This year’s DEIS fully sponsored EIC was held June 7 to 10 at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel, Seattle. On Sunday, June 7, a DEIS-sponsored workshop on the effect of smart grid technologies on plant health was organized by the DEIS Smart Grid Technical Committee and featured invited contributions from Vic Catterson (University of Strathclyde, UK), James Pilgrim (University of Southampton, UK), Jerome Castellon (Universite de Montpelier, France), Brian Sparling (Dynamic Ratings Inc., USA), Gian Carlo Montanari (University of Bologna, Italy), Kaori Fukanaga (NIICT, Japan), Peter Morshuis and Armando Rodrigo Mor (Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands). As is the tradition with the EIC, short courses were also organized on the Sunday of the conference; this year the three courses were Forensic Analysis of Insulation System Failures delivered by Howard Penrose, Dreisilker Electric Motors Inc., USA; Insulation Condition Monitoring and Incipient Fault Diagnosis of Power Cables with Case Studies delivered by Charles Su, Newcastle University, UK; Stator Winding Design, Manufacturing, Installation and Testing for Rotating Equipment delivered by Nancy Frost, Gerome Technologies, USA, with Inna Kremza, Voith Hydro, Canada, and Charles Millet, Hydro-Quebec, Canada.
