provides data on the use of information technologies and automated management systems in hotels and restaurants in Ukraine and worldwide, highlighting significant prospects in this direction. Additionally, it mentions programs initially developed by Ukrainian companies. When selecting a system, factors such as price and reliability are crucial as many systems share similar functional characteristics. This article outlines the history, development, and widespread adoption of computer reservation systems (CRS). CRS has expanded the range of services and reduced the cost of electronic booking and reservation services. The expansion of tourism activities has occurred in all areas of the industry, including accommodation and entertainment. The research provides information on global reservation systems such as Amadeus, Sabre, Galileo, and Worldspan (Travelport), as well as Ukrainian reservation systems in tourism. The development opportunities of the tourism industry are closely linked to the capabilities of the Internet in modern conditions. Thousands of tour operators, travel agencies, hotels, and airlines operate successfully online, along with ten reservation systems for tourism services. The network provides reliable information support and an additional electronic channel for implementing tourism services.

Evolution and Dynamics of Technology Based Accounting Information: A Bibliometric Study

This bibliometric study delves into the evolution and dynamics of technology-based accounting information systems (AIS), exploring the intersection of technological advancements and accounting practices. The integration of technology in accounting has catalyzed significant transformations, reshaping how financial data is managed, analyzed, and reported. Through a comprehensive analysis of 780 publications spanning from 1977 to 2024, this research uncovers key trends, influential works, and emerging themes in the field of technology-based AIS. Utilizing bibliometric techniques such as co-citation analysis and network visualization, the study provides insights into the collaborative landscape, thematic clusters, and temporal trends within the domain of technology-based AIS research. The findings shed light on the evolution of AIS research, highlighting the increasing relevance of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain, while also identifying potential areas for future investigation.

The Evolution of Case Management System (CMS) in Indian District Judiciary

The rapid evolution of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) presents a dual scenario of opportunities and challenges in service delivery systems, especially in meeting the expectations of digitally literate citizens. As various sectors move towards online platforms for service provision, including food delivery, healthcare, and retail, a critical need arises to extend similar conveniences to the judicial domain. By embracing technology, we can enhance the accessibility and efficiency of legal services, benefiting individuals across diverse demographics and instilling hope for a more efficient and accessible judicial system. In India, the judicial system, overseen predominantly by Judicial Service Officers, has undergone significant transitions, departing from historical practices involving Civil Service Officers. This paper makes a unique contribution to the discourse on modernising judicial processes by exploring the adoption of technology-driven solutions such as the Case Management System (CMS) in the District Judiciaries of India. Through a comprehensive investigation into the dynamics of case management within Indian District Courts, with a specific emphasis on the utilisation and impact of CMS, this research aims to foster accessibility, transparency, and the consolidation of the rule of law. Additionally, the paper reviews global experiences, such as the implementation of e-court initiatives in various countries, including Malaysia and the United Kingdom, shedding light on the transformative potential of technology in enhancing judicial efficiency and service quality. This study highlights the significance of efficient case management in ensuring timely justice delivery, resource optimisation, litigant satisfaction, transparency, and upholding the rule of law, but also provides practical insights into the evolution of Case Information System (CIS) in Indian district courts. From CIS 1.0 to the latest iteration, CIS 3.2, this research delves into the technological advancements and potential challenges and solutions associated with their implementation. Ultimately, this research advocates for a forward-looking approach to leveraging technology to create a more efficient, transparent, and accessible judicial framework in India and beyond.

Green Information Systems—A Bibliometric Analysis of the Literature from 2000 to 2023

This review investigates the evolution of green information systems (ISs) based on an examination of the literature spanning the years 2000 to 2023. Using bibliographic analysis, a method that enables the study of a large volume of sources, this paper establishes connections among pertinent concepts in the green ISs field, outlining the authors’ interests in the analysed period. Based on the identification of key trends, primary directions, interdisciplinary initiatives, and emerging areas, the assessment reveals that the interest in minimizing the negative impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on the environment is a relevant research topic, with significant evolution in the analysed period. On this basis, this study emphasizes the need for the integration of environmental protection in all stages of the IS life cycle and in all industries, a holistic approach we consider essential for the sustainable growth of the ICT-based societal domains.

Automated mapping process of frontal area and thermal potential indexes: GIS algorithm development and implementation

The impacts of urban areas on microclimate conditions are well-known and highlight the importance of climatological guided urban planning. The growth and evolution of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have set a backdrop for implementing strategies to apply urban climatological knowledge in planning daily practice. This research brings algorithms to automate the Frontal Area Index (FAI) and Thermal Potential Index (TPI) mapping process. This type of algorithms type facilitates the extraction of detailed spatial information for the decision-making process, making it highly relevant for urban planning and management. Their calculation method is implemented as ESRI © ArcGIS Pro embedded Python Stand Alone Script Tools, using the Python ArcPy library to access the ArcGIS geoprocessing functions. The algorithms are described in detail, allowing their implementation in other GIS platforms. The output maps allow the urban thermal conditions and morphology assessment. The findings from this research may substantially contribute both to the advance in the urban climatology scientific field and to guide urban planners' and managers' practical decision making.

A Conceptual Framework toward Knowledge Ambidexterity Using Information Systems and Knowledge Management

ABSTRACTThis review analyzes the impact of knowledge management (KM) and information systems (IS) on knowledge ambidexterity and demonstrates how organizations can achieve knowledge ambidexterity. We conduct a systematic literature review of 65 journal articles from scholarly databases, from which we identify the antecedents of knowledge ambidexterity. Based on our critical review, we create a conceptual framework to achieve knowledge ambidexterity. Subsequently, we discuss the evolution of IS and its relationship with knowledge ambidexterity to demonstrate how organizations can achieve knowledge ambidexterity. The review shows a lack of studies that examine how firms can leverage the benefits of KM and IS to achieve knowledge ambidexterity. We propose that the combination of exploration and exploitation processes can achieve knowledge ambidexterity. Our framework proposes the use of contemporary IS tools, such as Big Data, to balance the knowledge exploration and exploitation processes. These recommendations have implications for promoting knowledge ambidexterity in organizations.

Student Engagement and Educational Benefits of Web GIS-Based Projects

The evolution of geographic information systems (GIS) based on the internet (Web GIS) created new opportunities for the use of GIS technology in education. In the present study a learning environment was developed which incorporates the project-based learning (PBL) methodology based on Web GIS technology. In this context, 3 research projects (GIS based projects) were designed and implemented. Project 1 and 2 combined fieldwork and GIS, and the topic was related to local community issues. Project 3 was an internal project since it was conducted only in the computer lab with data collected from the internet. In order to investigate the effectiveness of this learning environment in students' engagement, a quasi-experimental study was conducted on 58 senior high school students. A pre-test was conducted in advance and a post-test upon concluding all three projects. The results reveal the pedagogical value of the aforementioned learning environment, since it provides multiple pedagogical benefits, having a positive effect on students' engagement.

Evolution of the Information System in Public Institutions: The Case of the Ministry of Finance in Lebanon

The performance of public administrations is centered on the Information System (IS) since its role is no longer limited to control but extends outwards to offer the best services to citizens (Homburg, 2008). In this perspective, several studies have been carried out on the evolution of IS in the public sector in order to improve its performance in terms of time and cost. Studies conducted in developed countries (Heeks, 2002; Liu, 2010) have shown that the evolution of IS in terms of hardware and skills has not only favored the rapid processing of transactions and the minimization of costs, but also limited the corruption and promoted efficient data storage to avoid duplication of information. On the other hand, research in developing countries (Moon, 2002; Azeez and Venter, 2012) has revealed the adoption of digital IS (developed software, Internet, etc.) but without leading to better management of citizen service delivery. The reasons cited and analyzed are related to the misuse of IT tools, the neglect of certain treatments, the resistance of employees to innovation and the limited level of education of citizens. The contradictions in the results of the use of IS in developed and developing countries led us to address the following question: How and why has IS evolved in the Lebanese public sector? From this question arise four main objectives: 1- Analyze the evolution of IS at the Lebanese Ministry of Finance. 2- Discover the reasons for the adoption of a digital IS in the Lebanese Ministry of Finance 3-Diagnose the factors of IS use at the Lebanese Ministry of Finance 4-Recommend actions to be taken to improve the performance of the IS in the Lebanese Ministry of Finance Keywords: Evolution of IS, Digital IS, Performance, E-Taxation, State institution.

Geographic information systems and their application in the social sciences: A literature review

This article presents a bibliographic review on the evolution of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and their integration in the social sciences, which is important because the interrelation of these areas contributes to the knowledge of the people. In this sense, the objective was to contribute to the university academic knowledge, through the compilation, classification, analysis and synthesis of scientific works according to the subject treated. For this purpose, the historical, synthetic, dialectical, and analytical methods were used, with a descriptive and documentary type of research, obtaining as a result that the GIS are very useful in different fields of social sciences, ranging from archeology to sociology, including specific topics such as economics and criminology.

Evolution and Adaptability of HRIS in Indian Banking Sector: A Selected Case of Public and Private Banks of Delhi Region

The purpose of this study is to trace the evolution of human resource information system as well as bank employees’ adaptability to human resource information system. Evolution is grouped into five phases, which starts from 1945 to present day. The adaptability is traced using primary data collected with the help of a structured questionnaire which is distributed among bank employees working in public and private sector banks in the Delhi region. The result concluded that HRIS plays an important role in making work life balance for employees and make their wok easy.

Second law of information dynamics

One of the most powerful laws in physics is the second law of thermodynamics, which states that the entropy of any system remains constant or increases over time. In fact, the second law is applicable to the evolution of the entire universe and Clausius stated, “The entropy of the universe tends to a maximum.” Here, we examine the time evolution of information systems, defined as physical systems containing information states within Shannon’s information theory framework. Our observations allow the introduction of the second law of information dynamics (infodynamics). Using two different information systems, digital data storage and a biological RNA genome, we demonstrate that the second law of infodynamics requires the information entropy to remain constant or to decrease over time. This is exactly the opposite to the evolution of the physical entropy, as dictated by the second law of thermodynamics. The surprising result obtained here has massive implications for future developments in genomic research, evolutionary biology, computing, big data, physics, and cosmology.

User Perception of New E-Health Challenges: Implications for the Care Process.

Establishing new models of health care and new forms of professional health-patient communication are lines of development in the field of health care. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the evolution of information systems and communication platforms to guarantee continuity of care and compliance with social distancing measures. Our objective in this article was, firstly, to know the expectations of patients treated in the healthcare processes “cervical cancer” and “pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium” regarding online access to their clinical history and follow-up in the care process. Secondly, we analyzed times involved in the cervical cancer process to find points of improvement in waiting times when digital tools were used for communication with the patient. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on 120 women included in any of the aforementioned processes using a hetero-administered questionnaire. The analysis of times was carried out using the Business Intelligence tool Biwer Analytics®. Patients showed interest in knowing their results before the appointment with the doctor and would avoid appointments with their doctor if the right conditions were met. Most recognized that this action would relieve their restlessness and anxiety. They were highly interested in receiving recommendations to improve their health status. It was estimated that there was room for improvement in the times involved in the care process, which could be shortened by 34.48 days if communication of results were through digital information access technologies. This would favor the optimization of time, resources and user perception.

Evolution of accounting and information systems in cashless payments

Introduction. Digitalization of the market economy creates conditions for minimizing cash payments. The abandonment from cash payments is justified by positive trends in: distancing e-commerce, the use of cashless payment systems and pandemic changes in socio-economic processes. Changes in the cash payments methods require the introduction of accounting and information systems for electronic recording of money operations, accounting and reporting of payment transactions, guarantees for the safety and control of cashless money.Purpose. The aim of the article is to research the evolution of accounting and information systems in the implementation of cashless payments in international and domestic markets for payment services, theoretical justification of the definition of «cashless payments» and develop proposals for their streamlining.Method. Methods of scientific research are: systematic approach to the study of economic processes, elements of the theory of scientific knowledge, dialectical method to determine the essence of cashless payments; historical - to research the evolution of cashless payments; analytical - to assess modern information systems for the organization and accounting of cashless payments.Results. The research of the cashless payments evolution shown the permanence changes in the methods of conducting money transactions. The accounting and information system of enterprises and corporations must timely respond on innovative transformations. The article improves and regulates the elements of the conceptual apparatus for cashless payments using bank payment cards, electronic money and other modern payment methods for the developing of their registration and reflection in accounting and reporting. Perspectives. Technological progress and the COVID-19 pandemic have become the driving force of society’s transition to expanding the cashless payment regime. Technologies for remote banking and non-banking payment systems are permanently improving. Accounting and information systems for providing complete and objective information to business and society should be in line with this progress.

The article is devoted to the latest trends in Internet marketing in the field of adult education, which ensure its promotion in the market. Due to the drastic change in the format of education, namely the transition from classrooms to online learning, adult education today has become a key tool that ensures the smooth functioning of many organizations, businesses and educational institutions. However, in the article was found that the popularity of adult education in Ukraine is still not high, so there is an important task to promote adult education, namely through the Internet. Internet marketing is important because it helps to drive more qualified traffic. You reach more leads that are interested in the educational cource or program. The ability to target specific leads helps to drive traffic that takes an interest in the company. The Internet is constantly marketing for the company. People can access the website or social media 24/7. This means that everything is visible to the audience at all times. Internet marketing for adult education is extremely cost-effective. The important part of Internet marketing is that it is affordable and drives a quality return on investment. When the company invests money in these methods, it will get a good return on them. Taking the time to keep up to date with the latest digital marketing trends and technologies will help the company to stay relevant in line of work. The article reveals modern trends in Internet marketing of adult education, which make it possible to choose the right way to convey information to potential consumers. It is noted that with the help of Internet marketing tools to date, most advertising, positioning and promotion of lifelong education should be carried out.

Architecture in Institutional Management Systems using Odoo Enterprise Resource Planning at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang

Rapidly evolving information systems and technology have compelled organizations, particularly educational institutions, to adapt their institutional evolution. The researcher's goal is to build an Odoo ERP-based institutional management system architecture at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang in order to gain a competitive advantage in realizing the university's vision, mission, and goals, as well as in the future implementation phase of the recommended application portfolio. Information systems strategic planning is a significant transformation for a company, and it is based on user needs that are aligned with business strategy. The impact and alignment categories are used to categorize the information systems strategic planning technique. The impact category methodology is useful for creating and justifying the use of new information technologies. While the alignment methodology (alignment) serves to align the objectives of the information system with the goals of the organization. The Star UML was used to design the system architecture.

Geodesign as a support for proposing actions to fulfil the Sustainable Development Goals

Abstract. This paper discusses the state of the art in Geodesign, as a result from the evolution in the use of geospatial data for shared and co-creative planning. The evolution of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) led to significant advances in geovisualization, the use of cartographic data via the Internet and the construction of SDIs (Spatial Data Infrastructures). These advances fostered the emergence of Geodesign as one of the foundations for territorial planning. The text will also introduce a Brazilian Geodesign platform, GISColab, developed according to the standards set by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The platform introduces layer creation resources via WPS (Web Processing Service), as well as tools for measuring the performance of participatory planning workshops, presently focusing on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We introduce case studies in which SDGs were explored in different ways: in post-workshop analyses conducted by coordinators and participants, as well as its application as a supportive tool for decision-making during the workshop, via WPS. Finally, we also discuss the inclusion of SDGs to raise awareness of its key themes and support opinion building, resulting in transformative learning experiences.

Hospitality ERP Education in the Age of Rapidly Evolving Information Systems

Hospitality and tourism are rapidly growing industries and are a major source of employment globally as well as in India. Tourism and hospitality industry in India will benefit more if we encourage the creation of significant numbers of jobs both directly in the hospitality sector where tourists spend their money and in related industries. Hospitality is constantly changing and progressing, creating various job opportunities. Many of them, however, are low-skilled and poorly paid. For the studies conducted as part of this research, hotel and chain hotel data was collected from a representative sample. The constructs used were limited by the metrics and instruments implemented by the company under study. Several hotel establishments were sampled for two similar studies in 2003 and 2017. An objective of the study was to determine how Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and e-business systems have evolved over this time period. The shortage of skilled staff can be effectively addressed by increasing the number of hotel management colleges that offer industrial training along with technology training pertaining to hospitality operations, where students can see examples of high-paying, in-demand hotel careers in action and make decisions about their future careers. A skilled, motivated hotel staff will help the industry to progress. Students need to be acquainted with technology aspects, and they need to be able to utilize digital tools, systems, and technologies in order to ensure positive perceptions towards hospitality.

The Influence of Integrated Systems on Company Performance and Sustainability

In this paper, the authors investigated the evolution of ERP-type integrated information systems and analysed the presentation of their main concepts and features, limited to the performance and sustainable development of the enterprise. Integrated ERP systems play an important role in managing and conducting the day-to-day business of an organization (irrespective of being small, medium or large companies). The research method used to justify the impact of ERP systems on the performance and sustainability of the organization was the archive analysis (review of the literature), doubled by a quantitative empirical research based on a questionnaire. The analysed information was collected from over 20 papers by Romanian and foreign authors, published in various scientific journals, specialized books and conference proceedings, as well as based on the answers received based on a questionnaire intended to prove that the integrated ERP systems contribute to improving the sustainable development and performance of the organization, by reducing costs and protecting the environment, increasing the quality of decision-making, productivity and data volume management. Following the study, the authors concluded that the evaluation of the processing of the volume of data generated by ERP systems, as well as the consistency, quality and clarity of information are representative factors on the impact of ERP systems on the sustainable development of organizations, in order to ensure the performance of the organization in the short, medium and long term.

Developing a Cybersecurity Framework for e-Government Project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The evolution of information systems has escalated significantly within the last decade as research unveils new concepts. The general orientation to provide solutions to complex problems continues to inspire innovation and new advancements. Cybersecurity is emerging as a critical factor for consideration within the resultant paradigm as information systems become significantly integrated. This paper provides an in-depth analysis of cybersecurity within the context of information systems. The paper examines some of the most consequential aspects of cybersecurity from the perspective of an e-government project in Saudi Arabia. A holistic system is proposed within the research framework to incorporate various scientific guidelines. The general orientation of this research is predicated on the aspiration to design and implement a complex and robust framework within which an e-government system can thrive within the Saudi Arabian context. A consideration of the physical environment within which the project will operate is also made, focusing on security. An evaluation of the cybersecurity environment in Saudi Arabia is reflective of significant advancements that have occurred in information system domains within the past few years.

A Roadmap for Migration System-Architecture Decision by Neutrosophic-ANP and Benchmark for Enterprise Resource Planning Systems

The selection of the system-architecture is critical step in software-engineering lifecycle. Unfortunately, the selecting a suitable architecture is a hard mission. The difficulty of the adopting architecture increases in inconsistence case as in SOA and MSA. The paper answers “when architecture transform”, “to which architecture migrate” and “how”. The paper addresses the lack of evaluation ERPs in post-implementation phase. The paper provides static and dynamic analysis for monolith, SOA and MSA by numerical-comparison and Benchmark. This paper proposes a roadmap for migration-architecture. The roadmap consists of flowchart of migration and migration-decision model that is supported with criteria of evaluation form for assessing system’s baseline and making a consistence decision by Neutrosophic-ANP. Because of the dependency between factors of information system evolution, ANP is used. Furthermore, Neutrosophic set is selected because its accuracy in inconsistence. Benchmark assesses OpenBravoERP, Odoo12 and Metasfresh5.144 to represent monolith, SOA and MSA respectively. Benchmark assesses performance, time to the market, stability, future proof, network issue and cost. They are tested based on scenario tests which grantee that transactions are executed within more than one module of ERPS, simulates real business’s procedures, huge number of records and concurrent load by virtual users. The proposed model and benchmark help “Hitac’ enterprise in two decisions for its expansion-plan in COVID-19 crisis. The numerical steps of this case-study are provided. Most published papers and literatures about Microservices are not empirical. The main paper’s result is filling this gap by a one of the empirical aspects with an academic study support.
