A significant step forward for the Department of the Interior's EROS (Earth Resources Observation Systems) program—directed by the U.S. Geological Survey was announced recently. Interior Secretary Rogers C.B. Morton said that an architect‐engineer contract for an EROS Data Center, to be located in the vicinity of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has been successfully negotiated. Total cost of the center is estimated at $4.8 million, and is scheduled for completion in mid‐1972.‘The Center at Sioux Falls,’ Secretary Morton said, ‘will be a key installation in the use of remote‐sensor data obtained from aircraft and spacecraft for purposes of resources and environmental surveys. Under the management of the Geological Survey, it will be a central repository where data will be received and processed.
