Methods for Estimating the Load Bearing Capacity of Pile Foundation Using the Results of Penetration Tests - Case Study of Road Viaduct Foundation

Studies using static probing guarantee the precision of measurements and reliability of results which are of fundamental importance for the entire design process. More and more new modeling and calculation schemes and concepts using the direct results of static probing have been developed and still are being developed based on direct probing parameters, which is the result of a very rapid development of this approach, and increasingly more common use by designers and constructors in various research centers working in the field of soil mechanics, geotechnics and geoengineering.This paper presents the estimation of load bearing capacity based on direct parameters obtained from the results of static probing test of ground, which are mainly used in engineering in Poland and in Europe, and which form the basis for new ideas and concepts for calculation. The calculations of the reference pile foundation based on the results of the actual study conducted for the road overpass in the expressway currently under construction near Miłomłyn town in Warmia-Mazury province are shown in the paper using the described methods.

Estimation of Load Bearing Capacity of Eccentrically Compressed Reinforced Concrete Elements under Dynamic Loading in Fire Conditions

Research of influence of fire impacts on the dynamic strength of eccentrically compressed concrete elements requires a deeper consideration. The purpose of this article is the study of dynamic strength of eccentrically compressed concrete elements in fire conditions under rapidly increasing dynamic loading. It is done the analytical calculation of eccentrically compressed reinforced concrete columns under different thermo powers conditions, there are shown the results of calculations and experimental data. It is shown a graph of dynamic coefficient for concrete depending on the time of dynamic loading and temperature.

Instruments of Probabilistic Optimisation of Load Bearing Capacity and Reliability of Statically Indeterminate Complex Structures

Abstract The paper presents the method of probabilistic optimisation of load bearing capacity and reliability of statically indeterminate bar structures, and of coupling of members in kinematically admissible failure mechanisms (KAFM), which contain minimal critical sets of elements (MCSE). The latter are characterised by the fact that if only a single element is operational, the whole set is operational too. A method of increasing load bearing capacity and reliability of KAFM built from bars dimensioned in accordance with the code is presented. The paper also shows estimation of load bearing capacity and reliability of KAFM of the optimised structures containing elastic-plastic bars with quasi-brittle connections with nodes. The necessity of increasing connection of load bearing capacity and reliability in relation to bar reliability in order to prevent bars from being excluded from MCSE due to connection fracture is estimated.

Estimation of Load-Bearing Capacity and Stiffness of Timber Beams with Through-Thickness Cracks

The results of experimental and theoretical study of the load-bearing capacity and stiffness of wooden beams with through-thickness cracks depending on their length and location throughout the height of cross-section are given. The analysis of the regularity of change of stress-strain state, stress intensity factors (SIF) and at crack tips, deflections and timber beams load-bearing capacity depending on beam span length versus cross-section height, crack length versus span length, crack location throughout beam height was made. It has been established that load-bearing capacity and stiffness of timber beams with through-thickness cracks depends not only on the crack length, but its location throughout cross-section height as well. Procedure of assessing load-bearing capacity and stiffness of timber beams with through-thickness cracks based on fracture mechanics methods is given.
