Implementation of Android-Based English Application System as Learning Tool for 6-12 Years Old Due to Covid-19

Background based on science development today requires the education world to increase qualities in all fields. With technology existence in modern times, it is expected to be able to increase quality of learning more effectively. The purposes of conducting this study are (1) bringing students into a new teaching and learning atmosphere so that they do not get bored easily in learning during the covid-19 pandemic, (2) teachers can monitor students’ development who are less motivated by the learning provided by the teacher through assignments such as only through WhatsApp or Google Classroom, (3) developing learning application in schools. In the English learning application, there are 15 English vocabulary lessons about colors, numbers, fruits, letters, and others accompanied by exercises and evaluations to measure students' understanding and make them able to learn independently, also as an alternative learning media. This application is supported by images, sounds and animations to attract students' learning interest. Data collection methods were tests, observations and documentation. The subjects of this study were 50 students. Various instruments were used to collect data such as: (1) students’ response questionnaires (2) interview to support the results of students’ response questionnaires (3) learning evaluation questions through android application media.

Usability Evaluation of English Learning Application Base on Augmented Reality Using ISO 9241

Augmented Reality (AR) technology is one of the educational applications that may be created. AR is a learning tool that may be used to integrate virtual things or objects into a natural environment to engage in real-time. English is a foreign language that must be learnt. For language assistance, pupils must acquire a sufficient command of vocabulary via reading and listening exercises. Two factors contribute to the ineffectiveness of oral communication: pupils who do not have enough vocabulary knowledge and students who do not know how to employ vocabulary non their spoken language. One of the learning media that has been developed is the AR-based English vocabulary learning application which was developed in early April 2020 to September 2020. This application aims to help elementary school students (6-12 years) in learning English vocabulary. Where in the current learning which is due to the pandemic thus making distance learning. The purpose of this study is to measure the usability of the application whose vocabulary has been developed from three aspects, namely effectiveness, efficiency and user satisfaction (ISO 9241). The results of the research conducted show that the usability level of this application is 89% effectiveness, 94% efficiency and 91% user satisfaction. So that this learning application can be said to have good usability and can be used as a supporting medium for learning English vocabulary for children aged 6-12 years independently.

Designing Ention Application Based on Android in Pronunciation Learning

In the world of technology, education is very important in English learning media. In this case, many students have difficulty understanding English learning, especially in pronunciation. Therefore, the author makes an English learning application media to help students pronounce English properly and correctly. At this stage, the author uses the R&D (research and development) method by adapting ADDIE (analyze, design, develop, implement, evaluate) in this development the authors get 91,6% data results inmedia validation which can be characterized as very good. In the results of the validation of the material, the author gets 75% data results which are categorized as good. In addition, at the implementation stage, the responses from students received 78,1% of data which can be characterized as good. From the whole data, it can be said that this ENTION (English in Action Application) is possible to use as a learningmedia at Islamic Senior High School At-Taufiq Bogem, Diwek.

English Pronunciation by Korean EFL Learners on Hilokal Language Educational Application

English is being learned for several purposes by people globally embody some different accents; therefore, this study analyse the English pronunciation by Korean learners on English learning application classes since Korea is still having lack of perfect English standard pronunciation with its identity of developed industry country. Consequently, this study aims to investigates Korean-English phenomenon on Hilokal application as most English learners there by comparing the differences between original English sounds and Korean using descriptive qualitative from the audio recordings has been collected. The result shows that all 7 Korean learners (age range of 20-35) still produce some different sounds from the standard English ones noted as International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) because of the differences in the writing systems of the two languages and the alphabet of Korean itself. There are five places of articulations: labiodental, alveolar, post-alveolar, bilabial, and palatal seized from some processes such as replacement, addition, and omission in producing the word sounds. Furthermore, the dominant difference in sounds is in sound addition /ə/ or /ɪ/ with 27 items and 17 items from loan words. The implications of this study are fresh data focus on phonology analysis and can be useful in English teaching practice for foreign languages in order to have close resemblance English pronunciation to have more intelligibility with the standard patented.

Perancangan aplikasi belajar bahasa inggris berbasis website

In times of a pandemic like this, all learning activities are carried out online via the internet with the help of learning applications that can support one's education. In the current era, there is a great need for interactive distance learning applications. An interactive English learning application in web form will be easily accessed and used by anyone. Therefore, on this occasion we created a website-based learning application, especially for English subjects because that language is an international language. In this research, an English learning application will be built that can be run on a web-based basis. The material displayed in this application is tenses, listening, speaking, idioms, expressions, regular and irregular verbs, and slang. This application is designed with UML modeling, developed using HTML programming language. We also use the waterfall software process model in designing the BeBI (Learning English) application system. The purpose of making this application is to make it easier to learn English with material that is easy to understand and this application has an easily accessible interface. The waterfall model that we use is the Sommerville waterfall with the consideration that the system design steps will be organized, focused, and easy to follow. Where the result of designing this application is an educational application system for users which is expected to help the community in learning English and make it easier for someone to prepare themselves to take English tests such as TOEFL and TOEIC. For further development, it is hoped that this application can be accessed on various platforms.

THE USE OF THE DUOLINGO GUESSING GAME APPLICATION IN TEACHING SPEAKING ABILITY TOWARD 8TH - STUDENTS

The Use Of The Duolingo Guessing Game Application In Teaching Speaking Ability Toward 8th - Students. This study was aimed to analyze how students use the game application named Duolingo, as an English learning application, to evaluate its benefit to help students in learning English and to assess students' skills in speaking. The data for this research was collected by using post and pre-test methods in research techniques. The data source was students from SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan, focused on 8th grade by providing multiple-choice questions by using Duolingo Applications. The quantitative design was used in this study and the techniques for data analysis include (1) data collection procedures, (2) data analysis techniques, and (3) conclusions. Based on analysis findings, students provided improvements to English learning and they speak more smoothly with a better tone. However, learning English has a number of advantages, and since Duolingo is a form of multiple choice test so the students enjoy, and it help the problem of speaking and use repetition of words so the students can follow how to say or speak.

User Interface Modeling for Basic English Learning Applications using the Child-Centered Design Method

Interactive media convey information through videos or images that can move with computer control in their presentation. Interactive media have a positive effect on children's language development. A language is a tool that humans need to communicate with each other. With the development of technology, especially in communication, Indonesian people have begun to learn English which is used as a means of communication between nations around the world. According to the English Proficiency Index, Indonesia will be ranked 80th out of 112 countries in the world in 2021. This shows that Indonesia is included in the low ability group. One of the efforts to improve English language skills is to introduce basic material from an early age. Children aged 0-6 years quickly absorb and receive various information. This study aims to build a UI modeling of basic English learning applications according to the needs and criteria of kindergarten-age children, which was built using the Child-Centered Design method to analyze the tasks required by the user and evaluate the level of usability using the USE Questionnaire method with a Likert Scale of 1-5. The findings of this study provide user interface design recommendations for basic English learning applications and have a usability score of 88.75. These findings indicate that this application is easy to use and provides a positive experience in learning basic English for kindergarten-age children.

모바일 앱을 활용한 문장 수준의 영어학습이 산업대학 학생들에게 미치는 학습영향

This study examines the effects of using a smartphone application(App) for English learning on industrial college students. It focuses on the learning of English sentences by participants who are lacking practical communication skills. 42 participants used the App to learn sentences taught in an English elective course over a semester. They took the conversation class first and learned key sentences from the class using the App every week during the semester. When the course was finished, this study conducted a post-semester survey to examine the effects of using the App. As a result, first, this study found that participants had the attitudes of being repetitive and steady, self-directed, and willing to use spare time for learning English. Second, this study found that the App helped to improve participants’ motivation, confidence, and interests. The results also showed that the App helped students with their English reading, listening, vocabulary and expressions, understanding of sentences, and English conversation skills well. Overall, this study confirms that using an App satisfies the needs of industrial college students who want to improve their practical communication skills. Finally, this study provides some suggestions on how to improve English communication skills for industrial college students.

Android Application of English Learning as Learning Media for Junior High School Students

One form of technological advances in computers is a mobile device. At this time English is a very important requirement in all fields of education and work even in daily life, because English itself has become an international language where most countries use this language. However, most junior high school students often have difficulty in learning English. This research aims to create an English learning application based on the existing curriculum using Adobe Animate CC 2017 which is offline. The stages used to make the application in this study are problem analysis, problem, problem solving strategies and system design. The global system design uses UML modeling which consists of Use case Diagrams, Story Boards, Activity Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams and Flow Charts. This application makes it easier for junior high school students to learn English so that it helps make it easier for teachers to convey material and also this application considers all aspects of development, is meaningful, interesting, and functional. features after testing on several smartphone devices.

ENHANCING SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH EXI (ENGLISH EXPRESSING OPINION) APPLICATION

ABSTRACT This research aims at designing an English learning application which called EXI (English Expressing Opinion). This product consists of some materials and exercises which is appropriate and feasible to be studied for students. All materials in this product are based on senior high school Geade XI. The purpose of designing this product is to enhance students’ speaking skill. The research method used in this research is Research and Development. This development used ADDIE model which have several steps, those are; 1) Analysis, 2) Design, 3) Development, 4) Implementation, and 5) Evaluation. The result of this research shows that both the media validation and the material validation are in “very good” category. The students’ responses of try out result also shows in “very good” category. By having those result, this EXI (English Expressing Opinion) application is feasible to be used as a supplementary learning media for students at grade XI. Furthermore this research can be used as reference to other researcher in developing English learning media in different level of students. Exploring Teriary Students’ Experience of Informal Digital Learning of English for Boosting English Receptive Skills

The speed of technology development facilities students in learning English digitally. They could express and use English in informal digital environment through social media and learning English application or resources. Informal Digital Learning of English (IDLE) contributes to students language enhancement. This study is want to dig in about the use of digital learning to informal and independent learning of English. Therefore, this research aims to explore how IDLE activity can engage receptive skills in university students and to explore how IDLE receptive skill activity can develop university students’ receptive skills. This study found that each individul can experience an increase in English receptive skills by going through the stages of learning using social media and English learning applications. IDLE-based learning can be built through the initiative and willingness of each individual, because this learning is not tied to a specific schedule or material to be studied. Each individual can organize and determine how they learn according to their wishes.

THE STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION TOWARDS USING MOBILE APPLICATION FOR BUSINESS ENGLISH LEARNING

This paper reviews about The Students’ Perception towards Using Mobile Application for Business English Learning that the writer consider, may contribute to the overall effectiveness of the learning process of Business English Learning. The focus of the study is to know the implementation of Using Mobile Application for Business English Learning. The problem of this research is about “What is student’s perception mobile application for Business English Learning? In line with focus of research is to know student’s perception toward the mobile application for Business English Learning. It is necessary to describe the weaknesses and strengths in Using Mobile Application for Business English Learning into the mobile application: WhatsApp and Google Classroom. In this study, the writer used qualitative method, the writer provided questionnaires. The questionnaire was given by the writer to 39 students. They were told by the writer to answer the questions to find out the students perception toward English business learning using Mobile Application. Based on the findings and discussion, using the mobile application (Google classroom & WhatsApp) in Business English learning online classroom is the best choice due to pandemic COVID-19. In term of students perceptions toward using mobile application the writer concluded that it clearly shows the students have perceptions in English learning during the pandemic COVID-19 while using mobile application (Google classroom & WhatsApp); such as learning English using a mobile application makes it easier to learn and they understand learning using a mobile application, but sometimes students understand better if they learn face-to-face. In term of the students perceptions toward strengths and weaknesses in using mobile application for English learning, the writer conclude that it clearly shows that the strengths and weaknesses of using mobile applications for learning English, most of the answers of students in the strengths of a mobile app is to simplify the learning process due to the covid-19 pandemic. The weaknesses is that learning will be difficult when the internet connection has problems and slow.

SPEAKING INTERACTION PROBLEMS AMONG INDONESIAN EFL STUDENTS

EFL students have become more prodigious in Indonesia as the use of English has also increased globally at present. EFL students possibly tend to get numerous problems in practising their speaking communicatively. Due to the fact that EFL students are more likely to feel shame to practice their English constantly because of several factors among them. Besides, the use of English does not become habitual on a daily basis and social interaction. The quality of their knowledge of English in the previous study also takes part as the reason why they still have problems in speaking performance. That explanation leads to the speaking problems that arise among the EFL students. This research applied descriptive qualitative research. The participants of this research were the students in majoring the English education program in the 2020/2021 academic year. In this research, the researcher used classroom observation and interviews as the instrument. The interview used a semi-structured interview that was given to the students to see what problems they face during speaking performances and what efforts they have done to solve the problems. From the data analysis, the researcher found that the students have speaking problems in speaking performances in the case of pronunciation, lack of vocabulary and less self-confidence. All of the problems are caused by a lack of practice or interest in studying and memorizing vocabulary. Moreover, the attempts that students take as the solution in solving their speaking problem such as; practising more, increasing vocabulary through memorizing, learning to speak through applications for instance; YouTube, song apps, and Duolingo (English learning application).

Developing Android-Based English Vocabulary Learning Materials for Primary School Students

This study intended to develop an android-based application for English vocabulary learning for primary school students. By implementing Design and Development design model, the researcher underwent three main stages namely; 1) Design, 2) Development, and 3) Evaluation. Through the use of questionnaires and interview guide, the needs were assessed. The results showed that the primary school students need more time to learn English and emphasize more on vocabulary learning. The primary school students need a smartphone application which provides vocabulary practice, test and entertainment about the topics learnt in the class. The smartphone application was developed in Android Package Kit (APK) format designed by using Microsoft Power Point. Contrasted to others, this smartphone application provides vocabulary practices, quizzes, and games for all topics that 4, 5, and 6 graders need to learn. The smartphone application was tested and evaluated by 5 English teachers and 2 technology experts to find out the quality. The results showed that the application has a very good quality and ready to be installed and used in Android smartphone. An effective use of the application with meaningful learning activities for vocabulary learning for young learners are strongly suggested.

Testing Learning Media for English Learning Applications Using BlackBox Testing Based on Equivalence Partitions

Some testings or testings of an application are very important. So that an application can appear to be running properly or there are still errors in its use. Which later can be improved optimally. In this test, the black box testing technique was used as a test. Black box testing is a system for testing an application by looking at the menu whether it is following what is desired or still needs improvement. The application that will be tested is the Duolingo application which on the play store gets a high rating and is used by more than 12 million smartphone users. The type of testing of the method used, namely the black box, varies, but one of the methods used here is Equivalence Partitions. The Equivalence Partitions technique is a test based on entering data on each form of the system or application used. In each menu, input data on each form will be tested and carried out based on its function, whether it is valid or not. So that by doing this testing the application is getting better and the application must be of good quality according to their respective functions. So that many smartphone users who want to use the application make it easy to use it<p> </p>

Android-based English teaching material application at State Polytechnic of Fakfak

One of the ways to attract students' interest in learning English is to use interactive teaching materials. However, the teaching materials used at State Polytechnic of Fakfak are still in the form printed materials which seem inefficient to be used during the Covid 19 pandemic because the all the teaching process is online. Therefore, one of the solutions to implement mobile learning. Using mobile learning provides the users accessing material through smartphones and learning through mobile learning applications anywhere and anytime. This study aims to develop teaching materials in the form of an Android-based English Learning Application at Department of Informatics Management at the State Polytechnic of Fakfak, West Papua. The method used in this study is the Waterfall method, where a software development model is carried out sequentially, which means that one stage is carried out after the previous stage is completed. With the teaching materials in the Android-based English course, it can help the educators to carry out their duty as a lecturer to handle learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic. The result of this study is an Android-based English Learning Application that is functionally tested using the Black Box method. Based on the test results, the application is functioning properly. This is proved by the feasibility test using distributed questionnaires to 40 students of the Department of Informatics Management. Pendampingan Penerapan Aplikasi Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Berbasis IT bagi Guru Bahasa Inggris

Background: Distance learning has been a major source of learning since the covid-19 pandemic hit the world. Unfortunately, more research shows that distance learning faces many obstacles, so learning goals are not achieved. This community service aims to assist English teachers in implementing IT-based English learning applications, namely Chatbot and Smart Rector. The teachers chosen as partners are teachers of Lamongan State MTs 2. Method: The implementation of this devotion follows the steps, that is; conduct preliminary research, conduct needs analysis, hold seminars, hold workshops, and then conduct monitoring and evaluation. Results: Teachers understand and master the concept and application of e-learning methods by using mobile devices such as smart phones, tablets, and laptops. Conclusion: The knowledge of English teachers at MTS Negeri 2 Lamongan has significantly improved in terms of application knowledge and e-learning methods using mobile devices.

EFL Teachers’ Problems and Solutions in Teaching English to Students with Intellectual and Developmental Disability

Sekolah Luar Biasa (SLB) is a school specialized for students with special needs, particularly students with Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD). In Indonesia, the government guarantees that they have the same right to study formally and informally; and to get the best teachers in the teaching and learning process. In English language teaching, however, even qualified teachers have problems while teaching English to students with IDD. Despite the urgency to solve the problems faced by teachers who teach English or a foreign language to special needs students, especially IDD, there are only a few articles covering this topic. This study, which uses a descriptive qualitative method, aims at uncovering the problems and solutions of five English teachers in teaching students with IDD in SLB Pembina Tingkat Nasional Bagian C Malang. In order to obtain the needed data, an observation checklist, a field note, and an interview guide were utilized. The findings revealed that problems faced by the teachers were related to teachers’ English proficiency, methods and media used in teaching, and students’ ability in learning. The teachers used different solutions to overcome the problems, but the most common solution was using repetition in teaching and practicing. This solution was used as the students had difficulties in understanding and remembering the lesson. The other solutions used during the teaching and learning process include YouTube videos, English learning application, posters, and BSE.

Developing an Android-Based English Reading Material for the Eighth Grade Students in Mtsn Karangasem

This study intended to develop an android-based application for English reading material learning for the eighth-grade students in MTsN Karangasem. This study used the design and development design model proposed by Richey & Klein (2014) which consisted of three major steps namely; 1) Design, 2) Development, 3) Evaluation. The subjects of this study were the eighth grade students of MTsN Karangasem, the English teacher in MTsN Karangasem, and integrated technology experts. The instruments used in this study were questionnaire, interview guide, and product evaluation sheets. The data were collected and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that the students’ motivation to learn English was lack and need more learning resources or materials to learn reading comprehension. The eighth-grade students need a smartphone application that provides reading material learnt in the class. The material developed in this study was limited to Recount Text material. The quality of the application got a high score from experts, which categorized in the excellent category. The use of the effective application with meaningful learning activities
