The Rights of Women with Disabilities at Work in Islamic Countries the United Arab Emirates as an example

The research emphasizes the significance of advocating for the rights of women with disabilities in the workplace and their contribution toward achieving holistic economic development in all Islamic countries. It examines the discriminatory obstacles these women face in exercising their right to work equally. It also discusses international initiatives related to protecting women with disabilities and improving their integration and opportunities for economic empowerment. This research employs a descriptive-analytic methodology to gather and subsequently describe, analyze, and interpret various aspects of women with disabilities' rights at work, as well as the international efforts and UAE policies for promoting those rights. The research concludes the importance of the steps taken by the UAE government toward empowering women with disabilities in the workplace. The United Arab Emirates represents a great model for other Islamic and non-Islamic countries to follow in their dedication to advancing the rights of women with disabilities.

Online Mothering: The Empowering Nature of a Hashtag Movement Founded on Social Sharing and Stereotype Deconstruction

Online mothering is an arising and multifaceted phenomenon as the online world offers unique opportunities and risks in a particularly challenging period. The overall aim of this work is to investigate the features of the hashtag movement #itcouldbeme, which was born after a terrible news event concerning a newborn’s death, specifically concerning (a) the e-activation levels; (b) the emotional arousal; (c) the potential presence of deconstruction of stereotypes concerning intensive mothering. To investigate positioning, reactions, and emotions, a database of 394 online posts gathered from popular Italian social networks was created, manually codified, and analyzed through the chi-square test. The results enabled us to deepen the associations among these variables, thus revealing the opportunities for empowerment offered by the socio-cultural positioning, different emotional pathways, and adhesion to this online movement. Finally, implications for professionals and public health issues are discussed.

Gender Role Dynamics in Economic Development: Challenges and Opportunities for Women's Empowerment

The role of gender in economic development has become a major concern in the context of women's empowerment. This article investigates those dynamics with a focus on the challenges and opportunities faced in women's economic empowerment efforts. Through a comprehensive review of the literature, we explore the role of gender in economic development, explain the various challenges women face in access and control of economic resources, and identify opportunities to increase their empowerment. We also discuss the impact of gender roles in the context of global and regional economic development.

Women's participation in and benefit from Rift Valley fever livestock vaccine value chain; current situation and barriers in Nyagatare District, Rwanda

Livestock vaccine value chains present opportunities for women's empowerment and income generation. To effectively position women to embrace these opportunities, understanding their current position and the factors that determine their involvement is crucial. This study mapped the actors, governance framework, and women's and men's positions along the value chain. It also analyzed gendered barriers to their participation and benefiting from services, processes, and products from the livestock Rift Valley fever vaccine value chain for livestock in Nyagatare District, Rwanda. Data was collected through 10 focus group discussions, 33 key informant interviews, and 1 stakeholder engagement meeting, while analysis was conducted thematically. Our results show that women's participation as importers, distributors, deliverers, or end-users was low to non-existent. Local gender norms curtailed women's participation and benefit at all nodes through restricted mobility, limited decision-making power, and restricted access to and control over resources. Additional barriers for stakeholders at the end-user node included a lack of knowledge about RVF vaccination in goats and how to demand or access the vaccine. This study recommends challenging persistent and limiting cultural norms through behavioral change communication by engaging men and boys as key actors for gender equality, engendering national and local planning and evaluation frameworks, and accelerating gender transformation in the private sector.

Public Perception of the Impact of Technological Challenges on Human Rights in Indonesia

This qualitative research investigates public perceptions of the impact of technological challenges on human rights in Indonesia. Through in-depth interviews with 15 participants from various backgrounds, this research explores the perceived benefits and challenges of technology, attitudes towards government regulation, and trust in technology companies. The findings reveal a nuanced understanding of the intersection of technology and human rights, highlighting concerns about privacy, freedom of expression, and corporate accountability. While technology offers opportunities for empowerment and connectivity, it also carries risks such as data breaches, online censorship and the digital divide. This study underscores the importance of balancing innovation with the protection of fundamental rights and calls for transparent, accountable and ethically responsible practices in the digital realm.

SAUDI WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN LEADERSHIP POSITIONS IN HEALTH CARE SECTOR: BARRIERS TO THEIR SUCCESS

Purpose: Women’s leadership is a necessary step in the development of civilization. However, the purpose of this study is to identify the barriers and challenges facing Saudi Arabian women seeking leadership positions in the health care industry. Theoretical Framework: The model's constructs are based on the studies cited, and they include barriers related to culture, a woman's personality, organizational politics, women's empowerment, and male top management discrimination. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study used a survey to collect data from 459 female was chosen for the study and a sample comprised of female employees in the Saudi privet healthcare sector from all the regions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.. Using smart PLS, was employed to analyses the research data. Findings: The findings and the results of the analysis indicates that the dimensions of the model included Male top management discrimination, Culture, woman’s personalities, and organizational politics exert different influences on women's empowerment. we find Measuring the effect of moderating factors (The Male top management discrimination) indicates has the strongest effect on Culture and women's empowerment in the Saudi healthcare sector. Research, Practical & Social Implications: As a result, this study has deepened our understanding of the dynamic nature of women's empowerment and the challenges facing women's prospects for leadership while also helping to reframe gender roles. According to this study, women should receive leadership training in order to improve their capacity for decision-making, fulfill their organizational obligations, and expand the opportunities for women's empowerment. Originality/Value: The degree to which Saudi citizens are willing to change their opinions of women's leadership and personalities; to end practices that support male dominance and oppression of women; to end discriminatory laws and policies that impede women's career advancement; and to place their faith in a woman's self-assurance and ability to make the right decisions and shoulder the responsibility in healing.

Exploration and reflection on the female labor industryin the era of artificial intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) heralds a transformative age in the workforce, marked by heightened efficiencies but also by socio-economic challenges, particularly concerning gender equity. Women, frequently occupying roles susceptible to AI-driven automation, face a disproportionate risk of job displacement. This paper explores AI’s nuanced impact on the employment landscape, where it both exacerbates and mitigates gender disparities. As technology outmoded roles traditionally filled by women, such as those requiring lower technical skills, it also unearthed opportunities for empowerment through remote occupations and increased demand for human-centric expertise. This analysis extends to the cultural and educational underpinnings contributing to the gendered differentiation in technical professions, emphasizing the stereotypes that pigeonhole women as less suited for technical roles. Investigating the imbalances wrought by capitalist values, the study exposes the undervaluation of ‘feminine’ attributes in favor of ‘masculine’ norms of economic productivity. It suggests women’s empowerment in the evolving job market hinges on a systemic shift towards equitable recognition of all work forms, transcending traditional gender roles. In conclusion, redefining work value and leveraging inclusive AI applications emerge as pivotal to counteracting historical biases and ensuring women’s equitable participation alongside men. This comprehensive approach involves reorienting policy, corporate culture, and academic vectors to facilitate a society where diversity is celebrated, and gender parity is achieved. AI, while a disruptor, thus becomes a potential equalizer in the quest for gender-inclusive growth.

Symptom and Technology Management Intervention Usefulness for Caregivers of Children With Tracheostomies and Feeding Tubes.

Caregivers of children who require medical technology of tracheostomies and feeding tubes provide intensive and specialized care at home. They have extensive training in the hospital prior to their child's discharge; however, there is limited education about their child's care once they are at home. The Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment: Symptom and Technology Management Resources intervention focused on commonly experienced symptoms and technology used at home by caregivers. We present the findings from the intervention exit interviews to gain insight about the intervention from caregiver perspectives, notably their perceptions of usefulness, ease of use, and acceptability. A qualitative descriptive design was used to examine caregivers' perceptions of the intervention in exit interviews. These interviews were conducted upon completion of the intervention as part of feasibility testing. Sixteen caregivers completed the study and participated in exit interviews. Caregivers described the themes of the best that you can do, a reminder that I am doing it the right way, and I wish I had these when my child first had the tracheostomy and feeding tube. Caregivers also provided feedback about the intervention's usefulness and suggestions for further refinement and future adaptations of the intervention. Caregivers provided valuable insights about the intervention, describing its usefulness to them, the potential for usefulness for other caregivers of these children, and their experiences with care of their children at home. Future plans include efficacy testing and modifications to enhance the intervention based on caregiver feedback.

The lived experiences of HIV-positive women in rural Zimbabwe: A qualitative focus group study.

The study explored and described the meaning attached to the lived experiences of women living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the rural context of Zimbabwe. Stigma and discrimination negatively impact one's ability to perform the expected social roles, the quality of life, and the efforts to prevent the spread of HIV and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and reduce HIV-related mortality. Thus, the study aims to understand the meaning attached to the lived experiences of HIV-positive women living in rural areas or villages of Matabeleland South province in Zimbabwe. The study used a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory design. Four focus group discussions were conducted with 24 HIV-positive rural women living in Matabeleland South province, Zimbabwe. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was adopted to explore and describe the meaning attached to the lived experiences of women living with HIV. Two interconnected themes were identified in the analysis with their sub-themes. These were: (1) struggle for social belonging, with subthemes - loss of social belonging and reduced access to community-based empowerment opportunities and (2) struggle for maintaining the quality of life with subthemes - lack of need-based community healthcare and food insecurity. Being a woman living with HIV in rural Zimbabwe means a perpetual struggle to maintain one's humanness and quality of life.Contribution:This study's results will support the efforts of the Zimbabwean government to improve the quality of life of HIV-positive women living in rural areas.

By achieving these objectives, the research aims to offer a comprehensive understanding of how Dokan Cultural Village can harness its potential as a sustainable tourism destination through the enhancement of its product quality.

The evidence-based COPE program: Reducing the time between diagnosing and treating depression and anxiety in youth.

The soaring prevalence of depression and anxiety in children, teenagers, and young adults is now a public health epidemic, yet access to timely evidence-based mental health treatment is often lacking due to a severe shortage of mental health providers. This article provides an overview of the current state of depression and anxiety in children and adolescents as well as first-line evidence-based treatment. The Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment (COPE) program, a cognitive-behavioral skills-building intervention, is highlighted as an evidence-based intervention for timely treatment that can be delivered by NPs, physicians, and physician associates/assistants in primary care settings, school-based health centers, and chronic care clinics with reimbursement as well as in schools and universities as a preventive mental health intervention.

Decolonizing English in Higher Education: Global Englishes and TESOL as Opportunities or Barriers (SI on Global Englishes and TESOL)

AbstractEnglish is core to HE (higher education) globally, with both HE and English seen as pathways to success for students. Yet, access to English is unequal and colonial ideologies associate English with Anglophone settings. Much of the research on English in HE has focused on elite institutions and students, while the majority of the world's HE students remain comparatively under‐researched. This paper reports on a mixed‐methods study of TESOL in five linguistically and socioculturally diverse HE settings in Colombia, Mexico, Iraq, Thailand, and Vietnam. The aims were to explore the roles and perceptions of English, TESOL, and other languages in policy and practice, (including multilingualism and Global Englishes) and how these related to processes of dis/empowerment and de/colonialization of HE. We sought to uncover the extent to which TESOL and English allowed or restricted access to opportunities of empowerment for different groups of students on their way to and through HE, and how English intersected with a range of dimensions of potential marginalization or privilege, particularly socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and rurality. We present findings from students through a questionnaire (n = 1820) and interviews with students, teachers, and administrators at each of the sites (n = 150).

Essentialist traps and how to avoid them

Through the monolingual bias and essentialist understandings of language in education, multilingual youth across the globe have consistently been portrayed as deficient based on their linguistic practices. Deficit approaches in education stem from a colonial project meant to silence the voices and erase the experiences of the Other, and although there is a long tradition of pedagogies that try to counteract this form of discrimination, these attempts are typically built on principles and assumptions that reproduce essentialism and dynamics of marginalization. In this position paper, I argue that it is necessary for educators to engage with non-essentialist understandings of language and multi-sided perspectives on multilingualism to develop pedagogies that are empowering for multilingual youth in Sweden. By engaging with the decolonial notion of linguistic citizenship, educators in Sweden can allow fluid understandings of multilingualism to enter the classroom, creating spaces for socio-political participation and dialogue at the margins of institutional arenas in which language can be negotiated. This measure creates opportunities for empowerment for all students, engaging them in the reconstruction of language and giving voice to stories that would otherwise remain silent.

Understanding Roles of Non-Government Organizations and the Development Processes

The main objective of this research paper is to acquire an efficient understanding of roles of non-government organizations and the development processes. The individuals, belonging to all communities and age groups are overwhelmed by different types of problems. Furthermore, the social problems of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, homelessness, crime and violence and gender inequality is found in rural and urban communities. Hence, it is necessary for the individuals to ensure, these problems do not have any types of unfavorable effects on them. The victims of these problems are assisted in order to recuperate. Furthermore, they are imparted with information regarding ways to bring about improvements in overall standards of living. In other words, there is encouragement of counseling and guidance services. The individuals, employed within non-government organizations are well-informed in terms of their job duties and responsibilities. Furthermore, they augment their information in terms of methodologies and procedures, which are facilitating in carrying out tasks in a well-ordered manner and generating desired outcomes. In this manner, non-government organizations are rendering an important contribution in promoting community well-being. Furthermore, they are promoting empowerment opportunities among women and marginalized groups. Therefore, the non-government organizations are rendering an efficient contribution in carrying out development processes in a satisfactory manner. Effectiveness of an evidenced-based cognitive behavioral therapy intervention for adolescents in a school setting.

The adolescent years are a formative time when rapid hormonal and physical changes stimulate the developing mind. Exposure to poverty, abuse, violence, and lack of peer and social support causes an increase in vulnerability to the development of mental health problems. The COVID-19 pandemic has also exacerbated symptoms of depression and anxiety. Regardless of the risk factors, anxiety and depression continue to be significant health problems, affecting thousands of adolescents yearly in the United States. The first-line treatment recommendation for managing anxiety and depression symptoms is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). However, access to a provider for CBT treatment is not always an option for many reasons. This pilot evidenced-based practice project aims to increase access to skills acquired through CBT and improve adolescents' mental health by implementing a brief and evidenced-based CBT program in a school setting. The CBT program for this project is the Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment (COPE) for Teens program consisting of seven 50-55-min sessions. The COPE program was delivered to 22 students in a 7th-grade health class. The Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-Item and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 Modified for Adolescents measured anxiety and depression scores at baseline, post-intervention, and 2-month follow-up. Results indicate clinically significant improvements in anxiety and depression scores and showed participant satisfaction. COPE in the school setting offers a low-risk solution to improving behaviors and emotional intelligence. COPE is a cost-effective solution to the mental health provider shortage.

Examining the utilization of participatory research with autistic youth in mainstream/public schools: a scoping review

PurposeThis scoping review explores the utilization of participatory research with autistic youth in K-12 public/mainstream school settings.MethodsA scoping review was performed to identify how often participatory research methodologies are used in K-12 public/mainstream school settings with autistic students, what researchers report are the strengths, barriers, and recommendations in using participatory research methodologies with autistic students in K-12 public school settings and what type of demographic information is included in the studies.ResultsFive studies were included for review focusing on participatory research with autistic youth in K-12 public or mainstream school settings. The studies used a range of participatory research methodologies to explore the experiences of mainly male autistic youth in the UK and Australia. Strengths, challenges, and recommendations noted included opportunities for empowerment, increased ownership, issues with teachers, thinking critically about communication, and collaboration with partners.ConclusionParticipatory research with autistic school-aged youth is an emerging practice. This is evidenced by the small number of studies included in this review. The findings highlight concerns about the lack of representation of autistic females and students with historically marginalized racial identities in autism research. Recommendations for including these groups in autism research, implications, and limitations are discussed.

Measuring the Level of Job Satisfaction and Opportunities for Participation Empowerment of Health Workers in the Aseer Region

Background and Aims: This study aimed to investigate the perspectives of Saudi Arabian healthcare workers in the Aseer region. Specifically, the focus was on employee satisfaction and work environment variables to contribute to the existing literature on employee well-being and organizational behavior. The study utilized variable frequencies and percentages to provide a comprehensive summary of the experiences of healthcare workers in the region. Methods: The study involved 543 participants from various healthcare institutions, including Primary Health Centers (PHCs), secondary and tertiary hospitals, and other relevant establishments. These participants completed a survey consisting of multiple-choice questions concerning employee satisfaction and the workplace. The data obtained from the survey were analyzed to discern employee perceptions by computing variable frequencies and percentages. Results: The majority of the participants were Saudi nationals (90%) with a significant representation of male respondents (67.8%). The age group between 30 and 40 years constituted the largest portion of the participants (57.6%). Among the workplaces, hospitals were the most common, employing 70.5% of the respondents. Overall, the study found positive perceptions regarding head support, appreciation, training and development opportunities, and promotional prospects. However, areas such as benefits, job description compatibility, and equipment availability exhibited room for improvement. Conclusions: The study presents valuable insights into the perspectives of healthcare workers in diverse workplaces within Saudi Arabia’s Aseer region. To enhance staff satisfaction and well-being, it is essential to focus on improving training and development opportunities, benefits, equipment availability, and cluster effectiveness. The study’s findings enable organizations to assess their current operations and make necessary changes to boost employee happiness and morale. Future research should address the identified discrepancies in employee perception and job satisfaction.

MUSLIM WOMEN AND AGENCY: CHANGING RELIGIOUS PATTERNS A CASE STUDY OF TURKISH AND IRANIAN WOMEN

We investigated the lives of lower-middle-class traditional-religious Muslim Women in the Middle East, with an emphasis on women in Ankara and Tehran. This article seeks to show the opposite aspects of current theories that show the concept of agency is typically useful to the upper middle classes, vice versa submission and obedience are characteristics typically used to describe the lower middle classes. In addition, Studies in the field of religion and women consider the emancipation of women from the structure of patriarchy and the challenge of the beliefs and interpretations of traditional Islam to belong to the upper class and elite of society. The study analyzed 50 women to show maybe their everyday life is silent, hidden, and slow but these women have been able to demonstrate their empowerment with low education and low economy. The results revealed that these women often did not think and act regarding social, cultural, traditional, and religious expectations as passive, and submissive personality but they looked for redistribution of their facilities and opportunities and also gain internal independence while they were conscious of what is going on in their current situation. Furthermore, they have not used religion as a tool to expand their empowerment opportunities, but they have challenged traditional Islam and the interpretations that have tried to suppress them with the help of patriarchy for long years. They have inadvertently opened the space for the entry of religious intellectualism thoughts into their practical everyday life. Indirect opposition to the laws that have a jurisprudential basis has caused women to go beyond the stage of resistance, and this opposition as an intangible struggles has been able to change aspects of their lives, and eventually, it shows a more concrete view of Islam's equality towards women.

Participatory, Multimodal Approaches to Child Rights Education in Global Contexts: Reflections on a Study with Schoolchildren in Uganda and Canada

Globally, we have much to learn about fulfilling international child education rights, particularly in times of crisis, as evidenced during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Although the right of children to know their rights is enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and other documents, such as the African Charter on Rights and Welfare of the Child, child rights are rarely introduced to children as part of their formal learning experience in school, because children are deemed unable to understand the concepts of rights (and responsibilities) (Alderson, 2008; Jerome, 2018). This lack of child-rights education means children are denied opportunities for empowerment: e.g., awareness and knowledge needed for self-advocacy, advocacy for other children with respect to the ability to claim and exercise their rights (Covell et al., 2017; Wabwile, 2016). Drawing on a case study conducted in Uganda and Canada, this paper discusses how participatory, empowering, multimodal, and contextually-responsive/sensitive approaches to child rights education enables children to engage meaningfully in learning about their rights.

EXPLORING THE FEAR OF SOCIAL STIGMA AND FINANCIAL BARRIERS FACED BY HIV-POSITIVE INDIVIDUAL: A CASE STUDY OF RAVEENA

This case study examines the challenges faced by Raveena, a 38-year-old HIV-positive single mother, as she navigates through social stigma, mental health concerns, and financial barriers following her divorce from an HIV-infected husband. After discovering her husbands HIV status and the revelation that she was his second wife, Raveena was left alone, pregnant, and uncertain about her future. This research aims to understand how social stigma impacts Raveenas mental health, employment opportunities, and financial stability. The study aims to identify opportunities for Raveenas empowerment and potential interventions to improve her overall well-being. The research employs qualitative methods, including interviews, observations, and document analysis, to gather data on Raveenas experiences and explore the impact of her circumstances on her life and mental health. The findings emphasize the need to develop comprehensive support programs to address the multifaceted challenges faced by HIV-positive single mothers.
