Application research on big data in energy conservation and emission reduction of transportation industry

In the context of big data age, the energy conservation and emission reduction of transportation is a natural big data industry. The planning, management, decision-making of energy conservation and emission reduction of transportation and other aspects should be supported by the analysis and forecasting of large amounts of data. Now, with the development of information technology, such as intelligent city, sensor road and so on, information collection technology in the direction of the Internet of things gradually become popular. The 3G/4G network transmission technology develop rapidly, and a large number of energy conservation and emission reduction of transportation data is growing into a series with different ways. The government not only should be able to make good use of big data to solve the problem of energy conservation and emission reduction of transportation, but also to explore and use a large amount of data behind the hidden value. Based on the analysis of the basic characteristics and application technology of energy conservation and emission reduction of transportation data, this paper carries out its application research in energy conservation and emission reduction of transportation industry, so as to provide theoretical basis and reference value for low carbon management.

Thermal environment analysis and energy conservation research of rural residence in cold regions of China based on BIM platform

In order to study the issue of rural residential energy consumption in cold regions of China, modeled an architecture prototype based on BIM platform according to the affecting factors of rural residential thermal environment, and imported the virtual model which contains building information into energy analysis tools and chose the appropriate building orientation. By analyzing the energy consumption of the residential buildings with different enclosure structure forms, we designed the optimal energy-saving residence form. There is a certain application value of this method for researching the energy consumption and energy-saving design for the rural residence in cold regions of China.

Spatiotemporal analysis and visualization of power consumption data integrated with building information models for energy savings

Using a visualization engine to display the analyze results of power consumption data in a building can provide immediate and informative feedback for energy conservation research. Previous research has demonstrated that change of residents’ behavior can facilitate achieving the net-zero energy goal for a building. This research proposed a system called iARTS (interactive Augmented Reality system for Temporal and Spatial analysis of power consumption data integrated with building information models) that was designed to: (1) integrate building information model data into power consumption data sets in order to visualize the analysis results in Unity, which is a visualization engine originally designed for game development; (2) perform a spatiotemporal analysis mechanism to help residents realize an energy-saving tip, by identifying the appliances to be turned off; (3) perform another spatiotemporal analysis mechanism to identify the appliances that can be used jointly in order to consume all the solar PV-generated electricity at a maximum; (4) provide residents with query forms, scenes retrieval functions, and animations to educate residents as to where and when to implement the aforementioned energy-saving tips. With the use of iARTS, the temporal relationships between power sockets and appliances can be accurately described along with timestamped power consumption data. Residents are expected to be able to identify the electricity usage patterns that are wasteful, as well as to see any potential adjustment plan for using as much generated electricity as possible.

Bound by ethical complexities and socio-material histories: an exploration of household energy consumption in Singapore

Households are increasingly subject to environmental regulation and intervention in today’s carbon-constrained world. Highlighting cross- disciplinary synergies between practice theory and material geographies, I illuminate the lived complexities of everyday energy-use in Singapore. Based on an ethnographic study of 8 households, it is apparent that energy practices are sustained and reproduced through the subjectivities of materialities, practical ethics, socialised rules and histories, embedded withinin the spatio-temporalities of the actually-existing household. For energy conservation policy and research, these findings suggest non- engagement with the complexities of household energy-use. By promoting a single normative vision of ‘Green’ energy practices, energy conservation initiatives risk alienating people with practices that do not resonate with household dynamics as they are lived. Instead, an enagement of ‘practices’ instead of ‘behavior’ opens up a more expansive field for research and policy engagement in the dynamic and path dependent processes of social normality, and more effective means of encouraging more sustainable ways of living.

Energy Usage Behavior Modeling in Energy Disaggregation via Marked Hawkes Process

Energy disaggregation, the task of taking a whole home electricity signal and decomposing it into its component appliances, has been proved to be essential in energy conservation research. One powerful cue for breaking down the entire household's energy consumption is user's daily energy usage behavior, which has so far received little attention: existing works on energy disaggregation mostly ignored the relationship between the energy usages of various appliances across different time slots. To model such relationship, we combine topic models with Hawkes processes, and propose a novel probabilistic model based on marked Hawkes process that enables the modeling of marked event data. The proposed model seeks to capture the influence from the occurrence and the marks of one usage event to the occurrence and the marks of subsequent usage events in the future. We also develop an inference algorithm based on variational inference for model parameter estimation. Experimental results on both synthetic data and three real world data sets demonstrate the effectiveness of our model, which outperforms state-of-the-art approaches in decomposing the entire consumed energy to each appliance. Analyzing the influence captured by the proposed model provides further insights into numerous interesting energy usage behavior patterns.

BIM-enabled Power Consumption Data Management Platform for Rendering and Analysis of Energy Usage Patterns

Using a visualization engine to analyze power meter generated data about energy consumption of a building can provide immediate and informative feedback for energy conservation research. This paper proposed a platform, real-time replay system (RTRS), to provide such a visualized and interactive environment through the Unity 3d game engine. RTRS combines two data sources: Revit, a building information model (BIM) tool, and WiFi power socket sensors into Unity 3d and replays electricity usage events. RTRS users can easily change the scene or jump to the given time frame identified as a wasteful operation, and the system will display potential energy conservation suggestions. In addition, RTRS users can set up event triggering parameters or query conditions against the sensor database inside RTRS. In overall, RTRS can provide an intuitive and easy-to-use platform for managing electricity usage data of a building, reducing the time and efforts for looking up information at the raw data level.

In this paper, the Unicom's medium-sized IDC room in a city of northern China is the research object for the study. Based on field research of the room refrigeration conditions, data center room air conditioning system is carried out to optimize and for energy conservation research. Through the analytic methods of energy saving-technology, the best energy saving solutions is explored.

Iron Ore Grinding Energy Conservation Research Based on Neural Network

This article briefly introduces the iron ore grinding classification process and analyzes the distribution of mining energy consumption. To realize the energy conservation of the mill by using genetic BP neural network, we make MATLAB simulation test. It shows feasibility and superiority of the control scheme, which has some meaning for energy conservation and reducing consumption of iron mine.

Energy consumption is in support of economic development, at the same time it also results in the pollution of the environment inevitably. With the increasing of contradiction of energy supply and demand, and the serious pollution of the environment, it restricts the development of economy. In order to achieve the “Twelfth Five-Year energy planning” target, we must control the energy consumption, to implement energy-saving and emission reduction measures .Based on Chinese energy consumption status, this paper focuses on the Beijing’s energy consumption, analyzes energy consumption influences factors and the relationships among them. At the same time, this paper abstracts the model of economic and environmental on the energy consumption for the complicated relationship. Also it establishes a comprehensive multidimensional Beijing city energy consumption policy simulation and control model, pro-vides energy consumption analysis and regulation of different level and the angle respectively, covers major regulation and control means in relation to the energy consumption. On the basis of analysis of influence factors, we do the mathematical simulation and prediction between them. The results show that the prediction value is very good, the error is small. Therefore, this conclusion proves that our energy consumption control of construction model is scientific.

The Freeway Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Guarantee System Research

This paper uses the latest highway design theory and method of energy conservation and emission reduction to elaborate the freeway energy conservation and emission reduction. According to this, we protocol detailed freeway energy management organization settings, staffing and framework. Then we introduce the concept of energy conservation and emission reduction and promote the application new technology, materials and equipment in the freeway design and construction stages, so as to establish a more comprehensive freeway energy conservation and emission reduction technology guarantee system, it also provides the policy guarantee in order to further the effective containment of the rising road transport energy consumption. This paper conducts a comprehensive analysis and discussion on the guarantee system of energy conservation and emission reduction through the two aspects.

The Energy Conservation Research of the Environment Chamber Based on the Total Heat Exchanger

A troublesome legacy: The Reagan Administration's conservation and renewable energy policy

The Reagan Administration drastically cut funding for the Department of Energy's (DOE) research and development programmes in energy conservation and renewable energy (CORE). While maintaining support for fossil and nuclear energy, the Administration argued that government intervention destabilized the energy market and that free market forces should determine the national energy mix. CORE technologies are economically viable, environmentally benign and strategically secure. The Reagan Administration's dismissal of these technologies indicates that political factors — such as ideological biases and political favouritism — overrode prudent economic, environmental and strategic analysis. As a result, the Administration has delayed the transition to an energy mix more inclusive of CORE technologies.

Advantages and limits of longitudinal evaluation research in energy conservation

Evaluations of conservation programs tend to be single snap-shots of program effects, usually taken soon after a program begins. The resulting picture may miss the delayed effects of the program, or it may overestimate the long-term impacts. The evaluation described in this paper follows the research cohorts for 4 years, and, as a case study, it provides ideas on both advantages and limitations to a longitudinal approach. Suggestions are offered for improving the usefulness of this type of program evaluation.

The potential economic benefits of energy conservation research

We have examined the value to society, in terms of potential economic benefit, of successful completion of energy conservation research. The results of the analysis indicate that energy conservation research can be judged on the same basis as energy supply technologies and show very favorably. Based on life-cycle analysis using a 3% real discount rate, we found that conservation research in buildings, transportation, and industrial sectors could result in a net savings, between 1991 and 2020, of $1.6 trillion. If a ten-fold return in research dollars invested were required, the nation could justify spending more than $25 billion per year between now and 1990 to achieve those savings, although the needed investment is almost certainly less than this amount. The essential message is that conservation research promises large returns and is an investment that the nation cannot afford not to make.

Energy Conservation Research of California's Utilities

More than 200 evaluations of energy conservation programs conducted by California's four major utilities between 1977-1980 were reviewed and critiqued. In general, the evaluations were conducted in the marketing research tradition, were formative (rather than summative), and were dominated by nonexperimental surveys. Major threats to validity included:failure to consider secular economic and attitudinal trends, inadequate prior explication of key constructs, lack of random assignment, lack of appropriate comparison groups, overreliance on attitudes and self-reported behaviors as indices of conservation, and multiple unprotected statistical comparisons. Alternative evaluation techniques designed to reduce validity threats are presented, and a sample of the utilities' more recent work is assessed.

INTERGOVERNMENTAL ROLES IN LOCAL ENERGY CONSERVATION: A RESEARCH FRONTIER

This article examines a frontier research area: local energy conservation and intergovernmental relations. The vast potential for financial and energy savings by local governments through energy conservation is contrasted to a significant lack of meaningful programs by reviewing current local programs through examination of research efforts, intergovernmental trends in assistance and the legal foundation for local energy roles. Several items for the energy conservation research agenda are offered, especially a call for more research on the relationship between rising energy prices and development of energy programs. Other research foci are the impacts of intergovernmental technical assistance, organizational structures for incorporating energy conservation concerns into local government, state‐local program coordination, citizen demand for conservation programs and the information dissemination networks in energy policy.

Energy conservation policy in the united states and Sweden: Comparing research and development responses

This study assesses the comparability of public sector responses to energy conservation research and development (R&D) in the United states and Sweden. Using the evaluative criteria of policy objectives, organizational structure, and funding, the extent to which the institutional context for R&D either constrains or fosters conservation as an element of each nation's energy policies is examined. Sweden, unlike the United States, appears to have been successful in achievement consensus primarily through an open, deliberative process of mutual partisan adjustment regarding where specific allocations should be made in the energy R&D budget for optimal conservation results. To a great extent, it is within these differing institutional contexts of policy uncertainly that the content of specific energy conservation policies and strategies should be evaluated.

Welcome to the Energy Crisis

The author provides an overview of several articles on the impact of the energy crisis which examine key ideas, emerging theories, findings, and methodologies that are guiding current social research. The articles deal with energy policy and how energy conservation fits into national policy, the social psychological context for energy conservation research on behavior and attitudes, and how to facilitate the adoption of conservation measures that increase the efficiency of energy use. The papers review psychological theory on the adoption of innovations, and offer modifications and extensions that tailor it to fit the adoption of energy-conserving innovations. 7 references.

Energy Dilemmas in Asia: The Needs for Research and Development

Outside of China, the countries of southern and eastern Asia contain 30 percent of the world's population but only 2 percent of the known fossil fuel resources. Economic growth has resulted in increasing imports of petroleum and petroleum products. Because of the tenfold rise in oil prices since 1972, several of these countries are faced with two dilemmas-one short range and one long range. Unless they can discover more fossil fuel resources within their own borders, they must either incur dangerously growing foreign exchange deficits or drastically slow their economic growth. Research and development in energy production, conversion, and conservation should eventually allow local energy sources, of which the most promising is biomass energy, to be substituted for imported fuels. But diverting scarce land and water to plantations of fast-growing trees or other kinds of biomass may seriously limit food production in these crowded countries.
