Fecundity and egg diameter of endemic fish (Telmatherina bonti Weber and De Beaufort, 1922) from Towuti Lake, South Sulawesi, Indonesia

Lake Towuti are an ancient lake and an oligotrophic lake. The lake is a habitat for endemic fish species such as bonti-boni fish (Telamatherina bonti). These fish are of important economic value. The purpose of this study was to analyze fecundity and egg diameter of T. bonti in Towuti Lake. The research was conducted at Towuti Lake from January to December 2019. The Samples were collected using seser and it was separated between male and female based on morphological characteristics of the body and gonads. Gonads were preserved in fomaldehyde 4%. The absolute fecundity ranged from 442-1435 eggs. The relationship of fecundity with body weight was greater than the relationship of fecundity with total length. The diameter of the eggs inside the gonads varies. The type of T. bonti spawning was categoried of partial spawner.

Selecting areas with rare and restricted fish species in mountain streams of Southern Brazil

Abstract The delimitation of conservation units may be supported by information on compositional (taxonomic), functional, and phylogenetic diversity of a given locality or region. In this context, systematic conservation planning and key biodiversity areas are promising approaches for biodiversity protection. Factors such as species representativeness and exclusivity may be used to identify geographical distribution patterns and select relevant areas for conservation at a local scale. This study aims to identify areas with rare and restricted fish species in mountain streams in Southern Brazil, using a method that unites ecological and biogeographical approaches. Seven river basins and 152 mountain streams in Southern Brazil were sampled to obtain data on the occurrence and abundance of 115 fish species. The rarity status of each species was determined and endemicity analysis was used to find areas of restricted species (ARS) with three cell sizes. Using larger cells, continuous areas were identified and supported by a higher proportion of rare fish species. Using smaller cells, discontinuous areas were identified within each of the river basins, where rare and endemic fish species occur. Most of the smaller areas relevant for protecting fish fauna were located outside of conservation units. Fundamental areas were selected for the protection of fish species in mountain streams in Southern Brazil. Both the method proposed and the areas with rare and restricted fish species identified may be used to support systematic conservation planning and to delimit new priority areas for conservation.

The development of adapted marmorated medaka Oryzias marmoratus (Aurich, 1935) at ex-situ habitat

Marmorated Medaka (Oryzias marmoratus) is a small endemic fish species of Malili Lakes, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The fish is a valuable commodity as an ornamental fish. However, their population in wild is threatened with extinction and has been categorized as vulnerable by IUCN. An effort to conserve O. marmoratus by ex-situ breeding is necessary for its sustainability. Research Center for Limnology-LIPI has succeeded to take the fish from Lake Towuti and adapted them in an ex-situ habitat (laboratory) (2017–2018). Research on the development to adapt O. marmoratus outside their natural habitat has been conducted in 2019-2020. The sex ratio of male: female was 1:2 (1:2.223±0.638). During mass spawning, the fish was able to reproduce seven times in 37 days which the dark moon phase. Egg diameter (mm) was 1.193±0.017. Reproduction viability was very good. Fertilization and hatching rates were 100% and 98.149±3.347%, respectively. Length of Incubation Period (LIP) (days) was 7.286±1.329, and the larva size (mm) was 3.3±0.483. Survival Rate on seven days (SR7) was 97.02112±5.510 % with larva size of 5.5±0.707. Juvenile size (mm) at 16 weeks was 33.6±5.661 (26–42). Oryzias marmoratus can be developed in ex-situ habitats and still needs further research.

Novel and known myxobolids (Cnidaria, Myxozoa) infecting Chondrostoma angorense (Cypriniformes: Leuciscidae) in Turkey.

Turkey has more than 200 endemic freshwater fish species, one of which is the Ankara nase, Chondrostoma angorense Elvira, 1987 (Cypriniformes: Leuciscidae), a food fish in northern Turkey. Like most endemic fish species in Turkey, its myxosporean parasite fauna (Cnidaria: Myxosporea) are not yet described. We surveyed twenty C. angorense from Lâdik Lake in northern Turkey, and identified two myxosporean parasites from gills of these fish: Myxobolus arrabonensis Cech, Borzák, Molnár, Székely, 2015, and a co-infection of a novel species, Myxobolus polati sp. nov. We characterized both infections based on myxospore morphology, morphometry, tissue tropism, small subunit ribosomal DNA sequence and phylogenetic analysis. Plasmodia of both species were observed in gills, but had distinct tropism: M. arrabonensis is an intrafilamental vascular type, and M. polati sp. nov. is an intralamellar vascular type. We identified M. arrabonensis on the basis of myxospore characters and 100% similarity to the type DNA sequence from the closely-related host C. nasus. The small subunit ribosomal DNA sequence of M. polati sp. nov. (1946 base pairs; GenBank Accession number MH392318) had a maximum similarity of 98% with any Myxobolus sp. from other Eurasian cypriniforms. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that M. polati sp. nov. is most closely related to gill-infecting Myxobolus diversicapsularis from Rutilus rutilus (L.). The present study is the first record of myxosporean species infecting C. angorense comprising a novel species, M. polati sp. nov. and a known species M. arrabonensis.

Diversity studies of freshwater goby species from three rivers ecosystem in Luwuk Banggai, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia

Inland public water areas which include freshwater lakes and several rivers in Sulawesi Island have native and endemic fish species which potential as ornamental fish. One of them is a member of Gobiidae. Several studies have reported the species of freshwater goby in Central Sulawesi Province. However, the information is still lacking, especially in the Luwuk Banggai, Central Sulawesi. Therefore, research is needed to examine the diversity of gobies in this area. Observations were conducted in three rivers (Salodik, Kintom, and Simpong). The results of fish inventory in the three Luwuk Banggai rivers obtained 131 fish specimens, namely 26 specimens from the Salodik river, 29 specimens from the Kintom river, and 76 specimens from the Simpong river. The Simpong River has the highest Shannon-Wiener index (H’) followed by the Kintom and Salodik rivers, which are 2.6313, 2.0114, and 1.3656, respectively. Similarity analysis of the three rivers produced 2 clusters. The Salodik River in fish diversity shows differences with the other two rivers, while the Simpong and Kintom rivers are in one cluster. Further research is needed related to the biodiversity of gobies and their relationship to habitat characteristics and river water quality in the Luwuk Banggai.

Non‐native freshwater fish species in the Yellow River Basin: origin, distribution and potential risk

Invasions of non-native fishes are recognized as a serious threat to freshwater biodiversity across the globe. Being the China’s second-largest river, the Yellow River has experienced severe invasion pressure of non-native fishes during recent decades. However, much less is known about species composition and distribution of non-native fishes in this river basin. Here, we investigated and summarized the literatures about non-native freshwater fish in the Yellow River Basin (YRB), to examine their taxonomic diversity, geographical origin, longitudinal distribution and potential risk. We found that 40 non-native fish species, belonging to 9 orders, 18 families and 35 genera, have invaded the YRB. Of which 19 exotic species came from other regions, while 21 translocated species were introduced into the upstream from midstream and downstream of the YRB. The aquaculture was the main vectors responsible for non-native fish introductions. An average of 8.24 non-native fish species was introduced and established per sub-region, accounting for 25.5 % of total fish species. The percentage of non-native species showed a significant unimodal model against average elevation, with the highest values (ca. 70 %) in upstream mainstream reaches and tributaries. Non-native species from historically absent or species-poor orders (Salmoniformes, Osmeriformes and Perciformes) were the most successful invaders. Furthermore, the species composition of non-native fishes changed markedly along the longitudinal gradient (i.e., from source region to downstream). The negative impacts of non-native fish introductions to native fish species, e.g., competition for resource, predation and hybridization were emerged in many introduce regions and could get worse in the future due to global warming and human activities. This study can help improve the management of non-native fish introductions and biodiversity conservation of native and endemic fish species in the YRB.

Ecological niche modelling of endemic fish within La Paz Bay: Implications for conservation

Endemic marine species are useful in determining and evaluating areas for conservation. Particularly Warm Temperate Province of the Northeast Pacific (WTPNP) includes priority conservation areas, but records of endemic marine species are limited, their distributions remains generally unknown, and often excluded in extant conservation plans. Within the WTPNP, the Balandra Protected Natural Area (BPNA) is located within La Paz Bay, and it is the only management area with a developed plan. However, marine endemic fish species have not been fully considering, and their protection status requires a re-evaluation, particularly the distribution of species with adequate spatial resolution. Despite the scarce information on marine endemic fishes, ecological niche modelling allows predicting distribution areas through occurrences of the species and their relationship with a set of scenopoetic environmental variables. The abiotically suitable areas based of the endemic marine fish species within the WTPNP documented within the Bay of La Paz were modeled and the high-value areas for conservation were established through a multi-species models; these spatial patterns of suitable areas were contrasted with the current state of fish protection. Modelling was performed with the Maxent software supplied with presence-only data of 18 species and four sets of environmental layers related to the geomorphology and bottom sedimentology, as well as the Euclidean distance measures from mangrove and rocky shore habitats. We generated sixteen distribution models that revealed that only 8.4 % of the predicted area, on average, was located within a maximum state of protection within the BPNA core zone. Moreover, the generated multi-species model reveals that only 17 % of the high-value areas (≥ 9 species/hectare) were located in the core zone. These high-value areas indicate updating the current management program is required. Finally, the study illustrates how the predicted-areas can be linked to conservation strategies in the marine habitat space within and outside the BPNA.

The length-weight relationships and condition factor of an endemic Marosatherina ladigesi Ahl, 1936 in Walanae Cenranae River Watershed, South Sulawesi, Indonesia

Marosatherina ladigesi is an endemic fish species in South Sulawesi and is famous as ornamental fish. However, the biological information of this species is still restricted. This research direct analyzes the length-weight relationships and condition factors of M. ladigesi. Sampling was held monthly from May 2018 to April 2019 in the Walanae Cenranae River Watershed, South Sulawesi. Fish samples were assembled by seine net. A total of 550 M. ladigesi were collected consisted of 227 fish in Camba River, 88 fish in Sanrego River, and 235 fish in Batu Puteh River. The length-weight relationship of male and female fish was W = 0,0002L2,74 and W = 0,00004L3,23 in Camba River, W = 0,0001L2,78 and W = 0,0001L2,92 in Sanrego River, W = 0,0001L2,88 and W = 0,00006L3,12 in Batu Puteh River, respectively. In Camba and Batu Puteh Rivers, the growth pattern of male and female fish were negative allometric and positive allometric, respectively. Conversely, the growth patterns of male and female fish in the Sanrego River were isometric. The condition factor fish in Sanrego River was lower than Camba and Batu Puteh River. These findings are valuable data for establishing a monitoring and conservation of this endemic species in its habitat.

A Combined Approach of Principal Component Analysis and Support Vector Machine for Early Development Phase Modeling of Ohrid Trout (Salmo Letnica)

Ohrid trout (Salamo letnica) is an endemic species of fish found in Lake Ohrid in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). The growth of Ohrid trout was examined in a controlled environment for a certain period, thereafter released into the lake to grow their natural population. The external features of the fish were measured regularly during the cultivation period in the laboratory to monitor their growth. The data mining methods-based computational model can be used for fast, accurate, reliable, automatic, and improved growth monitoring procedures and classification of Ohrid trout. With this motivation, a combined approach of principal component analysis (PCA) and support vector machine (SVM) has been implemented for the visual discrimination and quantitative classification of Ohrid trout of the experimental and natural breeding and their growth stages. The PCA results in better discrimination of breeding categories of Ohrid trout at different development phases while the maximum classification accuracy of 98.33% was achieved using the combination of PCA and SVM. The classification performance of the combination of PCA and SVM has been compared to combinations of PCA and other classification methods (multilayer perceptron, naïve Bayes, random committee, decision stump, random forest, and random tree). Besides, the classification accuracy of multilayer perceptron using the original features has been studied.

Genome and population evolution and environmental adaptation of Glyptosternon maculatum on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Persistent uplift means the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) is an ideal natural laboratory to investigate genome evolution and adaptation within highland environments. However, how paleogeographic and paleoclimatic events influence the genome and population of endemic fish species remains unclear. Glyptosternon maculatum is an ancient endemic fish found on the QTP and the only critically endangered species in the Sisoridae family. Here, we found that major transposons in the G. maculatum genome showed episodic bursts, consistent with contemporaneous geological and climatic events during the QTP formation. Notably, histone genes showed significant expansion in the G. maculatum genome, which may be mediated by long interspersed nuclear elements (LINE) repetitive element duplications. Population analysis showed that ancestral G. maculatum populations experienced two significant depressions 2.6 million years ago (Mya) and 10 000 years ago, exhibiting excellent synchronization with Quaternary glaciation and the Younger Dryas, respectively. Thus, we propose that paleogeography and paleoclimate were dominating driving forces for population dynamics in endemic fish on the QTP. Tectonic movements and temperature fluctuation likely destroyed the habitat and disrupted the drainage connectivity among populations. These factors may have caused severe bottlenecks and limited migration among ancestral G. maculatum populations, resulting in the low genetic diversity and endangered status of the species today.

Increasing Public Awareness Of Embung Biting Sustainability In Sukorame Village, Sukorejo-Pasuruan Through Introduction Of Good And Environmentally Friendly Aquaculture

Embung Biting is a native habitat for freshwater fish for Cyprinidae, tilapia, catfish and other endemic fish species. Abundant of natural biological resources including supply of embung water from water sources are very important for meeting the community's water needs. In order to preserve the biological resources of ponds and as a source of fish nutrition for the people of Sukorame Village, it is necessary to be given an understanding to preserve the embung through the introduction of good and environmentally friendly methods of fish farming. This activity has been able to provide an understanding to the community of the importance of sustainability of the embung which is seen in the enthusiasm of the participants and the motivation of the participants to improve entrepreneurial skills in the field of fish farming as alternative livelihoods.

Biological Aspect of Betta raja of Wild Type at Bandar Tinggi Village

Betta raja is endemic wild Betta fish whose habitat is found in Sumatera Island. One of the habitat found in Desa Bandar Tinggi, Kecamatan Bilah Hulu, Kabupaten Labuhanbatu. Population B. raja is increasingly diminished due to illegal logging and land conversion. The purpose of this research is to know the biological aspects of Lakepe fish (B. raja) in their natural habitat in Bandar Tinggi Village, Labuhan Batu Regency. Monitoring of biological aspects of B. raja in its original habitat needs to be. Considering B. raja as the biological wealth of endemic fish species that needs to be preserved. Methodology: The study uses exploratory methods with the determination of purposive sampling observation stations. Samples of fish captured using a fishing rod. The results of the study showed the value of b < 3, then the pattern of fish growth is negative allometric, the population density of average fish is 0.33 – 0.40 Ind/m², and and sex ratio of females and males (1:1 )

Length‐weight relationships for seven endemic fish species from streams of the last two large remaining dam‐free tributaries of the Upper Paraná River Floodplain in the Paraná State, Brazil

This study reports the length-weight relationships (LWR) for seven endemic fish species from streams in the Ivaí (Characidium heirmostigmata, Corydoras lacrimostigmata, Curculionichthys oliveirai, Hisonotus pachysarkos, and Cambeva horacioi) and Ivaí and Piquiri (Apareiodon vladii and Planaltina kaingang) River basins, Paraná State, Brazil. Fish specimens measured and weighed were collected between November 1994 and July 2019, fixed with 10% formalin, and are preserved in 70% alcohol. Measurements were done for standard length (SL—0.1 cm precision) and total weight (TW—0.01 g precision). All coefficient of allometry obtained is within the general range for fishes representing useful tentatives for LWR parameters. We highlight the importance of information about the biology of the endemic fish species in a crucial area for the biodiversity conservation of the Upper Paraná River system.

Understanding seasonal migration of Shishamo smelt in coastal regions using environmental DNA.

Migratory organisms have their own life histories that efficiently link multiple ecosystems. Therefore, comprehensive understanding of migration ecologies of these organisms is essential for both species conservation and ecosystem management. However, monitoring migration at fine spatiotemporal scales, especially in open marine systems, often requires huge costs and effort. Recently, environmental DNA (eDNA) techniques that utilize DNA released from living organisms into their environment became available for monitoring wild animals without direct handling. In this study, we conducted an eDNA survey for understanding marine migration of an endemic fish species, Shishamo smelt (Spirinchus lanceolatus). We examined 1) seasonal habitat changes in coastal regions and 2) environmental factors potentially driving the migration of this species. The eDNA concentrations along a 100 km-long coastline exhibited spatiotemporal variation, suggesting that this species shifts their habitat away from nearshore areas between spring and summer. We also found a significantly negative association between the eDNA concentration and sea surface temperature. That finding suggests that the offshore migration of this species is associated with increased sea surface temperature. This study reveals new aspects of S. lanceolatus life history in coastal regions. Together with our previous eDNA study on the freshwater migration of S. lanceolatus, this study illustrates the potential of eDNA techniques for understanding the whole life history of this migratory species.

Characterization of two complete mitochondrial genomes of Pterocryptis anomala (Siluridae) and its phylogeny and cryptic diversity

Pterocryptis anomala (Siluridae) is an endemic fish species that is distributed in the drainage basins of Southern China. In this study, we reported the complete mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of two P. anomala specimens from different rivers using next-generation sequencing. The gene composition and the structural arrangement of the mitogenomes were similar to those of most other teleosts, although we examined a longer length of control region in these mitogenomes than that in most of published Siluridae mitogenomes. Phylogenetic analyses combining our novel sequences with published mitogenomes and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) sequences indicated the monophyly of Pterocryptis and a sister relationship between species P. anomala and P. cochinchinensis. However, the monophyly of Pterocryptis was not very robust as a limited number of species were included in our analyses. Additionally, we uncovered that a hidden diversity might occur in P. anomala populations. The likely causes for this cryptic diversity might be the geologic movements of intense uplift of the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau and evolution of Asian monsoons, as well as low vagility of P. anomala. Our results yielded crucially important insights into the genetic resources, phylogeny and diversity of this endemic species.

Development of new fish-based indices of biotic integrity for estimating the effects of cascade reservoirs on fish assemblages in the upper Yangtze River, China

In recent decades, dams worldwide are increasingly being constructed in a row along a single river or basin, thus forming reservoir cascades, and in turn producing cumulative ecological effects along these reservoir cascades. Use of multimetric indices (MMI) based on fish assemblages to assess the ecological health status of rivers and lakes have also been developed extensively. However, there are no studies using MMI for identifying the cumulative effects of reservoir cascades. The aim of this study was to develop a new fish-based index of biotic integrity (F-IBI) that can effectively identify the cumulative effects of reservoir cascades on fish assemblages in two important habitats (the free-flowing reach between reservoirs and the transition zone in the reservoir). Fish assemblages from 14 sites were sampled along the cascade reservoirs in the upper Yangtze River, China. First, through screening for redundancy, precision, and responsiveness of the candidate metrics, a new F-IBI based on ecological trait information of fish species composition was developed to estimate the ecological status of all sites. F-IBI scores exhibited an obviously downward trend from upstream to downstream in a reservoir cascade, and the transition zones in the reservoir displayed significantly lower F-IBI scores than the free-flowing reaches between reservoirs. Secondly, using random forest models, it was shown that the F-IBI can effectively identify the cumulative effects of the reservoir cascades on fish assemblages. Furthermore, we also demonstrated metric-specific responses to different stressors, particularly the multiple reservoir cascades, which showed: 1) endemic fish species, as well as rheophilic, zoobenthivore and phytobenthivore fish species, are easily affected by reservoir cascades, and 2) the longitudinal position of cascade reservoirs and the proximity of the downstream reservoir and upstream dam have very important effects on fish species composition. It was suggested that targeted fish conservation with the integration of habitat and biotic information should be given more attention in the free-flowing reaches between reservoirs.

Vulnerability and Decision-Making in Multispecies Fisheries: A Risk Assessment of Bacalao (Mycteroperca olfax) and Related Species in the Galapagos’ Handline Fishery

Marine fish populations can be vulnerable to overfishing, as a response of their life history, ecology, and socio-economic aspects. Vulnerability assessments, in this regard, can be used to support fisheries decision-making by aiding species prioritization. Assessments like Productivity–Susceptibility Analyses are well suited for multispecies fisheries, with low gear selectivity and insufficient fishery-independent and dependent data. Using this method, we assessed local vulnerability of the Galapagos grouper (‘bacalao’; Mycteroperca olfax) and compared it with other phylogenetically-related species caught in the Galapagos’ handline-fishery. Bacalao is an overfished regionally endemic fish species, characterized by low resilience, high market and cultural value and high spatial overlap with the fishery. Our results suggested that bacalao is a species of high management priority, requiring urgent measures to prevent fisheries’ collapse. In addition, if current fishing pressure persists, other related species may become threatened in the near future. We also evaluated different management scenarios using this approach. Results suggested that the inclusion of additional no-take zones in the marine reserve, comprising key nursery habitats (such as mangroves) and spawning aggregation sites, would be necessary to reduce species vulnerability and to benefit other related species. Improving enforcement and fishers’ compliance are essential to guarantee the effectiveness of these measures.

Phylogenetic analysis of three endogenous species of fish from Saudi Arabia verified that Cyprinion acinaes hijazi is a sub-species of Cyprinion acinaces acinases

Cyprinion acinaces are ray-finned fish belongs to genus Cyprinion. Previous studies have reported that this species has two subspecies, Cyprinion acinaces acinaces, and, Cyprinion acinaes hijazi, however, the validity of later was always in doubt. In past, this fishes were classified merely based on morphological characteristics, and modern biotechnology related tools were never used, which would had been helpful, to authenticate the subspecies status between closely related species. This is the first study to report the classification of the major endemic fish species of Saudi Arabia based on phylogenetic analysis. The cytochrome b gene sequences of Cyprinion acinaces acinases, and Carasobarbus aponesis were determined for the first time, and were deposited in public Gene data Bank. The phylogenetic tree clearly grouped the species into two major clusters, which are divided into four sub-clusters. The phylogenetic analysis supports the early taxonomic classification and validated that C. acinaes hijazi is a subspecies of C. acinaces acinaces. The phylogenetic tree constructed from the cytochrome b sequence also indicated that B. aponesis found in Saudi Arabia is genetically closely related to C. luteus.

Sperm quality parameters of Iberian toothcarp (Aphanius iberus) and Valencia toothcarp (Valencia hispanica): New conservation tools from a gamete perspective

The sensitive state of conservation of several endemic fish species such as Iberian toothcarp (Aphanius iberus) and Valencia toothcarp (Valencia hispanica) has led governments to consider the implementation of conservation measures to preserve their populations. However, limited knowledge about the reproductive biology of these species makes it necessary to investigate different aspects of their reproductive cycle. In this sense, the main objectives of this work were i) to advance knowledge of the breeding biology of both species, and ii) to develop protocols for the conservation of gametes for the future management and conservation.During the spring of 2019 a temporal series of samplings were carried out in different places in the Comunitat Valenciana. Sperm samples were collected and sperm motion parameters were assessed for the first time in both species. Kinetic patterns were similar showing high motility and velocity values during the first 30 s, and a rapid decrease from that point. At the same time, an in-depth morphometric analysis was carried out using computer-assisted sperm analysis software. Spermatozoa from A. iberus and V. hispanica showed similar sizes and shapes to other external fertilizers belonging to Cyprinodontiformes, with small spherical heads, uniflagellated and without acrosomes.In addition, a new cryopreservation protocol was designed for cryobanking the sperm of these threatened species. Cryopreserved samples showed lower motility than fresh samples but reaching acceptable percentages of motile cells after thawing of around 20 and 25% (A. iberus and V. hispanica, respectively). This study is the first of its kind to successfully achieve gamete cryopreservation of these two endemic and endangered species from the Iberian Peninsula, providing new and useful tools to complement the management and conservation programs that are being developed for both species.

Length-weight relationships and condition factor of five endemic fish species from Nandu and Wanquan Rivers in Hainan Island, China

Length-weight relationships LWRs , length-length relationships LLRs , and condition factor were estimated for Puntius semifasciolatus Gunther, 1868 , Acrossocheilus iridescens Nichols and Pope, 1927 , Plesiomyzon baotingensis Zheng and Chen, 1980 , Hemibagrus hainanensis Tchang, 1935 and Glyptothorax hainanensis Nichols and Pope, 1927 obtained from Nandu and Wanquan Rivers in Hainan Island during June 2017 to April 2019. Fish samples were collected by a combination of methods including multinet gillnets 20 m in length, 1.5 m in height, there monofilament panels of mesh sizes: 1.0, 6.0, 12.5 cm , benthic large bag nets 5 meters long, stretching mesh size: 0.5 cm . The LWRs and LLRs of all species studied were well correlated R$^{2}$ > 0.95 . The b values ranged from 2.8285 for H. hainanensis to 3.0815 for P. baotingensis. The 5 LWRs and LLRs are presented to FishBase for the first time. Additionally, condition factor of P. semifasciolatus, A. iridescens, P. baotingensis, H. hainanensis and G. hainanensis were severally 11.85 ± 1.34, 1.86 ± 0.18, 2.05 ± 0.28, 1.36 ± 0.33, and 2.02 ± 0.35, respectively. This study aims at facilitating fishery management or conservation by providing essential data for the regulation of catches and estimation of biomass in Nandu and Wanquan Rivers in Hainan Island.
