Manage and control information flow in virtual manufacturing enterprises

Requirements set by clients regarding, on the one hand, the highest quality of services provided, on the other hand, shorter and shorter order completion dates, cause that enterprises are often unable to cope with them. A production load or limited production resources also means that enterprises are no longer able to accept a new order for their production plan. The following problem is outlined here - send the customer away empty-handed, or try to execute the order, but with a much later execution date and expose to the cost of contractual penalties. Therefore, solutions are sought, which can be particularly advantageous for producers in the small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) sector, for whom this is an increasingly frequent problem - sometimes means “to be or not to be” on the market. One of the possibilities for enterprises is to use the concept of a virtual manufacturing enterprises, which mainly consists in sharing the free production capacity of each producer within the virtual network A network that has been established even between individual enterprises that are geographically dispersed. By establishing a group of several companies cooperating at the same time, one should find such a thread of agreement that it would be possible to cooperate, and also to achieve a common goal, which is to make a final product for the recipient. If it is necessary to make a final product that meets the assumed criteria, it is necessary not only to define the level of cooperation, but also there exists much need for a mechanism to manage and control information flow among manufacturers. Therefore, it is necessary to have information on production issues, such as the quantity and quality of spare production capacities, their access time, additional resources, semi-finished products, and since these are geographically dispersed enterprises, the location of each enterprise is also important. In addition, the network itself is established on the basis of information contained in the production order, so you can adjust the number of participants to your needs, and assign tasks accordingly. All executive actions are taken on the basis of the proposed algorithm, which describes the entire decision-making process, how to collect information, where to keep them, and above all, who should be responsible for providing information.

Implementaon of digital economy elements in electric power industry

Energy generation, along with other sectors of Russia’s economy, is on the cusp of the era of digital transformation. Modern IT solutions ensure the transition of industrial enterprises from automation and computerization, which used to be the targets of the second half of the last century, to digital enterprise concept 4.0. The international record of technological and structural solutions in digitization may be used in Russia’s energy sector to the full extent. Specifics of implementation of such systems in different countries are only determined by the level of economic development of each particular state and the attitude of public authorities as related to the necessity of creating conditions for implementation of the same. It is shown that a strong legislative framework is created in Russia for transition to the digital economy, with research and applied developments available that are up to the international level. The following digital economy elements may be used today at enterprises for production of electrical and thermal energy: — dealing with large amounts of data (including operations exercised via cloud services and distributed data bases); — development of small scale distributed generation and its dispatching; — implementation of smart elements in both electric power and heat supply networks; — development of production process automation systems, remote monitoring and predictive analytics; 3D-modeling of parts and elements; real time mathematic simulation with feedback in the form of control actions; — creating centres for analytical processing of statistic data and accounting in financial and economic activities with business analytics functions, with expansion of communication networks and computing capacities. Examples are presented for implementation of smart systems in energy production and distribution. It is stated in the paper that state-of art information technologies are currently being implemented in Russia, new unique digital transformation projects are being launched in major energy companies. Yet, what is required is large-scale and thorough digitization and controllable energy production system as a multi-factor business process will provide the optimum combination of efficient economic activities, reliability and safety of power supply.

Social enterprises in Palestine: a critical analysis

PurposeThis paper aims to critically examine the concept of social enterprises in Palestine. It uses the lens of institutional theory to understand how the political and economic context of the society can influence certain types of entrepreneurial behaviors and be responsible for the emergence of social enterprises. The paper uses a critical perspective to deconstruct social enterprises in Palestine to shed light on reasons for their emergence, motives and agendas.Design/methodology/approachA case study design was used to examine the phenomenon of social enterprises. The case study method is valuable in describing the how and why issues of a phenomenon in the present time frame. Two leading social enterprises operating within the Palestinian region were identified. The two enterprises were contacted for a series of interviews (over a period of few months) with their owners and other active members.FindingsThe empirical findings suggest that social enterprise model is still in its embryonic stages in Palestine. Their social mission of community development and sustainability is not completely sincere. The social entrepreneurs were willing to compromise social mission for economic surplus. The national structure, political framework, legal environment, social, cultural and the economic conditions of Palestine have served as suitable launching pads for social enterprises with not so authentic mission of serving the society. It has encouraged entrepreneurial philosophy and behavior, which has masked hidden economic and political agendas with exterior goals of social welfare and community development.Research limitations/implicationsThis paper adopts a critical perspective and a qualitative methodology, and this raises the concern if the arguments pertaining to social enterprise raised in this paper can sustain in a developed nation with a stabilized political scenario or whether this alternative ideology is only relevant to underdeveloped countries with unstable, political conditions, such as Palestine.Practical implicationsThis paper provides relevant information for students, critical academics and policymakers.Social implicationsThe paper argues for a more concise definition for the model of social enterprises. It argues for clear legal guidelines which could monitor the formation of social enterprises in Palestine.Originality/valueThis paper provides an alternative perspective on social enterprises within a constrained and political unstable economy of Palestine.

A Conceptual Enterprise Framework for Managing Scientific Data Stewardship.

Scientific data stewardship is an important part of long-term preservation and the use/reuse of digital research data. It is critical for ensuring trustworthiness of data, products, and services, which is important for decision-making. Recent U.S. federal government directives and scientific organization guidelines have levied specific requirements, increasing the need for a more formal approach to ensuring that stewardship activities support compliance verification and reporting. However, many science data centers lack an integrated, systematic, and holistic framework to support such efforts. The current business- and process-oriented stewardship frameworks are too costly and lengthy for most data centers to implement. They often do not explicitly address the federal stewardship requirements and/or the uniqueness of geospatial data. This work proposes a data-centric conceptual enterprise framework for managing stewardship activities, based on the philosophy behind the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle, a proven industrial concept. This framework, which includes the application of maturity assessment models, allows for quantitative evaluation of how organizations manage their stewardship activities and supports informed decision-making for continual improvement towards full compliance with federal, agency, and user requirements.

A Management Guru from the East

Management as a science is the prerogative of North America. Authors, concepts, publishers, journals, institutions, individuals and events are either bona fide North American or tinted with a strong North American tint. The few brave non North American souls who have ventured into this domain whether from Britain, Germany or Japan, were quickly re-minted in order to look and behave North American. They were ushered into the sacred arena of North American management and admitted to the exclusive cult. Creative management thinking, novel management concept formulation and imaginative management implementation that were taking place elsewhere, were either ignored or relegated to the dark corners of the domain. The following article is an attempt at exploring work done by a non-North American management innovator who developed, in the course of a dynamic political career, novel conceptual and operational management frameworks: Dr Mahathir Mohamed, the former , and current, prime minister of Malaysia. Analysis follows Dr Mahathir‟s record and addresses four specific conceptual innovations: the concept of “country-wide vision”, the Mahathir crisis management doctrine, the concept of indigenous enterprise and last but not least, managing oneself The article relies largely on a myriad of records and work done on Prime Minister Mahathir‟s initiatives and decisions. Those are placed within the broad spectrum of management as a science and profession.

Industrial architecture as a system

It is known that industrial architecture is the important part of modern world. It brings profits and goods to our globalized soсiety. But industrial facilities is the most susceptible to obsolescence because of dynamics of technical progress development and different economic changes in societies.Industrial architecture, as an independent type of an artificial anthropogenic environment, is about 300 years old. Over the entire period of its existence, it has changed many times, depending on the development of technological progress. The evolution of the ideology of industrial buildings on the territory of Ukraine was uneven with certain jerks. This was facilitated by certain socio-political and military historical events, so Ukraine achieved active industrial development in the -1950-70s. During this period appeared the scientific specialization 18.00.03 "Architecture of Buildings and Structures" which was combined with the specialty 18.00.02 "Architecture of buildings and structures" at the end of this period. From 1961 to 1991 the leading research and design center for industrial buildings was the Scientific Research Institute "TsNIIPromzdaniy", which is located in Moscow. This organization set the direction of development of enterprises to the whole Union (and for Ukraine, which was part of the Union). In the late 1980s, this organization carried out the development of new concepts of industrial enterprises under the state order. During this period a number of concepts of mobile and adaptive industrial enterprises were developed. Adaptive enterprises were introduced in the 90s of the 20th century. But this evolutionary change in the policy of development of industrial enterprises was outstripped by the collapse of the territorial organization of the Union.

Constructing the Model of Aboriginal Tribal Social Enterprises from the Concept of Social Economic Enterprises

Taiwan's aboriginal tribes have long been affected by political forces and market economy model, and the aboriginal people living in remote mountainous areas with lack of information have met with a lot of economic and social problems and challenges such as loss of land and traditional culture, aging population and stagnation of tribal industry development. Therefore, the original self-sufficient tribes began to prone to “poverty”, and this is one of the most critical social issues for Taiwan to cope with. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the concept of "social economy" in the aboriginal tribes, to develop and restore the sharing economic cooperation model, to increase collective interests and to set up tribal social enterprises, so as to address the crucial social issues.This study will adopt the method and experience of socio-economic analysis to study the action plan of Seediq, a division of Taiwanese aboriginals, and their experience of social and economic organization and operation, and reflection on the social enterprise system. The main research is to explore the social economy in the Meixi tribe, the status quo and future development, and how to employ social innovation to promote the tribal social enterprise planning and business model.

Social Enterprise and Social Entrepreneurship: Conceptual Clarity and Implication in Nepalese Context

Purpose- The purpose of the paper is to communicate the concepts, focus and framework of social enterprise prevailing in international arena and recommend some of the research issue that can be contextualized in Nepalese setting for reaping growing importance of the issue.Design/Methodology/Approach- This paper is an analytic review, building on previous work.Findings- The varying definitions of social enterprise is found not an abnormal phenomenon as it differs according to author’s perception and context in which research is conducted. However, the generic ingredient of the concept of social enterprise is to create a positive and sustainable social impact which I believe is more powerful than promotional campaign and neuromanagement.Research limitation/Implication - The research paper helps to disseminate the diverse viewpoints on social entrepreneurship/ enterprise and provokes the need for open discourse on the topic among Nepalese academicians and business community.Originality/Value- The research paper has suggested some of the research issues and models in which future research on Nepalese perspective could be conducted.NCC JournalVol. 3, No. 1, 2018, page: 143-152

Still an ethnic enterprise after a generational change? Indian-owned SMEs in Malaysia

This study grapples with two key puzzles: first, what happens when companies established as ethnic-based enterprises, including by migrants, are passed on to the next generation? Second, do these migrant businesses remain as ethnic enterprises after generational transitions? The empirical focus of this study is Malaysia, a country with one of the largest ethnic Indian populations outside India. To provide insights into these questions, this article pays particular attention to how an ethnic enterprise functions, in terms of types of goods and services produced and its targeted market, after the emergence of a new generation of owners with more class resources. The evidence from this study will provide insights into the validity of the concept of ethnic enterprise following a generational transition.

Green Human Resource Management as a Tool for the Sustainable Development of Enterprises: Polish Young Company Experience

The growing role of sustainable development and, above all, its ecological aspect, in the development of modern company competitive edge leads to the popularization of the question of incorporating environmental practices into the area of human resource policy, referred to as Green HRM. The objective of the research was to identify pro-environmental HR practices embraced by young Polish enterprises and to prioritize them in accordance with their effect on company sustainable development. To attain these goals, a survey was conducted among a random, representative population of 150 young enterprises. The study revealed that the Green HRM concept in the Polish reality is relatively. However, there is a strong positive correlation between the evaluation of the impact of individual activities within Green HRM on sustainable company development and their practical implementation. Research demonstrated that the higher the evaluation of the impact of a given activity, the more frequent its implementation in the studied companies. This allowed the formulation of the following conclusion: in order to increase the scope of the implementation of the Green HRM concept in Polish young enterprises, it is necessary to raise awareness and disseminate knowledge concerning the impact Green HRM can have on sustainable development in organizations.

Sustainable Enterprise and Sustainable Organisation: Mapping the Research Field with Keywords Analysis

Purpose: The aim of the paper is to identify the key research top-ics and to contribute to mapping the research on the concepts of a sustainable enterprise and a sustainable organisation. Design/methodology/approach: Keywords analysis, considered as an element of research profiling methodology, is used to achieve the aim of the study. The research sample comprises bibliometric data retrieved from the Scopus database. Findings: The publications included in both research samples (i.e. these studying of sustainable enterprises and those related to sus-tainable organisations) focus their primary attention on the issues related to sustainability and CSR. Nevertheless, some interesting differences have been observed. Sustainable enterprise studies are found to be more oriented to strategic management perspective as well as natural environment and ecology. On the other hand sustainable organisation research shows more tendency to deal with the issues of organisational learning and innovation as well as relationships with external stakeholders. Research and practical limitations/implications: The study is an element of the wider research project aimed at mapping the research on the concepts of a sustainable enterprise and a sus-tainable organisation. As such it triangulates with other papers identifying key research topics within the field through different methods e.g. systematic literature review, research profiling and citation analysis. Originality/value: The originality of the study results from the novelty of research methodology (i.e. keywords analysis) applied to map the research on the concepts of a sustainable enterprise and a sustainable organisation. An IT Governance Framework for Virtual Enterprise in Tourism Industry: Evidence from Small Tourism Enterprises in Thailand

Information technology (IT) plays a significant role on a highly information-intensive industry like tourism industry globally and dramatically. Virtual enterprise (VE) concept is an innovation that enables small tourism enterprises (STEs) in developing countries to offer effective tourism services without large investment in IT. As STEs operate their VEs based on cloud-sourcing environment, STEs have to deal with IT risks that may affect the entire organization. As almost all STEs are found lacking in IT management experience, it is not effective to apply traditional IT governance frameworks, such as Control objectives for information and related technologies (COBIT), IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), and International organization for standardization (ISO). This study proposes an IT governance framework for STEs operating in VE concept with cloud-sourcing environment. The methodology began with multiple-case study research via semi-structure interviews. Subjects are IT leaders from 10 STEs. IT governance framework for STEs was derived from the interview results, the framework consists of five IT governance areas: Strategy, Administration, Technology and Infrastructure, Supply, and Human Resource. This study also proposed performance assessment criteria for assessing IT governance performance. The proposed assessment criteria were integrated from relevance criteria in COBIT, ISO38500, ITIL, and previous research. STEs can adopt the proposed framework in their VEs to ensure the achievement of effectiveness and efficiency of their services in virtual environment. This will eventually guarantee their continued success in tourism services at present and in the future.

THE SYSTEM OF PROCESSES AND PROJECTS OF THE AIRCRAFT AIRWORTHINESS MAINTENANCE

The concept of the aviation enterprise as a unified system of processes and projects of the aircraft airworthiness maintenance (AAM) is presented. The relevance of project management tools usage, including the transport branch, is noted; the examples of successful implementation of the development projects at domestic enterprises manufacturing aircraft engines are given. A scheme for the classification of the AAM projects and processes, reflecting their interrelationship, is proposed. The operational activity of the enterprise is a combination of its business processes. The company selects plans and implements the relevant projects for the business processes optimization. At the same time, the projects themselves are the objects of management based on standardized processes. The processes of project management and the main processes of the enterprise are also interrelated and can be objects included in the unified regulations of its units. Increasing the efficiency of operational processes and processes of the aviation enterprise management is the goal of development projects, which are divided into investment projects and organizational changes projects. Limitation of organizational and financial resources of the company requires the identification and systematization of all projects and processes, while the application of project management standards allows to analyze the opportunities and to determine the sequence of their implementation. The importance of accumulating experience of completed projects is shown; the results can become typical methods for planning, organizing the implementation and monitoring of AAM projects. Specific forms of the project management standards implementation for AN-124-100 constructive modification project in LLC Volga-Dnepr Airlines are demonstrated: the control events plan and the project team formation.

TOO BIG TO IGNORE � HOW TO DEFINE THE ENTERPRISE VALUE OF AI AND BIG DATA FIRMS

ABSTRACT Artificial Intelligence and Big Data companies (AI&BD) are already now key drivers for disruption in many industries and will change the way business works from its core. These companies possess very different financial metrics due to a high amount of intangible assets in form of data and algorithms and exponential economic growth potential. A conceptual enterprise valuation methodology for these firms is thus introduced based on three major adjustments for a modified DCF model: First, the growth phases are estimated as typical for young growth and data driven companies. Second, expenses for software R&D are treated as CapEx instead of OpEx to account for software/IP as intangible assets. Third, a base multiple derived from comparable peer firm transactions is modified with regard to the firm's specific AI&BD-specific value drivers. Specifically Data, Algorithm and Team as the major value drivers for AI&BD firms are considered. These adjustments result in changes in the enterprise value and are targeting an objective valuation result for AI&BD firms and shall thus provide a concept for more adequate valuations in the steadily growing AI&BD sector. Social Enterprise Concept in Sustaining Fruit-Based- Processing Agro-Industry Development in Indonesia (Study Case: Fruits Up Social Business)

This research discovers that the model of empowerment of Fruits Up SMEs highlights the empowerment of fruit farmers in Ciayumajakuning village as well as the housewives in Bandung. Done from February to June 2016, it obtains a unique business model description with the social business platform. In the mapped out business model, it is found a host of advantages such as(1) community interdependency, (2) technology mastery, (3) capital rise, (4) significant increase of investment, (5) strengthened collaboration, and (6) the improvement of social impact capable of being replicated in other enterprises. The method used in this research is that of analytical- descriptive with the design thinking approach as well as of qualitative and quantitative with the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) method. Based on the results, the development of the enterprise’s process is highly affected by (1) community with the point of 0.216 out of 1, being the most valuable variable for the existence of the enterprise. It is followed by (2) university (0.178), (3) supplying farmers (0.153), (4) business actors (0.128), (5) government (0.100), (6) distributor (0.092),(7) technopreneurship laboratory (0.069), (8) banking (0.033), (9) NGO (0,031). Differentiating the effect of social enterprise activities on health

An emerging stream of literature has focused on the ways in which social enterprises might act on the social determinants of health. However, this previous work has not taken a sufficiently broad account of the wide range of stakeholders involved in social enterprises and has also tended to reduce and simplify a complex and heterogeneous set of organisations to a relatively homogenous social enterprise concept. In an attempt to address these gaps, we conducted an empirical investigation between August 2014 and October 2015 consisting of qualitative case studies involving in-depth semi-structured interviews and a focus group with a wide variety of stakeholders from three social enterprises in different regions of Scotland. We found that different forms of social enterprise impact on different dimensions of health in different ways, including through: engendering a feeling of ownership and control; improving environmental conditions (both physical and social); and providing or facilitating meaningful employment. In conclusion, we highlight areas for future research.

Diversity of Social Enterprise Models in South Korea

In this paper, we analyse the emergence and development of social enterprise in South Korea. Our purpose is to show how different broad, consensual and successive conceptions of social enterprise—the so-called meta-models—have generated a dynamic and complex environment which includes a variety of models of social enterprise. Based on multiple data sources, including interviews, documents, statistics and field research, we illustrate the diversity of Korean social enterprise models by using the EMES ideal-type as a conceptual framework that leads us to analyse the social, economic and governance dimensions of each type of social enterprise. This research suggests that the social enterprise phenomenon should not be limited to its expressed contents or to an excessively strict legal or economic definition. It eventually contributes to advancing our understanding on social enterprise by showing that the definitions and concepts of social enterprise can be diverse across different social, economic and political contexts. For this reason, building a universal typology that can embrace social enterprises in different national contexts is by far a challenging task.

Perspektywa CSR a cel działania przedsiębiorstwa – studium na przykładzie wybranych spółek

This paper addresses the problem of implementing CSR concept in enterprises, with regard to the way the corporate objective is defined . The purpose of this paper is to investigate the way the corporate objective is defined in the largest public companies listed in the WIG30 index. T he method of content analysis is applied to analyze the reports , documents and information posted on the corporate websites. The analysis shows that companies define objectives in a very different way, referring to the category of value ( understood in different ways), the financial categories and ratios or the expectations of the different stakeholder s . T he majority of the analyzed companies explicitly emphasize the issues of social responsibility and sustainable development. However, these objectives a re not always articulated in a direct way, which may be inadequate from the point of view of stakeholder s’ information needs.

Keywords Co-occurrence Analysis of Research on Sustainable Enterprise and Sustainable Organisation

Purpose: The aim of the paper is to identify and explore leading thematic areas within the research field related to a sustainable enterprise/organisation. The following research questions are asked to achieve the aim of the study: (1) What are the leading areas/topics of scientific inquiry in the research field? (2) What is the research status in the leading research areas/topics? (3) What are the most up-to-date (emerging) topics in the field? Design/methodology/approach: Analysis of keywords co-occurrence is the bibliometric method used to map the research field. The methodology of systematic literature review is applied in order to conduct the analysis of research status in the identified leading thematic areas within the research field. Findings: The study identifies and discusses seven streams of research associated with the concept of a sustainable enterprise i.e. (1) sustainable development and sustainable enterprise idea, (2) sustainability, (3) strategic management and functional areas management, (4) human and organisational context, (5) sustainable manufacturing, (6) industrial context and (7) environmental management. Moreover, emerging, ‘hot’ topics attracting a growing attention of the research community in recent years are enumerated, which include such issues as: (1) the concept of the sustainable, smart and sensing enterprise, (2) sustainable enterprise resource planning and allocation, (3) building competitive advantage in a sustainable enterprise, (4) managing sales in a sustainable enterprise, (5) managing sustainable supply chains, and (6) developing sustainable enterprise excellence. Research and practical limitations/implications: Mapping of the research field and identifying emerging topics provides guidelines for further studies, which can be considered as valuable contribution to the theory and research development. However, due to the theoretical character of the study its practical implications are rather limited. Originality/value: As a bibliometric study, the paper generates the added value mainly from the point of view of the theory development. Its originality derives from a very limited number of studies which use the methodology of keywords analysis to map the research field and identify leading topics within it. Paper type: review paper.
