Total-pressure vapor-llquld equillbrium (VLE) data are reported for the following two Mnary systems: 1-chiorobutane + anlllne at 298.20 K, and ethyl acetate + aniline at 297.49, 348.23, and 397.89 K. The experlmental PTx data were reduced to y,, Y,, and G E values by both the Mlxon-GumowskdCarpenter and the Barker methods, but only the Mlxon et al. results are reported in thelr entlrety. Six GE correlatlons were tested in the Barker data reduction. Varlous equations of state were used to estimate the vapor-phase fugacity coeff Icients.

Vapor-liquid equilibria of the ethylene-propylene system under high pressure.

A new apparatus has been designed and constructed in order to obtain reliable high-pressure vapor-liquid equilibrium data for binary systems. The vapor-liquid equilibrium phase compositions of the ethylene-propylene system were measured at 283.15 K, 298.15 K, 323.15 K and 348.15 K under pressures ranging from the vapor pressure of propylene (0.78-3.38 MPa) to the critical pressure of the mixture (5.00-5.57 MPa). Simple consistency tests were applied to both vapor and liquid compositions. Their results show the reliability of the experimental data obtained in this work. Three equations of state are used to predict the vapor-liquid equilibrium relationships of this system. Calculated values are compared with the data obtained in the present measurements. The calculated results agree well with the experimental results except near the critical region.

Measurement of vapor-liquid equilibrium for systems with limited miscibility

A method for measuring isobaric vapor-liquid equilibrium data for binary systems with limited miscibility is presented. The method involves of the determination of the dew-point isobar, the bubble-point isobar, and the liquid-liquid equilibrium at bubble-point. The dew-point isobar was determined by means of a vapor mixing method. The bubble-point isobar and the miscibility gap were determined by an ebulliometric method. Measurements were made for the binary systems methyl ethyl ketone - water, water - methyl isobutyl ketone and water - n-butylacetate, at 760 Torr. The experimental VLE data were checked for thermodynamic consistency by means of the generalized Gibbs-Duhem equation and correlated by the modified Redlich-Kister equation.

Vapor—liquid equilibria of some n-alcohol—tetrachloroethene systems

Vapor—liquid equilibrium data for binary systems of three n-alcohols with tetrachloroethene are reported at 760 mmHg pressure. Butler's and Wehe and Coate's correlations for calculating the limiting activity coefficients have been extended to the systems studied. The latter correlation is found to be valid for n-alcohols as well as iso-alcohols.

Along this axis PCT is constant at 834 f 1 oc. Figure 5 reports the projections of the interpolated LL isotherms at 850, 900, 950, 1000, and 1030 OC. The upper critical solution point of the system is at xLF = 0.76 and 1050 OC. The SL isotherms at 500, 600, 700, and 800 OC are also reported. Moreover, the figure brings into evidence the four invariant points presented by the system with the following coordinates: eutectic E, at t= 240 OC and xLLIF = 0.04, xLiBr = 0.58, xRbBr = 0.38; eutectic E2 at t= 436 C and xL~F = 0.14, xRbF = 0.55, xRbBr = 0.31; peritectic P, at t = 268 OC and xLiF = 0.04, xLiBr = 0.55, xRB = 0.41; peritcsctic P4 at t = 467 OC and xW = 0.39,, xRbF = 0.57, xRm = 0.C135. The general topology of the system agrees with the triangulation rules. Discussion In order to extend the test of the conformal ionic solution (CIS) theory (7) carried out in ref 2, we made attempts to predict the LL equilibria in the present system. Isothermal vapor-liquid equilibrium data for binary systems containing ethane at high pressures

Isothermal vapor-liquid equilibrium data for binary systems containing carbon dioxide at high pressure have been reported previously. In those studies, methanol, acetone, methyl acetate, ethyl ether, n-hexane, and benzene were chosen as the solvent components. In this study, the same solvent components were used and carbon dioxide was replaced with ethane having similar critical temperature to that of carbon dioxide. The nonidealities of vapor and liquid phases of the ethane systems were determined with thermodynamic procedures and were compared between these 6 systems. By use of the Redlick-Kwong equation of state and the Lewis rule for ethane in the vapor phase, the activity coefficients in the liquid phase and the fugacity coefficients in the vapor phase were evaluated. BINARY VAPOR-LIQUID EQUILIBRIA OF CARBON DIOXIDE-LIGHT HYDROCARBONS AT LOW TEMPERATURE

Vapor-liquid equilibrium data for binary systems containing carbon dioxide: CO2-C2H6, CO2-C3H8, CO2-n-C4H10, CO2-iso-C4H10, CO2-C2H4, CO2-C3H6 and CO2-1-C4H8 were determined by the vapor recirculation method in the low-temperature range (-41.6°C-0°C). The CO2-C2H4 and CO2-C2H6 systems formed minimum-boiling azeotropes. The modified Redlich-Kwong equation of state was used to calculate vapor-liquid equilibria of these systems. It provided fairly good agreement with experiment.

Calculation of vapour-liquid equilibria from vapour pressure data

The application of rigorous thermodynamic methods allows the calculation of vapour-liquid equilibrium data for binary systems from measurements of the total vapour pressures exerted by the liquid phase. Of the methods known, integration of the coexistence equation is considered most convenient. Exact forms of this equation are derived for both the constant-temperature and constant-pressure cases of binary equilibria. Applications are made to the ethanol-toluene system.
