PENGUATAN MINAT BELAJAR BAHASA INGGRIS MELALUI KEGIATAN ENGLISH CAMP

As an effort to promote students' interest in improving speaking and communicating skills in English, it is necessary to implement a community service program that can help them get started. This time the service held an English Camp activity at SMA Negeri 13 with the workshop method of providing material, Discussion Group Assistance and English Games for two consecutive days. This service activity begins by dividing the participants into small groups accompanied by student instructors. The results of this service received a positive response from the participants, this response showed students' interest in improving their skills in English, especially intensive English learning activities involving games which increased the participants' vocabulary mastery.

Existence of English Meeting Club in Supporting the English-Speaking Skill of University Students: Their Constructive Voices

This study aimed to find out the students’ perception on English meeting club to support their English-speaking skill. The subject of this study were students at Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Parepare who are the members of English meeting club in LIBAM (Lintas Imajinasi Bahasa Mahasiswa). This study was case study of descriptive qualitative. There are seven students participated as research respondent. This study used interview as a research instrument. From the result of interview, majority of students had the perception that the English club was able to improve their speaking skill. They experienced development when speaking English in English meeting club such as no longer filler words anymore, can pronounce words properly, speaking correctly and know more about grammar. In addition, after joining English meeting club, they become more confident to speak in front of people. They also taught and trained to teach English at the junior and senior high school which is called TOT (Training of Trainer) in preparation for becoming tutor in the school-built program and English camp provided by LIBAM in several schools. The researchers concluded that the students had the perception that the English club was able to improve and support in developing English speaking skill. They are also more interested being taught by cheerful tutors in informal situations preferred in regular class, so the English meeting club provides students with a place to practice speaking English well without fear of making mistakes and it is appropriate media to improve students' speaking skill.

Summer English Camp in China: Importance of Relationships in English Language Learning

With business relations and international travel on the rise between China and English-speaking countries, the need for English teachers in China has also increased. One method of teaching English in China occurs through summer English camps. The research presented here examines the teacher, camp coordinator, student, and parent experience with a three-week summer English camp for kindergarten through grade eight students hosted by an international school in China. The objective of the study is to describe the lived experiences from the perspective of the various partners to examine whether the curriculum adequately meets their needs, whether children are improving their English skills, and whether the teachers are sufficiently prepared for their experiences. Findings suggest that all participants indicate a high level of satisfaction with the summer camp, especially the importance of relationships in English language learning. Some of the expressed concerns lead to recommendations for improvements. In this study, the practice of the summer English camp is linked to the current English as an additional language research, making this research relevant to a broad international audience. Not only are summer English camps in high demand in China, but in other countries around the world as well.

Students' Perception towards English Camp in Kampung Inggris Pare on Improving Their Speaking Skill

Speaking is the most critical of the four skills and requires the student's full attention and concentration. This research aims to determine students' perception of English Camp on EFL undergraduate USK students' speaking skills. This research was conducted using qualitative research methods. This study included seven undergradute students from Universitas Syiah Kuala. Interviews were used to collect research data. In collecting the data, the interviewees were selected by using purposive sampling. The seven chosen participants enrolled in the Kampung Inggris Pare (An English Camp Program in Pare). The results showed that Kampung Inggris Pare improved students' speaking skills. These improvements include mastering adequate vocabulary, improving pronunciation and fluency in speech, improving grammar and comprehension ability, and establishing self-confidence. These components work together to help students enhance their speaking skills to confront the numerous problems they face when speaking. The result of this research shows that English camp plays an essential role in improving students' speaking skills, such as the introduction of new vocabulary and improvement of pronunciation, fluency in speech, increase in self-confidence, improvement of comprehension skills, and grammar improvement. Thus, their performance on campus is improving, as well as their fluency in speaking skills in daily life.

Beyond the Mainstream: English Camp's Strategies for Enhancing English Proficiency of High School Students in Indonesia

<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the problems of English learning in Indonesia is the low effectiveness of formal instruction in secondary schools. This study investigates how an extracurricular program (namely English Camp) conducted by an Islamic State School based in a rural area in Riau province, Indonesia, was managed to enhance their students' English proficiency. We collected our qualitative study's data through a semi-structured interview with the English Camp initiator and analysis of a webinar conducted by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and recorded on YouTube. We analyzed our data inductively and thematically to recognize major themes that will later enable us to answer our research questions. We found that the English Camp had comprehensive course contents covering the four English skills. In terms of learning methods, it applied some 'out of the box' strategies that are inspired by a contextual approach to learning. The school decided to go beyond the normal mainstream national curriculum practiced in such a state Islamic high school. Among the featured programs of the English Camp are taking the pledge (collective commitment) for English use, English Zone, weekly roleplay performances, and public speaking exams with university lecturers. Based on our findings, we suggest that other schools study the school's breakthroughs, especially with their "out of the box" and contextual programs to help students develop their English skills.</p>

Creating Realistic Scenarios in Teaching Speaking Skill Through Virtual English Camp During Covid-19

The purpose of this study is to determine whether creating realistic scenarios (CRS) for teaching speaking skills through a Virtual English Camp is beneficial in improving students' speaking skills (VEC). Determine the impact of generating a realistic scenario through VEC on improving the capacity of English major students to deliver speeches, participate in public speaking events, participate in discussions, and participate in the debate. This study is an experiment involving a one-group pre-test and post-test design, as well as a survey design to determine the overall average of the scores. The participant of this study is 145 college students of English Majors from South Kalimantan, Indonesia. They put out a significant effort to improve their communication skills. Their trainer trained them and compelled them to refrain from acting as a language instructor during the discussion program, and instead to speak in the target language, which was English, throughout the program. During this study, it was found that students who were taught with VEC thereafter had higher post-test scores than students who were taught before they were tested for their communicative competence. Students' communicative competence increases significantly when they participate in the VEC model program to teach them speaking abilities.

Young English Learners’ Perception of Multiple Intelligences in a Web-based English Learning

The primary objective of this study is to investigate how Multiple Intelligences (MI) can be applied to English activities and perceived when implemented in EFL web-based learning contexts. To achieve this goal, eleven Korean primary students participated in the five-day online English camp, which was carried out using synchronous and asynchronous methods. The study employed data triangulation from an in-depth individual interview, a questionnaire, and teachers’ reflective journals. The data were processed through content analysis by transcribing data and coding to extract valid inferences. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, participants perceived web-based English activities differently according to their intelligence preferences. Second, participants perceived that web-based MI activities efficiently activate their intelligence with digitalized learning tools and modes and interact with other learners. In contrast, some participants negatively perceived some activities due to their less preferred MI. Third, participants managed their difficulties with various web-based learning modes such as chat boxes and share screens. Pedagogical implications were drawn from this study to activate learners’ various intelligence in the limited personal contact via web-based learning platforms.

University Students’s Perception About Extracurricular English Camp In Improving English Skills

This study aims at describing students’ perception about English Camp for the first-year student of English Education Study Program at Universitas Brawijaya on enhancing English proficiency through the three domains of learning. English Camp is innovation from English Education Study Program that begin from 2016. But, the perception of students who had joined English Camp are still unknown. The type of this study is descriptive, using quantitative approach. Data were gained from student answer on questionnaire that they had fulfilled. The sampling technique used in this study was accidental sampling. Subjects in this study were 40 students from a total of English Education student batch of 2018 at Universitas Brawijaya. This study using questionnaire that had been validated by the expert as the instrument. The questionnaire uses Likert scale where there are two forms of statements, positive and negative statements. The results show that almost all of respondent give positive perception that English Camp can enhance their English proficiency through the three domains of learning: cognitive, affective and psychomotor. Almost all of student show their agreement based on the 10 statements through questionnaire the researcher provide. The conclusion of this study is that almost all students give positive perception. It refers to the three domains of learning by Bloom. From the three domains, it shows a positive perception in each domain. This indicates that students get enhanced in English proficiency by following English Camp.

English Camp Assistance Using Need Analysis to Strengthen Students' Speaking Skill at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Gresik

Community service activities are carried out at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Gresik which is located on JL. Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo No. 162, Setigi, Randuagung, Gresik. The form of this activity is an outdoor activity of an English Camp which was held for two days from October 17-18, 2021. This activity aims to improve students' speaking skills. The implementation of this English Camp assistance was carried out using need analysis activity by conducting interviews with English teachers at the school. The results show that students want a form of English learning that is different from what they receive in class and can implement in daily activities, especially during school hours. Furthermore, it is hoped that the output of the activity will make students more motivated to improve their speaking skills. In addition, teachers can also facilitate with various interactive learning media so that they can create fun learning activities.

Students' Perspectives on Their Parents' Involvement in Their L2 English Learning

In the past few years, parental involvement as an important factor in students’ English learning had been investigated. Though parents might feel like they were contributing to their children's English learning, how their children really felt toward their involvement was another aspect that needs to be investigated. In response to this, this research investigated the students’ perspectives on their parents’ involvement in their L2 English learning using a descriptive case study design. The findings revealed that students perceived parental involvement as important. The students’ attitudes were also found to be mostly positive. Furthermore, most of the students stated that there were some kinds of parental involvement that they wished their parents had done to help them achieve their goals in their English learning, namely sending to an English camp and studying English at home. Accordingly, this study suggested that parents should have paid more attention to what their children wanted when it came to their English learning, especially when their children were mature enough to understand the importance of English and when they knew what they wanted in their English learning.

English Camp serves as a method that gives the teacher and the student a new learning atmosphere in which it can be done either inside or outside the classroom. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach where the data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation. The date then was analyzed by using triangulation consisting the process of; data condensation, the display of the data, conclusion verification. The result of this research suggested that English Camp is perceived as an effective atmosphere for English learners and teachers in achieving the learning objective. It can improve students speaking performance for speaking is all about forming habits when this is the focus of the entire learning activities.

Role of Community Placement Programmes in Development of Professional Basic Skills Among First-Year Medical Students

Various methods have been implemented in the medical field to foster professional basic skills among students. Nevertheless, the contribution of a community placement programme (CPP) with regard to first year of medical students is still unclear. The study objective is to explore how CPP contributes to the development of professional basic skills among students within this group. This qualitative study was conducted between January 2017 and March 2018. Two batches of the first-year medical students with a total of 24 students were involved in the study. The data were gathered using reflective journals which were written from a one-day English camp that was held at the Universiti Sains Malaysia’s School of Medical Sciences. A total of 24 reflective journals have been used as data sources which were then analysed using ATLAS.ti software version 8.0 based on the open, axial and selective coding process. The result has shown that professional skills were established through three themes and eight categories. The themes were personal skills (e.g., time management, self-management, self-confident, social adjustment, internal motivation and communication skill), leadership skills (e.g., teamwork) and scientific skills (e.g., proposal writing skills). CPP is an agenda to nurture the medical students’ professional basic skills. Therefore, such an agenda must continue to be included in medical education.

Menggagas Kampung Inggris Padang menjadi Kampung Inggris Masyarakat

The aim of this social service is to initiate an English camp in Padang to become an English Camp Village like other famous English camps. This English camp is still in the form of an English course where many students come here to study English for some purposes like to prepare to continue to under graduate degree; to get a job or to pass TOEFL test. As its name suggest, an English camp is not merely Englishmen who live there, but it is only a collection of English courses located in one area. Since there are students coming here to study so that the researcher names this course Kampung Inggris Padang. Based on the initiation carried out for this social service, it was found that there is improvement of students’ ability in speaking English like doing corversation or dialogue and reading aloud English textbook. If it is viewed from the participation of society, there are participations of people around the course like sharing ideas, skill, energy, social participation for better future of Padang English Camp. The prominece is that the realizing and caring of people about their children’s education.

ENGLISH LITERACY MANAGEMENT AT SMPI AL ABIDIN SURAKARTA

This study aims to analyze the implementation of school management to improve students' English literacy at SMP Islam Al Abidin Surakarta. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. The process of seeking and finding information related to English literacy improvement management is carried out through the 5W + 1H process. The study results showed that the implemented school management consisted of steps that supported English literacy starting from planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating activities. 1) The planning steps is related to determining goals, objectives, designing literacy activity programs, 2) organizing the resource, 3) implementing related to English literacy is through the following programs: (a) English Development Program, such as: English Camp, English Festival, Saturday Performance, Every day is English day, and Five Minutes Presentation (b) Literacy Programs, such as: Reading, Listening, Speaking Time and 4) controlling of implementing English literacy.

Games As Warming Up Activities in the Classroom for Indonesian EFL Students

This study aimed to describe how games as warming up activities are used by trainers teaching the English language at Desa Inggris Singosari. Our approach was descriptive qualitative, conducting a case study wherein twelve students and three trainers from the Smart Holiday English Camp were included. The trainers used games such as the identity card, arranging words, gesturing body, mentioning profession, guessing game, and asking, do you love me? The games required words to be placed and sentences guessed. Data were collected using questionnaires, observations checklist, and through interviews. The results showed that the games as a warm-up activity did suit the students’ age and their English learning ability as most of them were in the elementary level. In addition, an improvement was also seen in the students’ understanding of the lessons and their self-confidence and self-motivation for learning English. However, some difficulties were encountered while using this model, such as the students ignored the game instruction, they would play unfair, using the game was time-consuming, which left less time to practice English.

Learning Society in Accelerating the Increase of English Understanding and Communicating at Mahesa Putri English Camp

Camp is one form of non-formal education that is used as a place to live while undergoing language courses. This study is generally aimed at determining the learning society in accelerating the improvement of understanding skills and communication skills in a camp-based English course for students in Mahesa Putri Camp in English Village. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of camp as an enhancer of understanding ability, and the role of camp as an acceleration of communication patterns. The research method used is descriptive qualitative which describes something objectively, based on data analysis conducted at the time of data collection and after data collection. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and documentation. In this study, the subjects of the study were managers, tutors and students at Mahesa Putri Camp English Village Pare, Kediri. From the results of the study, it was found that the students experienced an increase in understanding of learning and motivation from activities in the campThe importance of this research to provide and understanding of the existence of camp provides an acceleration in learning english.
