The article is devoted to the consideration of the development and implementation of a quality management system at enterprises in the hospitality industry, the identification of key elements of quality management and criteria for guest satisfaction with the quality of service. It is emphasized that the main goal of the quality management system at a hospitality industry enterprise is to increase competitiveness by improving the quality of service provision. The authors proposed an implementation algorithm, a conceptual model of the quality management system, and substantiated measures to improve it.

Coping with skill shortage within the UK construction industry: Scaling up training and development systems

A skilled workforce is essential for producing high quality construction work, efficiently and effectively. This paper is formulated to improve the understanding and knowledge surrounding the skill shortage currently being faced within the UK, and the significant impact it is having on quality management. It surrounds around each main area, and the impacts of recent years: Brexit, Covid-19 and ageing workforce. A mixed method approach was applied to collect data from the quantitative and qualitative sources. The quantitative survey data was collected through snowball sampling from the 130 construction professionals working the UK construction industry. Moreover, a case study has been conducted on a large-scale construction project located in the Northeast of England where the outcome of these issues can be seen in all aspects of the work. Training and development are the fundamental issues highlighted during the literature review and then subsequently expressed by participants of the surveys. In addition, the moderation analysis also provides the important role of training and development in reducing the negative impacts of COVID-19 and Brexit towards quality management. However, it was also revealed that the training and development are not useful for the aging workforce in combating the skilled shortage challenges towards quality management system in the construction industry. This research will allow the industry to understand the need for a skilled workforce and how it benefits the quality management elements of a construction project.

Identifying the Dimensions and Elements of Comprehensive Quality Management at Islamic Azad University: A Qualitative Study

Evaluation of ICUs and weight of quality control indicators: an exploratory study based on Chinese ICU quality data from 2015 to 2020.

This study aimed to explore key quality control factors that affected the prognosis of intensive care unit (ICU) patients in Chinese mainland over six years (2015-2020). The data for this study were from 31 provincial and municipal hospitals (3425 hospital ICUs) and included 2 110 685 ICU patients, for a total of 27 607 376 ICU hospitalization days. We found that 15 initially established quality control indicators were good predictors of patient prognosis, including percentage of ICU patients out of all inpatients (%), percentage of ICU bed occupancy of total inpatient bed occupancy (%), percentage of all ICU inpatients with an APACHE II score ⩾15 (%), three-hour (surviving sepsis campaign) SSC bundle compliance (%), six-hour SSC bundle compliance (%), rate of microbe detection before antibiotics (%), percentage of drug deep venous thrombosis (DVT) prophylaxis (%), percentage of unplanned endotracheal extubations (%), percentage of patients reintubated within 48 hours (%), unplanned transfers to the ICU (%), 48-h ICU readmission rate (%), ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) (per 1000 ventilator days), catheter related blood stream infection (CRBSI) (per 1000 catheter days), catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) (per 1000 catheter days), in-hospital mortality (%). When exploratory factor analysis was applied, the 15 indicators were divided into 6 core elements that varied in weight regarding quality evaluation: nosocomial infection management (21.35%), compliance with the Surviving Sepsis Campaign guidelines (17.97%), ICU resources (17.46%), airway management (15.53%), prevention of deep-vein thrombosis (14.07%), and severity of patient condition (13.61%). Based on the different weights of the core elements associated with the 15 indicators, we developed an integrated quality scoring system defined as F score=21.35%xnosocomial infection management + 17.97%xcompliance with SSC guidelines + 17.46%×ICU resources + 15.53%×airway management + 14.07%×DVT prevention + 13.61%×severity of patient condition. This evidence-based quality scoring system will help in assessing the key elements of quality management and establish a foundation for further optimization of the quality control indicator system.

The construction of patient quality management model in oral post anesthesia care unit in China: a grounded theory approach

BackgroundNowadays, people have paid more and more attention to the quality of physical and mental health recovery after oral surgery anesthesia. As a remarkable feature of patient quality management, it can effectively reduce the risk of postoperative complications and pain in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). However, the patient management model in oral PACU remains unknown, especially in China. The purpose of this study is to explore the management elements of patient quality management in the oral PACU and to construct the management model.MethodsStrauss and Corbin’s grounded theory method was used to explore the experiences of three anesthesiologists, six anesthesia nurses and three administrators working in oral PACU. Twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted using face-to-face in a tertiary stomatological hospital from March to June, 2022. The interviews were transcribed and thematically analysed according to QSR NVivo 12.0 qualitative analysis tool.ResultsThree themes and ten subthemes were identified through an active analysis process, including three of the core team members: stomatological anesthesiologists, stomatological anesthesia nurses and administrators, three of the main functions: education and training, patient care and quality control and four of the team operation processes: analysis, plan, do, check.ConclusionThe patient quality management model of the oral PACU is helpful for the professional identity and career development of stomatological anesthesia staff in China, which can accelerate the professional development of oral anesthesia nursing quality. According to the model, the patient’s pain and fear will decrease, meanwhile, safety and comfort will increase. It can make contributions to the theoretical research and clinical practice in the future.

THE EFFECT OF TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT (TQM) ELEMENTS IMPLEMENTATION ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE AT PT POMI PAITON

Total Quality Management (TQM) is one of the tools used by business people in improving the progress of a company. The company uses Total Quality Management (TQM) because it has proven to be a big concern for managers in improving company performance. This study aims to determine the effect of Total Quality Management (TQM) on Employee Performance at PT POMI Paiton through three Total Quality Management (TQM) elements, namely teamwork; education and training; and employee engagement and empowerment. This type of research is quantitative with the research method used is associative. The source of this research data is an employee of PT POMI Paiton with a total sample of 86 respondents. Furthermore, the data collection method used is a questionnaire. Then, data processing techniques, namely validity and reliability tests, and data analysis techniques, namely multiple regression and hypothesis testing. The results of this study show that: 1) Simultaneously, the Total Quality Management (TQM) elements, namely teamwork; education and training; and employee involvement and empowerment affect employee performance at PT POMI Paiton. 2) Partially, the teamwork variable, education and training variable, have no positive and significant effect on employee performance; while employee engagement and empowerment variable have a positive and significant effect on employee performance. The regression results that have been carried out show the value of the coefficient of determination (R2) of 41.8%. This indicates that the large percentage of the three elements of the eleven elements of the Total Quality Management (TQM) can explain employee performance, while 58.2% is explained by other variables. The results of this study can provide information or as a signal to the company in improving the performance of company employees.

Leadership Style, Quality Management, Organizational Culture, and Collaboration Concept in Improving the Absorption of Vocational Higher Education Graduates

This study aims to get an overview related to the implementation of education at the vocational tertiary level, where vocational education aims to produce graduates who are ready to be absorbed by industry. In this study, it will be described how the role of leadership, quality management, organizational culture and collaboration with industry in improving the performance of vocational tertiary lecturers so as to improve the quality of graduates which in turn can increase the absorption of Vocational Higher Education graduates by surrounding industries. This research focuses on the performance of Vocational Colleges in Indonesia. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, and data collection in this study was carried out using a desk study technique. The results of the study show that the performance of Vocational Higher Education has a very large contribution in increasing employment absorption rates, which in the implementation of education are strongly supported by elements of leadership, organizational culture, quality management and collaboration with industry which can produce graduates who are ready to be absorbed by the industrial world.

Consolidate the foundation, steadily promote and comprehensively improve the quality control in prevention and management of venous thromboembolism in China

Hospital-associated venous thromboembolism (HA-VTE) has become a public health problem that seriously affects the quality of medical care and patient safety. Many countries regarded VTE prevention as a key element of medical quality management, carried out quality improvement work in VTE prevention and achieved remarkable results. In China, there is also unremitting efforts and explorations in the field of VTE prevention and management. The national program for prevention and management of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis was officially launched. Through a series of measures such as excellent center construction, regional alliance, and strengthening of quality control and informatization, the national program has greatly promoted the construction of VTE prevention and management system in hospitals across the country. Strengthening the prevention and treatment of VTE has become the common will of the government, hospital administrators, clinical medical staff and the public. In the future, we need to continue to steadily promote the prevention and management of VTE, and comprehensively improve the quality control management level of VTE prevention and management in hospitals.

Thresholds for Reduction in Fish Growth and Consumption Due to Hypoxia: Implications for Water Quality Guidelines to Protect Aquatic Life.

Control of hypoxia is a key element of water quality management, and guidelines are usually based on qualitative reviews of hypoxia impacts. In this study we use segmented regression to identify both thresholds for growth reduction and rate of decline of fish growth and food consumption under hypoxia; and then evaluate whether current freshwater guidelines for dissolved oxygen based on qualitative reviews are consistent with the quantitative analysis of hypoxia thresholds. Segmented regressions were fit to data from published growth-hypoxia studies for freshwater (N = 17) and marine fishes (N = 13). To understand potential drivers of hypoxia tolerance, we also modelled thresholds as simple functions of environmental and ecological covariates for each species including trophic level, marine vs. freshwater environment, maximum fish length, fish weight, and maximum temperature tolerance. The average threshold for growth reduction (Gcrit; 5.1 mg·l-1 DO) and decreased food consumption (Ccrit = 5.6 mg·l-1 DO) were not significantly different, and did not differ between marine and freshwater taxa. However, salmonids showed a significantly steeper decline in growth with increasing hypoxia relative to other taxa. Growth declined by 22% for every mg·l-1 reduction in DO below average Gcrit, and significant regressions indicate that warmwater (R2 = 0.25) and smaller-bodied (R2 = 0.44) species are more likely to be hypoxia tolerant. Observed mean Gcrit and Ccrit in the range of 5-6 mg·l-1 broadly match minimum water quality guidelines for the protection of aquatic life in freshwater in representative industrialized countries. However, this is much higher than the definition of hypoxia typically used in marine systems (2-2.5 mg·l-1), indicating a need to reconcile definition of hypoxia in the marine environment with empirical data. The principal challenge in freshwater hypoxia management is now translating discretionary guidelines into effective regulatory frameworks to reduce the incidence and severity of hypoxia.

Short- and long-term effects of transfers on football clubs' sport performance

One of the important elements of football club quality management is the sale and purchase of player’s cards. These activities have important implications for the financial and sport performance of football clubs. The purpose of this paper is to determine how players transfers affect football teams’ sport performance. Data on transfers and sport performance came from available databases. They covered the period from 2004/05 to 2018/19 (before the pandemic). For data analysis, a series of hierarchical analysis of regression were conducted. The results show that there is an effect of transfers on football teams’ sport performance but it explains a relatively small amount of football club’s sport performance. The impact from a transfer in a given year affects sport performance not only in the same year, but also in subsequent years. However, the effect of transfer disappears when control variables are introduced. Thus, the general conclusion from the study is that there is no overall effect of transfers on teams’ sport performance. The analyses were conducted only on clubs from the 5 major European leagues and football clubs that were continuously present in the top division. Due to the fact that it included mainly the strongest clubs, the results are relevant for clubs wishing to build up their sporting position on the European market. It is less relevant for weaker clubs. The study consisted of using data over a period of several years, which provides an opportunity to trace the dynamics of change and long-term effects, which is rarely analyzed in the sports literature.

Pharmacoepidemiological analysis of medication consumption in a multidepartmental hospital as an element of medical care quality management and the basis for assessing import substitution

Objective: pharmacoepidemiological analysis of medication list used in a multidepartmental hospital.Material and methods. The material for the analysis was the costs of medications for the reporting period of 2017–2018. We used the tools of ABC/VEN analysis and import substitution assessment. The assessment of import substitution in a medical organization was carried out in comparison of 2018 with 2017 by the change in costs for various pharmacotherapeutic groups of medications in two segments (domestic and foreign production) in percentage terms.Results. The results of the analysis revealed, that the antibiotics are the largest volume of the cost structure for various pharmacotherapeutic groups: 18.8% in 2017 and 15.6% in 2018. The analysis of the medication list used in a medical organization, regarding to the production segment, showed that in 2017 22.6% was spent on domestic medications. In 2018, this indicator increased by 15.2% and amounted to 37.8%. The correct, regular distribution of groups V, E, N in groups A, B, C was revealed. More than 80% of group A consists of medications from group V of all monetary costs and the share of medication belonging to group N is less than 3%. In total, the cost of medications of groups V and E is more than 90%.Conclusion. The use of these methods allows to optimize the costs of medications provision for therapeutic and diagnostic processes and to improve pharmaceutical diseases therapy. In 2018, compared to 2017, there is a redistribution of the cost structure for medications towards an increase in the share of Russian-made medications. Given the lower cost of Russian medications compared to imported analogues, this approach will allow in the future to save the money of medical organizations with no deterioration in the quality of treatment.

Retracted: Quality management in higher education: Developing the methodology on the basis of total quality management

AbstractUnderstanding the needs of end users (customers, stakeholders) and the simultaneous application of new methodologies for the implementation of strategic plans in order to meet the needs of external (employers) and internal consumers (students and teachers) are essential elements of quality management in higher education. This article aimed to investigate the general state of modern quality management in higher education. A survey of consumers of educational services in Ukraine was conducted in order to study the current state of quality management in higher education. Interested parties’ theory and total quality management methodology in quality management of higher education served as the basis for the research methodology. The requirements of the administration and departments of higher educational institutions, students and employers in Ukraine to the quality of education were studied. Requirements for meeting the needs of consumers of educational services have been developed. During the study, the principle of ‘student‐centred learning’ and the protection of key interests of students were implemented. It was found that the quality of higher education in Ukraine is characterised by a significant level of dissatisfaction. An empirical assessment of the gap between expectations and actual experience of obtaining higher education was carried out and the discrepancy between education in Ukraine and the requirements of stakeholders was proved.

Sistemas de Gestão da Qualidade: estudo de correlação entre liderança e maturidade

abstract: Leadership is a key element of quality management, and, as such, it has been identified as an influential factor in the maturity of quality management systems (QMSs). Some of the previous studies on the relationship between leadership styles and QMS performance have argued that no universal best leadership style exists, stressing that leadership practices should be appropriate to the context. Thus, this research aims to further explore this relationship by considering the QMS context, namely the practitioners' leadership profile and the QMS maturity. Accordingly, the primary objectives of this study are 1) to understand if a leadership style is predominant depending on the QMS maturity and 2) to understand the relationship between the leadership practices of different styles and the dimensions of the QMS maturity. An exploratory quantitative study was developed in companies located in Portugal through a survey based on the maturity model developed by Nascimento et al. (2016) and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire®-5X Short Leader Form MLQ of Avolio and Bass (1995). The diagnosis disclosed that only 32% of the sample had a QMS with higher maturity levels (4 and 5, a scale of 1 to 5). The results highlighted that no single leadership style dominates a specific maturity level. Furthermore, a significant positive correlation was demonstrated between several practices of transformational and transactional leadership styles and the dimensions of QMS maturity. As a practical contribution, a guideline was provided with some examples of leadership practices and their impacts on the specific dimensions of QMS maturity. Some steps were also proposed to enable organisations to develop a tailored programme to foster leadership practices suitable to the internal context and promote QMS maturity.

Unlocking the black box between TQM practices and organisational performance through learning capability and market orientation: insight from Pakistan's textile sector

The enduring debate to resolve the intricacy between total quality management elements and performance is yet to be concluded. Relying on the resource-based view of the firm, the current study addresses this issue by adding organisation learning capability and market orientation as contingent factors between total quality management practices and performance. The data was collected from the managers of 270 textile firms through questionnaires. The results reveal that parallel mediation of both organisational learning capability and market orientation is fully supported. The current study extends the total quality management research and contributes by providing a new mechanism between the total quality management and organisational performance. These novel findings provide new dimensions for policymakers to consider motivational factors (learning orientation and market orientation) along with total quality management elements for elevating the performance of their organisations.

Elements of Quality Management in Software Process: A Formalised Approach

A software project is commenced to accomplish according to the plan and allocated budget that should satisfy users’ requirements and integrate quality factors. But, till now significant numbers of software projects delivered without obligatory functionalities and qualities. Informal practice in communication, documentation, and management show weakness in time control, change control, and risk mitigation; as a result, the project exceeds time, budget, and scope. This paper proposes a formalized approach for software project management with embedded quality elements. This formalized approach is validated by 34 professionals and found that it is suitable for medium to large projects for any standard organization. In addition, an expert has compared the model by analytical hierarchy process with commonly used methodologies and found that it is better in terms of scope, schedule, risk, resources, documentation, instance change, quality, and human management besides sustainability practice. The quality management is formalized in such a way that encourages the practice of international standardization guidelines to continuous improvement of the project handling processes that would improve the quality of products.

Implementing Total Quality management practices and Employee Performance: Sanita - Lebanon

The aim of the study is find out the impact of applying different total quality management (TQM) practices on the performance of employees in the Lebanese industrial sector. The implementation of total quality management in Lebanese companies is very narrow where few companies work to apply Total Quality Management elements and concepts in its operations. Sanita is a Lebanese company that has applied the principles of total quality management relatively in all of its operations, so it has a large share of its products in the Lebanese market. In this quantitative survey designed study, 160 self-administered questionnaires were distributed for employees working at different career level (Top level management / Middle level management / Supervisor / Operator /technician / other workers) in Sanita main branch (Halat -Lebanon) and Sanita factory (Zouk Mosbeh -Lebanon). The survey concluded various questions related to the dependent variable employee performance and the independent variable related to practices of total quality management (leadership, teamwork, training and education, empowerment, communication). Using the quantitative correlation Pearson test, a strong influence emerged for the implementation of TQM principles on the performance of employees at Sanita and its factories; thus accepting the main alternative hypothesis.

Risk identification and assessment in production of meat product packaging

Production of convenient and inexpensive packaging materials is increasing due to the constant growth of consumer demand for safer food products. The paper examines the questions dedicated to the development and introduction of the safety and quality management system in enterprises producing packaging for the meat industry. The authors analyze the elements of safety and quality management for polypropylene packaging in a form of a tray, which is a final element of the united chain in production of whole-piece meat semi-finished products. The investigations were carried out in the operating enterprise in the Moscow region. Hazardous factors in production of polypropylene packaging were identified, risk analysis with assessment of the probability of emergence and realization of hazardous factors was carried out, a Pareto chart was built, unacceptable risks were determined, critical control points (CCP) were revealed, preventive and corrective measures were developed with account for the established critical limits and requirements for CCP monitoring were formulated. All stages of production process were subjected to risk analysis; the severity of consequences from hazardous factor realization and the probability of such realization were assessed by experts for each of these stages. It was established that “injection molding and chilling in a press-mold” is a CCT as there is a risk of increasing the maximum allowable concentrations of chemical substances and compounds (formaldehyde, ethyl acetate, alcohols and others) as a chemical factor with the severity of consequences of 3 and the probability of realization of 3. Using the Pareto chart, causes that had the highest effects on safety and quality of polypropylene packaging were grouped. It was established that nonobservance of preventive maintenance schedule for equipment and, as a consequence, possible equipment failure (80%) influenced to the higher degree the realization of chemical hazardous factor.

CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (CQI) PRACTICE IN VOCATIONAL COLLEGES

Continuous quality improvement (CQI) is an important element in quality management. This is because CQI is a key factor in improving the quality of education and ensuring that improvements in teaching and learning activities are continuously implemented. The implementation of CQI in Vocational Colleges (VCs) is increasingly being carried out in line with the application of the outcome-based learning (OBE) approach. However, reports from the board of accreditation showed differences in CQI practices for several programs under the same institution. Thus, this study can give a clear picture of CQI practice in VCs. This study was conducted to identify CQI practices in VCs and make comparisons of practice based on demographic factors namely gender, age, and teaching field. This survey-based study used questionnaires as a research instrument. The respondents of the study consisted of 87 VCs lecturers in the states of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was used to attain the practice level and make comparisons on demographic factors. The findings of the study found that the practice of CQI in VCs was at a high level. However, there were significant differences based on demographic factors for the age group in the dimensions of customer focus and teamwork. This study could provide input to the Vocational Educational and Training Department (BPLTV) on the practice of CQI in VCs. With this input, actions and improvement measures can be planned and implemented to improve VCs. Therefore, it is hoped that this study could be a platform for improvement in VCs quality management.
