Factors Influencing the Performance Evaluation of Agricultural Product Supply Chain in Guangxi Province, the People's Republic of China

The research questions of this paper are: (1) What factors have an impact on the performance management of the agricultural product supply chain in Guangxi Province? (2) What are the problems in the supply chain management of agricultural products in Guangxi Province? (3) What is the model of the factors influencing the performance of evaluation of agricultural product supply chain in Guangxi province, The People's Republic of China? Through the study of this paper, it is found that there are the following problems in the supply chain management of agricultural products in Guangxi Province: the quality of goods supplied by suppliers is uneven, the timeliness is slow, and the loss during transportation is large. The information systems of various agricultural enterprises are not fully popularized, data between different enterprises cannot be shared, the level of information management is not high enough, the efficiency of transportation management is low, and the quality of transported products cannot be guaranteed.  Major Findings: The research model takes the performance of the agricultural product supply chain in Guangxi Province as the dependent variable, the supplier performance evaluation (SPE) as the independent variable, and the information technology evaluation (ITE) and logistics performance evaluation (LPE) as the mediating variables. The validity of the survey plan and data was tested by confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis. Subsequently, the structural equation model and regression analysis were used to verify the various assumptions in the supply chain organization efficiency hypothesis model. This study deeply explores the many factors that affect the efficiency of the agricultural product supply chain. Finally, a new model for analyzing the factors affecting the performance of the agricultural product supply chain in Guangxi was constructed.

Research on Comprehensive Evaluation Model of Supply Chain and Logistics Performance Based on Economic Management

Abstract The establishment of a scientific and comprehensive comprehensive evaluation model of logistics performance is of great significance to enhance the cost reduction and efficiency of enterprises and market competitiveness. The research constructs a supply chain and logistics performance evaluation model based on supply chain management and logistics performance and performance evaluation with the help of a balanced scorecard, hierarchical analysis method, and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. The supply chain and logistics performance evaluation index system is then weighed and analyzed. The experimental object for investigating the evaluation effect of the constructed supply chain and logistics performance evaluation index system is Y Logistics Company. In the proposed supply chain and logistics performance evaluation index system, the weight of internal operation and customer dimension accounts for 61.2%. Y Express Company’s logistics performance evaluation from 2016 to 2020 shows a steady increase. The increase in customer dimension from 1.54 in 2016 to 9.47 in 2020 was the biggest increase among all indicators. Finally, Company Y performs better in the customer dimension, financial dimension, and internal operation, and its indicators of learning and development and social responsibility score lower. Company Y should increase its logistics digital learning and technological innovation and take the initiative to assume social responsibility.

Determining criteria weights with genetic algorithms for multi-criteria decision making methods: The case of logistics performance index rankings of European Union countries

One of the most critical metrics for evaluating countries’ logistics performance is the Logistics Performance Index (LPI). Although the LPI is an effective tool, it is also an index with some concerns regarding performance evaluation. The two main concerns with LPI are assuming equal criterion weights and ignoring operational logistics performance and macroeconomic indicators. To overcome these problems, this study presents a logistics performance evaluation model in which the criteria weights are determined by GA. This study used 11 techniques to determine the logistics performances of the EU countries across 33 indicators. Employing more than one MCDM techniques enabled robustness and consistency. Median, Mean, Linear and K nearest neighbor techniques are implemented to impute the missing values in the dataset. The Linear Regression method is found as the best-performing imputation technique among other techniques for the data of this research. The performance of the GA is compared with other well-known criteria weight determination procedures namely CRITIC, Entropy and equal weight. The ranking results of the MCDM tools were integrated with the Copeland method. The genetic algorithm assigned the highest three weights to the Goods, Value of Exports, Quality of roads, and GDP per capita, indicating that these criteria play an essential role in the countries' logistics performance. The importance of these criteria is not captured by other weight sets. The correlation with the actual LPI scores is higher with Genetic algorithm compared with other weight determination techniques (CRITIC, Entropy, equal weight). Moreover, random weights are created and the results are examined. Weight simulation indicates that, some of the countries ranking are higher than the other countries, regardless of the weights of the criteria. The paper's novelty is to use the Genetic Algorithm (GA) as a criteria weight determination tool for MCDM methods. The proposed system can be used as a decision support system for evaluating the logistics performances of countries. The LPI index is published every two years, but if an automatic or semi-automatic system can be developed using the proposed approach, the logistics performance ranking of countries can be examined more frequently. This can help countries that want to rank high on the LPI ranking determine which criteria to focus on to improve their logistics performance.

An alternative assessment approach to global logistics performance evaluation: Common weight H‐DEA approach

AbstractThe goal of this study is to investigate the objective importance of the categories and sub‐indicators constituting the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) and try to answer which of these LPI's indicators has the most significant importance and to provide a guidance tool for policymakers to devise policies in logistics and transportation. Hence, this study puts forth an integrated multi‐attribute decision‐making technique coalesced with the hierarchical data envelopment analysis and assurance region. For different income groups and regions, this model is employed to reassess the scores and rankings of LPI that are obtained from the World Bank. Displaying a higher objectivity than World Bank's method, the results demonstrate no substantial difference in the rankings obtained under both the proposed and World Bank's methods. Moreover, service delivery performance was found to be more vital to LPI than policy regulations. In terms of global weighting, of the six sub‐indicators, timeliness is the most important. These findings provide a guidance tool for policymakers to devise policies in logistics as well as in transportation. With the common weights that have been utilized, the results may direct toward different priorities in terms of policies, compared to World Bank.

Logistics Performance Evaluation in West Africa

With containerization and supply chains stimulating global trade each country has to apply measures and new strategies in order to maintain or develop a relevant position in this area. West Africa have now the support and financial power to reach their full potential. By betting in infrastructure reform and resource integration, West African countries might achieve the desired goal of construction, industrialization and a better layout of sea and airports that enables the interconnection of transportation infrastructures. Therefore, this thesis research focuses on the study and optimization of logistics performance evaluation through West Africa. Firstly, evaluating the current status of the logistics system in West Africa. Secondly, since the problem is complex and dynamic, to ensure the evaluation is successful, this research will mainly analyze and focus on the central logistics crossing the West African region; assess the intra-regional logistics systems and develop the logistics systems based on the importance of coastal ports, roads, railways and waterways present in the key geographical points. Lastly, by crossing the actual West African regional statistics with past data and outlooks, a reliable source of information will help establish an optimal futuristic expectation.

A hybrid performance evaluation approach for urban logistics using extended cross-efficiency with prospect theory and OWA operator

Urban logistics performance evaluation can provide reference for further improving its level. However, most performance evaluation for urban logistics premises that decision-makers (DMs) are completely rational, which may not conform to the actual situation. Therefore, this article aims to consider the DMs’ psychological factors in the performance evaluation of urban logistics. Specifically, the cross-efficiency evaluation (CEE) method with the DMs’ psychological factors is used to measure the urban logistics efficiency in the central area of Yangtze River Delta (YRD) urban agglomeration in China in 2019. The main contributions in this article are to propose a hybrid CEE method with prospect theory and ordered weighted average (OWA) operator for urban logistics industry and to expand the evaluation perspectives of urban logistics performance. The main conclusions are obtained: (1) The DMs’ optimism level can indeed affect the efficiency value and ranking of urban logistics. (2) The aggregation based on the OWA operator is fair and reasonable because it can make all self-evaluation efficiencies play the same role. (3) To make the efficiencies and rankings of urban logistics in the central area of the YRD have credibility and discrimination, the DMs’ optimism level range is best between 0.8 and 0.8177.

Novel Integrated Hybrid Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Approach for Logistics Performance Index

There is no doubt that technological changes and globalization have increased the importance of the logistics industry. The effectiveness of logistics services is directly related to expanding the trade network between countries, increasing foreign direct investments and growing the economy. The World Bank evaluates the logistics competitiveness of countries by using its Logistics Performance Index. However, logistics performance evaluation includes multiple criteria, and a realistic assessment process, such as the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) technique, is needed. In this study, a comparative analysis of hybrid MCDM methods is utilized to evaluate the logistics performance of 160 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries by using a group decision-making approach. In the first step, the importance levels of the logistics performance criteria were calculated. Then, the logistics performances of the countries were analyzed. In the last step, the Borda count method was implemented for the results of different hybrid MCDM methods to give final rankings.

Research on Agricultural Logistics Efficiency Based on DEA and Tobit Regression Models

As the link between production and consumption, urban and rural areas, industry and agriculture, agricultural logistics plays a vital role in optimizing the rural industrial structure and developing the rural economy. However, the efficiency of agricultural logistics has been less studied. This paper launched a study on the evaluation of agricultural logistics performance based on DEA model, constructed an input-output index system, collected and collated data on relevant indicators of agricultural logistics in 30 provinces and municipalities (excluding Tibet) in 2018 and 2019, and applied DEAP2.1 software to evaluate the efficiency, and the research results showed that 7 provinces and municipalities showed strong agricultural logistics efficiency in 2018, 5 provinces and municipalities have efficiencies between 0.8 and 1, and 18 provinces and municipalities have efficiencies below 0.8. In 2019, 7 provinces and municipalities showed strong agricultural logistics efficiency, 6 provinces and municipalities had efficiency between 0.8 and 1, and 17 provinces and municipalities had efficiency below 0.8. Based on this, a regression analysis study was conducted on the influencing factors affecting agricultural logistics efficiency through the Tobit model, and the study concluded that the level of rural goods turnover, the level of agricultural logistics operation, the level of education of the labor force is the main factor affecting the efficiency of agricultural logistics, while the regional living standard and the level of construction of transport facilities have shown a significant uncorrelated.

Performance evaluation of agricultural commodity logistics from a sustainability perspective

Brazil is an important player in the international agricultural market and productivity and production indexes have been growing significantly. However, logistics costs cut into these gains, specially transportation and storage costs, affecting exportation. The lack of investments in logistics infrastructure has limited its growth potential. Assuming that the use of transportation costs to measure efficiency does not fully explain the advantages of exportation routes, this study aims to evaluate the performance of Mato Grosso soybean flow routes intended for exportation. The performance assessment considers the economic, social, and environmental dimensions supported by the concept of sustainability for unimodal and multimodal routes. Causal loops were created for the three dimensions evaluated resulting in the inputs used for the data envelopment analysis (DEA). Multiple criteria related to economic, environmental, and social performance were considered simultaneously. In addition, the logistics routes were analyzed statistically through principal component analysis (PCA) and grouped with the support of clustering analysis. The results showed that the use of intermodality affects gains in the three analyzed dimensions, and that the routes directed to the new Brazilian ports were promising but projects in transshipment terminals are necessary. These findings can support strategic decision-making regarding the choice of routes, improving the exportation process, as well as directing public investment in logistics infrastructure.

Reverse Logistics Performance Indicators for the Construction Sector: A Building Project Case

While the performance evaluation of reverse logistics (RL) practices in the construction sector is crucial, it is seemingly limited compared to that in the manufacturing sector. As the project life cycle in the construction sector is typically long, effective coordination among the stakeholders is needed to integrate RL into each phase of the project life cycle. This paper proposes a new model of RL for the construction industry, incorporating the dimensions, elements, and, most importantly, indicators needed for the evaluation of RL performance. The model was initially derived from the extant literature. It was then refined through (1) focus group discussion, by which suggestions pertinent to the proposed model were collated from academics and practitioners, and (2) judgments by academics and practitioners to validate the model. The validated model includes 21 indicators to measure RL performance, spanned throughout the green initiation, green design, green material management, green construction, and green operation and maintenance phases. The paper offers a new method for how RL can be adopted in the construction industry by proposing an innovative model that will benefit stakeholders in the construction industry.

Evaluation of logistics performance of Y garment enterprises in the context of “double carbon policy”

Under the call of the national "double carbon policy" and the awareness of energy saving and emission reduction, some traditional industries are gradually eliminated, and the garment industry, in response to the policy of low carbon and environmental protection, is gradually changing to the direction of green, environmental protection and low carbon, actively restructuring its enterprises, creating a low carbon, diversified modern enterprise system, and achieving low carbon transformation and coordinated with high-quality economic development. Based on the background of the dual carbon policy, this paper establishes a logistics performance evaluation index system for Y garment enterprise, and combines the combined model of AHP-DEA for specific analysis. It is found that Y garment enterprise has the problems of insufficient production scale, low input efficiency and low resource utilisation, which are not conducive to the low carbon and green development of the enterprise. According to the research findings, corresponding suggestions and countermeasures are proposed to actively introduce high-tech equipment, improve the efficiency of enterprise logistics and distribution and improve the quality of enterprise logistics services.

Performance evaluation of green logistics: Paving the way towards circular economy

The linear flow of production causes several problems, mainly concerning the environmental pillar of sustainability. In logistics, a more circular and green production system is linked to the implementation of Green Logistics (GL), which aims to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, the use of fossil energy sources and the return of materials after their end-of-life. Given the need to reduce the environmental damage of plastic packaging used in the production system, the present study uses a tool to evaluate the performance of GL in the plastic sector to help improve environmental performance within organizations and reduce negative environmental impact. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was used with specialists to rank 27 green practices and indicators of the developed tool. Subsequently, the indicators were normalized to create a unified index of the GL in organizations. The tool was applied in two companies of the plastic packaging chain. Results show that some areas of green logistics are being overlooked when companies approach environmental sustainability, thus compromising the progress towards GL. In contrast, the green transportation category presents the worst results, followed by green stocking, green packaging and reverse logistics. Discussions and suggestions for future research on the subject are also drawn. This study presents a practical tool that will help practitioners easily evaluate companies' GL using a unified index.

MCDM applications in logistics performance evaluation: A literature review

AbstractThis paper presents a literature review of performance evaluation of logistics, and the use of multi‐criteria decision‐making methods (MCDM) in this area. For this purpose, we covered more than 120 research articles published from 2010 to 2019. The study identifies popular research methodologies, commonly used MCDM methods and 13 research themes that are likely to continue into the coming decade. The study highlights future research opportunities in each of the identified trends. The review comprehensively covers the descriptive and analytical papers providing a 360‐degree view of the developments in the area.

Tobacco Enterprise Logistics Performance Evaluation Based on Principal Component Analysis

Objectives: Tobacco logistics matters greatly in the development of the tobacco industry. Logistics performance evaluation is a sub-part of tobacco enterprise management performance evaluation. The in-depth study of logistics performance evaluation can form a more comprehensive enterprise management performance evaluation system, and provide logistics management tools such as control, diagnosis and coordination for enterprise logistics management. Methods: In this paper, a tobacco enterprise logistics performance evaluation index system is constructed from six aspects, including transportation, warehousing, inventory management, informatization, customer service and finance. A tobacco enterprise logistics performance evaluation method based on principal component analysis is put forward. Results: Through calculation, the comprehensive evaluation value of tobacco logistics performance of enterprises X in each year is obtained. The enterprise logistics performance is the worst in 2016. The enterprise logistics performance is the best in 2019. It indicates that the logistics level and ability of tobacco enterprises are improving year by year. Conclusion: Seen from the example, the principal component analysis method can be used to properly evaluate the logistics performance level of tobacco enterprises, and provide objective and quantitative reference data for tobacco enterprises to improve their logistics performance level and benefits.

Sustainable reverse logistics practices and performance evaluation with fuzzy TOPSIS: A study on Indian retailers

Reverse Logistics (RL) is one of the crucial topics for discussion among academicians in the field of environmental performance and sustainability through businesses. RL is found an effective strategy for the business, environment, and sustainable development in many studies. RL is imperative due to various reasons such as reducing environmental problems, cost controlling, competitive advantage, and many more. But, still, the area of RL is not saturated enough; there are various issues that researchers need to address. In this paper, we have focused our concern towards the RL parameters and organised retailers in India. Retailers are one of the significant links in RL process and hence their role is also critical. The paper helps to analyze the RL practices adopted by the organised retailers and their performance. A Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution, which is usually abbreviated as TOPSIS generally referred to as the multi-criteria decision analysis method while fuzzy TOPSIS is incorporated to choose the best practitioner of RL among all retailers. The output of the study is based on multiple case studies. Based on the results of RL parameters, the second retailer has emerged as the top while the fifth retailer is found as the lowest among all the retailers. The findings of the study provided a rank of them that aid others to improve their performances. Further, the identified RL parameters as critical inputs indicate the retailers being extra proactive and well-arranged encompassed of twenty-four retailers in three groups. The study’s emphasis on vital factors will support others to achieve higher productivity for higher sustainability in the retail sector context.

Performance evaluation of Masteel's logistics shipping service based on AHP-fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method

The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate the service quality of China United Shipping Logistics of Maanshan Iron and steel company. Based on the relevant theoretical evaluation model and the actual situation of China United Shipping Company of Maanshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., the specific dimension index is established to realize the combination of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. We mainly use AHP to calculate the weight after obtaining the evaluation index through online survey, network data survey and enterprise internal personnel consulting survey. Finally, we use fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to evaluate the service level data of this enterprise and draw a conclusion.

A Three-dimensional Model on Performance Evaluation and Rating of Supplier Logistics in Automotive Manufacturing Industry

In order to comprehensively measure the logistics capability of suppliers from the perspective of logistics, we take the field of automotive parts manufacturing as an example, study how to objectively evaluate suppliers, and therefore to determine the strategies for different suppliers, and select long-term cooperative partners, which is strategic significance for the supply chain management of enterprises [1]. This paper proposes a three-dimensional evaluation model involved with three aspects of supplier evaluation: supplier’s internal logistics management ability, supplier’s logistics external output ability and logistics cost management ability. Through establishing an evaluation dimension according to each aspect, combined with the evaluation principles, the weight factors of parts, performance evaluation and rating of supplier logistics can be obtained according to the problems faced with the actual situation.

Design of a Supply Chain Performance Monitoring System for a Company in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Research background: Design of a methodology for the measurement of logistics processes in production plants to plan, control and manage logistic chain links. The article develops theoretical knowledge in the field of logistics chain management and methods of monitoring them. Purpose of the article: Material flow and logistics performance management is one of the most important areas for a manufacturing company, which significantly contributes to the overall results of the company’s management and its competitiveness. In order for the company to have its resources to use effectively, it needs to have information on its performance and weaknesses in the chain. The condition for obtaining this data is a system for measuring performance in accordance with the company’s goals. Methods: For the analysis of the current state and the identification of weak points in the measurement process, the root cause analysis will also be used, which aims to identify weak points in the process. Findings & Value added: The aim of the paper will be to create a brief theoretical a basis that will enable the analysis of the current system of evaluation of logistics performance and supply chain in the selected company and the identification of weaknesses with regard to the strategy and philosophy of the company and a proposal for changes that would increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the Supply chain. The most significant contribution can be attributed to the proposal for implementation systematic evaluation of suppliers using a scoring model designed specifically for company.

Fuzzy TOPSIS-EW Method with Multi-Granularity Linguistic Assessment Information for Emergency Logistics Performance Evaluation

The operation of emergency logistics plays a prominent role in reducing the consequences of disasters. Based on the establishment of a comprehensive evaluation system with the whole period of the disaster cycle that covers emergency preparation, response, and recovery, this paper proposes a fuzzy-symmetrical Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution-Entropy Weight (TOPSIS-EW) method with multi-granularity linguistic assessment (MGLA) information to evaluate the performance of emergency logistics. Furthermore, the proposed evaluation method is employed to evaluate the performance of emergency logistics in Wenchuan earthquake, five worst-hit regions (i.e., Wenchuan County, Beichuan County, Qingchuan County, Mianzhu City, Shifang City) were ranked as V, III, I, II, IV, respectively. Finally, the effectiveness and reliability of the method are verified by comparison with the other two related methods and a sensitivity analysis. Based on the comprehensive evaluation results, some specific managerial suggestions are proposed to improve the emergency logistics capacity.

Performance evaluation of reverse logistics in food supply chains in a circular economy using system dynamics

AbstractSupply chains are composed of multiple stakeholders who have complex interrelationships. In addition, the forward and reverse flow of materials, information, human resources, and finance occurs among different stakeholders in closing the loop of supply chains. Reverse logistics (RL) activities are gaining importance in terms of size and quantity due to both economic and environmental concerns. These flows in RL in supply chains are both dynamic and complex in nature. Further, the environmental impact of RL activities has barely been considered in holistic way in available literature. In this study, a system dynamics model has been developed to analyze and comprehend the green performance of RL activities by predicting the environmental impact of RL activities. The proposed model has been validated by a case study in the context of a food supply chain. In the company where the case study is carried out, the environmental effects of RL activities have been analyzed. These activities in a food supply chain in terms of CO2 (carbon dioxide), NOx (nitrogen oxide), SO2 (sulfur dioxide), and PM (particulate matter) emissions have been predicted through a system dynamics model for the years 2020 to 2024. The proposed methodology is applied in a food supply context, a major player in retail business, especially in emerging economies. According to our findings, the RL activities in a food supply chain can significantly contribute to green performance management by minimizing food waste and loss; hence, the environmental impacts of such activities should be closely examined from a managerial perspective.
