Ho Chi Minh’s Ideology on Environmental Protection and that Ideology’s Significance of Environmental Protection Awareness Education for Students

During the process of leading the country, Ho Chi Minh soon outlined strategic directions for the country’s development, including the issue of environmental protection. Educating environmental protection awareness for all classes of people, especially the young generation, is of great significance. The young generation, including youth and students, is a part of society that the Communist Party of Vietnam always pays attention to training and nurturing; they will become the core force shouldering the responsibility of the country’s future. The purpose of this study is to clarify Ho Chi Minh’s Ideology on environmental protection, and the significance of that Ideology in educating environmental protection awareness for students today. To achieve this goal, the study uses disciplinary and interdisciplinary research methods in social sciences and humanities. Research results have shown that Ho Chi Minh’s ideology on environmental protection is still valuable today. At the same time, inheriting those values for environmental protection education activities for students will bring about great changes in the awareness and actions of Vietnamese students. Proposing necessary solutions will help universities improve the quality of environmental protection education for students at present and in the future.

THE IMPORTANCE OF FOREST FIRE PREVENTION ACTIVITIES

This study addresses the importance of forest fire prevention and combat activities, emphasizing environmental education as a tool for preventing forest fires in Canaã dos Carajás. The social relevance of the topic is highlighted by the significant impact of forest fires on the environment, economy, and public health, especially in the context of the Amazon Rainforest, which is essential for global climate regulation. The research is descriptive and combines data collection methods, including document analysis and semi-structured interviews. The document analysis involves reviewing reports, public policies, scientific articles, and educational materials, while the interviews are conducted with a representative sample of residents, educators, local authorities, and civil defense professionals. The general objective of the study is to analyze the effectiveness of environmental education activities in preventing forest fires. The specific objectives include analyzing residents’ perceptions of the importance of prevention, the influence of public policies, and proposing improvements in environmental education strategies. The research identified the urgent need for effective conservation policies, given the importance of the Amazon Rainforest in climate regulation. In Canaã dos Carajás, rapid urbanization driven by mining and a lack of resources and infrastructure are critical challenges for forest fire prevention. The interdisciplinary approach, using qualitative and quantitative techniques, allowed for a detailed analysis of the challenges faced and best practices. Location maps and satellite images were used to analyze the distribution of fire outbreaks. The results underline the importance of an integrated approach to fire prevention, highlighting the effectiveness of public policies and the need for ongoing training. This study provides valuable contributions to the formulation of public policies and educational strategies, promoting environmental education and active community involvement as key elements for effective forest fire prevention.

Empowering London Primary School Communities to Know and Tackle Air Pollution Exposure

This study tested the effectiveness of participatory methods to engage primary school communities in London with air pollution issues to help them identify, understand, and reduce their air pollution exposure. Three primary schools with high pollution levels participated in environmental educational activities, including air quality workshops and field campaigns involving different methods, time schedules, and project scopes. Participants completed surveys before and after these activities to measure their understanding, perceptions, and behavior. After the workshops, students admitted feeling more skillful in monitoring air quality and confident in incorporating this education into daily life and teaching others. They shared their results with peers, school leadership, and the community and led campaigns to help design experiments, choose measurement locations, and reduce air pollution exposure in schools. The results showed increased concern about air pollution, a better understanding of its causes and impacts, and more reported reduction behaviors. An Air Pollution Exposure Index (APEI) was combined with participatory monitoring data to raise awareness and understanding among students on typical school-day exposure. Feedback indicates that the tool was useful in defining air pollution exposure status and identifying exposure risks. Overall, this study contributes to the evidence of the feasibility and impact of student-led environmental education interventions These interventions involve collecting personalized exposure data, co-planning mitigations with school community groups, and employing methods to raise awareness of air pollution and empower pupils to identify potential solutions and change behaviors.

Water At School: Environmental Actions

Objective: Implement environmental education actions as an educational and integrative space for environmental education actions and activities covering social actors in the southern region of the state of Tocantins. Theoretical Framework: Part of the theoretical contributions on environmental education activities in schools, meaning that water education must be approached from a spatial and temporal dimension as a local approach based on river basins as a unit of study. Method: It was developed in stages: 1st leveling meetings between the executing team and the agents involved, 2nd stage: diagnosis/mapping and 3rd stage: Proposing and executing actions. Results and Discussion: It was observed that the subjects, when participating in the actions, transform gestures, ideas and emotions that allow an opening to the understanding of Environmental Education as care and promotion of life. Research Implications: The school environment is considered a favorable space for the study of issues related to rational water consumption, as it is an environment that forms the character of citizens, who, among other knowledge, must be aware of the importance of preserving the environment, as well as the relevance of sustainable use. Originality/Value: It differentiates itself by being multidisciplinary involving several areas of human knowledge, such as biology, chemistry, ecology, social sciences, among others, and involves various segments of society, namely: prefectures, schools, universities, federal institutes, basin committees hydrographic agencies and the state water resources secretariat and has a defined scope and resources.

Extracurricular Activities in Environmental Educational Clubs: A Way to Improve Learning and Anchor Environmental Culture In Qualifying Secondary

The recent wave of reform in Education brought with it a lot of important changes to the teaching of science in secondary school, in particular by favouring the integration of new disciplinary and priority fields such as environmental education (EVE). However, it appears that, concretely, EVE actions are rather rare in our educational institutions given the lack of initial teacher training in this field. The context of this work is interested in showing how environmental education clubs can contribute to the improvement of environmental learning and education in qualifying secondary schools. The difficulty of combining environmental education with the teaching of life and earth sciences is associated with the difficulty of linking all school disciplines within a reformed national curriculum. However, it appears that, concretely, EVE actions are rather rare in our educational institutions given the lack of initial teacher training in this field. The context of this work is interested in showing how environmental education clubs can contribute to the improvement of environmental learning and education in qualifying secondary schools. The difficulty of combining environmental education with the teaching of life and earth sciences is associated with the difficulty of linking all school disciplines within a reformed national curriculum. The difficulties raised regarding the institutionalization of the EVE are very real and internationally encountered, but remain diluted through the sum of all the problems related to the new curricula. Despite all the socio-educational, political and economic constraints, it is important to insist that environmental education has its place in the fundamental education of young citizens today in a world they contribute to building. The systematic integration of the environmental dimension in the Moroccan education system can be conceived in two parallel ways: the disciplinary contents that must ensure the construction of skills and solid theoretical knowledge on the environment in the learners by providing them with the necessary knowledge as well as the practical and extracurricular activities provided by the clubs of the environment, considered a crucial and compulsory field, which allows multidimensional teaching linked to the concerns of society.

Arachnids: between fear and financial support for environmental education projects

Arachnids contribute to socioenvironmental development by acting as bioindicators of environmental quality and providing essential ecosystem services, highlighting the need for public awareness to conserve these potentially umbrella species. The aim is to evaluate the willingness to pay for informal education programs about arachnids in the central Brazilian savanna using the contingent valuation method (CVM). For this purpose, a preliminary analysis was conducted with 407 residents of a Brazilian municipality with a small population and significant incidents involving arachnid species. The respondents' profiles (gender, age, and education level), knowledge, perceptions of arachnids, and willingness to pay were collected. Quantification, average/total willingness to pay, and Pearson's correlation were performed using R software. Most respondents were women (75.43%), had a high school education and were aged between 35 and 65 years. We observed that most had some level of knowledge about the morphology, ecological characteristics, and importance of arachnids, especially for the environment. However, the results also indicate that older people, men, and those with lower education levels have a greater willingness to pay for educational events about Cerrado arachnids (IEPAs). Only a portion of the respondents were willing to pay for informal education programs in favor of arachnid awareness and conservation. The total willingness to pay was US$ 4,441.28, preferably managed by the state's public education institution. It is concluded that there is significant and necessary potential for environmental education actions to promote the conservation of arachnid megadiversity.

Implikasi Pendidikan Lingkungan Ramah Anak Terhadap Penguatan Karakter Siswa Madrasah Aliyah Negeri di Kota Bontang

This research aims to determine the implications of child-friendly environmental education on strengthening the character of State Madrasah Aliyah students in Bontang City. In the current educational context, developing student character is the main focus in increasing the formation of individuals who are responsible and care about the environment. This study uses a qualitative research method with a field study approach, which involves participatory observation, interviews, and content analysis of various environmental education programs and activities carried out at the State Madrasah Aliyah in Bontang City. The research results show that child-friendly environmental education can make a positive contribution in strengthening students' character, especially in terms of environmental awareness, social concern and ethical values. These findings imply that child-friendly environmental education should be an integral part of the school curriculum, and a more holistic approach should be implemented to improve student character. The results of this research provide an important contribution to the debate about improving character education and its relevance in the context of Islamic education in Indonesia.

Performing yoga postures in an environmental education course: The potential of creating pedagogical places of contemplation for the empowerment of ecological consciousness

The present study attempts to answer if yoga practice belongs to environmental education and how it can contribute to the development of ecological consciousness in the framework of a holistic pedagogical paradigm. Twenty-three post-graduate students participated in an environmental education activity based on performing yoga postures inspired by nonhuman creatures and entities. The participants reflected on their experiences by recording their ideas and feelings. The results of the survey revealed that the participants experienced embodied environmental learning, highlighted a healing dimension of the educational process, and experienced a connection with creatures and entities of nonhuman nature at different levels. Yoga philosophy and practice as a contemplative learning method deserve to be explored more widely in the field of environmental education, and especially regarding the development of ecological consciousness.

School Environmental Education Activities to Enhance Plant Utilization for Students at SDN Kuin Cerucuk V, Banjarmasin City

Students' knowledge about plants is crucial. The school environment serves not only as a place containing various types of plants but also as a learning resource. Some plants available in the school environment have the potential for medicinal use as well as aesthetic purposes. The purpose of this activity is to enhance student's knowledge about the utilization of plants in the school environment through educational activities at SDN Kuin Cerucuk V, Banjarmasin. The activity was conducted at SDN Kuin Cerucuk V with 64 students from grades 4, 5, and 6, along with 7 teachers. Besides the importance of conducting education about medicinal plants, similar activities regarding the utilization of medicinal plants in the vicinity of SDN Kuin Cerucuk V, Banjarmasin, have not been conducted before. Based on the service results, it is known that the educational activity on the utilization of plants around the environment shows a positive response and enthusiasm. The educational activities were carried out through lectures in classrooms and using posters as a publication medium. The results of the education show that there was an increase in students' knowledge, with a pre-education average of 10.91 and a post-education average of 89.01. The improvement in knowledge can contribute to teaching and learning activities

Implementasi Program Adiwiyata Terhadap Karakter Peduli Lingkungan di SD Inpres Ta’binjai Kabupaten Gowa

The objective of this research is to describe the implementation of the Adiwiyata program in fostering environmental care characters at SD Inpres Ta'binjai, Bontonompo District, Gowa Regency. The study aims to serve as an evaluative tool for Adiwiyata schools regarding environmental care characters that still need improvement within the school environment. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data collection techniques encompass interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis involves data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal that the implementation of the Adiwiyata program in shaping environmental care characters among students at SD Inpres Ta'binjai has been effectively executed. The school has integrated its policies into its vision and mission. Environmental education activities are participatory, involving all school elements—teachers, staff, and students. Noteworthy environmental facilities include accessible sinks in each classroom, eliminating the need to travel to distant bathrooms, and medicinal plants on campus for student health. The implementation showcases outstanding and agile initiatives such as green campaigns and health campaigns. Overall, the research underscores the successful integration of the Adiwiyata program in nurturing environmental care characters among students at SD Inpres Ta'binjai, Bontonompo District, Gowa Regency, with commendable environmental initiatives and facilities.

CONCEPTIONS OF SUSTAINABLE SCHOOLS AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABILITY ACTIONS IN A PUBLIC SCHOOL IN ITAPEMA MUNICIPALITY

The present research aims to verify how managers and teachers observe the Environmental Education and Sustainability actions in a Public School of Itapema. The research involved managers and teachers who were submitted to a questionnaire on issues related to sustainability and environmental practices carried out at the school. For the formulation of the questionnaires, were considered: the Sustainable Schools Manual (BRAZIL, 2013), the National Sustainable Schools Program (BRAZIL, 2014), the Curriculum Ambientalization Guide in Higher Education: Practice theory and theorizing practice (FIGUEIREDO; GUERRA; ANDRADE, 2017), and the Master's Dissertation of Vieira (2017). This research was based on Sustainable Educational Spaces, the National Curricular Guidelines for Environmental Education - DCNEA (BRAZIL, 2012); the Sustainable Schools Manual (BRAZIL, 2013); the National Sustainable Schools Program (BRAZIL, 2014); already, for the analysis of the results of the questionnaires, the article by Sauvé (2005) on currents in environmental education was used. With regard to the data obtained, it can be observed that the subjects of the researched school present different discourses about what a sustainable school would be, as well as, at times, their responses converge and diverge among themselves. We conclude by believing that this research can contribute to at least the subjects of the research can reflect on their attitudes and practices towards Environmental Education and Sustainability for the transformation of the school unit into a Sustainable Educational Space (BRAZIL, 2012).

Environmental Education in High Schools: an analysis of pedagogical policy projects of eight public schools in Juazeiro-BA

The research aimed to assess how Environmental Education (EE) has been addressed in Pedagogical Political Projects (PPPs) of 8 state schools in municipality of Juazeiro-BA, in accordance with Bahia State EE Policy (SEEP/BA) and Bahia Referential Curriculum Document (BRCD). The need to include EE in school PPPs is implicit in the BRCD, when it reiterates the need to promote respect for socio-environmental sustainability. CEE Resolution No. 11, of January 17, 2017, which provides for Environmental Education in the State Education System of Bahia, determines that EE must be present in an articulated manner at all levels, stages and modalities of teaching and included in the School Regulations, PPP, Course Plan (CP), Course Pedagogical Project (CPP) and Institutional Development Plan (IDP). PPPs were analyzed using Bardin's theoretical-analytical framework, identifying text parts that dealt with environmental issues and selecting those that were directly or indirectly related to EE. In composing the corpus of analysis in the analyzed PPPs, it was possible to identify essential information for the document, such as the didactic-pedagogical organization, history of the school unit, teaching and administrative staff, infrastructure, among others necessary for its preparation. It was concluded there is little environmental issues internalization at PPPs, showing the superficiality which subject is exposed in documents, as well as the lack of proposals and actions in EE based on current secondary education configuration. About mycology, no references were found at PPPs, demonstrating a gap that does not adequately include this living beings group.

Indoor air pollution: an Italian Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) study among the general population.

Indoor air pollution negatively affects population health and the national health services in terms of socio-economic costs. The presence of indoor pollutants depends a lot on lifestyles. The aim of this work is to evaluate knowledge, daily habits and the preventive behaviors in order to contrast the effects on health caused by indoor pollutants. The study was conducted through the administration of questionnaires to the population resident in the metropolitan city of Messina (Italy), asking about sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge, daily habits and preventive behaviors. The questionnaire was filled by 894 subjects (46.8% M; 53.2% F). Regarding knowledge, 66.8% had heard of indoor air pollution and 94.9% knew what the most common indoor pollutants are; regarding daily habits they often aired out the house (91.9% in the morning and 71.4% after cleaning), 24.8% were smokers and 36.7 of them smoked indoors; regarding preventive behaviors, 41.6% chose the cleaning products based on habit and only 32.9% bought plants able to purify environments. Although the analyzed population had adequate knowledge of indoor air pollution, this did not strongly impact on the adoption of healthy lifestyles. Therefore, it becomes necessary to intervene on a social level with environmental education activities, starting from school age.

Side Effects of Gamifying Environmental Education Activities in Chinese Kindergartens

Environmental education is an effective approach to addressing environmental issues, and incorporating environmental education into kindergarten through gamified activities aligns with the concept of gamifying teaching and provides the optimal pathway for implementing environmental education. The purpose of this study is to investigate the specific processes involved in determining the objectives, themes, and content of gamified environmental education activities, as well as the organization, implementation, and evaluation of these activities in kindergarten settings. Five classes from Class G in Xining City Kindergarten were selected as the observational subjects for this study. Interviews were conducted with the teaching staff and the head of the kindergarten. The data obtained from observations and interviews served as the primary data for this research. The results indicate that the activity objectives formulated by teachers lack scientific basis and operability, with limited incorporation of gaming elements. The activity themes and content are narrow in scope and primarily determined by teachers and kindergarten administrators. The organization and implementation of activities often neglect the playful experiences of children, and activity evaluation is not given sufficient attention.

Environmental Education as a transversal theme from the perspective of rural school teachers in Wanderlândia, State of Tocantins, Brazil

The present study aimed to analyze the concept of Environment Education (EE) as a transversal theme from the perspective of rural school teachers; understand the relationship between content and contextualization in the student’s daily life, establishing connections with meaningful learning in the vision of David Paul Ausubel and Paulo Freire; describe the spaces used by teachers and applied methodologies related to EE in the context of a rural school in Wanderlândia, state of Tocantins Brazil. We carried an exploratory qualitative research in the form of a case study, with the application of a questionnaire to teachers. The methodology was based on content analysis. The deficiency in physical and pedagogical structures are the main obstacles faced when implementing Environmental Education activities in rural schools.

ІННОВАЦІЙНІ НАПРЯМКИ УПРАВЛІННЯ ЕКОЛОГІЧНИМ ТУРИЗМОМ В УКРАЇНІ В КОНТЕКСТІ СТАЛОГО РОЗВИТКУ

The article examines modern approaches to ecological tourism as a complex management system, which includes environmental educational and educational activities among participants. The main task of this model is to achieve economic goals while simultaneously preserving nature and cultural values for future generations. The article examines how economic, environmental, social and political aspects have contributed to the rapid progress of ecotourism. It was discussed how ecotourism can become a means not only for economic growth, but also for the preservation of the ecosystem and cultural heritage. Much attention is paid to the importance of applying the latest management approaches, infrastructure development and conducting educational programs for communities. The importance of establishing ecological routes with proper information and safe infrastructure is highlighted, as well as the formation of clear rules for tourists. The role of monitoring and control over compliance with environmental norms for the adaptation of tourist activities is revealed. The importance of local population participation in ecotourism projects for economic development and raising environmental awareness is emphasized. Ecotourism is presented as a tool for the protection of nature and culture, while offering ways of social and economic progress. International experience in the field of ecotourism is also mentioned, showing its impact on local communities, regional economies and the environment. Based on this experience, recommendations are offered for adapting global best practices to local conditions to create a sustainable ecotourism environment. The conclusions call for an integrated approach to the development of ecotourism, which requires the joint actions of government, business, local communities and international organizations. The article emphasizes the importance of creating an effective ecotourism management system that provides a balance between the needs of tourists, environmental protection, and economic interests of regions. The need to involve the public and the private sector in the development and implementation of projects in the field of ecotourism is also emphasized.

Floristic and phytosociological study of an urban fragment of secondary Amazonian forest in Capitão Poço – PA

Secondary forests constitute important regenerating areas and they are expanding rapidly in the Amazonian landscape. The characterization of forest remnants provides essential information for conservation, management and recovery actions. The objective of the present study was to conduct a floristic and phytosociological evaluation of an urban fragment of secondary Amazonian forest (8.12 ha) in Capitão Poço, Pará. Trees with DBH ≥ 3.2 cm were inventoried in five 15 m x 30 m plots. The floristic diversity, importance value, and diametric distribution were investigated. In the survey, 236 individuals from 23 species were recorded. The floristic diversity index was 2.58. The most important species were Cecropia obtusa Trécul and Lacistema pubescens Mart. The curve of distribution of individuals in diametric classes followed a negative exponential pattern (inverted J-shape), with most individuals in the smallest diametric classes. These results imply that the forest presents species typical of initial stages of succession. Thus, conservation actions are needed to increase the local diversity. In addition, the studied forest is essential for academic and environmental education activities. We recommend further floristic studies in the area in order to assess the dynamics of the species in the forest community.

The Topic of Snakes in Teacher Training

Perceptions about snakes range from fascination to phobia, making them a relevant topic for discussion in environmental issues of basic education. This topic requires a safe and empathetic approach by teachers. Considering that environmental education is a curriculum guideline to be developed by teachers from different areas of knowledge, we investigated some factors that may influence the attitude of undergraduate students in teaching degrees when addressing this topic in an extracurricular activity.. We evaluated 120 future teachers through an online survey regarding their area of expertise, training stage, values, and emotions or feelings towards professional behavior when encountering a snake during an environmental education activity in a non-formal setting. The results indicate that only “fear” and “scientist” values interfered with the performance of future teachers. We propose that environmental education involving stigmatized animals be emphasized in teaching degrees to expand positive didactic experiences, minimize prejudicesand fears, and facilitate the reconstruction and dissemination of knowledge through the conscious action of future educators.

Environmental educational activities in hospitals for health personnel: An integrative review EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES IN HOSPITALS FOR HEALTH PERSONNEL: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Introduction: Among the fastest growing initiatives relating the health sector with the environment are green hospitals, sustainable hospitals, which seek to mitigate the social, environmental, economic and health impacts caused by the permanent operation of these institutions in the world. Objective: Synthesize the evidence of environmental educational interventions in hospitals for health personnel worldwide. Methodology: An integrative review was carried out on the advances related to environmental educational activities in health institutions aimed at health personnel. For the search, 7 databases were used: Pubmed, Virtual Health Library, Scopus, EMBASE, Plos One, EBSCO and Cochrane, from January 2011 to May 2021. The search terms were selected based on the question of research and the PICO strategy. Results: Of 3,246 documents, 11 were retained for the study, finding the main results of the review in 4 categories: 1) educational interventions in waste management of health services in hospitals; 2) interventions in pharmaceutical waste management; 3) interaction activities with the local community and; 4) educational strategies for the clinical and environmental approach. Conclusions: Environmental educational activities for health personnel in hospitals should be connected with an expansion of professional training in sustainability issues, linking environmental variables with the strategies of health institutions in search of an environmental culture.

Formation of Student Character Through Islamic-Based Environmental Education Activities

Maintaining environmental sustainability is the obligation of every human being. This is stated in the verses of the Koran, so self-awareness is needed to prevent environmental damage. The reality is that not everyone can protect the environment optimally. Therefore, it is necessary to instill good character. It is important to instill character education from an early age, especially in elementary/MI students. MIN 4 Gunungkidul shapes student character through Islamic-based environmental education activities. Given this, this study aims to describe the implementation of Islamic-based environmental education activities to shape the noble character of students in MIN 4 Gunungkidul. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a field research approach. Data collection techniques are interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis is carried out by reducing, collecting, presenting data, and ending with conclusions. The research results show that Islamic-based environmental education at MIN 4 Gunung Kidul has been included in the MIN 4 Gunung Kidul Education unit-level curriculum. Islamic-based environmental education activities that are carried out regularly include familiarizing ablution activities with water-saving management before congregational midday prayers, clean Saturday waste collection activities & class picket healthy Saturday movements, and environmental day commemorations. Through the habit of environmental education activities, it is possible to instill in students an attitude of religious character as well as love and care for the environment.
