The Development of an Anatomy Atlas About Selected Hydrophyte and Xerophyte Structural Strategies for a Senior High School

This study aimed to develop an anatomy atlas about selected hydrophyte and xerophyte structural strategies as an enrichment learning medium. The Analysis, Design, Development model was used. The participants included a material expert, a media expert, biology teachers, and students of SMA Negeri 1 Wonosari at Grade XI. Data were collected using material and media expert validation sheets and questionnaires conducted with teachers and students which had been modified from other research instruments. The results were analyzed qualitatively. The anatomy atlas that was developed received favorable results, with an average value of 88.53% validity rate. Based on these results, the developed anatomy atlas would be useful for enrichment programs.

Manajemen Pembelajaran dalam Meningkatkan Prestasi Belajar Siswa di MIN 1 Purbalingga

The research aims to reveal about the planning, implementation, and evaluation of learning in improving student achievement. This study uses a qualitative method. This research was conducted at MIN 1 Purbalingga, from March to June 2021. The informants in the study were madrasa heads, teachers, and students. Data collection techniques with interviews, observation and documentation. The validity of the data using triangulation. Data analysis uses the Miles & Huberman model, which consists of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that: (1) the teachers carry out lesson planning by making a syllabus, annual program, semester program, KKM, time allocation, learning implementation plans, remedial and enrichment programs. (2) The implementation of learning is carried out by the teachers, including preliminary activities (apperception), core activities (including exploration, elaboration and confirmation) and final activities. Teachers use learning media and apply variations of learning methods. (3) Evaluation of learning is carried out by the teacher and by the head of the madrasah. The teacher carries out an assessment system in the form of learning processes and learning outcomes which involve three domains, namely: cognitive, psychomotor, and affective. The madrasa head supervises regularly to help improve teacher performance.

Advancing Age Inclusivity in a Pandemic: Age-Friendly University (AFU) Campuses Take Action

The COVID-19 pandemic presented extraordinary challenges for professionals in the aging field across campuses and communities, calling for rethinking and redesigning how their work was structured, their programs were delivered, and their connections were sustained. The pandemic also made clear the value of being an age-friendly institution of higher education, especially as we experience historic changes in age demographics. This symposium features campus leaders representing institutional partners of the Age-Friendly University (AFU) global initiative (endorsed by GSA’s Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education) who will discuss how their age-friendly programs were adapted during the pandemic to continue to advance age inclusivity. These diverse responses exemplify the vast potential of age-friendly opportunities. June and Andreoletti (Central Connecticut State University) will discuss how the Scholars for Life! program supported the engagement of older learners in the neighboring community through the engagement of faculty. Elfenbein (University of North Georgia) will describe how learning experiences for older learners and intergenerational exchange were created beyond the classroom through the Personal Enrichment, Action and Knowledge (PEAK) program. Terhune (Northern Kentucky University) will describe how student support practices and services were adapted to provide working adult students with guidance for navigating their educational needs during the pandemic. Kheirbek (University of Maryland, Baltimore) will describe how age-friendly collaborations with the institution’s medical school leveraged intergenerational connections and technology to foster social connection for hospitalized older adults. Gautam and Melillo (UMass Lowell) discuss how a campus partnership with the Learning in Retirement Association (LIRA) adapted efforts around healthy aging.

Модель организации социокультурных практик молодёжных приключений (на примере студенческого бала)

The article presents the results of the theoretical analysis of such phenomena as “socio-cultural practices”, “enrichment program”. The research determines their role in students’ personal development. The contemporary social position of a student calls for a new pedagogical approach, and therefore requires innovative or retro-innovative approaches. The author develops a socio-cultural practice of the youth enrichment program merging the ball and the role-play. Thus, the research aim is to develop an organization model of socio-cultural practices of youth enrichment programs (as exemplified by a ball) in order to enable students’ personal development. The study reveals characteristic pedagogical features of the socio-cultural practices of youth enrichment programs. Using the example of a student ball, the article shows how through the study of the history of dance and etiquette, students immerse themselves in the cultural environment, which will contribute to the development of patriotism, diligence and curiosity. Team work on concert acts contributes to the formation and strengthening of student partnership. Discussions about the nature of politeness promote kindness, empathy, honesty, and courtesy in student relationships. Students also develop non-standard thinking. Working together in the youth enrichment program, students learn to be hard-working and creative. Part of the enriching experience of this socio-cultural practice is secured in the non-standard situation that goes beyond students’ usual everyday life. The practical application of the research results makes it possible to use the proposed model to develop socio-cultural practices of youth enrichment programs aimed at students’ personal development.

The Impact of Leadership and Targeted Interventions to Close the Achievement Gap of Disadvantaged Pupils: A Case Study

<p style="text-align:justify">This research explores the impact of effective leadership and targeted interventions in closing the achievement gap of disadvantaged pupils in primary schools. Findings suggest that the case study schools use effective school leaders and a range of targeted interventions including early intervention, small group additional teaching, one-to-one tuition, peer tutoring, parental involvement, booster class, mastery learning, pastoral care, and enrichment programmes. Each of the above success factors and intervention strategies was explored in detail in the paper. The overall conclusions of this study are that the case study schools have closed the achievement gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers through providing effective school leaders and the use of a range of effective intervention strategies. We would suggest that the case study schools’ stories of how they have closed the achievement gap through providing strong school leaders and the use of targeted interventions are of local and national significance. Our research also suggests the possibilities for further research. The recommendations from the study are that there is a need to replicate and expand this research with a larger sample of the study, in order to explore in detail what works in schools.</p>

Effectiveness of an Enrichment Program for Young Children Enrolled in Head Start Programs

ABSTRACT The Developmental Screening, Monitoring, and Enrichment (DSME) program for low-income children and families is an initiative developed to support the goal of the Healthy People 2020 and 2030 that aims to increase the number of healthy young children to be ready for school. The 8-week DSME program focuses on reducing health disparities and improving the health of low-income children. A quasi-experimental research study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of the DSME program in 43 children enrolled in three Head Start programs. The children received weekly enrichment activities for 8 weeks. Each child was administered with Denver Developmental Screening Test-II at three intervals (week 1, week 4, and week 8) to identify their developmental levels and monitor their progress in four areas including personal-social, fine-motor, language, and gross-motor. Additionally, the parents received two 1-hour educational trainings to learn about children’s developmental milestones and strategies used to monitor and address their children’s developmental concerns. The data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA and paired t-test. The DSME program was found to be effective and can be easily implemented to any Head Start programs. The DSME program can help to increase the proportion of young children who are ready for school.

Changes in Brain Volume Resulting from Cognitive Intervention by Means of the Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment Program in Older Adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI): A Pilot Study.

There is increasing interest in identifying biological and imaging markers for the early detection of neurocognitive decline. In addition, non-pharmacological strategies, including physical exercise and cognitive interventions, may be beneficial for those developing cognitive impairment. The Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment (FIE) Program is a cognitive intervention based on structural cognitive modifiability and the mediated learning experience (MLE) and aims to promote problem-solving strategies and metacognitive abilities. The FIE program uses a variety of instruments to enhance the cognitive capacity of the individual as a result of mediation. A specific version of the FIE program was developed for the cognitive enhancement of older adults, focusing on strengthening orientation skills, categorization skills, deductive reasoning, and memory. We performed a prospective interventional pilot observational study on older subjects with MCI who participated in 30 mediated FIE sessions (two sessions weekly for 15 weeks). Of the 23 subjects who completed the study, there was a significant improvement in memory on the NeuroTrax cognitive assessment battery. Complete sets of anatomical MRI data for voxel-based morphometry, taken at the beginning and the end of the study, were obtained from 16 participants (mean age 83.5 years). Voxel-based morphometry showed an interesting and unexpected increase in grey matter (GM) in the anterolateral occipital border and the middle cingulate cortex. These initial findings of our pilot study support the design of randomized trials to evaluate the effect of cognitive training using the FIE program on brain volumes and cognitive function.

More than a babysitter: Looking back on an effective summer enrichment program

Each summer families across the globe send their children to summer camps and daycares for what amounts to babysitting. This study takes the discussion beyond babysitting and explores a unique summer enrichment program offered to rising second through fifth grade students in a modified enrichment camp model. During the four-week program, students were engaged in standards-based academic instruction in reading, mathematics, and science designed to provide enrichment activities to better prepare them for academic success in the upcoming year. Students were pre-tested over standards from the first quarter of the upcoming year. Then, they were taught the standards and post-tested. Analysis of the pretest and posttest data suggests that the program was successful in increasing students’ content knowledge in each of the subject areas taught. The findings imply that summer programs intentionally offering standards-based academics in an enrichment camp environment can be used to provide learning opportunities that diminish academic opportunity gaps.

The Effectiveness of Stem Enrichment Program Towards Young Gifted Students

The current education is on STEM towards preparing future human capital. As such, most of the education systems from different contexts have come up with various STEM-based courses to benefit their students. Among other STEM-based courses include Computer Programming, Crime Scene Investigation, Logical Reasoning, Cryptology, Fast-Paced Biology, Science Fiction, and Invention and Introduction to Robotics. These courses are normally taught to undergraduates and are considered high level. This study examines the incorporation of these STEM-based courses as an enrichment program on 284 students, aged 11 and 12 years old, in a three-week Summer Camp Program, organized by Pusat GENIUS@Pintar Negara, UKM. The students learned the STEM-based courses continuously for three weeks. Before teaching, they were given an off-level test as a pre-test to gauge their understanding and readiness on the subject matter. Various teaching techniques were used in the teaching such as; games, collaborative learning, dyad, small group discussion, short quizzes, and problem-based learning for a better understanding of the topics. Findings from the study show that there were statistically significant differences between the means of the student's achievement on the pre-test and post-test, indicating that students' performance improved due to the enrichment program. Students were found to perform better in the post-test as 96% of students showed an increment of marks from the pre-test. The results of the pre-test and post-test indicate that the programs had a statistically significant effect on students’ achievement. The students’ results were then assessed to determine the suitability and continuity of this program.

The Implementation of Human Resource Management in Improving the Quality of Teacher’s Learning

This article aims to describe the application of human resource management in improving the quality of teacher learning. The research used a qualitative approach, while the type of research was survey/field research. Collecting data using interview techniques, observation, and documentation. Furthermore, the collected data will be analyzed with data reduction techniques, data presentation, and finally drawing conclusions. Effecten van een sociale responsiviteitstraining op jongeren met ASS

The PEERS® (Program for Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills) training targets age-appropriate social skills. By the use of homework assignments and parallel parent sessions the generalization of skills enhanced. The results of this randomized controlled trial show that social skills significantly improved, as indicated by both selfand parent reports. However, the significant increase in observed social skills as observed in the PEERS® condition was as large as the increase observed in the active control condition. Further research will target mediators and moderators of treatment effects.

Swot Analysis in The Medium-Term Work Plan at SMAN 1 Pagaden 2021-2025

The Medium Term Work Plan (MTWP) in its preparation involves school supervisors, principals, school committees, teachers and other components involved in the school environment of SMAN 1 Pagaden. The purpose of preparing this MTWP is as a framework for all components at SMAN 1 Pagaden in four years. MTWP at SMAN 1 Pagaden is an effort to improve the quality of education such as curriculum development and improvement of advice and infrastructure, learning tools, management improvements, school funding and sources of funds, graduation standards, assessment systems and the role of school committees. Efforts to improve these things are by compiling the MTWP program for the period 2021-2025. This research was conducted to improve the performance or achievement of the work program of SMAN 1 Pagaden in period 2021–2025. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Pagaden, Subang Regency, which took place from January to April 2021. The data was processed using the quality reports application published by the West Java education quality assurance institute as a measure of the achievement of the work program in the previous year. The data is processed and analyzed using the description method. The remedial/enrichment program so far has not been effective, it still uses the effective hours of teaching and learning. Improvements to the remedial/enrichment program aim to improve the quality of learning, with higher learning achievement expected to have an impact on the standard chart of content so that it can go to the national education standard 4 category. Strengthening remedial and enrichment programs can be optimized through the use of school operational assistance funds.

AME+Cyber: Evaluating the online delivery of a holistic cyber-related talent development program

The present study used an explanatory mixed-method design to examine the effects of the Achievement Motivation Enhancement (AME)+Cyber enrichment program and teachers’ perception of procedures and outcomes in the context of emergency remote teaching, including online and hybrid formats, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Three teachers implemented the program with 57 students in grades 9 through 12. To evaluate the program, we combined change score analysis of pretest and posttest data on academic self-perception, self-regulation, goal valuation, cyber-related interest, as well as descriptive interpretative analysis of interview data. We found the online learning format was more effective than the hybrid format for the affective and cognitive outcomes. Qualitative findings suggested pedagogical concerns and struggle with online learning due to emergency remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic, centered around a lack of student engagement and interaction that appropriate levels of training and practice could remedy. Implications and future research suggestions are discussed.

Is a Video Worth a Thousand Words? Educating Preclinical Medical Students on Sterile Scrubbing, Gowning, and Gloving Virtually and In-Person.

IntroductionPrograms that offer early exposure to surgery for medical students foster interest in and positive perceptions of surgery. The COVID-19 pandemic led to suspension of these activities at our institution, the University of Kansas School of Medicine. In response to the lack of virtual alternatives, a pilot virtual surgery enrichment program was implemented for first-year students in place of in-person surgical exposure. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of in-person and virtual-based surgical education programs to expose preclinical medical students about the surgical realm of medicine.MethodsFirst-year medical students participated in either a virtual (Group A) or in-person (Group B) week-long surgical enrichment program. Group assignments were dictated by COVID restrictions on each of our three medical school campuses: Salina, Wichita, and Kansas City. Pre- and post-surveys with a 14-question multiple-choice assessment of surgical knowledge were distributed to participants. Paired Wilcoxon Signed Rank tests and Mann-Whitney-U tests were used for statistical analysis.ResultsThere were 14 participants in Group A and 7 participants in Group B. Both groups improved significantly from pre- to post-assessment score. (Group A, p = 0.01; Group B, p = 0.04). There was no difference between groups in the magnitude of score improvement from pre- to post-assessment (p = 0.59).ConclusionsThis pilot program demonstrated that virtual platforms can be a method to provide meaningful clinical experiences in surgery to preclinical medical students restricted from clinical activities. Further development of mentorship in virtual surgical programs and assessment of subjective experience is needed.

Effects of Randomly Fired Underwater Currents as an Occupational Enrichment Program in Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

Occupational enrichment (OE) is directed at introducing variations in the tank water so that fish can exercise as they do in the wild. Two trials were carried out to test the effects of randomly fired underwater currents (RFC) on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) maintained in tanks in a recirculation system, using 1226 trout distributed in two independent trials. In Trial 1, fingerling trout (n = 6 tanks, n = 40 fish per tank) were classified into two groups based on low (13%) or high (30%) coefficient of variation in live weight (CV), and exposed to RFC or no currents (controls). In Trial 2, adult trout (n = 12 tanks, n = 20 fish per tank) were either exposed to RFC or to a constant current (controls) from two submerged pumps. Both trials lasted four weeks. No significant differences in growth were observed between treatments in either trial. In Trial 1, RFC fish maintained a similar CV throughout the trial, while CV decreased in controls. Also, in Trial 1, plasma cortisol levels were higher and creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels lower in tanks with a low initial CV. In Trial 2, the CV was lower in RFC trout, where cortisol levels were also significantly lower and triglycerides significantly higher. The results suggest that OE using RFC can have positive effects by helping to reduce stress levels, and provides fish with biologically meaningful environmental enrichment related to the natural history of the species.

An examination of nest-building behaviour using five different nesting materials in C57BL/6J and BALB/c mice

AbstractThe aim of our study was to assess the nest-building behaviour of two mouse (Mus musculus) strains using different nesting materials and examine possible sex- and housing-specific effects. Adult mice of two strains (C57BL/6J; n = 64 and BALB/cAnNCrl; n = 99) were randomly allocated to the following housing groups: single-housed male, single-housed female, pair-housed male and pair-housed female. One of the following nest-building materials was placed in each home-cage in a random order: nestlets (Plexx BV, The Netherlands), cocoons (Carfil, Belgium), wooden wool, crinklets and compact (all three, Safe, Germany). The following day, nests were rated applying a nest-scoring scale ranging from 0 to 10, the nests were removed, and a different nest-building material provided. In both tested strains, nestlets achieved the highest nest-building scores when compared to the other four nest-building materials. All nest-building materials scored higher in BALB/c mice compared to C57BL/6J animals reaching statistical significance in crinklets only. Sex comparison revealed that female C57BL/6J mice only scored significantly higher using crinklets than males and BALB/c female mice were rated significantly higher using wooden wool, cocoons and compact than their male counterparts. While pair-housed C57BL/6J animals built higher-rated nests than single-housed mice in the C57BL/6J strain in all five materials tested, the scores were not significantly different in the BALB/c strain. Results of the present study reveal significant strain-, sex- and housing-related influences on the complexity of nests using different standardised building materials. Such observations need to be taken into account when planning the optimal enrichment programme for laboratory animals.

This study aimed to design a program based on programmed education for the development of reading skills for low-achievers. The study based on the semi-experimental method. The sample consisted of 12 low-achievment students from fourth grade. The sample was divided into two groups: a control group of 6 students students and an experimental group consisting of students. The study used the scale of socio-economic level of the family, and the scale of reading skills whereby the two scales were applied on the two groups.The results showed that the program, which bases on the programmed education is very effective as an educational tool. The study recommended that more studies be conducted on enrichment programs for low achievers at different age levels

Identification of Lampung local potential as source of Biology learning in senior high school

This research is a preliminary study on a small and limited scale that aims to identify local potentials in the Lampung area as a source of learning biology with conformity to the Basic Competencies in the 2013 Curriculum. This study used a qualitative method with a survey technique through an exploratory descriptive approach. Participants in this study were all biology teachers from 17 public high schools in Bandar Lampung totaling 30 teachers (5 males and 25 females). The selection of participation was done through purposive sampling technique using certain criteria. The results of the study show 18 local potentials of Lampung consisting of 6 natural resource potentials, 4 conservation areas, 4 culinary delights, 2 arts, 1 handicraft and 1 traditional ceremony. The grouping of local potentials can be related to the subject of biology at the high school level. Local potential can be categorized as use in the field of education, namely natural resources and conservation areas. It can alsobe used as practicum activities with the help of LKPD media. Furthermore,local culinary potential can be used as practicum activities on learning devices (RPP), local potentials for arts, crafts. moreover, traditional ceremonies can be used as an additional reference for enrichment programs on learning devices (RPP).

"Developing Capabilities". Inclusive Extracurricular Enrichment Programs to Improve the Well-Being of Gifted Adolescents.

The educational inclusion of gifted students requires not only equity but also emotional accessibility and social participation. However, different studies indicate that gifted students constitute a vulnerable group (for example, the incidence of bullying is higher). Psychosocial variables are determinants for the development and expression of giftedness, particularly during adolescence. This study analyzes the impact of an inclusive extracurricular enrichment program for gifted secondary school students on the well-being of adolescents. The program was based on the enrichment model of Renzulli and Reis (2016). The objective was to develop a cluster to facilitate high-achieving learning in collaboration with teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors from their schools as well as university professors and students that would address their emotions and socialization across the board and benefit or involve their peers in their regular classrooms. The intervention took place over two years: eight sessions, one afternoon per week, for five months during each school year. The sample consisted of 47 students from the first and second years of compulsory secondary education (Educación Secundaria Obligatoria - ESO) (age, mean (M) = 12.57, standard deviation (SD) = 0.82) during the first year and 27 students from the first, second, and third years of ESO (age, M = 13.48, SD = 0.94) during the second year; 61.4% were girls. Participants completed a questionnaire before (T1) and (T3) and after (T2) and (T4) each intervention. The results show better outcomes for psychological and subjective well-being, more positive moods, and a significant reduction in school fears. The results from this study indicate the importance of educational screening and support for gifted students to promote their well-being through collaborative enrichment activities.
