Shipbuilding—An Analysis from the Perspective of Enterprise Resources Planning System

Designed as a tool for business intelligence, resource planning is used to manage the essentials of a business by integrating processes into a single system. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions ensure all the organizational, operational, and procedural structures interconnection, which can be both an advantage and a disadvantage, knowing that inefficiency within one structure will lead to inefficiency in others. The originality of the approach consists in the unitary analysis of all processes which shipbuilding involves (design; evaluation of ship construction possibilities; contracting of works; contracting of supply of materials and equipment; presentation of inspections for the completed works reception; delivery of the ship into operation). The systemic approach is a notable contribution by highlighting the input and output quantities for the analyzed processes. Also, where it was found relevant, the diagrams highlight the owners of the process and show the interconnectivity of the functional departments within a shipyard. Although it is obviously the expression of in-depth knowledge of the peculiarities of Romanian shipyards, the authors hope that the work can support any shipyard that may be interested in knowing these structures (as a logical scheme mandatory to design a custom ERP software system).

Optimizing the Potential of the Beads Center of Sumberlesung Village, Jember to become an "Export Village Center" as Integrated Digital ERP System (Si Lesung)

Sumberlesung Village is a village that is administratively located in Ledokombo District, Jember Regency. One of the most famous potentials of Sumberlesung Village and continues to be developed is the handicraft industry in the form of beads, which are exported abroad. But in reality, even though it has been exported to various countries, it turns out that the existence of this beading craft is still not well known by the local community and needs to be expanded further abroad. So that there is a need for improvement and development in terms of segmentation and marketing locally and abroad, this happens because the bead artisans in Sumberlesung Village have not yet marketed their products digitally so an innovation is needed that can integrate their products with technology. Departing from the above problems, the author plans an idea in the form of village empowerment by establishing a community in Sumberlesung Village equipped with software, namely ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) which is integrated with the website. The research method used is qualitative research with a A.D.D.I.E. The expected target of this research is that the bead craftsmen are members of a community who can market digitally in export and import activities as well as the craftsmen who understand the concept of technology and ERP software systems.

An exploratory case study on cloud ERP implementation

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software systems can supply enterprise benefits such as real-time facts and figures availability, advanced visibility, and expanded task automation. Hence this study to establish the four crucial technical factors, from software engineering perspective, determining the performance of cloud ERP software found from the literature. The primary purpose of this paper is to validate these factors in an organisation with successful cloud ERP software system. An exploratory case study was conducted to study these research issues. The case study consisted of a survey and interview at one large organisation with cloud ERP software system. The statistical analysis done on the collected data gives a great deal of support to all the four formulated hypotheses in this study. This gives a conclusion that the crucial technical factors for cloud ERP software implementation are one and the same in literature and the companies with successful cloud ERP software implementation.

Usability of Enterprise Resource Planning software systems: an evaluative analysis of the use of SAP in the textile industry in Bangladesh

Information technology (IT) is increasingly playing a crucial role in managing business processes across all industries and organizations but business managers and analysts seem to underestimate the impact of usability of IT solutions on processes and people. This paper focuses on the usability of one of the most popular business process management software systems, SAP, which comes as an integrated solution that incorporates the key business functions and processes of an organization. The paper critically analyzes related issues and implications using the System Usability Scale (SUS) and semi-structured interviews. Several considerations and suggestions are drawn in terms of rethinking and pursuing usability in training when applied to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and other systems supporting business process management.

The Effects of Technological Innovation on the Banking Sector

Significant changes have affected the banking sector worldwide due to the major impact of developments and trends in information and communication technology, business intelligence, and risk management strategies. The basic issue to be addressed no longer concerns changes in the banking sector but the ways to better operate in the new business setting in order to redefine relationships with customers, seize the opportunities provided by the innovation processes, and yield adequate returns. A bank willing to progress has to continuously adapt to the evolving economic, financial, and productive context. This work argues about the influence of the advancement and complexity of emerging technologies on the structural and behavioral elements meant as financial criticalities and requirements restricting the strategic development options of banks. Verification of the research hypotheses was made through an empirical analysis of quantitative and qualitative data regarding the period 2008–2011 gathered from a sample of 3190 banks located in 17 countries. The empirical research shows (1) the existence of a negative relationship between financial leverage and the two technological innovations regarding enterprise resource planning software systems and software for management of credit risk were observed; (2) the enterprise resource planning innovation and the software for the management of credit risk seem to influence competences, abilities, and organization of the banking system; (3) the innovations that concern the enterprise resource planning software systems and the software for the management of credit risk increase the earning margin of banks.

Diffusion of Innovation Theory and Animplementation on Enterprise Resource Planning Systems

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are adopted by many companies. By means of setting up thismanagement information system software, significant organizational activities are accomplished while manyothers remain unachieved. This article grounds on utilization of variables of Diffusion of Innovation (DOI)Theory (Rogers, 2003) in accomplished adoptions of ERP systems. DOI Theory can be carried out in terms ofguiding ERP application. Attained evidences reveal that variables in theory affect ERP success positively aswell as organizational performance. Considering variables of DOI Theory will accelerate the adoption ofinnovation. The major contribution to the science literature of this article is defining the essential buildingblocks of application of ERP software system to the organization.

A new algorithm in assembly for component-based software using dependency chart

Component-Based Software Development (CBSD) promises to reduce development cost and time by enabling rapid development of highly flexible and easily maintainable software modules. CBSD is based on the idea that software systems can be developed by selecting and integrating appropriate components which have already been developed and then assembling them to obtain the functionality desired in target application. Improper assembly of software components will lead to more number of defects, increase in complexity, development time, less reliability, etc. So, correct assembly of software components is an important issue. The aim of this paper is to develop a systematic procedure to assemble software components to build high quality software. The proposed algorithm is based on dependency chart in which the interaction between the components is considered as the major criteria. The proposed algorithm is applied in a component-based Enterprise Resource Planning software system to discuss the implications of the proposed algorithm.
