Sustainable Financial Instruments: Their Current State and Prospects

Instruments aimed at sustainable economic development have become widespread in financial markets and are firmly embedded in economic transactions and the system of credit and financial regulation. Incorporating ESG principles into economic activity enables companies to be involved in solving environmental, social and managerial challenges as well as to promote these principles by means of instruments designed to attract and allocate resources that advance sustainable development. As stable financial instruments for these purposes are developed and absorbed into both micro and macro management of the economy, the practices that govern their registration, accounting and listing on exchanges are changing in turn. A parallel process of conceptualizing and reaching theoretical understanding of these new instruments for encouraging sustainable economic development is also underway. Systematic concepts applicable to sustainable financial instruments have been developed, and the role of these instruments in financing ESG transition and development of the financial market has been clarified. The article examines the evolution of sustainable financial instruments, identifies their essential features and role in investment decisions, analyzes the most significant ways they impact the economy and financial markets, and assesses how prepared the financial sector is for their development. Three research hypotheses are put forward. First, economic entities are successfully adapting to the new concept of sustainable financing. Second, the increased inherent complexity of the new instruments and effort needed to prepare them is partially offset by their standardization, as well as by a simplified scheme for their circulation, maintenance and supervision. And third, sustainable development instruments such as green bonds, social bonds, sustainable development bonds, sustainability-related bonds and transitional period bonds contribute to a reassessment of market efficiency and the rationality of market participants

Criteria for the Development and Evaluation of the Implementation of a Sustainable Pedestrian Bridge

The Pedestrian Bridge (Indonesian: JPO) is a vital facility to reduce traffic conflicts and accidents. There is a need to optimize the use of JPO while encouraging sustainable infrastructure development. This requires sustainability criteria. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the implementation of a sustainable JPO criteria in Indonesia by constructing an ”eco JPO” prototype in Surakarta City. A qualitative and quantitative descriptive questionnaire instrument in the form of a Likert scale was used, and further analysis was done using interest performance analysis. The results showed that two criteria must be met, namely, planning criteria and design criteria. Planning criteria included suitability to people’s needs and location. The design criteria included seven measures: attractive design, environmentally friendly, energy self-sufficient, safe, artistic, comfortable, and safe. Based on the evaluation of the design criteria, the overall JPO criteria relatively had the same importance value, namely ”important” with values between 4.47 - 4.85, and weights between 5.8% - 6.57%. The satisfaction aspect showed a somewhat similar value, namely ”satisfied” with the grade between 3.67 - 4.61, and weights between 5.45% - 6.73%.

Leadership as the Main Driving Factor of Regional Sustainable Development Cooperation: A Case Study of ASEAN Tuna Ecolabelling (ATEL)

ASEAN Tuna Ecolabelling (ATEL) has agreed on a scheme of tuna ecolabelling after the approval at the Ministerial of ASEAN Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) meeting in 2018. It makes ATEL the first regional seafood eco-label scheme in the world. It becomes an achievement of ASEAN in supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially for tuna fisheries management. Unfortunately, after four years, its scheme has not yet been completed and takes no support from ASEAN countries, including Indonesia as the initiator. Lack of leadership in ASEAN is the leading cause of the delay in the implementation of ATEL in its region. Leadership is the primary key to encouraging sustainable development, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study aims to analyze the lack of leadership as the main factor in the low effectiveness of regional cooperation in ASEAN. This research is expected to be a solution for completing the ATEL implementation process in that region.

Thermodynamic analysis and experimental verification of the green and efficient recycling of waste sulfur slag by airtight sulfuration-vacuum distillation

Recovering valuable resources from waste sulfur slag is profoundly significant in terms of making profit and encouraging sustainable development within the tin industry. Sulfur slag is a hazardous waste, and a substantial amount of tin and cuprous sulfide is present in waste sulfur slag. However, tin and cuprous sulfide readily react to form stable metal compounds, which creates a barrier for effective sulfur slag recovery. The separation of copper-tin is essential for the efficient recovery and reuse of sulfur slag. In this paper, the physical composition and structural characteristics of the microstructure of sulfur slag were systematically characterized and confirmed. Thermodynamic calculations were then carried out to analyze the sulfuration reaction mechanism of tin and cuprous sulfide during the airtight sulfuration process and to study the volatilization of stannous sulfide and the decomposition properties of copper sulfide under vacuum conditions. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the products of tin and cuprous sulfide after being sulfided were SnS, SnS2, Sn2S3 and CuS, but they decomposed and existed in the form of SnS and Cu2S. According to the difference of saturated vapor pressure, SnS and Cu2S can be separated under the vacuum condition with high temperature. Finally, experiments were conducted to verify the reliability of the thermodynamic analysis, with good agreement between the two. The extraction purities of stannous sulfide and cuprous sulfide reached 97.87 % and 97.70 %, respectively. The direct yield of tin and copper were 99.66 % and 99.27 %, respectively. The separation efficiency of tin and copper was 99.81 %. The results confirmed that the airtight sulfuration-vacuum distillation method is a feasible alternative for high-value metal resource recovery and reuse from waste sulfur slag. This research contributes to the understanding of the recovery of metal resources from sulfur slag with the airtight sulfuration-vacuum distillation process, showing that it is a significant competitive alternative to existing sulfur slag recovery methods.

Effect of Recurring Expenditure Financed by External Grants on Promoting Sustainable Economic Development of Sub-Saharan Africa Countries

This study examined the effect of recurring expenditure financed by external grants on sustainable economic development of sub - Saharan Africa Countries. This paper asked the participation of external grants on the recurring expenditure as one of the source of funds, separately from international finance perspective; the mechanism of domestic did not talk about. This paper filled this gap in literature by determining the recurring expenditure financed by external grants. The study adopted a time series research design where by secondary data were used. The population of the study was external grants and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from 1988/89 - 2019/20 financial years (Annual Data). The sample size of the research was 32 observations. Purposive sampling was used to choose the Tanzania as a study area of the research; data were collected from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).The parameters tests such as test for co integration and unit root test was used to investigate co-integrating vectors. After that, Autoregressive Distributive Lag Model (ARDL) was carrying out to find the results. The finding shows that, recurring expenditure financed by external grants influence sustainable economic development; with P- Value of 0.002. At the same time as inflation rate looks to be insignificant with P- Value of 0.719. The study recommends in order encouraging sustainable economic development, government must proceed to promote the relationship with nations by giving development programs which are consistent with supporting programs. additionally, the research predict the requirement for introducing strong policies that will assist and promote strong collaboration with donor nations and spend more in substantial speculation and utilization expenditure in order to increase the level of production as which will affect the sustainable economic development.

Responsible Leadership and Sustainable Development in East Asia Economic Group: Application of Social Exchange Theory

This study aimed to investigate the integrated relationship of responsible leadership, knowledge sharing, and sustainable performance, drawing from social exchange theory. Data from 264 employees of manufacturing firms in China were collected using online survey forms, exhibiting a response rate of 52.80 percent. Subsequently, the partial least square-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was applied to examine responsible leadership’s direct and indirect effect on sustainable performance. Current empirical evidence revealed that responsible leaders influence sustainable performance significantly among these firms. Moreover, knowledge sharing has partially mediated the link between responsible leadership-sustainable performance. Overall, the present study contributed to the responsible leadership theory and enriched the literature on sustainable development, where it was found that responsible leaders play a critical role in the latter. Policymakers and practitioners in organisations should take the initiative in fostering specific leadership training and knowledge sharing activities. Accordingly, several recommendations were suggested to policymakers, in which strong leadership is considered the primary role behind several organisational aspects. These aspects include success, knowledge, and information, encouraging sustainable development goals.

Feasibility Study on Integration of Green Technologies in Prospective Construction Projects: A Case of Vishakhapatnam

Purpose: The construction sector is one of the important sectors that play an important role in country’s infrastructure development. The haphazard urbanization, industrialization and population explosion, have driven this sector vulnerable in terms of causing impacts on the environment. The construction process involves several stages and numerous stake holders, while this sector remains unorganised in most developing countries. These unintegrated processes in urban expansion, development and construction lead to a huge amount of emissions that cause environmental degradation. This emphasises the need to establish the use of ‘Green Technologies’ and ‘Green Materials’ in the Construction Sector at least as a beginning to bridge the gap between practices in the allied sectors as well. Design/Methodology/Approach: With a view to examine this possibility, the feasibility of green technologies was considered to be studied, for Eastern Vishakhapatnam, the selected study area, which is a developing potential zone identified for potential integration of Green Technologies in construction processes. A comprehensive literature review to identify the major accomplishments and shortcomings in the chosen field, followed by a pre-feasibility analysis was conducted through an organized site visit during an academic project that included personal interaction with the concerned stakeholders and an assessable questionnaire survey. The notion of this study was to collect the details of similar category projects for the incorporation of select ‘green technologies’ identified from relevant literature studies in domains such as energy, material and waste management, which are known to cause maximum impact on the environment. This procedure in turn formed the very basis of the overall methodology of this study. Findings/Result: The analysis of outcomes of the survey helped in developing a breakthrough understanding about the stakeholder’s potential and roles in the overall feasibility of integrating the Green Technologies. Nevertheless, the comparison of the prospective projects in the study area, with the existing projects of the same category that have successfully adopted the green technologies abroad, helped to optimize the framework of integrating green technologies, using green materials based on the above-mentioned domains, for the proposed pilot project. It is inferred from the analysis that it is possible to integrate green technologies in the domains of energy, materials and waste management in prospective projects, if certain constraints and challenges related to social, administrative and economic spheres are eradicated thus encouraging Sustainable Development. Originality/Value: Integrated strategy of adopting green technologies with green construction practices, in major identified domains of energy, materials and waste management will fetch new outcomes and lead towards aiding sustainable development. <p>Temperature is one of the meteorological variables that can best represent the climate of urban areas. It shows obvious sensitivity to urban growth and expansion, resulting in the so-called urban heat island. “Urban climatology has made remarkable progress in dealing with problems in the process of urbanization”<sup>[1]</sup>. It serves elements such as learning contents and initiatives for environmental order or climate comfort suggestions. In recent years, the development trend of ecological cities has been greater, which aims to follow the ecological principle. As a new way of sustainable development, there is more vegetation to balance the heat regulation of the city. Using different statistical data from meteorological stations, data recorder button measurement data, and temperature and humidity sensor data with an environmental probe, a hot city comparison between the capital and adjacent rural and semi-rural areas is carried out. These data have produced the results of encouraging sustainable development initiatives. This has led to better population habitat conditions for the next generation over the years.</p>

A Comparison of Transit-Oriented Development in Sendai, Japan and Adelaide, Australia

ABSTRACT Transit-oriented development (TOD) has the aim of encouraging sustainable mobility and urban development, especially where automobile use overshadows public transport. Therefore, looking to Japan with its history of development centred around railway stations and high public transport use can be useful. This paper examines TOD planning policies and approaches in Sendai, Japan, and Adelaide, Australia to find potential experience and strategies that might be applied to Adelaide. Results indicate that Sendai’s experience with business diversification, functional activities within TOD planning, and attracting private sector and landowner’s involvement in urban renewal projects, may bring fresh insights to TOD development in Adelaide.

Renewable Energy Problems: Exploring the Methods to Support the Decision-Making Process

In the current scenario of increasing energy demand and encouraging sustainable development in countries, the energy sector’s planning has become more complex, involving multiple factors, such as technical, economic, environmental, social, and political. The decision process plays a vital role in structuring and evaluating complex decision situations related to the sector, considering various criteria and objectives, encouraging adopting policies to promote energy efficiency actions by increasing research on renewable energy sources and strategic energy decisions. The high number of multi-criteria decision support methods (MCDM) available and their efficiency in solving highly complex problems results in an impasse with their selection and application in specific decision situations. Thus, the scientific community requires methodological approaches that help the decision-maker select the method consistent with his problem. Accordingly, this paper conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of renewable energy problems associated with MCDM methods based on a final set of 163 articles. We identified five categories of problems solved by MCDM techniques: Source selection, location, sustainability, project performance, and technological performance. We separate the MCDM process into five evaluation steps (alternative selection, criteria selection, criteria weighting, evaluation of alternatives, and post-assessment analyzes), and we extract the methods used in each MCDM step from papers. This paper’s main contribution is identifying the most common MCDM methods in the renewable energy area and the energy problem they solve. Accordingly, this manuscript helps energy decision-makers, entrepreneurs, investors, and policy-makers to improve their ability to choose the proper MCDM methods to solve energy problems.

Analysis and Projection of Land-Use/Land-Cover Dynamics through Scenario-Based Simulations Using the CA-Markov Model: A Case Study in Guanting Reservoir Basin, China

Understanding the rate and process of land-use/land-cover (LULC) change in a watershed is essential for managing natural resources and achieving sustainable development. Therefore, this study aims to analyze historical LULC change from 1980 to 2010 and project future changes in 2030, 2060, and 2090 in the Guanting Reservoir Basin (GRB), China, a critical water-supplying watershed for China’s capital Beijing, through scenario-based simulations. Two LULC scenarios, ‘business-as-usual’ and ‘governance’ (Gov), were projected using the Cellular Automata-Markov (CA–Markov) model. Historical LULC trend analysis shows that built-up land increased from 2.6% in 1980 to 5.26% in 2010, while cropland, grassland, and water body decreased. LULC conversion analysis indicates that, in general, grassland, cropland, and woodland were converted to built-up area from 1980 to 2010. The BAU scenario projects a dramatic increase in built-up area, rising from 2296.98 km2 (5.26%) in 2010 to 11,757.35 km2 (26.93%) in 2090 at the expense of cropland and grassland areas. Conversely, the Gov scenario predicts an increase in water body, woodland, and grassland, encouraging sustainable development. Overall, these results provide useful inputs to the LULC planners and water resources managers to elaborate on eco-friendly policies and regulations for GRB.

Factors influencing Vietnam’s handicraft export with the gravity model

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors that affect handicraft export from Vietnam to trading partners in the period 2007–2017, and how those factors influence the export of handicraft products of Vietnam. Design/methodology/approach The research uses the approach of gravity model based on panel data to evaluate the export of Vietnamese handicraft to 50 main trading partners, covering the period from 2007 to 2017. Findings The estimated results reveal that Vietnam’s GDP, importer’s GDP, trading partner’s population, Vietnam’s inflation, the economic distance between Vietnam and importer, the openness of Vietnam, importing country’s common language and the issue that both Vietnam and importer are member of APEC are the main factors affecting Vietnamese handicraft export. Research limitations/implications This study also has some limitations. It is limited in the data, as some other areas in the world have not been observed and included in the research. In the future, a study with large-scale data of space and time should be conducted, which will certainly give a universal result and fewer errors. However, this paper, in our opinion, provides a significant result and may help the government and policy makers to undertake appropriate measures to improve and promote the export of Vietnamese handicrafts to the world markets. Practical implications The research describes the current situation, and it studies factors influencing Vietnam’s handicraft export using the qualitative analysis. The result should be useful for the policy maker and enterprises to promote export activities of Vietnamese handicrafts to international markets. Social implications Handicraft export of Vietnam plays an important part in retaining the culture value and social development as well as encouraging sustainable development for the rural poor within the country. Originality/value The past research related to Vietnamese handicraft export almost analyzed the situation to promote export handicrafts. This research is based on the study of factors affecting trade and the gravity model to elaborate and supplement the factors that affect the export of handicraft in accordance with the actual conditions of Vietnam.

Evaluation Of Soja Productivity (Imperial Variete And Canada) In Association With Maize (Bamboo Variete) In The Ecological Conditions Of Sustainable Use Of Sake / Nord Kivu

With a view to using land capital in an efficient and effective manner with a view to encouraging sustainable development in this ecological area of North Kivu; and to help minimize land-use conflicts, we have thought of establishing a combination of crops (soybean and maize) as a technique that can help maximize yields / ha and household income, while maintaining the fertility gradient of the soil. The effectiveness of Soybean-maize associations offers interesting prospects for improving the sustainability of production systems.The trial was arranged in randomized randomized blocks with 5 treatments and 3 replicates. For this study we used 2 soybean varieties that are: imperial and canada, with a variety of corn (bamboo).The arrangement of the association was of the type MBILI-MOJA which means two Soya lines intercepted by a corn line. The parameters studied were the phenological and productive parameters which are: survey rate, neck diameter, height at flowering, number of leaves per foot, average number of pods per plant for soybean, average number of seeds of soybean pod, percentage of pod burst, soybean biomass removal, number of ears per plant, weight of 100 soybean and corn seeds, plot production (in kg), yield per tonne per hectare and the LER.The GENSTAT descovery software allowed us to analyze the variance of our data and the averages were separated using the PPDS at the 5% threshold.The performance of the associations was as follows:Imperial: 1,6 L.E.R =, L.E.R> 1 (there is a productive advantage in this association with corn bamboo); Canada: 2,33 LER =, LER> 1 (there is a productive advantage in this association with bamboo maize.) In both cases, there is maintenance of biodiversity and soil fertility.with maize as the imperial variety, that of 2.33 by the performance of LER. Fertility of the soil has been maintained from this technique which promotes soil and atmospheric nitrogen which crops need for their growth and productivity. Influencing sustainability by controlling future brownfields in Africa: a case study of Ethiopia

Purpose The increasing African population and economic growth leading to urbanisation continues to increase the need to redevelop brownfields as a strategy of encouraging sustainable development of cities, in particular in Ethiopia. However, the adoption of brownfield redevelopment in Ethiopia is at initial stage. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to highlight the framework based on grey-incidence decision-making approach to manage brownfields in African countries by taking Ethiopia as case example. The grey-incidence decision-making model integrates multiple factors such as economic, social, environmental, technical and associated risks and provides an effective decision-making and management tool for environmental practitioners and government agencies. Design/methodology/approach Questionnaires were used to collect data on terms and definitions of brownfield. The questions were prepared on the basis of currently used definitions developed by a number of developed countries. Moreover, this study utilises a grey-incidence decision-making approach to help in management and decision-making for the implementation of brownfield redevelopment projects (BRPs) in the remediated sites. Findings Standard definition of brownfield and essential guidelines for brownfield redevelopment is proposed for Ethiopian context. The research findings were tested and verified using literature data and survey from major stakeholders. In addition, the grey-incidence decision-making approach is applied for the evaluation of BRPs in the remediated sites. A framework is proposed to control future brownfields for African countries by taking Ethiopia as a case example. Originality/value This research stresses the significance of an urban structure to address sustainable development, and the need to consider redevelopment of brownfields and identify the potential for a specific government policy framework. This research provides the best opportunity for Ethiopia by devising an urban land policy and create a strategy to contribute social, economic, financial and environmental benefits. It also provides a foundation to solve environmental issues by involving all major stakeholders, including community citizens, environmentalists and government agencies, and it also serves as guidelines to transform brownfields into Greenfields; and finally, it contributes to achieve the 2030 UN global goals.

Uma proposta de políticas públicas municipais de incentivos econômicos para o fomento da ecoeficiência na construção civil

Brazil, in the last decade, has been suffering from economic variations, bringing insecurity in the macroeconomic context that, consequently, hinders the definitive exit of the crisis. Government policy measures focus largely on economic growth, rather than encouraging sustainable development aimed at the economy, society and the environment. The civil construction sector, which is responsible for a large part of the Brazilian economy, plays a fundamental role in this context, because, despite its economic importance, it is the sector that generates more environmental and social liabilities. In this context, it is a responsibility of the Public Administration to create policies that aim to increase the positive economic, social and environmental aspects of this sector and reduce the negative ones. In this scenario, the main objective of this work is to: Provide subsidies that can help in the decision-making process for the establishment of public policies that promote sustainable practices, based on the perception of construction companies. The research involved a literature review related to sustainability, ecoefficiency, Civil Construction, Ecological Constructions and Tax Incentives, adopting as methodology the use of a questionnaire for companies in the civil construction sector. It is a qualitative and quantitative study, with bibliographic, documentary and field research, direct and applied observation. The work resulted in proposals for improvements to enable the Public Administration to optimize its policies to promote eco-efficiency, such as bureaucratization of licensing processes and transparency of public policy information, encouraging organizations in the construction sector to improve their activities the reduction of solid waste production and emissions of polluting gases, without hindering the economic development of these companies.

Green Accommodation for Sustainable Tourism Development in Malaysia

The study identifies the initiatives of green accommodation in existing policies for achieving sustainable tourism development in Malaysia. It also analyzes the tourists’ perception of green accommodation from sustainability perspectives. Non-probability convenience technique has been used for the sample selection and a total of 100 respondents are selected from the tourists by purposive sampling to identified tourists’ perceptions. Malaysian policies have emphasized several green strategies in tourist accommodations, such as energy, water, and waste management, introduce renewable energy, build green, environment-friendly and energy conservation buildings, introduce green technologies, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and improve ecological services. The study shows the positive perception of tourists’ towards green accommodation which encouraging sustainable tourism development in Malaysia. They agreed that this accommodation is environment-friendly, suitable for resource efficiency, use proper waste management techniques, encourage local products, create employment opportunities for local, promote local culture and traditions as well as ensure well-being for the local communities.
