Design and Development of a Semi-Automatic Coconut Broom Stick Machine

This paper focuses on the design and development of a semi-automatic machine to separate individual dry coconut leaves into their stick (stem) and leaf portions, aimed at streamlining broomstick production. The machine is powered by a 1/4 HP direct-drive motor, which drives two rubber rollers via a shaft supported by Unit Cast Pedestal (UCP) bearings. As the coconut leaf is fed into the machine, the rollers pull it through, while a precisely positioned blade mechanism efficiently detaches the stick from the leaf. The structure of the machine is constructed using durable mild steel (MS) sheet metal, ensuring robustness and longevity while securely housing all components. Key design considerations include motor configuration, blade placement, and material selection for strength and weight optimization. The design process employs CAD modelling for precision and visualization, while testing and iterative refinements ensure optimal machine performance. This semi-automatic solution aims to enhance productivity, minimize manual labour, and improve efficiency in the broomstick manufacturing process. Characteristics of chicken production systems in rural Burkina Faso: A focus on One Health related practices and food security.

In addition to having cultural importance, village chicken production remains an important source of cash income for most rural households in Burkina Faso. However, strict biosecurity and good management of chicken flocks are required to reduce the risk of exposure of communities to chicken waste at household level. We characterized village production systems in rural Burkina Faso in relation to importance to food security, biosecurity, husbandry and chicken health management. We surveyed 483 chicken-producing households and carried out 20 focus group discussions separately with men and women chicken producers in Boussouma commune, a typical rural setting. Crop farming was reported as the main income-generating activity carried out by chicken producers (79.5%). Seveny six per cent of households sold chicken to local markets. Chicken production and sales were aligned to social/cultural events (religious festivals, weddings, etc…) and school-fee payment period. While men spent more revenues from chicken production on agriculture and household equipment's, women spent more on food, education and medical expenses. The chicken management system is mainly extensive scavenging, with most farmers (81.4%) keeping 5 to 50 birds with little or no supplementary feeding and rudimentary housing. Most producers indicated that Newcastle disease was the main cause of chicken mortality. While men consider high disease burden, lack of finance, and poor chicken housing as the major constraints, women prioritized the lack of adequate chicken housing, lack of feeds and limited access to veterinary services. With locally adapted interventions that build one a One Health approach, village chicken keeping has the potential to secure and greatly improve smallholder livelihoods and household food security, while preserving public health in Burkina Faso.

Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy Use in Chaff Cutters: A Comprehensive Review and Future Directions

The increasing need for agricultural equipment that has less environmental impact has led to energy efficiency and sustainable energy use becoming essential considerations in the design and operation of chaff cutters. Chaff cutters, which are mainly utilized within the agricultural industry for chopping straw, hay, and other plant material, can be highly energy-intensive. In this paper, we discuss the existing energy consumption patterns in conventional chaff cutters, emphasize the role of energy efficiency, and examine alternative and renewable energy sources for sustainable operation. We examine design enhancement, energy-saving innovations, and techniques for optimizing energy consumption. The article shows that working in the fi eld of agriculture involves certain risks, especially when operating agricultural machinery and equipment. It is important not only to ensure high productivity, but also to create safe working conditions for peasant and farm workers. In this article, we will look at the main aspects of occupational safety, including maintenance, fi re safety, the use of personal protective equipment, and other important elements.

Problematic issues of management accounting in the agrarian enterprises

Introduction. In the modern business environment, successful decision-making is a critical factor for achieving goals and improving a company’s performance. The foundation of such decisions should be reliable and carefully selected information from extensive data that supports the company’s activities. Managerial accounting serves as a means of creating the analytical base necessary for effective organizational management. Researching the challenges of managerial accounting in the agricultural sector will help propose ways to overcome them and strengthen the competitive advantages of agricultural enterprises. The aim of the study. The aim of this article is to identify the problematic aspects of managerial accounting in agricultural enterprises and find ways to solve them. Methods. General scientific and specific methods of scientific inquiry were used in this study. Induction and analysis contributed to the examination of scientific works devoted to managerial accounting. Synthesis, grouping, and analogy were applied to identify the impact of agricultural activities’ specifics on the organization of managerial accounting. Generalization helped formulate conclusions regarding the cost calculation items of agricultural products. The results. Based on the analysis of definitions in regulatory legal acts and scientific literature, the following definition has been formulated: managerial accounting is a system of accounting for costs, revenues, and financial results that serves as the basis for managerial decision-making. The problematic issues of organizing managerial accounting in agricultural enterprises were identified: difficulties in determining the cost of agricultural products, imperfections in integrating geographic information system software with accounting programs, specific accounting objects that cannot always be reliably assessed, and the absence of data on the permanent state of biological assets at the time of decision- making. Factors through which an enterprise can influence the process of cost calculation for agricultural products were also identified: effective organization of operational activities, level of professional qualification of employees, level of utilization of modern agricultural equipment, and technology for cultivating agricultural products. Prospects for further research. Future research should consider the functions of managerial accounting and the requirements for the reliability of its data, which will allow for a more comprehensive characterization of the conceptual foundations and create an information base for company management.

Technical and technological equipment of vegetable crops production in Russia

Relevance and Methods. The study is devoted to the analysis of the state of technical and technological support for the production of vegetable crops in Russia. During the research, the following methods were used: analytical, monographic, economic-statistical and expert assessment.Results. It provides data on self-sufficiency in vegetable production, production of vegetable crops in farms of all categories over the past 5 years, as well as changes in the cost of production and the cost of sales of these products. The issues of providing vegetable growing with agricultural machinery and equipment, the introduction of digitalization processes in the vegetable growing sub-sectors, as well as existing measures of its state support are considered. As a result of the analysis of the current state of technical and technological support for vegetable growing, as well as the existing state support for the production of vegetable crops, the main elements that need to be developed to increase the efficiency of this sub-branch of crop production have been identified.Conclusion. Vegetable growing is one of the most significant sub-sectors of crop production, ensuring consumer demand of the population and food security in Russia; in order to achieve the necessary level of self-sufficiency in vegetable production, appropriate technical and technological support for their producers is necessary; to solve this problem, it is necessary to introduce innovative technologies for the production of vegetable products, as well as to provide the necessary amount of modern high-performance machinery and equipment, which is possible only with effective state support for the technical and technological modernization of vegetable production.

A novel lightweight YOLOv8-PSS model for obstacle detection on the path of unmanned agricultural vehicles.

The rapid urbanization of rural regions, along with an aging population, has resulted in a substantial manpower scarcity for agricultural output, necessitating the urgent development of highly intelligent and accurate agricultural equipment technologies. This research introduces YOLOv8-PSS, an enhanced lightweight obstacle detection model, to increase the effectiveness and safety of unmanned agricultural robots in intricate field situations. This YOLOv8-based model incorporates a depth camera to precisely identify and locate impediments in the way of autonomous agricultural equipment. Firstly, this work integrates partial convolution (PConv) into the C2f module of the backbone network to improve inference performance and minimize computing load. PConv significantly reduces processing load during convolution operations, enhancing the model's real-time detection performance. Second, a Slim-neck lightweight neck network is introduced, replacing the original neck network's conventional convolution with GSConv, to further improve detection efficiency and accuracy. This adjustment preserves accuracy while reducing the complexity of the model. After optimization, the bounding box loss function is finally upgraded to Shape-IoU (Shape Intersection over Union), which improves both model accuracy and generalization. The experimental results demonstrate that the improved YOLOv8_PSS model achieves a precision of 85.3%, a recall of 88.4%, and an average accuracy of 90.6%. Compared to the original base network, it reduces the number of parameters by 55.8%, decreases the model size by 59.5%, and lowers computational cost by 51.2%. When compared with other algorithms, such as Faster RCNN, SSD, YOLOv3-tiny, and YOLOv5, the improved model strikes an optimal balance between parameter count, computational efficiency, detection speed, and accuracy, yielding superior results. In positioning accuracy tests, the, average and maximum errors in the measured distances between the camera and typical obstacles (within a range of 2-15 meters) were 2.73% and 4.44%, respectively. The model performed effectively under real-world conditions, providing robust technical support for future research on autonomous obstacle avoidance in unmanned agricultural machinery.

Physicochemical Characteristics and Soil Suitability for Semi-Irrigated Rice Cultivation in The Tandjile Province of Chad

A study carried out in Tandjilé-Est, a region located in the South-Central part of Chad, aimed to examine the pedoclimatic and socio-economic parameters that cause the variability of rice yield (Oryza sativa) in an irrigated system. Three sites in the Kabalaye canton were chosen for soil sampling; these are Satégui, Mala and Djongo; in each site, five soil samples were taken. To assess the suitability of irrigated areas, two assessment methods were used on the two types of soils in the study area, including a Vertisol and a Planosol. This assessment shows that Vertisols are suitable for growing rice in an irrigated system, while Planosols are marginal. The main limitation in Planosols is the low nutrient content. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to improve the management of field fertility, rotate crops, and train producers in integrated fertility management and provide them with credit and adequate agricultural equipment. Additive Technologies for Production and Repair of Agricultural Equipment

Introduction. The article raises the issue of repairing modern agricultural machinery. Because of increasing the complexity of the design of machine components, there is a problem of failure of their parts. Manufacturers often do not sell these parts separately that makes it impossible to repair failed machine components. In this case, the purchase of a machine component assembly is required. The problem of supplying service parts is very significant. This significantly increases the repair time that negatively affects the agricultural production profitability due to the extremely limited time for farming operations. A solution to the issue of supplying service parts, reducing the cost of repairs and breakdown time is in the independent production of parts using additive technologies.Aim of the Study. The study is aimed at examining the complete cycle of additive manufacturing using 3D scanning, 3D printing, and vacuum casting in silicone molds to reduce the renovation cost of technical equipment for agriculture.Materials and Methods. Additive manufacturing is a technology for creating three-dimensional objects through layer-by-layer building. In this technology, there are used a computer, 3D printer and 3D scanner. The 3D printer, based on the CAM model data, distributes the material on the construction surface, and through various sintering or mel­ting technologies, gives the shape of the future part. A 3D scanner allows creating a three-dimensional model of the finished product for subsequent improvement, modernization, expansion or simply copying with the possibility of subsequent printing. In addition to the production of parts by 3D printing, vacuum casting of polymers into silicone molds is very popular. This technology can use prototypes printed on a 3D printer or obtained using a classical production method as a master model.Results. To study the state of the issue, we have used research materials of the Design and Rapid Prototyping Technology Center “RAPID-PRO” of the National Research N.P. Ogarev Mordovia State University. Analyzing the statistical data over the past 5 years, we have concluded that the demand for all types of work in the additive manufacturing cycle has recently become urgent. There is a trend of increasing demand for 3D scanning and reverse engineering services.Discussion and Conclusion. The use of additive technologies makes it possible to produce quickly the parts of any complexity and therefore to reduce significantly the time for scientific research and design. At scientific, educational and industrial institutions special sectors, there should be created areas and centers, equipped for working in the field of additive manufacturing. However, the lack of trained personnel, the lack of basic know­ledge about additive technologies and skills in using the equipment significantly reduces the speed of implementation of these technologies at the repair facilities of the agricultural sector and requires retraining and training of specialists.

By enabling comprehensive monitoring of PPE across its lifecycle, blockchain addresses gaps in safety and compliance. It ensures adherence to safety standards while reducing risks of counterfeit or defective products. However, several challenges hinder adoption. High costs, limited digital infrastructure, and low digital literacy among farmers create significant barriers. Overcoming these requires targeted investments in rural digital infrastructure and training programs designed to enhance stakeholders’ skills. Public-private partnerships and pilot projects are essential to demonstrate the technology’s benefits and build trust among users. Gradual implementation, supported by collaboration between public and private sectors, can transform Romanian agriculture. Blockchain’s integration can lead to better productivity, improved safety, and greater sustainability. This study examines blockchain’s potential in PPE management, offering insights into its applications, benefits, and necessary steps for successful adoption in the agricultural sector. Through strategic action, Romanian agriculture can leverage blockchain to achieve safer practices and long-term sustainability.

From red tape to red carpet: the Unidroit Cape Town Convention and MAC Protocol’s Adventure in Africa

Abstract This article examines the implementation of the Mining, Agricultural and Construction (MAC) Equipment Protocol under the Cape Town Convention in Africa, focusing on enhancing economic growth and sustainable development through improved access to financing for high-value mobile equipment. Africa’s economic development is significantly hindered by inadequate infrastructure, which escalates transaction costs and limits access to international markets. Investment in modern infrastructure, particularly in the mining, agricultural, and construction sectors, is typically expensive for many businesses in the African region. The MAC Protocol aims to address these challenges by providing a uniform legal framework that supports the financing of MAC equipment. The Convention and the MAC Protocol facilitate access to affordable capital and reduce risks for financiers who take international interests in MAC equipment, promoting economic activities in Africa. The article highlights the legal protections offered by the MAC Protocol, ensuring rights against third-party claims and enhancing the enforceability of international interests. The adoption of the MAC Protocol by African States could significantly impact their ability to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by making modern, cost-efficient equipment more accessible, thus boosting productivity and economic diversification. The article advocates for adopting the MAC Protocol, emphasizing its potential to enhance foreign investment in the mining, agriculture, and construction sectors, stimulating economic development in Africa. This strategic move will propel African countries towards greater economic resilience and integration into the global economy. The article also critically analyses and illustrates the several declaration mechanisms available to countries adopting the MAC Protocol, accompanied by a guidance note to sensitize lawmakers when signing and/or ratifying or acceding to the Cape Town Convention and the MAC Protocol.

The Development of Monasteries as Agricultural Units (13th – 14th Centuries)

Monasteries occupied a significant place in the development of Bulgaria. Their functions were not only spiritual, religious, cultural and social, but also economic. Managing different types of property and agricultural equipment, and obtaining different raw materials, the monasteries had a number of advantages in the development of medieval economy. Source information speaks of craft production and trade activity carried out near them. An important aspect of this issue is the central government’s policy of granting immunities. An indicator for the economic “impulse” turned out to be the degree of cultural development, which inevitably points to charitable acitivies during the period under review. Monasteries were important for Bulgaria’s economic life. The lands belonging to them had certain financial and legal functions, and yielded a significant amount of agricultural resources. In this way, apart from being part of the ecclesiastical, religious, cultural and social life of the country, they blended into its agricultural rhythm.

Contact Parameter Calibration for Discrete Element Potato Minituber Seed Simulation

The discrete element method (DEM) has been widely applied as a vital auxiliary technique in the design and optimization processes of agricultural equipment, especially for simulating the behavior of granular materials. In this study, the focus is placed on accurately calibrating the simulation contact parameters necessary for the V7 potato minituber seed DEM simulation. Firstly, three mechanical tests are conducted, and through a combination of actual tests and simulation tests, the collision recovery coefficient between the seed and rubber material is determined to be 0.469, the static friction coefficient is 0.474, and the rolling friction coefficient is 0.0062. Subsequently, two repose angle tests are carried out by employing the box side plates lifting method and the cylinder lifting method. With the application of the response surface method and a search algorithm based on Matlab 2019, the optimal combination of seed-to-seed contact parameters, namely, the collision recovery coefficient, static friction coefficient, and rolling friction coefficient, is obtained, which are 0.500, 0.476, and 0.043, respectively. Finally, the calibration results are verified by a seed-falling device that combines collisions and accumulation, and it is shown that the relative error between the simulation result and the actual result in the verification test is small. Thus, the calibration results can provide assistance for the design and optimization of the potato minituber seed planter.

Improved Field Obstacle Detection Algorithm Based on YOLOv8

To satisfy the obstacle avoidance requirements of unmanned agricultural machinery during autonomous operation and address the challenge of rapid obstacle detection in complex field environments, an improved field obstacle detection model based on YOLOv8 was proposed. This model enabled the fast detection and recognition of obstacles such as people, tractors, and electric power pylons in the field. This detection model was built upon the YOLOv8 architecture with three main improvements. First, to adapt to different tasks and complex environments in the field, improve the sensitivity of the detector to various target sizes and positions, and enhance detection accuracy, the CBAM (Convolutional Block Attention Module) was integrated into the backbone layer of the benchmark model. Secondly, a BiFPN (Bi-directional Feature Pyramid Network) architecture took the place of the original PANet to enhance the fusion of features across multiple scales, thereby increasing the model’s capacity to distinguish between the background and obstacles. Third, WIoU v3 (Wise Intersection over Union v3) optimized the target boundary loss function, assigning greater focus to medium-quality anchor boxes and enhancing the detector’s overall performance. A dataset comprising 5963 images of people, electric power pylons, telegraph poles, tractors, and harvesters in a farmland environment was constructed. The training set comprised 4771 images, while the validation and test sets each consisted of 596 images. The results from the experiments indicated that the enhanced model attained precision, recall, and average precision scores of 85.5%, 75.1%, and 82.5%, respectively, on the custom dataset. This reflected increases of 1.3, 1.2, and 1.9 percentage points when compared to the baseline YOLOv8 model. Furthermore, the model reached 52 detection frames per second, thereby significantly enhancing the detection performance for common obstacles in the field. The model enhanced by the previously mentioned techniques guarantees a high level of detection accuracy while meeting the criteria for real-time obstacle identification in unmanned agricultural equipment during fieldwork.

Sustainability Strategy for Organic Rice Agribusiness Development in Banggai Regency

The solution to reduce the negative impact of inorganic farming is to change to organic farming. The definition of organic farming is an agricultural cultivation system that uses natural organic materials. This study aims to analyze the level of sustainability of organic rice development in the social, economic, ecological, technological and infrastructure dimensions, governance and farmer ethics and develop a prioritization strategy for the sustainability of organic rice business development in Banggai Regency. The number of samples was 47 respondents. The data analysis method uses the RAP (Rapid Appraisal) method while for the determination of sustainability strategy decisions using SWOT Analysis and AHP. The results showed that the level of sustainability of the ecological, economic, social, technological and infrastructure dimensions, ethics and morals showed quite sustainable, and the development dimension showed very sustainable. Strategy selection is in quadrant I (IFAS 1.507 and EFAS 2.266) by focusing on aggressive growth in the development of sustainable organic rice agribusiness with strategic steps, namely: Optimizing organic rice production through the use of production input subsystems; optimizing extension activities in company-assisted farmer groups, inviting non-organic rice farmers to join the organic rice agribusiness business, expanding paddy fields to increase organic rice production, optimizing promotional activities for organic rice products, maintaining the quality of organic rice, making Sinorang Village and Sumberharjo Village into Organic Rice Agrotourism Villages, improvement and modification of organic rice packaging, provision of RMU assistance, and agricultural machinery equipment and developing self-reliance of organic rice farmer groups.

The The Farmers’ Satisfaction of UPJA Services in Yogyakarta

Agricultural Equipment and Machinery Services Business (UPJA) is a rural economic entity that provides services to improve farming equipment and machinery (alsintan). UPJA's good performance will satisfy consumers (farmers). The purpose of this survey was to discover how satisfied farmers were with UPJA services. The method employed was descriptive, with IPA-Kano integrated analysis. The data was gathered through interviews and the distribution of questionnaires to 90 UPJA clients from three classes: Beginner, Developing, and Professional. The results revealed that clients were Quite Satisfied in the Beginner class, Very Satisfied in the Developing class, and Satisfied in the Professional class. The Beginner class's priorities for increasing service were the diversity of machinery, its adequacy, and the number of staff. In the Developing and Professional classes, advertising attributes, personal protective equipment utilization, and team member uniforms were prioritized for service improvement. IoT- enabled crop waste mulching machine for sustainable farming: perspective of circular economy

Abstract A large amount of crop waste is generated after crop harvesting. A substantial quantity of waste on the farm is burnt to clear the field, contributing to environmental harm and global warming. The study aims to develop a technological solution for crop waste management (CWM) by designing and developing an IoT-enabled crop waste mulching machine. This initiative addresses the environmental and health issues caused by burning crop waste on farms. The research involves designing and developing an IoT-enabled mulching machine that can be attached to the back side of a tractor. The machine consists of power-transmitting elements, supports, and mechanisms to distribute mulching material evenly onto the plant bed. It incorporates advanced IoT load cell sensors, soil moisture sensors, and proximity sensors to optimize the mulching process based on soil moisture content and to prevent machinery blockages. The IoT-enabled mulching machine effectively manages crop waste by utilizing it in mulch, thus preventing the harmful practice of burning waste. This machine ensures a more efficient, safer, and environmentally friendly approach to mulching, offering significant improvements over traditional manual mulching methods. The novelty of this research lies in integrating IoT technologies within mulching machine. The mulching machine uses sensors to automate and optimize the mulching process, representing a significant technological advancement over conventional methods. The study offers practical benefits by reducing labour requirements, minimizing the risk of injuries, and ensuring a more uniform mulch application. This technology facilitates more sustainable farming practices, aligning with global sustainability goals. The study can potentially revolutionize the agricultural equipment manufacturing industry (AEMI) by shifting the focus toward environmental sustainability. It promotes replacing plastic film mulching machines with more eco-friendly crop waste mulching solutions. This technology has the potential to reduce air pollution, carbon emissions, and mitigate climate. It also enhances soil health through better mulching practices.
