Vibration characteristics of industrial robot joint servo transmission system based on electromechanical coupling

The complex electromechanical coupling effect of an industrial robot’s electromechanical system significantly influences the dynamic characteristics and stability of the joint servo transmission system. This study proposes a kind of electromechanical coupling dynamic model for the industrial robot’s joint servo transmission system, incorporating multiple parameters, and investigates the vibration response characteristics of the system. Firstly, an electromechanical coupling analysis of the industrial robot’s joint servo transmission system is conducted, simplifying it as a ‘motor-reducer-load’ system and establishing the corresponding electromechanical coupling vibration mathematical model. Secondly, a dynamic model of the robot’s joint servo transmission system is developed to analyze its speed characteristics. Finally, the model is used to analyze the electromechanical coupling vibration process of the joint servo transmission system with the introduction of mechanical and electrical parameters and other factors to obtain the vibration characteristics of the industrial robot joint servo transmission system under electromechanical coupling. The experimental results show that this model can better analyze the electromechanical coupling vibration characteristics of the joint servo transmission system, which is significant for improving the performance and fault traceability of the industrial robot joint transmission.

A piezoelectric–electromagnetic hybrid energy harvester inspired by flapping motion of the Diptera insect

Low-frequency vibration is widespread in nature. Vibration energy harvesting is considered to be a reliable and sustainable method to achieve continuous power supply. It is a feasible method to design an energy harvesting system of the bio-inspired mechanical structure to improve the efficiency of energy harvesting. A hybrid energy harvester piezoelectric–electromagnetic that mimics the flapping wing motion of the Diptera insect. The biomimetic energy harvesting device consists of two piezoelectric cantilever beams structure with the mass block installed, which mimics the flapping movement mechanism of the Diptera insect. The intermediate part of this harvester inspired by the insect skeleton and muscle structure of the Diptera insect is composed of magnetic levitation coupled repulsion structure, which is easily affected by vibration and changes greatly, to realize electromagnetic energy harvesting. The ‘click’ mechanism of the Diptera insect is constructed by storing energy in springs to improve the performance of energy harvesting devices. The hybrid energy harvesting device realizes piezoelectric–electromagnetic energy harvesting with multiple energy outputs at one excitation input. A dynamic model of the proposed energy harvester is constructed based on the electromechanical coupling characteristics. The modal analysis and structure optimization of this device is realized by the finite element method (FEM). The FEM simulation and experimental results can verify that under the low-frequency excitation of 3 Hz, the maximum output power of the designed harvester reaches 12.33 mW in the low-frequency environment.

Effect of electric impedance on the electromechanical characteristics of tunable spherical piezoelectric transducer

Spherical piezoelectric transducers are a critical component of ultrasonic vibration systems with significant applications in various practical scenarios such as underwater acoustic detection and structural health monitoring. The existing spherical piezoelectric transducers have fixed electromechanical characteristics that limit their applications in scenarios with multi-frequency or frequency variation requirements. It would therefore be intriguing, from the viewpoints of both science and technology, to break through this limit by introducing external electric load impedance. Here we propose a tunable spherical piezoelectric transducer (TSPT) capable of adjusting the electromechanical characteristics by changing the resistance, inductance, and capacitance applied to the passive piezoceramic shell. The theoretical and numerical results show that when the resistance is exerted on the inner and outer piezoceramic shells, the resonance is accompanied by large variations at low values of resistance, while it becomes almost constant at high values of resistance. When the inductance is exerted on the outer piezoceramic shell, the resonance frequency obtained by the finite element method can be changed from 72730 Hz to 42928 Hz by adjusting the inductance, indicating that the TSPT can realize a rich and selective resonance frequency region. The resonance/antiresonance frequency decreases while the effective electromechanical coupling coefficient increases, when the capacitance applied on the inner and outer piezoceramic shells increases. The experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed TSPT, which is in agreement with the simulated results and theoretical predictions. Our methodology will offer possibilities to extend the working frequency range of the existing piezoelectric spherical transducer for underwater acoustic detection, hydrophones, and the spherical smart aggregate for civil structural health monitoring.

Systematic design and experimental realization of a radially cascaded spherical piezoelectric transducer.

As a critical component of ultrasonic vibration systems, piezoelectric transducers play an essential role in various practical application scenarios. Recent advances in spherical transducers have been widely used in underwater sound and structural health monitoring, while the cascaded spherical piezoelectric transducer with arbitrary piezoceramic shell thickness has not been investigated. Here, we propose a radially cascaded spherical piezoelectric transducer (RCSPT) and derive its electromechanical equivalent circuit with mechanical losses, dielectric losses, and load mechanical impedances. The resulting device is composed of three concentric spherical metal shells and two radially polarized spherical piezoceramic shells. The underlying physical mechanism is the inverse piezoelectric effect, which converts electrical signals into mechanical vibrations. The effects of the spherical piezoceramic shell's thickness and location on the RCSPT are studied. We also analyze the effects of mechanical losses, dielectric losses, and load mechanical impedances on the modulus of input electric impedance of the cascaded spherical transducer. The experiments are conducted to verify the electromechanical characteristics of the resulting device, which are in good agreement with the simulated results and theoretical predictions. Our methodology will offer new possibilities for designing RCSPTs and may promote applications in various fields, such as underwater acoustic detection and structural health monitoring.

Celeriac as ionphore for green Co+2 selective PVC membrane electrode by experimental and theoretical investigation

Environmental pollution of heavy metals is increasingly becoming a problem and has become of great concern due to the adverse effects it is causing around the world. Many techniques were applied to detect, to determine and to remove. In this study, a simple electrochemical methods was used. The preparation of a novel PVC membrane green sensor was conducted for the Co+2 ion considering the Celeriac alcoholic extract. The sensor has a 29.5 mV decade−1 Nernstian slope within an extensive range of linear concentrations from 0.38 × 10−3 to 0.08 × 10−3 while possessing a 0.03 × 10−4. M detection limit. The response time reported for the proposed sensor is < 10 s, and it is useable for a minimum period of one month with no significant potential divergence. The potentiometric response independence from the test solution pH was also confirmed at pH ranges of 5.8–11. The introduced electrode is appropriately selective in various transition metal ions. The reactivity (chemical and electromechanical) characteristics, including electronegativity, electrophilicity, chemical potential, band gap, softness, and hardness were calculated using the DFT technique. As shown by the results, the apijin was highly reactive in different Celeriac compounds.

Flexible Wearable Strain Sensors Based on Laser-Induced Graphene for Monitoring Human Physiological Signals.

Flexible wearable strain sensors based on laser-induced graphene (LIG) have attracted significant interest due to their simple preparation process, three-dimensional porous structure, excellent electromechanical characteristics, and remarkable mechanical robustness. In this study, we demonstrated that LIG with various defects could be prepared on the surface of polyimide (PI) film, patterned in a single step by adjusting the scanning speed while maintaining a constant laser power of 12.4 W, and subjected to two repeated scans under ambient air conditions. The results indicated that LIG produced at a scanning speed of 70 mm/s exhibited an obvious stacked honeycomb micropore structure, and the flexible strain sensor fabricated with this material demonstrated stable resistance. The sensor exhibited high sensitivity within a low strain range of 0.4-8.0%, with the gauge factor (GF) reaching 107.8. The sensor demonstrated excellent stability and repeatable response at a strain of 2% after approximately 1000 repetitions. The flexible wearable LIG-based sensor with a serpentine bending structure could be used to detect various physiological signals, including pulse, finger bending, back of the hand relaxation and gripping, blinking eyes, smiling, drinking water, and speaking. The results of this study may serve as a reference for future applications in health monitoring, medical rehabilitation, and human-computer interactions.

Electromechanical and thermophysical processes in the pulse induction accelerator of plasma formation

Introduction. Work on the creation and throwing of plasma formations is carried out in the world's leading scientific centers in various ways. The creation of a plasma formation with duration of several milliseconds and its acceleration in an open atmospheric environment to a distance of 0.5-0.6 m was achieved. To create plasma, the energy of the primary discharge circuit is used, followed by the acceleration of the gas-plasma formation with the help of the energy of the secondary circuit. Plasma formation is also obtained due to the electric explosion of a conductor in a rapidly decreasing strong magnetic field, etc. The purpose of the article is a theoretical and experimental study of electromechanical and thermophysical processes in a pulsed induction accelerator, which ensures the creation of plasma formation due to thermal ionization as a result of the electric explosion of the conductor and its throwing in the atmospheric environment relative to the inductor. Method. For the analysis of electromechanical and thermophysical processes in the pulse induction accelerator of plasma formation (IIPP), a mathematical model of the accelerator was developed and implemented in the Сomsol Multiphysics software package, in which the anchor does not change its shape and aggregate state during operation and takes into account the parameters of the accelerator distributed in space. Results. Calculated electromechanical and thermal characteristics of the accelerator. It is shown that the temperature rise in the aluminum foil anchor is significantly uneven. The maximum temperature value occurs in the middle part of the foil closer to the outer edge, and this temperature is significantly higher than the boiling point of aluminum. Scientific novelty. Experimental studies of the IIPP were carried out, in which the armature is made of aluminum and copper foil, and the inductor connected to the high-voltage capacitive energy storage device is made in the form of a flat disk spiral. It was established that during the operation of the IIPP, the armature goes into a plasma state and moves vertically upwards, turning into a three-dimensional lump or a pile of small particles that rose to a considerable height relative to the inductor. Experimentally, the characteristic circular circuit of thermal heating of the copper foil of the anchor, which is fixed on a glass-textolite sheet, is shown, which indicates a similar nature of plasma formation. Practical value. The results of experimental studies with an accuracy of up to 15 % coincide with the calculated ones and show the validity of the IIPP concept, in which, due to the high density of the induced current in the armature, thermal ionization occurs as a result of an electric explosion of the conductor with its transition to the plasma state. And the interaction of the plasma formation with the magnetic field of the inductor leads to the appearance of an electrodynamic force that ensures its movement in the open atmospheric environment.

Electromechanical and biological evaluations of 0.94Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3–0.06BaTiO3 as a lead-free piezoceramic for implantable bioelectronics

Smart implantable electronic medical devices are being developed to deliver healthcare that is more connected, personalised, and precise. Many of these implantables rely on piezoceramics for sensing, communication, energy autonomy, and biological stimulation, but the piezoceramics with the strongest piezoelectric coefficients are almost exclusively lead-based. In this article, we evaluate the electromechanical and biological characteristics of a lead-free alternative, 0.94Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3–0.06BaTiO3 (BNT-6BT), manufactured via two synthesis routes: the conventional solid-state method (PIC700) and tape casting (TC-BNT-6BT). The BNT-6BT materials exhibited soft piezoelectric properties, with d33 piezoelectric coefficients that were inferior to commonly used PZT (PIC700: 116 pC/N; TC-BNT-6BT: 121 pC/N; PZT-5A: 400 pC/N). The material may be viable as a lead-free substitute for soft PZT where moderate performance losses up to 10 dB are tolerable, such as pressure sensing and pulse-echo measurement. No short-term harmful biological effects of BNT-6BT were detected and the material was conducive to the proliferation of MC3T3-E1 murine preosteoblasts. BNT-6BT could therefore be a viable material for electroactive implants and implantable electronics without the need for hermetic sealing.

Electro-mechanical vibro-acoustic characteristics of submerged functionally graded piezoelectric plates with general boundary conditions

The present paper focuses on studying the underwater electro-mechanical vibro-acoustic characteristics of functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) plates with general boundary conditions. For this purpose, the collocation points method is firstly developed to handle vibro-acoustic coupling, which can directly calculate the virtual work of secondary sound pressure via an easy double integral, without pre-simplifying the complex quadruple integral. The proposed FGPM plate model is established in the framework of first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and second type constitutive equations of piezoelectric materials, and the macroscopically inhomogeneous electro-mechanical properties are considered by means of Voigt model. The multi-physical fields including electric, mechanical and acoustic fields are uniformly extended in Chebyshev polynomials. Meanwhile, penalty function method is introduced to satisfy the arbitrary mechanical and electric constraints. All energy formulations are processed by Rayleigh-Ritz procedure and a standard governing equation is finally derived. Based on the proposed unified model, the convergence and accuracy for solving vibration and acoustic radiation of FGPM plates are validated firstly. Additionally, the influence of some key parameters on underwater vibro-acoustic characteristics of FGPM plates is fully examined. The results of this paper may provide a reference for future application of FGPM-based smart structures.

Design of PDMS/CNT flexible pressure sensor based on double structure with the regulation of electrical properties

Introducing microstructure on the surface or porous structure inside of dielectric layer can improve the sensitivity and monitoring range of the flexible pressure sensor. However, developing pressure sensors with high sensitivity in the high-pressure range is challenging because of the trade-off between sensitivity and linearity of pressure. Here, we report a design approach based on the collaboration of double structure and electrical characteristics that can improve sensor sensitivity at high pressure. The surface microstructural and internal porous structure of the dielectric layer provide a more comprehensive deformation range for the sensor from a mechanical perspective. The effects of the conductive carbon nanotube (CNT) content between two structures on the overall electromechanical characteristics of the sensor were studied. This collaborative (structure and component) design can effectively increase the monitoring range of the sensor and accomplish “gear shifting” of the sensitivity by the non-uniform distribution of CNT in the structure. The optimized capacitive pressure sensor exhibits outstanding sensitivity over a wide monitoring range (1.17 kPa−1 in the 0−100 kPa, 0.49 kPa−1 in the 100−350 kPa, and 0.23 kPa−1 in the 350−1000 kPa), and fast response capability (30 ms). The pressure sensor has excellent integrated sensing performance in rubber wheels' static/dynamic pressure monitoring, demonstrating application potential in high-pressure fields.

A Multifunctional Characterization Test Bench for Shape Memory Alloy Micro-Wires-Design, Implementation and Validation.

Most relevant to predicting the behavior of shape-memory-alloy (SMA)-based actuator-sensor applications activated by Joule heating are the electro-mechanical characteristics of the material under consideration. For a comprehensive characterization, a single setup that is able to provide all relevant data and information is desirable. This work covers the design, implementation and validation of such a high-end test bench for the holistic characterization of SMA micro-wires. In addition, the setup provides the possibility of application simulation experiments. Key elements of the design are the clamping mechanism guided on air bearings, a linear direct drive, a high-resolution load cell, a high-precision constant current source and a stress-controlled in-line wire sample installation. All measurements take place inside an isolated, temperature-controlled chamber. With the presented setup, the electro-mechanical and thermal characteristics of SMA wire samples with diameters from 20 µm to 100 µm can be determined. Via hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) implementation, the outputs with different biasing mechanisms and additional end-stops can be simulated even at high ambient temperatures. The generated results facilitate the prediction of the exact characteristics of SMA-driven actuator-sensor systems in a variety of applications and lead to a better general understanding of the alloy's properties. All functionalities and features of the setup are presented by discussing the results of exemplary experiments.

Low-level control with actuator dynamics for multirotor UAVs

PurposeA low-level controller is critical to the overall performance of multirotor unmanned aerial vehicles. The purpose of this paper is to propose a nonlinear low-level angular velocity controller for multirotor unmanned aerial vehicles in various operating conditions (e.g. different speed and different mode).Design/methodology/approachTo tackle the above challenge, the authors have designed a nonlinear low-level controller taking the actuator dynamics into account. The authors first build the actuator subsystem by combining the actuator dynamics with the angular velocity dynamics model. Then, a recursive low-level controller is developed by designing a high-gain observer to estimate unmeasurable states. Furthermore, a detailed stability analysis is given with the Lyapunov theory.FindingsSimulation tests and real-world flying experiments are provided to validate the proposed approach. In particular, we illustrate the performance of the proposed controller using violent random command test, attitude mode flight and high-speed flight of up to 18.7 m/s in real world. Compared with the classical method used in PX4 autopilot and the estimation-based incremental nonlinear dynamic inversion method, experimental results show that the proposed method can further reduce the control error.Research limitations/implicationsLow-level control of multirotor UAVs is challenging due to the complex dynamic characteristics of UAVs and the diversity of tasks. Although some progress has been made, the performance of existing methods will deteriorate as operating conditions change due to the disregard for the electromechanical characteristics of the actuator.Originality/valueTo solve the low-level angular velocity control problem in various operating conditions of multirotor UAVs, this paper proposes a nonlinear low-level angular velocity controller which takes the actuator dynamics into account.

Thermoelectromechanical behavior of three-dimensional layered piezoelectric viscoelastic cylindrical panel under forced vibrations

The paper presents a numerical technique for solving problems of forced vibrations and dissipative heating of viscoelastic three-dimensional piezoelectric bodies of revolution. Finding a solution to such problems is reduced to solving a sequence of linear problems of electroviscoelasticity with complex electromechanical characteristics and problems of non-stationary thermal conductivity with a known heat source. The developed technique for solving the specified linear problems of electromechanics and heat conduction is based on the method of finite elements in the variational formulation. The results of numerical modeling of the thermoelectromechanical behavior of a three-layer viscoelastic piezoelectric cylindrical panel in the case of rigid fixation of its ends under mechanical harmonic loading are presented. The influence of the magnitude of the mechanical load on the amplitude-frequency and temperature-frequency characteristics in the vicinity of the first resonance was investigated.

A new approach to design line start permanent magnet synchronous motors

&lt;span lang="EN-US"&gt;The article describes a new approach to line start permanent magnet synchronous motors (LSPMSM) design process. This different, novel approach is based on the modification of mass-produced induction motors. The presented method facilitates and expedites the electrical motor design process. A field-circuit model of the motor has been created to expound the methodology of the process. Then, the machine's geometry was changed to apply permanent magnets. The problems and benefits associated with the use of permanent magnets were described. The created model was tested. The authors examined the operation of the LSPMSM motor in different states, such as starting, no-load, and blocked-rotor tests. Electromechanical characteristics have been plotted. The simulation results were compared with the parameters and characteristics of the induction motor. The conducted tests proved the correctness of the design process. The operational properties of the motor have been improved. Moreover, the validity of using LSPMSM motors instead of induction motors has also been demonstrated.&lt;/span&gt;

Research on Dynamic Modeling and Parameter Identification of the Grid-Connected PV Power Generation System

With the increasing proportion of renewable energy in the new power system, the grid-connected capacity of photovoltaic (PV) units shows an obvious upward trend, but its dynamic behavior under different penetration rates significantly affects the transient stability of the power system, so it is crucial to establish a dynamic model that meets the actual working conditions and select a suitable parameter identification method. Therefore, in this paper, based on the electromechanical transient characteristics of the grid-connected PV power generation system, the corresponding dynamic discrete equivalent model is established, and the simulation platform of the grid-connected PV power generation system is built in MATLAB/Simulink to study the adaptability of the dynamic discrete equivalent model of the grid-connected PV power generation system from the single and multiple scenarios using the ordinary least squares (OLS) and bat algorithm (BA) while comparing the generalization ability of the parameters identified by the two methods to the model. The simulation results show that the generalization ability of the parameters identified by the OLS and BA for the model in the single scenario is better, indicating that the model has good adaptability; the generalization ability of a set of general parameters identified by the BA for the model in the multiple scenarios is better than that of the OLS, indicating that the parameters identified by the BA have better adaptability. In conclusion, the dynamic discrete equivalent model of the grid-connected PV power generation system proposed in this paper can accurately reflect the dynamic characteristics of the grid-connected PV power generation system, and the parameters identified by the BA are more generalized than the OLS.

Mechano‐Triboelectric Transduction of Sliding‐Mode Nanogenerators with Magnetic Pre‐Stress

AbstractStudies on the enhancement of output performance are widely presented based on the theory of output characteristics for sliding‐mode triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs). However, few studies are reported to investigate the electromechanical coupling of the external force onto the S‐TENG due to its fuzzy influence on electrical performance. In order to study the effect of the pre‐stress on S‐TENGs, in this work, a novel strategy of adding flexible magnet layers in the S‐TENG is first proposed to study the electrification and coupling effect induced by magnetic pre‐stress (or magnetically stresses triboelectric nanogenerator, MS‐TENG) both theoretically and experimentally. The electromechanical characteristic of the MS‐TENG is theoretically studied by introducing the magnetic pre‐stress coefficient. Considering the effect of the magnetic pre‐stress, load resistances, and sliding frequency on MS‐TENG at a low sliding speed, the relevant output performance of the MS‐TENG is derived through the equivalent circuit model. Furthermore, the corresponding experiments are conducted and the experimental results present a good agreement with the theoretical calculations, which effectively reveal the principle of the magnetic pre‐stress on the MS‐TENG. This work is aimed at providing a theoretical description with validations on the effect of external pre‐stresses on the performance enhancement of S‐TENGs.

The frequency-dependent polarization switching in nanograined BaTiO3 films under high-strength electric field

ABSTRACT The polarization reorientation in ferroelectric nanomaterials under high-strength AC electric fields is intrinsically a frequency-dependent process. However, the related study is not widely seen. We report a phase-field investigation regarding the dynamics of polarization switching and the electromechanical characteristics of a polycrystalline BaTiO3 nanofilm under applied frequency from 0.1 to 80 kHz. The grain boundaries and the in-plane strains are considered in the model. The obtained hysteresis and butterfly loops exhibit a remarkable variety of shapes with the changing frequency. The underlying mechanism for the observed frequency-dependent physical properties was discussed via domain structure-based analysis. In addition, we examined the influence of the kinetic coefficient in the Ginzburg-Landau equation as well as the influence of the electric-field amplitude to the frequency dependency. It was found that a higher value of kinetic coefficient or field amplitude tends to enhance the mobility of polarization switching and to transform high-frequency characteristics to low-frequency ones.

Electromechanical dynamic analysis for powertrain of off-grid switched-reluctance wind turbine hydrogen production system

Research on hydrogen production from wind power is important for improving wind energy utilization and hydrogen production efficiency; however, research on switched-reluctance hydrogen production from wind power has been relatively limited, and its system operation characteristics are unclear. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on the electromechanical coupling characteristics of switched-reluctance wind turbine hydrogen production systems (WTHPSs). An electromechanical dynamic model was established for the powertrain of an off-grid switched-reluctance WTHPS, including wind turbine, gear transmission system, switched-reluctance generator (SRG), and hydrogen production devices (HPDs). The model considers the detailed characteristics of the gear system, the nonlinear physical details of the HPD, and the electromagnetic characteristics of the generator. An improved control strategy was also developed for the SRG to reduce torque fluctuation. The steady- and transient-state electromechanical characteristics were simulated and analyzed, and the influences of the SRG control strategy and HPD switching on the system dynamic characteristics and hydrogen production rate were investigated. First, with respect to the improved SRG control strategy, the results show that SRG torque fluctuation can be reduced. The influence of the SRG electromagnetic torque on the transmission system gradually decreases from the high-speed stage to the low-speed stage. However, for a sudden decrease in wind speed, the SRG with the improved control strategy tracks the reference speed more slowly. Second, with respect to the hydrogen production rate, almost no difference can be observed between the two SRG control strategies. Single and multiple HPDs have a slight effect on the dynamic characteristics of the system when the HPDs can consume all the generated power. The production rate of HPDs in a parallel connection is higher than that with a single device at the same power, and the difference increases with an increase in power.

Effect of Vulcanization on the Electro-Mechanical Sensing Characteristics of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube/Silicone Rubber Composites.

In order to realize effective monitoring for the working performance of seismic isolation structures, a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/methyl vinyl silicone rubber (VMQ) composite was prepared via mechanical blending using dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butyl peroxy)hexane (DBPMH) as vulcanizing agents. The effects of the different vulcanizing agents on the dispersion of the MWCNT, electrical conductivity, mechanical properties, and resistance-strain response of the composites were investigated. The experimental results showed that the percolation threshold of the composites prepared with the two vulcanizing agents was low, while the DCP-vulcanized composites showed high mechanical properties and a better resistance-strain response sensitivity and stability, especially after 15,000 loading cycles. According to the analysis using scanning electron microscopy and Fourier infrared spectroscopy, it was found that the DCP contributed higher vulcanization activity, a denser cross-linking network, better and uniform dispersion, and a more stable damage-reconstruction mechanism for the MWCNT network during the deformation load. Thus, the DCP-vulcanized composites showed better mechanical performance and electrical response abilities. When employing an analytical model based on the tunnel effect theory, the mechanism of the resistance-strain response was explained, and the potential of this composite for real-time strain monitoring for large deformation structures was confirmed.

Performance evaluation of graphite-integrated smart-engineered cementitious composite for health monitoring of structural components

This research explores the electro-mechanical characteristics of graphite powder (GP) integrated Self-Sensing Cement Composite (SCC). In addition to the development, the created SCC is used in beams and columns to evaluate their structural performance under flexural and compressive load, respectively. Field Element Scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) analysis is conducted to examine the morphological characteristics of the optimized SCC. X-Ray diffraction (XRD) analysis is used to examine the formation of chemical constituents responsible for the property variation. The research findings indicate that the resistivity of composites containing 25% GP is lowered by 43.90%. Due to the hydrophilicity between GP and cement, the strength of SCC is lowered as the concentration of GP increases. The SCC embedded in the flexural zone of beams has the capacity to detect deformation with an accuracy of 98%. The electrical resistivity of SCC in columns rapidly decreases with increasing deflection as a result of SCC compression, indicating that SCC can monitor column deformation with an efficiency of about 96% up until the elastic regime. After characterization, strength, and resistivity evaluations, GP is finally validated as a promising material for SCC development and application in structural health monitoring.
