Entrepreneurial Skills Required of Small and Medium Scale Construction Firms’ Operation in Abuja, Nigeria

The study examined the entrepreneurial skills required of small and medium-scale construction firms’ operations in Abuja. One research question and hypothesis guided the study. The study adopted a descriptive research design. The population of the study consisted of 976; 401 managers and 572 contractors in registered small and medium-sized building construction firms in Abuja. A sample size of 278; 119 managers and 159 contractors were used for the study. The sample size for this study was determined using Taro Yamane’s sample reduction formula. The data for this study was collected using a structured questionnaire. The face and content validity of the instrument was established using the opinions of three experts from the Department of Building, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach alpha; which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.78. The findings of the study revealed that financial management, industry knowledge, project management, innovation and technology savvy, risk management, quality control, and adaptability are the most essential entrepreneurial skills for small and medium-sized construction firms in Abuja. The study among others recommended that managers of these firms should place emphasis on financial management skills, and networking skills through training programs, workshops, and mentoring opportunities.

Leveraging E-Commerce and Entrepreneurship Pathway among Unemployed Graduates in Rivers State Nigeria.

This paper examined the impact of leveraging on e-commerce as a pathway to entrepreneurship among unemployed graduates in Rivers state Nigeria. The objectives of the study were as follows; to examine the relationship between e-tailing and venture opportunity identification, to ascertain the relationship between e-tailing and new venture lunch, to examine the relationship between e-hailing and venture opportunity identification, ascertain the relationship between e-hailing and new venture lunch. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data from graduates who engage in e-commerce activities. Both primary and secondary sources of data were used. The study population were 700, Taro Yamani was used to determine a sample size of 400 from three LGA (Obio-Akpo, Ikwerre and Port Harcourt) in Rivers state Nigeria. The copies of questionnaires returned were 370, afterwards Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used for the determining validation and the reliability of the instrument at 0.75. Exploratory research design was adopted for the study. SPSS Version 20.0 was used to analyze the retrieved questionnaires. From the analyses, the study found out that leveraging on e-commerce has significantly impacted on entrepreneurship pathway among unemployed graduates in Rivers state Nigeria. The study recommended that unemployed graduates in Rivers state should stop waiting for white collar jobs instead they should consider becoming entrepreneurs by leveraging on e-commerce opportunities such as e-tailing and e-hailing, it is essential for unemployed graduates to acquire the required digital skills to enable them take advantage of these opportunities posed by e-commerce also, both Federal and State government should endeavor to establish youth development training centers that will help train unemployed graduates on ICT and entrepreneurial skills.

Editorial: Governance and its ecosystem — Influencing factors and performance

The new issue contains 22 papers committed to providing relevant analyses from multiple fields of investigation and perspectives. Digital transformation — included in a broader 4.0 development of companies — requires new development and performance perspectives, not only from new generations of entrepreneurs but also from the entire corporate governance system, both private and public. This means that entrepreneurial skills and the elements useful for making decisions to compete in the current economic context are constantly evolving.

The article discusses the issue of organizing continuous foreign language teaching of future engineers in higher education. The aim of the research is to consider the possibility of applying a non-linear approach to the organization of continuous foreign language learning for engineering students in higher education in terms of systemic, organizational, temporal and other aspects of continuous learning in relation to the Foreign Language discipline. The materials for the study were educational standards of higher education for engineering specialties, materials of engineering forums on the problem of engineering education modernization, regulatory and legal documents of the Advanced Engineering Schools project. The focus of attention is on the current requirements to the set of competencies of a future engineer concerning the development of supra-professional (flexible) skills, such as leadership and entrepreneurial skills; the ability to work in a team, present the results of work, interact in a team, etc.; research skills; skills and abilities required to perform tasks within the framework of interaction between universities and their industrial partners. The study formulates and reveals the principles of continuous foreign language teaching process of future engineers in a higher education institution – systemic, organizational, temporal, age-specific, content-specific, level-specific, technological, and socio-psychological. The principle of technological continuity consists in the development of a system of special tasks based on authentic digital corporate resources, a gradual increase in the number of authentic digital corporate resources used in the learning process, and a complication of tasks and types of learning activities developed on their basis. The principle of socio-psychological continuity of the foreign language learning process is important for the organization of the learning process, as it reflects the specificity of foreign language learning for future engineers and contributes to the successful development of supra-professional skills. The key role in the formulation of this principle is played by taking into account individual-psychological features of engineering students, such as aspiration for leadership, rational understanding of the surrounding reality, etc. These students are characterized by a higher level of general tension and a dominant level of non-verbal intelligence development compared to students of the humanities. Thus, the results of the study allow us to conclude that these principles should be taken into account when designing a system of special tasks, developed on the basis of authentic digital corporate resource s and the capabilities of digital technologies, and when developing an e-learning course in foreign language for future engineers at the bachelor’s and master’s levels in higher education.

ENTREPRENEURIAL EDUCATION AMONG HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH

Starting from the premise that the development of entrepreneurial spirit is an educational ideal and entrepreneurial skills are key European competencies, this paper aims to assess the entrepreneurial spirit and intention among high school students, as well as the role of pre-university education institutions in shaping their attitudes and entrepreneurial intentions. To achieve the research objectives, a quantitative research method was employed, and the research instrument used was a questionnaire administered to a sample of 147 high school students. The results reveal that, to foster their entrepreneurial spirit and intention, high school students need appropriate support and guidance from schools, universities, and the community in general. By providing a conductive environment and support in developing entrepreneurial skills, optimal conditions can be created for young people to explore their potential and put their ideas into practice.

Entrepreneurs with Disability: A Comprehensive Study in the Context of Uncertainty

The purpose of this research is to explore how disabled social entrepreneurs deal with uncertainty, the role of technology in entrepreneurial activities, and gendered implications on social entrepreneurship with uncertainty. The data are from understanding different secondary research that already exists on social entrepreneurship and disability, and the use of technology for the disabled. The discourse on social entrepreneurship and uncertainty, a mixed method of narrative and thematic analysis was chosen. The qualitative data have been analysed from peer-reviewed research papers, newspaper articles, journals and quantitative data from the global UN websites, and government. Entrepreneurs with disabilities (EwDs) have links to higher resilience in uncertainties and competencies that attribute to the development of their social enterprise. Technology also acts as a catalyst for EwDs in the face of uncertainty. An overarching limitation that emerged is the lack of data, and literature available on the implication of uncertainty in the context of disabled entrepreneurs. Information on disabled women is also limited. A social implication of this article is the empowerment of EwDs. They are equipped with entrepreneurial skills despite their disabilities. Besides, advocacy of technology can serve as a boon for the disabled community in the face of uncertainty. This research paper has been written using authentic data emerging from secondary research.

Research on the core ability cultivation mechanism of college students returning to their hometowns for innovation and entrepreneurship under the strategy of rural revitalization

Abstract This study explores the innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities of college students who return to their hometowns, particularly within China’s rural revitalization strategy. By constructing a comprehensive framework, this paper examines four key dimensions that influence these abilities, employing logistic regression analysis to assess the impact of various factors. Notably, including policy support as a variable in Model 2 significantly enhances the Model’s explanatory power by 22.4%, a statistically significant finding (p < 0.001). This underscores the critical role of policy support in bolstering students’ innovation and entrepreneurial skills. Further, through applying structural equation modeling, this research delves deeper into the nexus between policy, institutional environments, and the cultivation of core entrepreneurial competencies, offering insights into the external factors that facilitate competence development. The Model’s hypotheses are rigorously tested for fit, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed framework in understanding and supporting the entrepreneurial endeavors of returning college students.

Technical Vocational Education Training and Entrepreneurship Redesigning a Pathway for Female Students in Technological Institutions in Southwest Nigeria

This study focuses on redesigning a pathway for female students in technological institutions in Southwest Nigeria with the aim of promoting gender diversity and entrepreneurship in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. The research identifies the challenges faced by female students in pursuing technological education and entrepreneurship, explores successful models from other regions, and proposes innovative strategies to enhance female participation and success. The objectives include designing interventions, assessing impact, creating a roadmap for implementation, and advocating for policy changes. By addressing gender disparities and creating a supportive environment, this project seeks to empower female students to excel in technology-related disciplines and contribute to the advancement of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in southwest Nigeria. This cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2023 to February 2024 among students from various technological higher institutions, using a convenience sampling technique. The calculated total sample size was 312. A pretested self-administered questionnaire was used for the data collection. Analysis was done using percentage, binary logistic regression and multinomial logistic regression. 67.2% of the respondent experienced challenges in inclusion and supportive environment for Technological related program and not willing to continue with their career. Also 33 % of the respondent inclined to ascent to such career. Among them 32%, 31% and 37% were science, management and engineering students, respectively. There was a statistically significant association between entrepreneurship skills and building career on Technological education program

Research on Entrepreneurial Competency Cultivation of College Students Toward Common Wealth

Abstract In modern society, innovation and entrepreneurship education have gradually transcended the traditional paradigm, intertwined with the concept of commonwealth, and constructed a new picture of vitality and social sentiment. In terms of research ideas, this paper extracts value-shaping elements, service learning elements, social creation faculty elements, social creation curriculum elements, organizational leadership elements, interest group elements, and social creation practical elements as the elements of entrepreneurial competence cultivation of college students according to their growth pattern, the entrepreneurial environment they have, and entrepreneurial resources they possess. We obtained the four crucial factors for individual, group, school, and social levels through micro-level analysis. We constructed the model for cultivating entrepreneurial competence in college students with the support of seven elements and four hierarchical factors. In the end, the cultivation model was analyzed using the PLS-SEM model. It has been verified that 11 out of the 13 hypotheses proposed in this paper were supported through testing. 11 cultivation paths that passed the significance test were found after further analysis. The most significant path is the SF->IE->PO path under the policy anchoring force, with effect sizes and t-statistics of 0.325 and 7.494, respectively. In this way, we have refined the methodology of cultivating co-enrichment and entrepreneurship skills among university students.

Entrepreneurship Training and Factors That Affect The Interest in Entrepreneurship

This study aims to determine the results of entrepreneurship training and the factors that influence the interest in entrepreneurship. Training activities were carried out at PKBM Bandung City with material on entrepreneurial theory and practice. with a research approach using a quantitative approach. Training results data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results of the research show that the results of the training can improve entrepreneurial knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The success rate of entrepreneurial practice is 62.5% and the regression purchase is obtained Y = 3.694 – 0.297 X1 + 0.005 X2 -0.076 X3 which indicates that technology and capital variables do not affect interest in entrepreneurship, while educational variables affect interest in entrepreneurship. Simultaneously the third factor namely technology, education and capital together does not affect the interest in entrepreneurship.

A design thinking approach to develop entrepreneurial skills in the field of Mechatronics Engineering

Abstract— This paper discusses the utilization of design thinking process in the entrepreneurship classes, which involves problemsolving approach, creative thinking and procedural steps to solve the problems. The entrepreneurship training classes facilitate the students to address the real-world problem through the real-world skill development activities. Entrepreneurship education leads the students to develop projects with the outcome as societal beneficial product or service. The students’ expertise after attending the class will be incredibly useful for resolving the problems which need an immediate focus like Covid-19 and post pandemic situation. The case study discussed in this paper describes the growth of an engineering student into a technopreneur, who uses design thinking to solve the societal problems. This case study comprises the framework as follows: The first framework is based on Outcome Based Education (OBE) and Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for Batch 1 and 2, and the second framework with Batch 3 on Conceive Design Implement (CDIO) and Operate framework. According to the findings, students of Batch 3 outperformed than the students of Batch 1 and 2 in applying higher order thinking abilities to turn a prototype into a working business model. As a result, the CDIO framework is ideally suited to the development of engineering abilities into the entrepreneurial opportunities. A Study on Women Empowerment through Entrepreneurship Development Program in Gujarat

Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDPs) play a crucial role in empowering women by providing them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to succeed in entrepreneurship. EDPs offer training and capacity-building initiatives tailored to the needs of women entrepreneurs, equipping them with essential entrepreneurial skills such as business planning, financial management, marketing strategies, and networking. By acquiring these skills, women gain confidence and competence to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship and seize opportunities for growth and success. This study explores the perception of women towards Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDPs) and investigates the relationship between their demographic profiles and perceptions of EDPs. A sample of 150 women entrepreneurs from Gujarat was interviewed to gather insights into their experiences, challenges, and opportunities in entrepreneurship. The research objectives include analysing women’s perceptions of EDPs and examining the relationship between demographic profiles (such as age, gender, and years of experience) and their perceptions towards EDPs. The findings reveal a positive perception among women towards EDPs, with participants acknowledging the programs’ effectiveness in providing valuable knowledge and skills relevant to entrepreneurship, addressing specific needs and challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, and enhancing confidence and self-efficacy. Furthermore, the study highlights the universal benefits of EDPs across diverse demographic profiles, underscoring their significance in empowering women to succeed in entrepreneurship and contribute to economic growth and social development.

ABSTRACT This article evaluates whether the use of gamification in entrepreneurship education is associated with a reduction in risk aversion among students studying at the technical level of Business Administration. As a theoretical framework, we used the Cumulative Prospect Theory. The research was conducted at a Brazilian Federal Institute (IF) of education. We used a sample of 191 participants, and the research instrument was applied at the beginning and end of the course. The data analysis included the Difference-in-Difference, Propensity Score Matching, and Quantile Regression methods. The results indicate that, after the implementation of the gamified pedagogical practice, there was an increase in the participants’ propensity to assume risks related to financial allocation decisions and occupational choices. This corroborates the role of gamification in the development of entrepreneurial skills by revealing that its use aids in preparing students to deal with uncertainties and calculated risks.

The findings of the study revealed that that barriers to the adoption of entrepreneurial skills in small and medium sized construction firms in Abuja include limited access to training programs, regulatory barriers, financial constraints, and lack of access to mentorship among others. The study among others recommended Barriers to skill development should be addressed by managers of building construction firms by providing access to training and mentorship pogrammes for staff.

Pioneering Progressive Strategies: Leveraging E-commerce Platforms for the Growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME)

The Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector in India is a significant contributor for the socio-economic expansion within the nation. This sector has attained considerable prominence due to its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the nation and as well as exports. Furthermore, it has contributed enormously by generating tremendous employment opportunities and building entrepreneurship skills, particularly in semi-urban and rural regions within the nation. This research paper highlights the classification of the MSME sector in terms of investment and annual turnover of firms and the sector's evolution and proliferation in India. The major chunk of this research concentrates on a case study of leveraging e-commerce platforms for the growth of the MSME sector in India, conducted by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) in 2023. The study provides the details of the demographics of the survey respondents, various features of MSMEs integrated with e-commerce platforms like the age and educational qualifications of the proprietors and the firms’ investments and sources of financing. It also discusses the average turnover of such firms and the export capacity of MSMEs employing e-commerce platforms, their ability to utilize digital platforms, the obstacles this sector faces, the subsequent policy amendments needed and a critical analysis of the survey.

The Mchumi Diagram Presentation in Higher Learning Institutions in Tanzania: Feedback and Insights

The Mchumi Diagram was presented at six higher-learning institutions in Tanzania in 2019, including Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), the Open University of Tanzania (OUT), St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), Tumaini University Dar es Salaam College (TUDARCO), College of Business Education (CBE), and the Institute of Social Work (ISW). The presentations featured public lectures attended by university communities consisting of students, academic staff, and non-academic staff. Following the lectures, feedback sessions were held, during which randomly selected respondents completed evaluation questionnaires. The results indicated that 86.6% of respondents found the Mchumi Diagram to be a valuable tool for entrepreneurship training, particularly in inspiring and instilling entrepreneurial characteristics in the younger generation. Similarly, in 2016, the Mchumi Diagram was presented to primary and secondary schools in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, with 96.3% of respondents recognizing its usefulness. Based on these results, the Mchumi Diagram is recommended for training programs designed to impart entrepreneurship skills, particularly in light of the "Double S" factor as characterized by the diagram.
