Comparison of the Metabolomics of Different Dendrobium Species by UPLC-QTOF-MS.

Dendrobium Sw. (family Orchidaceae) is a renowned edible and medicinal plant in China. Although widely cultivated and used, less research has been conducted on differential Dendrobium species. In this study, stems from seven distinct Dendrobium species were subjected to UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS analysis. A total of 242 metabolites were annotated, and multivariate statistical analysis was employed to explore the variance in the extracted metabolites across the various groups. The analysis demonstrated that D. nobile displays conspicuous differences from other species of Dendrobium. Specifically, D. nobile stands out from the remaining six taxa of Dendrobium based on 170 distinct metabolites, mainly terpene and flavonoid components, associated with cysteine and methionine metabolism, flavonoid biosynthesis, and galactose metabolism. It is believed that the variations between D. nobile and other Dendrobium species are mainly attributed to three metabolite synthesis pathways. By comparing the chemical composition of seven species of Dendrobium, this study identified the qualitative components of each species. D. nobile was found to differ significantly from other species, with higher levels of terpenoids, flavonoids, and other compounds that are for the cardiovascular field. By comparing the chemical composition of seven species of Dendrobium, these qualitative components have relevance for establishing quality standards for Dendrobium.

Radiation Dose Tracking in Digital Mammography: Evaluation of Population Profiles through Automatic Data Extraction from the DICOM Header

International regulatory organizations for quality control of X-ray systems, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), have implemented protocols for acceptance testing of digital mammography and breast tomosynthesis equipment, aiming to establish quality standards in radiology services. However, these guidelines are usually based on tests with breast phantoms with standardizedthicknesses and compositions, often not representative of the patient population profiles at those services. In a prior study, we developed a computational system designed to automatically tracking and managing data extracted from the image acquisition processes of digital mammography and breast tomosynthesis, stored on a DICOM SCP (Service Class Provider) server. This approach enables obtaining technical reports characterizing exposure parameters and tests have shown that the reference levels outlined in international standards for breast composition and radiation dose do not accurately reflect the characteristics of the actual patient population. Thus this study describes data collection and corresponding analysis for the dose tracking process primarily on three digital mammography systems of different radiological services. Extensive image datasets from these systems were obtained using a new application described previously, with a focus on dose profiles generated during exposures. Graphical representations resultingfrom the datasets are presented, along with analysis of skin entrance and mean glandular doses distributions, average kV and mAs applied during the exams together with the target/filter combinations, radiographic density distribution, as well as the age and breast thickness characteristic of the respective population submitted to exposures in each of those mammography services. Additionally, the extent of information and ease of acquisition provided by the tool for performance evaluation of digital mammography services is discussed

ANALISIS PEMILIHAN UNIT PENGOLAHAN BIOLOGIS PADA IPAL DOMESTIK SOREANG, KABUPATEN BANDUNG

This study aims to design a household wastewater treatment facility that will serve the Soreang Subdistrict in the Bandung Regency. The Soreang Subdistrict area covers approximately 2,561 hectares. At the end of the planning period, this IPAL will cater to around 185,821 residents with a processing capacity of 19,500 cubic meters per day until the year 2041. The reference wastewater quality parameters for the planning include a BOD5 of 93.2 mg/L, COD of 98.1 mg/L, and TSS of 57.9 mg/L. The selection of wastewater treatment units at the Soreang IPAL is based on the efficiency of removing processed wastewater parameters and the standard limits of wastewater parameter loads for each treatment unit option. The chosen biological treatment unit is the Aerated Lagoon because it aligns with the characteristics of the treated wastewater and the availability of adequate land. The planned sequence of treatment units for the Soreang IPAL includes a collection well, bar screen, grit chamber, equalization tank, aerated lagoon, secondary clarifier, and sludge drying bed. The design of the Aerated Lagoon results in a volume of 43,060 cubic meters, with a retention time of 1.5 days. The required oxygen volume for this process is 151.8 kilograms per hour. The design projection for this IPAL indicates that the treated water will have a BOD5 of 9 mg/L, COD of 9.47 mg/L, and TSS of 2.33 mg/L, meeting the established quality standards.

Homology Identification and Cross-Contamination Analysis: A Method for Evaluating the Quality of Biological Samples Stored in a Biobank Using the Advanta Sample ID Genotyping Panel.

Biological samples are important resources for scientific research. These samples are stored in biobanks over years until needed, and some of them can never be retrieved if they are improperly stored, causing them to be wasted. Thus, they are priceless, and they should be used correctly and effectively. Sample quality substantially affects biomedical research results. However, sample misidentification or mix-up is common. It is necessary to establish quality standards for sample identification. In this study, we used the Advanta Sample ID genotyping panel to detect homology identification and cross-contamination. We compared the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) typing results of two different samples and calculated the similarity score of homologous sample pairs and nonhomologous sample pairs. Through analysis, we obtained a similarity score cutoff point of 0.8620, which was an effective way to distinguish homology and nonhomology. Cross-contamination was detected in two sets of mixtures (STD8:STD6 and jj3:1-P) mixed at a series of special ratios. Sensitivity was dependent on the sample characteristics and mixing ratios. Finally, we assessed the effect of sample degradation degree on SNP genotyping and found that degraded samples with a minimal DNA integrity number of 1.9 had complete genotyping results. On the whole, this study shows that the Sample ID panel is reliable for homology identification and cross-contamination analysis. Moreover, this technology has promising further applications in biological sample quality control.

Q-Marker: An Integrative Approach and Scientific Validation in the Indian System of Medicine

Abstract: The prevalence of plant-based medicine has risen worldwide, not only as part of conventional treatment but also for health care management. The authenticity and quality of herbal medicines impact these medications' safety and effectiveness in clinical treatment. So, it is necessary to identify the chemical composition and quality of pharmacologically active ingredients in the plants as there is no pertinent data regarding the exact dose of the Herbal based medicine. Similarly, the Indian system of Medicine (ISM) based products may vary in composition and properties, and increasing reports of adverse reactions have drawn the attention of many regulatory agencies for the quality evaluation of traditional formulations. Moreover, ISM's quality control has always been an important domain, and its current quality standards have a complex effect to assure clinical efficacy. The Quality marker (Q-marker) technique is a new approach in Chinese traditional medicines to enhance and empower Chinese herbal drugs by focusing on each step of the plant processing from its growing phases to the marketed product formulation. The present review highlights the application of Q-marker and its tools for the establishment of quality standards of herbal drugs. Besides, this work also highlighted complies few Q-marker-based traditional Chinese medicines case studies. We expect that it would benefit the manufacturing process control and quality management of the Indian system of medicine. This work could provide a new direction for Q marker in the Indian system of medicine and contribute in the modernization and globalization of the Indian system of Medicine.

Image quality assessment of retinal fundus photographs for diabetic retinopathy in the machine learning era: a review.

This study aimed to evaluate the image quality assessment (IQA) and quality criteria employed in publicly available datasets for diabetic retinopathy (DR). A literature search strategy was used to identify relevant datasets, and 20 datasets were included in the analysis. Out of these, 12 datasets mentioned performing IQA, but only eight specified the quality criteria used. The reported quality criteria varied widely across datasets, and accessing the information was often challenging. The findings highlight the importance of IQA for AI model development while emphasizing the need for clear and accessible reporting of IQA information. The study suggests that automated quality assessments can be a valid alternative to manual labeling and emphasizes the importance of establishing quality standards based on population characteristics, clinical use, and research purposes. In conclusion, image quality assessment is important for AI model development; however, strict data quality standards must not limit data sharing. Given the importance of IQA for developing, validating, and implementing deep learning (DL) algorithms, it's recommended that this information be reported in a clear, specific, and accessible way whenever possible. Automated quality assessments are a valid alternative to the traditional manual labeling process, and quality standards should be determined according to population characteristics, clinical use, and research purpose.

Discovery and verification of Q-markers for promoting blood circulation and removing stasis of raw and wine-steamed Vaccaria segetalis based on pharmacological evaluation combined with chemometrics

Ethnopharmacological relevanceDried and mature seeds of Vaccaria segetalis (Neck.) Garcke ex Asch. (VS) are known for their therapeutic effects, as they stimulate blood circulation, promote menstruation and diuresis and eliminate gonorrhoea. However, due to its hard shell, the dissolution of its active ingredients is often improved by steaming and frying in clinical applications. Among the processed products, wine-steamed Vaccaria segetalis (WVS) is one of the commonly used ones. Numerous historical records have shown that wine steaming can enhance the efficacy of drugs to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis. However, the differences in the efficacy of VS and WVS in promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis have not been thoroughly studied, and the possible reasons for these differences have not been reported. Aim of the studyThe objective of this study was to identify quality markers (Q-markers) that could differentiate the efficacy of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis of VS and WVS, which could serve as a basis for the rational application of VS and WVS in clinical settings. Materials and methodsA pharmacodynamic comparison between the water extracts of VS and WVS was carried out based on a mouse acute blood stasis model (ABS) and thrombus zebrafish model. The potential bioactive substances of WVS were screened by investigating the correlation between common peaks identified for 10 batches of WVS by ultra-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) and their rate of thrombosis inhibition in zebrafish. Furthermore, multivariate statistical analysis of chemical components between VS and WVS was conducted to speculate the Q-markers combined with the results of the bioactive components. Based on the efficacy verification of Q-markers, the content of Q-markers in 10 batches of WVS was evaluated. ResultsThe results of efficacy comparison assays demonstrated that the efficacy of WVS was more prominent than VS at the same dose. Five components were screened as effective components of WVS for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis by correlation analysis. Furthermore, a total of 24 common ingredients were identified in VS and WVS extracts, and 9 of them showed increased dissolution rate after wine steaming, including 4 active ingredients, Hypaphorine, Vaccarin, Saponarin, and Isovitexin-2″-O-arabinoside, which were screened out by correlation analysis. The monomer test suggested that these 4 components could activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis in a dose-dependent manner. Consequently, Hypaphorine, Vaccarin, Saponarin, and Isovitexin-2″-O-arabinoside were selected as Q-markers to distinguish between VS and WVS. The content determination showed that the total contents of 4 Q-markers of WVS from 10 batches with different origins ranged from 0.478% to 0.716%. ConclusionsThis study compared the efficacy of VS and WVS in promoting blood circulation and resolving stasis and revealed Q-markers that reflected the difference in efficacy between them for the first time, which laid the foundation for establishing quality standards for WVS.

Handmade batik with tuberose motifs as creative home industry idea

Batik tulis is a rich cultural heritage of Indonesia, encompassing traditional values and artistic expressions. However, in some regions, there has been a decline in interest and skills in batik tulis making, along with the threat of plagiarism of local batik motifs. Therefore, efforts are needed to develop creative innovations in batik tulis production and ensure the sustainability of local batik traditions. Desa Doplang faces challenges in enhancing the skills of its residents in creating batik tulis with the motif of Polyanthes Tuberosa L., preserving the authenticity and originality of batik motifs, and improving economic well-being through increased production and sales of batik tulis. The Community Engagement Program (PKM) is designed to address these challenges through intensive mentoring, quality control, and efforts to prevent plagiarism. Through technical and creative training, the residents of Desa Doplang have acquired the skills required to produce batik tulis with the motif of Polyanthes Tuberosa L. Mentoring is provided at every stage of production, including the application of wax, dyeing, and the final boiling process. Feedback and constructive advice are given to improve the quality and authenticity of the batik tulis produced. Quality control measures are implemented to ensure that each batik tulis product meets the established quality standards. Additionally, through socialization and education, awareness regarding the importance of authenticity and originality of batik motifs is heightened. The program utilizes a community development, empowerment, and engagement approach. As a result, the program has successfully enhanced the skills of the residents of Desa Doplang in batik tulis production, increased cultural appreciation, and improved economic well-being through enhanced production and sales of batik tulis. The quality of the batik tulis produced has shown continuous improvement alongside the enhancement of skills. Moreover, the program has successfully preserved the local tradition of batik making and strengthened the position of batik tulis with the motif of Polyanthes Tuberosa L. as the flagship product of Desa Doplang. Another positive impact is the increase in the residents' income through the sale of batik tulis at better prices.

Comparison of mechanical properties according to the structural materials of lumber, GLT, CLT, and Ply-lam CLT

The mechanical properties of materials such as lumber (L), glued laminated timber (GLT), cross-laminated timber (CLT), and Ply-lam CLT (P), which are laminated in cross layers, were compared. As a result, the modulus of elasticity (MOE) was 9.7 to 10.3 GPa, showing no significant difference between the materials. Modulus of rupture (MOR) of L and GLT showed higher strength than that of CLT and P. MOR of CLT and P was at the same level, and there was no difference in strength according to the plywood and lumber arranged alternately. Alternatively, there was a difference in the coefficient of variation of the materials, and CLT and P was 20.2% and 11.8%, respectively; therefore, uniform properties can be secured when using plywood. The compression strength showed the highest compression strength in the order of GLT, L, P, and CLT. P was failure by buckling+delamination, but other materials showed failure by only buckling. The adhesion of P passed the glulam standard (7.0 MPa), and the delamination ratio was very low at 0.41%. It can be used together with CLT. This study is expected to be used as basic data for establishing quality standards.

Gas Chromatographic-Ion Mobility Spectrometry Combined with Chemometrics to Study the Changes in Characteristic Odor Components of Galli gigerii Endothelium Corneum in Different Processing Methods.

Galli gigerii endothelium corneum (GGEC) is a traditional Chinese medicine commonly used in clinical practice to treat various conditions such as indigestion, vomiting, spermatorrhea, and enuresis. In this study, the volatile components of different concoctions of GGEC were examined by gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS), and the changes of the components were compared by fingerprinting, combined with principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) to analyze the main volatile components and find out the different markers that can distinguish the different concoctions of GGEC. In the result, the GC-IMS fingerprints of GGEC and its different concoctions showed differences in their volatile components, of which 49 volatiles were clearly characterized, with some components including monomers and dimers. The characteristic volatile components of raw GGEC (SP) were n-nonanal, (E)-2-octenal, beta-ocimene, 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, etc. The characteristic volatile components of stir-fried GGEC (QC) are heptanal, 2-octanol, (E)-2-heptenal, etc. The characteristic volatile components of sand ironing GGEC (ST) are isoamyl acetate, decanal, cyclohexanone, 2-ethyl pyrazine, etc. The characteristic volatile components of stir-fried GGEC with vinegar (CZ) are thiazole, linalool, 2,3,5-trimethylpyrazine, etc. The characteristic volatile components of stir-fried GGEC with milk (FH) are 2-methylbutanoic acid, ethyl acetate, ethyl 2-hydroxypropanoate, butyl acetate, etc. By chemometric analysis, components such as n-nonanal, (E)-2-octenal, 2-pentyl-furan, butanal, 1,4-dioxane, and 2-methylpropanoic acid could be used as difference markers to distinguish different concoction products of GGEC. Furthermore, by analyzing different volatile compounds, we can examine the changes in volatile components during processing of GGEC, which can provide experimental data for the identification and establishment of quality standards.

NDT for qualification of space hardware made by additive manufacturing

X-Ray Computed Tomography (CT) has been established as the preferable NonDestructive Testing (NDT) method to detect inner defects in Metal Additive Manufactured (MAM) parts such as porosity, inclusions, lack of fusion, etc. Moreover, the usage of this manufacturing technology has grown in the aerospace sector due to the establishment of quality standards and the current maturity of the manufacturing systems, processing route and means of inspection. For instance, the European Cooperation for Space Standardization has developed a specific standard (coordinated by the European Space Agency – ESA) for AM quality assurance, processing, and requirements in space applications (ECSS-Q-ST-70-80C) indicating that CT inspections shall be carried out especially for critical structural and functional components. Similarly, large OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) have developed their own standards considering CT as a mandatory NDT method in critical parts, but also other techniques such as Penetrant Testing (PT), Digital Radiography (DR) or visual inspection (VI) are also considered necessary to assure the quality of the components. This works presents diverse applications examples of different NDTs for hardware qualification: Titanium brackets for CHEOPS space missions; Aluminium helix antenna for PROBA3; Aluminium brackets for JUpiter ICy moons Explorer mission (JUICE), the last; or other aeronautic components like Aluminium fairings for the Clean Sky 2 IADP demonstrator, and structural Titanium flap fittings of the RACER helicopter. The aforementioned cases will be analysed not only from the execution of the inspection, but also from the application of different standards and requirements, specifically developed for AM or adapted to this novel manufacturing technology.

Water Quality Condition From Upstream To Downstream Of Mahakam River, Kutai Kartanegara District, East Kalimantan

This research aims to ascertain the proclivity of waste in the Mahakam River, identify the category of waste that exhibits the potential to cause pollution, and evaluate the pollution index at the designated site. Water samples were collected at five locations along the Mahakam River in Kutai Kartanegara District, from upstream to downstream. The method of data analysis using the arc gisc software and calculation of the pollution index has been modified to comply with the State Minister of Environment's Decree (KEPMEN LH) No. 115 of 2003. The study's findings indicate an upward proclivity in the total Fecal Coliform waste from the upstream to the downstream of the Mahakam River, with a significant increase observed in the Tenggarong Area. The quality of the waste was measured to be 5400 mg/ltr, surpassing the established environmental quality standards. The Mahakam River exhibits high water quality, up to 4.66 mg/ltr above the established environmental quality standards, although Dissolved Oxygen (DO) waste is primarily located in its upper reaches. The Batuk Area is susceptible to a rise in the pollution index due to Dissolved Oxygen (DO) waste. In contrast, Tenggarong Area is prone to an increase in the pollution index owing to the total Fecal Coliform waste. The pollution levels were measured in five distinct locations along the Mahakam River, namely Batuk Village, Muara Muntai Sub-district, Semayang Lake, Kota Bangun Sub-district, Tenggarong Sub-district, and Jembayan Village. The recorded pollution measures for these locations were 0.599, 0.4576, 0.476, 0.589, 0.526, and 0.583, respectively.

Case Method Model: Strategies for High School Students to Overcome Problems in Learning Poetry

Learning poetry serves a variety of purposes, including fostering fluency in spoken language, exposing students to a variety of teaching methods, exposing students to issues of global significance, and fostering an appreciation for different cultures. The purpose of this study is to identify effective strategies for helping high school students learn poetry using a case-method method. The research is a qualitative study. The data analysis procedure used in this study is an objective hermeneutic model which is divided into two analytical procedural models, namely (1) serial analysis and (2) detailed analysis. The participants were senior high school students from a private Palu high school in the 2022–2023 school year. For this study, thirty youngsters are taking part. First, students have trouble creating poetry, and second, they have trouble understanding poetry, both of which are significant issues in our research. The study's findings include (1) a case method model that helps students overcome their challenges with poetry writing, and (2) a case method model that helps students overcome their issues with poetry reading. Based on these results, it was determined that using a case method model to address the poetry-learning needs of students in class XI of senior high schools is highly effective in preparing them to produce poetry that adheres to established quality standards. Using proper poetry reading strategies, students are also adept at reading poetry accurately and appropriately.

ADVANCE POLLUTION MONITORING SYSTEM WITH HEALTH CRITICAL GAS INDEXING USING IOT

The rise of urbanization and industrialization has led to an increase in pollution, posing serious risks to human health and the environment. Consequently, the development of advanced pollution monitoring systems has become crucial for efficient pollution control and management. This abstract introduces a cutting-edge pollution monitoring system based on the Internet of Things (IoT), which incorporates health critical gas indexing to provide real-time and precise information about air quality. The proposed system utilizes IoT technology to create a network of interconnected sensors installed in various locations within cities or industrial areas. These sensors are designed to measure the concentration of pollutants such as carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), and ozone (O3) in the surrounding air. The collected data is wirelessly transmitted to a central monitoring station for analysis and visualization. To assess the health risks associated with measured pollutant levels, a health critical gas indexing algorithm is employed. This algorithm considers pollutant concentrations and their corresponding health effects based on established air quality guidelines and standards, calculating an index value that indicates the overall health impact on the exposed population. The monitoring system provides real-time updates and alerts to relevant stakeholders, including government authorities, environmental agencies, and the public. Accessible through a userfriendly web or mobile application, the data and index values empower users to make informed decisions regarding outdoor activities, pollution mitigation measures, and health precautions. Compared to traditional monitoring approaches, the IoT-based advance pollution monitoring system with health critical gas indexing offers several advantages. It provides a comprehensive and accurate assessment of air quality by considering the specific health risks posed by different pollutants. Its real-time nature enables prompt actions and interventions to mitigate pollution levels, safeguarding public health and the environment. Furthermore, the availability of data empowers policymakers and researchers to analyze trends, identify pollution sources, and develop targeted pollution control strategies. In conclusion, the proposed IoT-based advance pollution monitoring system with health critical gas indexing represents a significant advancement in pollution monitoring and management. By leveraging IoT technology and incorporating health-related considerations, the system enables effective and proactive pollution control measures, leading to improved air quality and overall well-being of the population.

Protein content and microbial quality of fish sauce in selected provinces of the Philippines

Fish sauce, a traditional Asian condiment, is derived from the prolonged hydrolysis of salted small fishes, resulting in a mixture of amino acids and proteins. While fermented products are generally considered safe for consumption, ensuring the safety of public consumers remains paramount. Despite this concern, limited research exists in the Philippines on the protein content and microbial quality of fish sauce. Therefore, this study aims to assess the protein content, total halophilic count, and the presence of Salmonella spp. and Staphylococcus aureus in fish sauce produced by unregistered manufacturers in specific provinces of the Philippines. The Kjehldal method was employed to determine the crude protein content, and the organoleptic characteristics, including color, odor, flavor, and aftertaste liking, were evaluated by a panel of 10 sensory experts using a descriptive sensory score sheet. Furthermore, the acceptability of the samples was assessed through a 9-point hedonic scale. The results indicated that the protein content of the five fish sauce samples ranged from 1.00% to 2.06%. According to the required minimum standard set by the Department of Health (DOH) (4.5-2.5%), all fish sauce samples were classified as "fish sauce below standard." Regarding microbiological quality, the Philippines currently lacks standardized limits for fish sauce products. The halophilic count in the samples ranged from 308 to 930 cfu·g-1, while all samples yielded a Staphylococcal count of <10 MPN·g-1 and were negative for Salmonella spp. Furthermore, based on the 9-point hedonic scale, the acceptance score of the five fish sauces was found to be 5.0. This research sheds light on the protein content, microbial safety, and consumer perception of fish sauce produced by unregistered manufacturers in select provinces of the Philippines, emphasizing the need for establishing quality standards to safeguard public health.

Exploring open government data and big data from a quality perspective.

Objective: To establish the key elements in the relationship between big data and open government data, from a quality perspective. Methodology: The authors conducted an exploratory literature review to determine the lines of quality relationship between big data and open government data, emphasizing Colombia´s case. Results: The concept of quality is a common factor for big data and open government data, establishing the benefits, such as innovation, transparency, and economic growth, as well as the challenges related to quality aspects, such as guaranteeing the reliability of the origin of the data, facilitating the understanding of the data, and establishing quality standards. Conclusions: The relationship between big data and open government data from the perspective of data quality allows to exploit the potential immersed in the data, contribute significantly to the construction of knowledge, and thus provide answers to different problems or phenomena

Human activity in reaching its essential necessities will inevitably generate waste that might harm the environment, primarily liquid waste. Domestic wastewater consists of human waste produced through restrooms, laundry, kitchen equipment, and other domestic activities. Ammonia (NH3) is one of the most prevalent compounds found in wastewater. The amount of ammonia is also a critical variable to consider when establishing the level of safety of wastewater. The presence of ammonia beyond the threshold may harm the aquatic environment and other organisms due to its potential danger for almost all of them. Researchers would like to employ spectroscopic photometry to measure the ammonia (NH3) levels of domestic wastewater from reastaurants surrounding Ajibarang, Purwokerto. As stated in regulation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia No. 68 of 2016, the concentration of ammonia in domestic wastewater fulfills the established domestic water quality standards.

Analisis Kualitas Air Sungai Lasolo di Kecamatan Kendari Barat Kota Kendari

This study aims to analyze the quality of the Lasolo river water, compare it with the quality standard for class I PP Number 22 of 2021, and determine the Status of Water Quality using the Pollution Index (IP) method according to the Minister of Environment Decree Number 115 of 2003. Water quality measurements were carried out at 4 points while the parameters measured were pH, TSS, and Fecal Coliform. Based on the data, it was found that the water pH parameter fluctuated between 7.0 to 7.8 obtained at points ST1 to ST4 under normal conditions, which explained that Lasolo River water met the established quality standards. An increase in the TSS parameter is shown at each point with an average of 70-74 mg/L range, which explains that the TSS value exceeds the maximum water quality standard limit of 40 mg/L. In contrast, the Fecal Coliform parameter at each sampling point has a measurement value of 0 MPN/100 mL, which means it is below the standard quality limit of 100 MPN/100 mL. The water quality status of the Lasolo River was determined using the Pollution Index (IP) method and found that all sampling points were in "lightly polluted" conditions with a range of pollution values between 1.0 < Plj ≤ 5.0 according to Ministerial Decree No. LH. 115 of 2003.

Lipid profile and oxidative stability of beef cuts from Urabá (Antioquia, Colombia): A step towards global commercialization

The commercialization of beef is an activity of great relevance for the department of Antioquia (Colombia), particularly in the Urabá region. The objective of this study was to evaluate the fat content, lipid composition, and some indicators of lipid oxidation and protein in beef from the Urabá region. 72 samples of beef cuts (loin and neck) of categories 3, 4 and 5 stars were analyzed. There were no statistical differences (p > 0.05) between the fat content of cuts from the neck (11.64 ± 7.25 %) and loin (10.49 ± 5.60 %), or in the amount of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fat. There was no difference between the samples evaluated for lipid oxidation (TBARS). The lowest protein oxidation (4.48 ± 0.21 nmol carbonyl compounds/mg protein) and peroxide values (2.71 ± 0.12 mEq oxygen/kg sample) coincided with the samples with the lowest total fat content. The results provide tools for establishing quality standards for meat from this region that will allow it to enter new markets in the future.
