News is a text that has an important role in disseminating information. News text is so useful that it has become a literacy material for students due to the development of advanced technology. Although it has become one of the sources of student literacy, online news texts are still classified as having syntactic errors such as a lack of understanding of the language used in compiling a sentence in the news. The purpose of this study is to describe sentence errors in the news contained in the old CNN Indonesia news, such as "December Sky Phenomena: Geminid Meteor Shower to Solstice", "Mandalika Circuit's Important Role in Bringing Indonesian Drivers to Success in Asia", "Solar Storms Raining on Earth, RI Safe?", "The First Candidate Debate will be Held at the KPU Office on December 12", and "When HIV Tests Become a Scary Scourge Because of People's Scorn". This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The results of this study found several findings such as effective sentences, ineffective sentences, spelling errors according to EYD, errors in the use of diction, and sentences that are not clear to the reader. The most common error found in the five news articles is ineffective sentences. The benefit of this research is to provide knowledge insights in the form of understanding sentence writing systematically, which will be useful in improving understanding of authorship in news texts and preventing errors from occurring again in the same news so that it is worthy of being a literacy material for 12th grade high school students.

The Relationship Between Executive Functioning and Narrative Language Abilities in Aphasia.

Although individuals with aphasia commonly exhibit challenges in executive functioning (EF) and spoken discourse, there is limited research exploring connections between these abilities within this specific population. Therefore, this study investigated the relationship between verbal and nonverbal EF and narrative productions in aphasia using a multilevel linguistic approach. Participants included 22 persons with aphasia (PWA) and 24 age- and education-matched, neurologically healthy controls (NHC). All participants completed assessments for EF and a story retelling task. Narrative samples were analyzed for microlinguistic (productivity, lexical and syntactic features, semantic content, word and sentence errors) and macrolinguistic (coherence, informational content, organization, and language use) characteristics. Correlational analyses were employed to explore the relationships among narrative variables. EF factors, extracted from principal component analysis, were used as predictive variables in hierarchical stepwise regression analyses to evaluate their role in predicting narrative performances of PWA and NHC. Relative to NHC, PWA exhibited impaired narrative performance affecting both microlinguistic and macrolinguistic levels. Breakdowns at the structural level (i.e., reduced productivity, syntax, lexical retrieval, and diversity) correlated with impaired story completeness, organization, and connectedness; this relationship was more prominent for PWA. Three EF factors representing (1) verbal EF, (2) verbal and nonverbal fluency, and (3) nonverbal EF were extracted. Factors 1 and 2 largely predicted narrative performance, whereas Factor 3 (i.e., nonverbal EF) contributed prominently to predicting macrolinguistic discourse performance in both groups although accounting for less variance in the data. Overall, lower EF scores, particularly verbal EF variables, predicted poor narrative performance in both groups. Our results indicate that both linguistic and extralinguistic cognitive abilities play a role in story retelling performances among PWA. Notably, both verbal and nonverbal EF skills were found to be correlated with narrative abilities. However, the extent of their contributions varied depending on the discourse levels assessed. These findings provide a significant contribution to our understanding of the cognitive factors associated with breakdowns in discourse among PWA and highlight the importance of comprehensive assessment of EF and discourse within this population. https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.26485627.

Analyzing Grammatical Errors in Student’s Conversation at Tahfidz Al-Quran Al-Amien Islamic Boarding School

In the Arabic language, there are four skills that must be mastered for students and the skill of speak as one of the important skills in learning the Arabic language, and to increase the ability of students to speak Arabic, they must master in linguistic rules, especially grammatical rules. Therefore, the aim of this research is to analyze the grammatical errors in the conversation of third year students at the Tahfidz Al-Quran Al-Amien Islamic Boarding School. and the factors that cause them. The research method used by the researcher is a descriptive analysis. The researcher used the observation and interview method to collect the data, and in analyzing the data, the researcher used the method of condensing data, then presenting it, making inferences, and finally verifying it by the method of triangulation, that is, she used triangulation of the source. The results of this research were that the grammatical errors committed by female students were fifteen errors in words, sixteen errors in structure, and thirty-six errors in sentences. The factors that cause them are lack of interest in grammar, lack of understanding about grammar, neglect of grammar, the influence of the Indonesian language, and the traditions inherited from the old students in using the wrong language.

Errors in spoken Indonesian among foreign speakers from Japan at the linguistics level

This study aims to analyze Indonesian errors in Indonesian speakers from Japan. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The data analysis technique in this study was in 4 stages. The stages are included collection of a sample, identification of errors, description of errors, and explanation of errors. The data sources in this study were Indonesian speakers from Japan's videos. This research showed that Indonesian speakers from Japan made Indonesian errors at the linguistic level; the details are as follows. There were 43 phonological errors: 17 adding phonemes errors, five reduction phonemes, and 21 replacing phonemes. There were ten morphological errors. These errors were five errors of omitting prefixes, two errors of omitting suffixes, one error in the aspect of omitting confixes, and errors in using inappropriate prefixes. There were nine syntactic errors: 4 errors in unsubjected sentences, two errors using prepositions, and three incorrect sentence structure formations. Penggunaan Tata Bahasa Netizen Dikolom Komentar Instragram Yang Membicarakan Tentang Pemilu 2024

Abstract This study aims to investigate the use of netizen grammar in the Instagram comment section discussing the 2024 Election issue, with a focus on language style, conversational patterns, and their impact on public opinion and the democratic process. Employing a qualitative approach, data for this research were collected through direct observation of netizen comments on Instagram. When netizens engage in communication about political issues like the 2024 Election, the grammar they use plays a crucial role in shaping how messages are conveyed and received. This study highlights several common grammar mistakes that may occur, such as spelling errors, improper punctuation usage, and the use of impolite language. For instance, the use of "hati2" instead of "hati-hati" and inconsistent capitalization in "Pak" when used in a context of respect. Analyzing these grammar errors not only aids in understanding how netizens communicate online but also demonstrates their potential impact on public opinion. For example, grammar mistakes can diminish the quality of the message conveyed and influence how it is perceived by readers. Through specific examples, such as errors in sentences expressing prayers for a candidate, this study illustrates how grammar mistakes can reduce communication effectiveness and lower the quality of online discussions. Furthermore, the research underscores the importance of consistency in using formal language in political contexts. Formal language not only reflects politeness in communication but also strengthens public trust in the messages conveyed. Therefore, by improving understanding and practice of correct grammar, it is hoped that online political discussions can become more productive, meaningful, and constructive. The benefits of this research also extend to identifying grammar errors that can affect perceptions of political figures or issues discussed in the context of the 2024 Election. By gaining a better understanding of the dynamics of political communication on social media, it is also possible to enhance public participation in the democratic process. Overall, this study seeks to provide insights into how netizen grammar in Instagram comment sections can influence interactions and public opinions on sensitive political issues. Thus, this research is relevant not only to academics in linguistics and communication but also to political practitioners and the general public seeking a deeper understanding of social media's role in shaping political perceptions and participation.

The Acquisition of a Diglossic Language by Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students: Evidence From a Sentence Production Task.

The current study aimed to examine morphosyntactic errors in sentences produced by DHH students, who are signers of Israeli Sign Language, and also users of Palestinian Colloquial Arabic (PCA) and written Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). Nineteen school-age DHH students participated in a sentence elicitation task in which they retold events portrayed in 24 videos in PCA and MSA. A control group of 19 hearing students was tested with the same task. Sentences in each language variety were coded for grammatical versus ungrammatical productions and for type of morphosyntactic errors for the latter. In addition, code-switched words were counted. The hearing group showed no morphosyntactic errors, whereas the DHH students showed morphosyntactic errors in both PCA and MSA. In addition, both groups code-switched in both PCA and MSA, with more code-switching in the MSA task than in the PCA task. Furthermore, an interaction with age revealed that young students code-switched more in MSA and older students code-switched more in PCA. It is suggested that the morphosyntactic abilities of DHH students are incomplete in both language varieties. Lack of spoken language input may negatively influence the acquisition of spoken language, which impacts further the acquisition of the standard language in diglossic contexts. Code-switching is explained as both due to lexical gaps, when occurring in MSA, and an effort to raise the register in PCA.

Analisis Kesalahan Penggunaan Sintaksis Pada Koran Elektronik: Sinar Indonesia Baru Edisi April 2024

The research carried out is useful for analyzing errors in the use of syntax found in the electronic newspaper studied, namely "Sinar Indonesia Baru" 2024 edition. Syntax is a science that discusses grammar by identifying errors in words, sentences, clauses and phrases. For the public, electronic newspapers are an important medium because they contain a lot of information. However, as wise citizens, we must also ensure the clarity or truth of the information contained in electronic newspapers. In this case, the method or method used is to collect data and analyze errors in the electronic newspapers studied. The results of this research are to discuss errors such as grammar, unclear sentences, and errors in the contents of the newspapers analyzed. Therefore, this research functions as a provider of new insights for newspaper writers in order to improve the quality of the writer's writing and the quality of the language, especially in the April 2024 edition of the electronic newspaper "Sinar Indonesia Baru".

The Correlation between Grammar Usage and Indonesian – English Translation Ability of English Study Program Students

Grammar is an important component of a language that contains rules on the sentence structure construction and meaning system of the language. The grammar usage has a contribution in the language learning process, one of which is in translation. This research aimed to discover the correlation between grammar usage and Indonesian – English translation ability of the fourth-semester English Study Program students. The instruments of the research were sentence completion and error recognition questions for English grammar test and Indonesia – English translation essay for translation test. The statistical analysis using Pearson product-moment formula was applied to analyze the correlation between grammar usage and Indonesian – English translation ability of the fourth-semester students. The result of data analysis revealed that the Pearson correlation value r-counted of 0.837 was higher than r-table of 0.320 at the level of confidence 0.05 which meant that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and of null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. The research findings revealed that there existed a significant correlation between English grammar usage and Indonesian – English translation ability the fourth-semester English Study Program students of Universitas Riau. It is implied that the proficient English grammar students displayed commensurate in Indonesian – English translation ability while those who lack of grammar usage ability found difficulty in translation tasks. This research highlighted the critical role of grammar in shaping translation of the fourth-semester students of Universitas Riau English Study Program.

ANALISIS KESALAHAN SINTAKSIS PADA PENULISAN TEKS FABEL SISWA KELAS VII SMP SOMBA OPU KABUPATEN GOWA

his study aims to describe phrase errors in syntax in the writing of fable texts of Class VII students of SMP Somba Opu Gowa Regency, describe sentence errors in syntax in the writing of fable texts of Class VII students of SMP Somba Opu Gowa Regency. This type of research is qualitative by using descriptive method. The instrument in this research is the researcher (human instrument). Data collection techniques in this study used observation, documentation, reading, and note-taking methods. Data analysis uses data analysis techniques based on Miles and Huberman in the form of data reduction, data validity, and conclusion drawing. The results showed phrase errors in the writing of fable texts of seventh grade students of SMP Somba Opu Gowa Regency, and sentence errors in the writing of fable texts of seventh grade students of SMP Somba Opu Gowa Regency. Phrase errors in syntax include six types of errors, namely: the influence of local language, inaccurate use of prepositions, inaccurate phrase structure, excessive use of elements, excessive use of superlative forms and inaccurate use of reciprocal forms. Sentence errors in syntax include five types of errors, namely sentences without subjects, illogical sentences, ambiguous sentences, excessive use of conjunctions, and non-parallel sentence order.

STUDENTS’ ERRORS IN USING INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES MADE BY STUDENTS OF SMP NASIONAL BANAU KOTA TERNATE

This research aims to find out: (1) what are the most dominant types of errors made by class VIII of SMP National Banau Kota Ternate in making interrogative sentences? and (2) what are the factors causing errors made by students of class VIII of SMP National Banau Kota Ternate in using interrogative sentences? This research used descriptive qualitative method; this research involved 20 participants. The research instrument used a test, the test was used to obtain data on the types of errors in interrogative sentences. In data collection, tests were used to obtain data on the types of errors in interrogative sentences. In analyzing the data, there are five steps: Identifying students, Classifying types of errors by using the surface taxonomy strategy proposed by Ellis, Counting the number of errors, Discussing data, and Making conclusions.The results showed that there were 4 types of errors, namely omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The percentages of the errors are 27 omissions (9.71%), 125 additions (43.10%), 129 misformation (44.48%), and 9 misordering (3.10%). The most dominant error is misformation (44.48%). And the factor that causes students to often make error in making interrogative sentences is intralingual transfer. Based on the analysis of the students' answer sheets, the misformation type errors made by students are because students are still confused in determining the right auxiliary words. The researcher suggested that teachers give students some exercises to minimize the dominant errors and try to find solutions. For the students, students should learn more by practicing writing regularly.

Errors in Descriptive Essay Text for Fifth-Grade Elementary School Students

Writing activities make students active in learning and stimulate the ability to put words together. However, teachers need help guiding students in learning to write. This research analyzes errors in the descriptive text of fifth-grade elementary school students. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research. The research design used is a qualitative descriptive design. The population in this study was 20 fifth-grade students at an elementary school. This research data collection method uses document recording. The research instrument used in this research is documentation notes. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative. The research results showed 14 errors in word formation (morphology), including one error in the prefix, five errors in using the di- form, and one in reduplication. Sentence (syntax) errors totaled 15, including sentences without a subject totaling five errors, doubling the subject amounting to one error, illogical sentences totaling three errors, ambiguous sentences or ambiguous sentences totaling two errors, deletion of conjunctions totaling one error, sentence order incorrectly logically amounted to one error, and sentences influenced by foreign language structures amounted to one error. There were 25 spelling errors, including four errors in the use of capital letters in the title of the essay, nine errors in the use of capital letters at the beginning of sentences, eight errors in the use of capital letters in the middle of sentences, and four errors in the use of abbreviations and acronyms.

AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ERRORS IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT A CASE STUDY IN THE SECOND GRADE OF SMP NEGERI 1 ABUNG SELATAN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023

Abstract: A sentence may be structurally correct in terms of word order but may leave the reader with more than one interpretation. When a word or sentence has more than one interpretation it is called an error. Error is a phenomenon that deserves careful observation. Errors bring non-specific communication effects. So, errors can cause different interpretations for each reader. Therefore, error sentences need to be considered by teachers when controlling student assignment results, especially in text writing assignments. This research was proposed as a qualitative descriptive research that aims to find students' sentence errors in writing. In this study, data will be collected from an English teacher in class VIII B with documents taken from 10 students in class VIII B, where students in class VIII B are the object of research because students in that class make sentence errors more often in writing recount texts than other classes. In this study, researcher used documentation techniques to collect data. The results of the analysis of this study showed that 45 error sentences were found in the students' recount text writing. In detail, the researcher found 21 Omission, 11 Addition, 6 Selection and 7 Ordering. By looking at the results of the study, it can be seen that the most frequent sentence errors in students' writing recount texts were Omission.

Examining the glottal stop as a mark of gender-inclusive language in German

AbstractGrammatical gender form influences readers’ mental gender representations. Previous research demonstrates that the generic masculine form leads to male-biased representations, while some alternative forms lead to female-biased representations. The present research examines the recently introduced glottal stop form in spoken language in German, where a glottal stop (similar to a short pause), meant to represent all gender identities, is inserted before the gender-specific ending. In two experiments (total N = 1188), participants listened to sentences in the glottal stop, the generic masculine, or the generic feminine form and classified whether a second sentence about women or men was a sensible continuation. The generic feminine and the glottal stop led to female biases (fewer errors in sentences about women vs. men) and the generic masculine led to a male bias. The biases were smaller for the glottal stop and the generic masculine than for the generic feminine, indicating that the former two are more readily understood as representing both women and men.

His or Her? Errors in Possessive Determiners Made by L2-English Native Spanish Speakers

Native Spanish speakers commonly confuse third person singular possessive determiners when making gender agreements, which is considered an error-prone grammatical feature because there are syntactic differences in their use between English and Spanish. This study conducted an elicited production task to explore whether proficiency in English affects the correct use of his/her by Spanish speakers in speech production, whether participants make more errors depending on the gender match or mismatch between the possessor and the possessum in the noun phrase, and whether there are differences in the number of errors made due to the gender of the possessor. The results showed that sentences with a gender mismatch condition had higher error rates and that advanced L2 speakers made fewer mistakes than less proficient ones. However, proficiency did not mitigate the number of errors in sentences which required the use of the feminine possessive determiner, which is in line with the theory of the default masculine gender in Spanish. The study provides valuable insights into the challenges faced by native Spanish speakers when producing possessive gender agreements in English and highlights the need for more targeted instruction to address these issues in the teaching of English as a foreign language.

Official/Formal letters already have clear formats and rules in writing, but in reality, mistakes are often found that are made repeatedly. Writing that is done in a template or following a previous writing pattern is one of the reasons why the error keeps repeating itself. The purpose of the official letter-writing training at the Department of Transportation Bekasi City is to provide an understanding of the department transportation employees, especially the administrative staff, about writing good and correct official letters. This community service program activity was carried out for two days, namely on 07 April 2023 which took place at the Department of Transportation Bekasi City Office. The administrative Staff of the Department of Transportation who participated in this official letter-writing training totaled 25 people. The socialization method used is direct lectures and questions/answers. Based on the initial identification through the writing process, the writing form of the activity participants still found many errors in spelling and sentences that were less effective, meaning that it is necessary to increase the application of Indonesian spelling in accordance with the current spelling. During the training, the participants and the community service implementation team conducted an evaluation and asked questions directly about the material that had been presented. Then, activity participants understand the mistakes and know the corrections have been submitted by the abdimas team so that participants can properly and correctly compose official letters in accordance with the General Guidelines for Indonesian spelling

A fusion scheme for eliminating input interference induced by spelling errors

Spelling errors are a prevalent form of interference that may result from human handwriting or natural language processing systems, such as optical character recognition. This type of interference presents a challenge for natural language processing systems that rely on context-based embeddings to comprehend the exact semantics of a sentence. The proposed fusion scheme is the main focus of this paper, which aims to correct spelling errors in sentences. The scheme employs both the original input and the masked input. The masked input is acquired by utilizing a detection module to mask any spelling errors present in the original input. By utilizing the masked input, the scheme is capable of learning the real sentence semantic information that is not affected by spelling errors. Utilizing the original input can prevent the loss of input information resulting from masking operations. Finally, the utilization of the Kullback-Leibler divergence is employed to establish concordance between the two output distributions within the framework, consequently facilitating the acquisition of comprehensive input information, all while mitigating the influence of spelling errors. Experiments were conducted on two widely used benchmarks. Compared with previous methods, the approach presented herein exhibited superior performance as it achieved improvements on two benchmarks.

KESALAHAN PENYUSUNAN TEKS EDITORIAL SISWA KELAS XII SMA NEGERI 9 MAKASSAR

This study aims to describe the form of spelling, and diction in the preparation of editorial texts prepared by class XII students of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The data in this study are students' editorial text writings that contain sentence errors in the editorial text structure, namely opinion statement, argumentation, and reaffirmation of opinion. The data source in this study is the results of students' editorial text writing. data analysis is done by data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study revealed that the analysis of students' editorial text preparation errors was found to be varied which included spelling errors, diction errors and paragraph errors. Spelling errors can be in the form of errors in the use of capital letters, the use of italics, writing derivative words, writing abbreviations and acronyms, using full stops, using commas, using dashes, and writing prepositions. Diction errors are in the form of word accuracy, word rigidity, word simplicity, and word prevalence. Paragraph Errors can be seen from the completeness of the paragraph.

(2002) published their seminal study on the impact of self-perceptions of aging (SPA) on mortality over a period of 23 years in this journal; we aimed at replicating and extending these findings against the background of recent discussions in the research on subjective aging. Based on a large German nationwide population-based sample of individuals aged 40 and older (N = 2,400), for whom mortality was also documented over a period of 23 years (1996-2019), the present study is the first to investigate the unique impact of gain- and loss-related SPA and subjective age (SA) as components of subjective aging on mortality. Data were analyzed with hierarchical Cox proportional hazard regressions. The study pointed to the prominent role of gain-related SPA. For individuals who perceived aging as associated with ongoing development risk of death was half that of individuals with less gain-related SPA. Viewing aging as associated with physical or social losses could not predict mortality after controlling for covariates such as age, gender, education, health-related variables, and psychological variables known to predict mortality. Neither could SA predict mortality. When SA and gain- and loss-related SPA were analyzed in a combined model, gain-related SPA remained a significant predictor of mortality. The findings support previous studies on the importance of SPA for mortality. In addition, the results suggest that mainly gain-related SPA (but not loss-related SPA and SA) explain differences in mortality and should thus be addressed in intervention studies.
