Teaching Reform and Research on Programmable Control Technology Course Based on Virtual Simulation Technology

Accompanied by the continuous development of the modern education model of the Internet, and at the same time, in order to cope with the cultivation needs of the new engineering applied talents, the teaching of the programmable control technology course is combined with and virtual simulation technology to carry out the corresponding theoretical teaching and experimental courses.It can not only present the abstract theoretical knowledge of the course and the control process vividly and concretely in the form of animation to stimulate students' learning motivation and interest, but also solve the experimental teaching problems such as shortage of experimental equipment resources and insufficient experimental space area. Teaching practice shows that the teaching reform has improved students' independent learning ability to a certain extent, cultivated students' independent thinking and engineering practice application ability, and provided a reference for the cultivation of applied talents under the background of new engineering discipline.

With the accelerated development of scientific and technological progress and industrial upgrading, Emerging Engineering Education has become the key to cultivate high-quality and innovative talents, and the teaching reform of the Soil Mechanics course, as a core basic course of civil engineering, is particularly important for adapting to the engineering needs of the new era. This paper discusses the teaching reform and practice of Soil Mechanics courses in the context of emerging engineering science, and puts forward the introduction of cutting-edge technology, updating course content, innovative teaching methods, the teaching quality of Soil Mechanics courses and the comprehensive quality of students, and other strategies, and seeks to promote the significant improvement of the quality of teaching and the quality of talents. Among them, the application of virtual reality and project-driven learning mode enhances students' practical ability and innovative thinking. The strengthening of practical teaching links and industry-university-research cooperation has enhanced the opportunities for students to participate in actual engineering projects, while the integration of Civic and Political Education has fostered students' professional ethics and sense of social responsibility. In the future, the course of Soil Mechanics will continue to adjust and optimise the teaching mode, cultivate high-quality civil engineering talents adapted to the needs of emerging engineering science, and provide powerful support for modern engineering construction.

Teaching Innovation Design and Practice Analysis in Chemical Engineering Principal Course

The Principle of Chemical Engineering is the core course of chemical engineering and technology, pharmaceutical engineering and other related majors, which occupies an important position in the engineering discipline. However, the complexity of the Principle of Chemical Engineering course itself and the tedious teaching content led to the problems of single teaching method, disconnection between theory and practice in the course teaching, which led to low interest of students and difficulty in effectively improving the teaching quality of the course. Starting from the existing problems in the teaching of the Principle of Chemical Engineering, this paper discusses the innovative design and practical countermeasures of the Principle of Chemical Engineering course from the aspects of transforming, adjusting and improving the teaching content, innovating the teaching methods, and improving the assessment and evaluation system, so as to provide references for the further development of the principles of chemical engineering course.

Discussion on the Integration of “Post, Course, Competition, Certificate”: Taking the Internet of Things Application Technology Courses in Higher Vocational Colleges as an Example

This article explores the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) application technology course in higher vocational colleges under the background of “post, course, competition, certificate.” It first emphasizes the importance of IoT talent training and course construction in higher vocational colleges and deeply analyzes the core concept of “post, course, competition, certificate” integration. In view of the problems faced in the course construction of IoT application technology in higher vocational colleges and the practical experience of Tianjin Vocational College of Mechanics and Electricity, the implementation strategy of the course construction of IoT application technology in higher vocational colleges is elaborated in detail based on the integrated concept of “post, course, competition, certificate.”

CNC Learning Innovation: Improving Students' Self-Efficacy and Creativity through Peer-PBL

The demand for increasingly diverse product designs and specifications in the manufacturing industry requires CNC machine operators to have high technical skills and strong self-efficacy and creativity. High self-efficacy allows operators to be more confident in applying their technical skills, while creativity helps them solve problems and challenges during the production process. This study aims to improve students' self-efficacy and creativity by applying the Peer-Project Based Learning (Peer-PjBL) model, which combines aspects of project-based learning with peer-to-peer learning. The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research (PTK), which consists of two implementation cycles. Each cycle involves planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 20 students who took the CNC Machining Technology course at Yogyakarta State University. Data were collected using a questionnaire that measured self-efficacy and student creativity indicators and then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that applying the Peer-PjBL method significantly increased students' self-efficacy and creativity in each research cycle. This improvement can be seen in students' ability to face new challenges independently, as well as their ability to generate diverse creative ideas in solving problems. This research makes an important contribution to the development of learning methods in vocational education by emphasizing the improvement of technical abilities and non-technical skills, such as self-efficacy and creativity, which are needed in the modern world of work.

Engagement Dynamics in Information Technology Education: A Comparative Analysis of Online vs. Face-to-Face Instruction

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether taking a course online or face-to-face matters in terms of student engagement and achievement. Gender differences were also examined. The level of student engagement in an information technology course in a freshman sample from a school of education was surveyed and compared in two consecutive years where the course was taught online in the first year and face-to-face in the second year. There were a total of 129 students, 62 in the online mode and 67 in the face-to-face mode. Data were collected using a survey that included a student engagement scale, as well as midterm and final exams. Non-parametric analyses were used due to data with non-normal distributions for some of the dependent variables, with the Mann-Whitney U test being the main form of analysis for group comparisons. Regarding gender, female students who received face-to-face instruction lost interest in the course toward the final exams, as evidenced by significantly lower engagement scores for both active learning and paying attention. The results show that online versus face-to-face delivery of the computer science course can be more efficient in terms of student engagement, and a similar performance score as in the face-to-face mode can be achieved with less effort to be present at school. In addition, it is evident that female students need more support for greater engagement when the mode of delivery must be face-to-face.

Exploration and Practice of Course Ideology and Politics Construction in Engineering Course of Application-oriented Universities

This paper analyzes the problems in the construction of course ideology and politics, uses information technology to enable the change of thinking mode, and explores the innovation research on the new carrier and new model. The concept of tree in computer science and technology is applied to the construction of course ideology and politics, based on that a standardized ideological and political case base is built and a closed-loop model is proposed. Through the integration design of the core value system and the entire process of education and teaching, the integrated development of professional construction and ideological and political education is realized.

The fabrication of electric motorcycle trainers to eliminate automotive misconceptions

This study aims to develop and implement learning media in the form of electric motorbike trainers to improve students' understanding of electric vehicle technology. The research method used is research and development (RD) with the Successive Approximation Model (SAM) approach, which is applied in the electric vehicle technology course curriculum in the Automotive Engineering Education study programme. The participants in this study were undergraduate students involved in the learning process using an electric motorbike trainer. The research instruments included observation, interviews, questionnaires, and practical assessment sheets. The results showed that the designed electric motorbike trainer can be used properly and is feasible to operate in the learning process if used in accordance with procedures. Based on the assessment of material experts and media experts, this learning media is considered feasible to implement in learning. A survey of 47 students showed that 63% of respondents strongly agreed that this electric motorbike trainer is an effective innovation in supporting learning. In conclusion, the development of this electric motorbike trainer not only enriches the learning experience but also has the potential to improve students' understanding of electric vehicle technology. This research contributes to providing innovative learning media that is relevant to today's technological needs and can be adopted more widely in various technical education institutions.

Generative AI, communication, and stereotypes: Learning critical AI literacy through experience, analysis, and reflection

This assignment is integrated into the generative AI unit of the Emerging Communication Technologies course. It includes step-by-step designs and reflective examples from students, highlighting the evolution of their perceptions of generative AI. The assignment uniquely focuses on understanding and raising awareness of stereotypes present in AI-generated images. Through experiential, analytical, and reflective learning, students build confidence and competence in interacting with various AI tools, acquire skills in AI–human communication and prompting, and develop critical thinking abilities to identify and mitigate stereotypes generated by AI. Objectives Through these activities, students will (1) reduce fear or discomfort about interacting with generative AI, (2) familiarize themselves with popular generative AI tools, (3) understand characteristics of human–AI interaction, (4) recognize AI fallibility in producing stereotypes, and (5) think critically about identifying and preventing AI-generated stereotypes.

Implementation of a visualization teaching approach for mechanical analysis in civil engineering structures

AbstractThe visualization method for mechanics knowledge in civil engineering courses is very important, which can help students learn abstract mechanics. Combined with the structural analysis software, this paper develops a visualization teaching approach for mechanical analysis in civil engineering structures based on the proposed deformation decomposition method, such as elastic mechanics, material mechanics and structural dynamics. Compared with traditional strain analysis method, the proposed method is more intuitive and can identify more macroscopic basic deformations. By aid of a survey for undergraduate students and master students, the teaching effectiveness of the visualization course is higher than that of the blackboard writing course. Besides, Mann–Whitney test results show that there is a significant difference. The proportion of undergraduate students that think the combination of visualization has good effects are greater than those of master students. The proposed visualization teaching approach can be promoted in mechanics courses of civil engineering.

THE IMPACT OF THE USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ON THE ACCOUNTING PROFESSION IN THE ACCOUNTING LABOR MARKET IN THE KURDISTAN REGION, A FIELD STUDY OF PROFESSIONALS IN COMPANIES AND ACADEMICS IN ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENTS IN ERBIL GOVERNORATE

This study aims to explore the impact of the use of information technology on the accounting profession in the labor market in the Kurdistan Region, with a special focus on the opinions of professionals working in companies and academics in accounting departments in Erbil Governorate. The main problem addressed by the study is based on the challenge that accounting education faces in keeping pace with rapid developments in information technology and integrating them effectively within educational programs. In light of the significant expansion of the use of technology in various areas of life, including accounting, the urgent need for university accounting departments to provide the necessary scientific and practical skills to students is highlighted, to qualify them to work in an advanced technological accounting environment. Accordingly, the basic hypothesis of the study was formulated: “Using technology Information in accounting education raises the academic and professional competence of students in accounting departments, enabling them to keep pace with the requirements of the contemporary labor market in the Kurdistan region. To achieve the objectives of the study and examine the hypothesis, the descriptive analytical approach was adopted, which is suitable for studying the relationship between the use of information technology in accounting education and the competence of graduates. The descriptive aspect includes the use of relevant scientific literature and references, while in the analytical aspect, data is collected through questionnaires directed to a sample of the study, and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program. The results highlight the importance of information technology in accounting and confirm the existence of a relationship There is a strong connection between the technological qualification of accountants and the actual reality of their profession in the region. Therefore, the study recommends the need to pay attention to continuously evaluating accounting educational programs and developing them to meet the changing needs of the labor market, including providing specialized training courses in information technology, modernizing the technological infrastructure, and enhancing cyber security for data. Accounting. These measures will contribute to improving the competence and skills of accounting graduates tobetter prepare them to face contemporary challenges in the accounting profession.

Learning Web for Brickwork Course at the Vocational College / Web Pembelajaran bagi Kursus Kerja Bata di Kolej Vokasional

The increasing demand for skilled workers in the construction industry underscores the importance of effective and modern education. Traditional approaches employed in teaching brickwork courses often face several challenges that impact the learning process. However, the use of academic modules resembling textbooks in the teaching and learning process (T&L) is seen as less suitable in meeting the challenges of the 21st-century curriculum changes. Moreover, the use of static and non-interactive modules leads to reduced student interest and attention because the T&L experienced is less engaging and makes it difficult for students to understand topics due to minimal sensory use. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the elements required in the development of a web-based learning platform for brickwork and the level of student understanding before and after learning using the web-based platform. The study design utilized was a quasi-experimental quantitative approach using pre and post-tests involving control and treatment groups. The instruments used were checklist forms and pre and post-tests. Respondents involved in this study consisted of experts in Educational Technology and first-year (semester 2) Malaysian Vocational Certificate (SVM) students from the Construction Technology course at a Vocational College. Data analysis in this study was descriptive and inferential statistics, including mean scores, frequency, Mann-Whitney U Test, and Wilcoxon T Test. The results showed a significant improvement in student performance after using the web-based learning platform for brickwork. Findings indicate that the development of the web-based learning platform in terms of interface display and interaction, content and instructional structure, and facilitation received high marks from experts. Essentially, the use of web-based learning for brickwork courses not only modernizes the educational approach but also optimizes accessibility, interactivity, and better prepares students for success in the construction industry.

An exploration of the relationship between active learning and student motivation in STEM: a mixed methods study.

Much of the research on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students' motivation measures the relationship between student motivation and academic outcomes, focusing on the student's mindset. Our mixed-methods research takes a different approach and considers the relationship between student motivation and instructional practices. Teaching practices and student motivation were analyzed simultaneously in undergraduate Biology classes using a self-determination theory-based survey to measure students' motivation during courses that were observed using the Classroom Observation Protocol for Undergraduate STEM (COPUS), and observation notes were collected to document instructor and student behaviors. Quantitative data were used to differentiate students' motivational levels, and qualitative data were collected to describe how instructors use specific teaching practices. The results provide a lens into how students' intrinsic motivation varies alongside the instructional practices and interactions in these classes. We found a correlation between higher levels of student motivation in interactive lectures and student-centered teaching profiles. This study highlights how the same practice can be implemented by multiple instructors with varying student motivation scores, pointing out the importance of fidelity to evidence-based instructional practice methods. The results of this study are discussed in the context of published empirical studies examining evidence-based instructional practices that are conceptually supportive of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Active learning practices observed in this study correlated to positive learning outcomes are discussed and may serve as a guide for instructors interested in implementing specific active learning practices. Recommendations for instructors and departments that are interested in flexible methods to monitor progress toward active learning practices in biology and other STEM disciplines by combining the COPUS and self-determination survey results are presented.NEW & NOTEWORTHY This study uses a novel combination of instruments to describe students' intrinsic motivation in response to teaching practices. Findings demonstrate that active learning methods may support higher student motivation. Recommendations drawn from the study include using a variety of active learning methods, using evidence-based instructional methods with fidelity, and monitoring the students' affective response to those methods. Alignment of active learning practices to the components of self-determination may result in higher quality student motivation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses.

Exploring fundamental engineering course instructors' test usage beliefs and behaviors: A multicase study

AbstractBackgroundTests are commonly and heavily used in fundamental engineering courses (FECs) to assess student learning of concepts. With existing literature presenting mixed benefits and disadvantages of testing to students' motivation to learn and documenting widely alternative assessments, the lack of questioning of heavy and common test usage must be addressed to diversify classroom assessment and promote intentionality in test usage.Purpose/HypothesisThis study begins to address the lack of questioning by exploring and uncovering test usage beliefs and behaviors of seven FEC instructors from two engineering departments in a land‐grant, public, Research 1 universityDesign/MethodGrounded in the Situated Expectancy–Value Theory (SEVT), we conducted a multicase study. Data include two interviews, course syllabi, and sample tests provided by the participants, and public documents from the institution and departments. We conducted a priori and emergent coding and thematic analysis to identify the beliefs and behaviors before developing individual case summaries for cross‐case analysis to identify groupings.ResultsThree test usage groups emerged: enthusiastic, default, and questioning. All test usage groups featured tests heavily in their FECs, resulting in varying alignment between these participants' test usage beliefs and behaviors.ConclusionsOur findings reveal the various factors that can shape FEC instructors' test usage beliefs and behaviors, and the complexity in terms of alignment. This work lays important implications, including laying the foundations for future scholarship on testing in engineering education research and leveraging findings to begin efforts in diversifying assessment approaches and promoting intentional test usage in FECs.

Examining the Effects of Peer-Led Team Learning as a Support for Community College Transfer Students’ STEM Achievement

Peer-led Team Learning (PLTL) is a model of instruction and learning that has been used to address low success rates in various science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses and other fields in higher education. (1) While research conveying the efficacy of this model of instruction remains mixed, this project sought to add to the body of knowledge communicating the benefits of PLTL for STEM achievement. This study examined the experiences of STEM community college transfer students’ engagement in PLTL within their major course of study when a suite of supports was provided. (2) Specifically, study participants were enrolled in degree programs at a four-year rural, regional university in the engineering, computer science, and mathematics (ECSM) fields and were provided social, financial, and academic assistance. Qualitative analysis of the data revealed that with a PLTL component, community college transfer students were more likely to participate, engage, and perform better in coursework given the additional supports. (3) Study participants indicated the community of learners created through PLTL was a primary motivator for continued engagement and progress towards ECSM degree attainment. (4) Implications for practice extend to engagement and retention efforts of STEM students from the community college population
