Analysis of Chemistry Interest Level in Merdeka Curriculum Implementation at SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak

Elective subject is the flagship program of Merdeka Curriculum..The elective subject program is based on students’ interest, talents, and aspirations. Therefore, students’ interest level in chemistry, as one of the options for elective subject program is a necessary to determined. This study aims to determine the level of student interest in choosing chemistry as an elective subject, so that teachers could find the best alternatives to increase students’ interest. The research was conducted with quantitative analysis methods and descriptive statistical approaches, using 139 students of grade 11th who have chosen chemistry as the elective subject. The level of students’ interest in chemistry is measured by students’ interest questionnaire. The questionnaire was adopted and developed by aspects of students’ interest: teachers’ role, students’ perception, students’ intrinsic motivation in learning, and meaningful learning of lesson. Content validation test using Aiken formula showed the questionnaire validity is very high, as value 1. Based on the analysis, the result stated that the level of students’ interest was included as high category with 76,11%. All aspects are categorized as high, aspects of the teacher's role in learning with 77.44%, students’ perceptions with 73.63%, students’ intrinsic motivation 78.99% and the meaningfulness of learning lesson with 74.37%.

Transforming the Future of Digital Health Education: Redesign of a Graduate Program Using Competency Mapping.

Digital transformation has disrupted many industries but is yet to revolutionize health care. Educational programs must be aligned with the reality that goes beyond developing individuals in their own professions, professionals wishing to make an impact in digital health will need a multidisciplinary understanding of how business models, organizational processes, stakeholder relationships, and workforce dynamics across the health care ecosystem may be disrupted by digital health technology. This paper describes the redesign of an existing postgraduate program, ensuring that core digital health content is relevant, pedagogically sound, and evidence-based, and that the program provides learning and practical application of concepts of the digital transformation of health. Existing subjects were mapped to the American Medical Informatics Association Clinical Informatics Core Competencies, followed by consultation with leadership to further identify gaps or opportunities to revise the course structure. New additions of core and elective subjects were proposed to align with the competencies. Suitable electives were chosen based on stakeholder feedback and a review of subjects in fields relevant to digital transformation of health. The program was revised with a new title, course overview, course intended learning outcomes, reorganizing of core subjects, and approval of new electives, adding to a suite of professional development offerings and forming a structured pathway to further qualification. Programs in digital health must move beyond purely informatics-based competencies toward enabling transformational change. Postgraduate program development in this field is possible within a short time frame with the use of established competency frameworks and expert and student consultation.

Importance and Didactic Conditions of Teaching the Pedagogical Heritage of Beyimbet Maylin

The article analyzes the pedagogical heritage of Beyimbet Maylin, which has not yet entered scientific circulation, and has not been noticed by methodologists-scientists, and their importance in the development of domestic science is evaluated. For the first time, four educational books written by Beyimbet Maylin, a prominent writer, who have their own place in Kazakh literature, are being studied. In the study, the ways of studying the history of the writing of textbooks left behind by the writer, introducing their content-structural system to future philology teachers were differentiated. Providing information about the history of the formation of domestic textbook science, the possibilities of forming professional-cognitive and research competences of students are analyzed. The main idea in the research work is that students need to effectively use new educational technologies and interactive teaching methods during the analysis of historical heritage, because this, in turn, expands the opportunities for improving the quality of professional education of students. The scientific importance of the article is demonstrated by the unified methodological system of applied teaching and the analysis of educational materials and the effectiveness of using their selection criteria in the organization of students' project work, in the performance of complex text analysis tasks. This proves the innovativeness of the proposed research work, dedicated to a new topic. The article analyzes the effective ways of presenting textbooks written by Beyimbet Maylin to philology students, systematizes the technological conditions. During the pedagogical experiment, it is planned to develop students' professional qualifications related to theoretical and historical-pedagogical heritage, critical thinking skills related to educational materials. They are followed by analyzing the progress and results of work included in one module of a special elective subject. Such complexity ensures the integrity of the research results presented in the article and the reliability of the proposed principles. Historical-pedagogical, system-typological, genre-style analyzes were used in the research work in conjunction with teaching technologies in accordance with modern requirements. The results of the study fully demonstrated the effectiveness of this unit.

This study attempted to analyze the characteristics of the mathematics curriculum of eight domestic science gifted schools to derive implications to consider when organizing the mathematics curriculum of domestic gifted schools in the future. To achieve this, the study compared the content elements of mathematics subjects offered in science high schools for gifted students with those structured according to the 2022 revised mathematics curriculum. Additionally, an analysis was conducted on the content elements of Advanced Placement (AP) subjects and other subjects that, while not included in the 2022 revised mathematics curriculum, are additionally studied at these science high schools. The analysis revealed that the mathematics curriculum in science high schools for gifted students showed a relatively low reflection rate of content elements included in the 2022 revised mathematics curriculum, such as <Discrete Mathematics>, <Practical Statistics>, and <Advanced Geometry>. Moreover, there was a noticeable lack of the <Probability and Statistics> subject in the AP curriculum. The study also highlighted the need for a comprehensive review of the content covered in <Linear Algebra> and <Differential Equations> when organizing future curricula. Furthermore, a comparative analysis of the curricula in three international science high schools for gifted students indicated that these institutions generally offer more credit hours and a wider variety of elective subjects, thus ensuring greater flexibility and broader learning opportunities for students. This suggests that the organization and operation of the mathematics curriculum in domestic science high schools for gifted students should embrace more flexibility and openness to effectively nurture mathematical talents.

Evaluation of students’ performance in elective mathematics: The effect of high school students’ perceived difficulty of the subject

Perception has been attributed as a major cause of students' weakness in mathematics. Hence, this study evaluates its effect on student’s performance in the area of mathematics as an elective subject in some selected Senior High School (SHS) in Ghana. Mixed method research design that employed questionnaire with closed-ended and open-ended items were used in the collection of the data. Stratified sampling technique was used in selecting 300 students as sample for the study. Descriptive statistics and Multiple regression were used to analyse the quantitative data. Again, thematic analysis was used for the qualitative data. The findings showed that, SHS students perceived elective mathematics as a difficult subject. Nonetheless, they perceived the teacher-learner activities employed by their teachers in elective mathematics classroom as motivating. Further, they perceived as constructive, the teaching methods used by their elective mathematics teachers. In addition, the study revealed that students’ performance in elective mathematics was not significantly influenced by their perceived difficulty of elective mathematics, teacher motivation and teaching methods although the students expressed favourable dispositions towards these attributes. Thus, the need for Heads of High Schools, to do background check of students’ prior performance, interest and motivation in mathematics as a prerequisite condition for students to pursue elective mathematics is implied in this study. This could stem the tide in the students’ abysmal performance in elective mathematics. Implications for policy, practice and further research are discussed.

LGBTQIA+ healthcare content in pre-registration nursing and midwifery curricula: A cross-sectional study

BackgroundNurses and midwives are expected to provide inclusive care for LGBTQIA+ populations. However, there is a paucity of knowledge on how well-prepared nursing and midwifery graduates are for this aspect of their role. AimTo explore LGBTQIA+ content in pre-registration nursing and midwifery curricula in Australia. DesignCross-sectional study. SettingsAustralian higher education institutions offering 86 pre-registration nursing and midwifery programs. SamplePublicly available pre-registration nursing and midwifery course programs in Australia as presented in the online course handbooks of 25 randomly selected educational institutions. MethodsA LGBTQIA+ terminology matrix was developed to guide data extraction from subject titles, synopses, and learning outcomes. Explicit terms were those strongly associated with LGBTQIA+. Implicit terms were those indirectly associated with LGBTQIA+. Explicit and implicit LGBTQIA+ terms were analyzed for frequencies. Poisson regression was used to compare counts of LGBTQIA+ terms by course, subject, and university. ResultsAmong the 1093 subjects, no subject titles included explicit terms and 6 (0.55 %) titles included implicit LGBTQIA+ terminology. Explicit LGBTQIA+ terminology was identified in 54 (4.9 %) subject synopses and implicit terminology was found in 323 (29.6 %) subject synopses. Explicit LGBTQIA+ terms were identified in 14 (1.3 %) learning outcomes while implicit terms were found in 323 (29.6 %) learning outcomes. Group of Eight universities were more likely to use explicit and implicit LGBTQIA+ terminology than non-Group of Eight universities (p < 0.001; p = 0.035). Undergraduate programs included more LGBTQIA+ terminology than postgraduate programs (p = 0.019; p < 0.001). Core subjects were more likely to include LGBTQIA+ content than elective subjects (p < 0.001). ConclusionExplicit LGBTQIA+ terminology was minimal indicating limited overall content. The study results alert nursing and midwifery educators to take a targeted approach to teaching and learning with a LGBTQIA+ focus to support future nurses and midwives with quality knowledge and skills and ensure equitable and safe care for LGBTQIA+ people.

UNDERSTANDING THE CHALLENGES OF TEACHING COMPUTER SCIENCE SUBJECTS FROM SCHOOL TEACHERS’ PERSPECTIVE

The implementation of Computer Science (CS) in Malaysian secondary schools aims to develop digital proficiency among youths. Despite this, Kedah state has seen fluctuating enrolment in CS elective subjects for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam between 2018 and 2021, which contrasts with the increasing popularity of CS programs in higher education and the rising demand for CS skills.Addressing the challenges teachers face in delivering CS subjects is crucial, including issues like inadequate training, limited resources, language barriers, and diverse student backgrounds. This study uses a quantitative approach with self-developed questionnaires distributed among experienced CS teachers in Kedah to identify these challenges and propose solutions. Findings reveal a mix of experienced and less experienced teachers, mostly with medium-level proficiency. The study highlights difficulties in teaching Form 4 and Form 5 content and suggests improvements through professional development, collaboration, hands-on experiences, and updated resources to enhance teaching effectiveness and better align secondary education with higher education and job market needs.

The implementation of the elective subject "Public Health" in the final year for medical students at Göttingen University Medical Center: results of the UNITE project

International and national frameworks and initiatives call for strengthening the training of health professionals in the public health service (PHS) through cooperation with universities. The German Medical Licensing Regulations of 21st Sep 2021 provides for an integration of PHS into undergraduate medical training in the final year since 1st May 2022. The present study presents the procedure and results of the final year elective Public Health (PH) implementation for medical students at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) in cooperation with the local PHS. In the twelve-month project UNITE (07/21-06/22), the final year elective PH was implemented in seven steps: analysis of the framework conditions, conception of the elective, preparation of a logbook, pilot phase with five students in one-week rotations, public relations for students, introduction of a medical didactic training for staff of the health department and implementation of the elective PHS with students. A cooperation agreement between UMG and the Health Department regulates the training of medical students. Students complete four-week rotations in the areas of public health service and funeral services, paediatric and adolescent medical service, infection control and social psychiatric service. The logbook for students contains learning objectives for individuals specialised in services for self-assessment of the acquired competences. The didactics training was implemented with high learning success of the participating staff. So far three final year students have successfully completed the elective. The implementation of final year elective PHS strengthens the anchoring of public health topics in the education of medical students in Göttingen and makes PHS more visible as a professional perspective. Essential for the successful implementation were the establishment of a continuous cooperation between the university and the health department, student-oriented teaching-learning concept with a logbook suitable for the location, a trained multiprofessional team in the health department, and the evaluation of the elective for quality assurance and further development of the training. The concept presented here can help other locations in establishing the final year elective in PH and can be adapted to specific local conditions.

고교학점제 선택과목 운영 방안과 지원에 관한 고등학교 특수학급 교사의 인식과 요구

This study explored the perceptions and needs of special education teachers regarding the operation plans and support for high school credit elective courses for students with special needs in inclusive education settings. A survey was conducted targeting 195 high school special education teachers across the country. The results of this study showed that teachers perceived that elective subjects can provide customized academic and career guidance for students with disabilities however, they also noted that the low desire of students with disabilities in various subjects and range of participating students should be taken into consideration. Additionally, it was recognized that additional special education teachers and specific guidelines are needed to operate elective subjects. In the case of online elective courses, it was recognized that blended learning and the development of online contents for different types of disabilities are necessary that it is appropriate to operate inter-school co-curricular programs as blended co-curricular programs within regular school hours on a fixed base school. For out-of-school education, it was recognized that the district office of education should provide both out-of-school education and classes taught by external experts in schools, and that it is necessary to secure out-of-school educational institutions and manage their quality. In order to operate elective courses for students with special needs in an inclusive education environment, the school-level support for students’ mobility is important, moreover, itinerant special teachers are needed to provide elective subjects at both the district and national levels. Based on these results, implication for the operation of high school credit elective courses for students with special needs in inclusive education settings and suggestions for further research are discussed.

This study aimed to identify an optimal direction for curriculum development by comparatively analyzing the practical arts curriculum at universities of education nationwide. To this end, the study analyzed the curriculum for the class of 2024 at 10 universities, categorizing the curriculum into liberal arts and major courses, with subjects offered and corresponding credits (hours) analyzed. The study found significant differences in practical arts-related subjects offered across the universities. There were almost no required courses offered in general education, no elective subjects in the subject education and practice areas of the major curriculum, and no required subjects in the creative experiential activities. However, in the advanced course area, both required and elective subjects were offered for each practical arts education academic area, with home economics science being the most open. These results suggest a need to increase subject offerings in areas with insufficient or no availability and to ensure their incorporation into future practical arts education courses. For the practical arts curriculum of universities of education, the direction and content of curriculum innovation should reflect changes in the future educational environment. Moreover, efforts should be made to develop a platform to share and utilize information related to the practical arts curriculum.

IMPLEMENTATION OF SOCIOLOGY LEARNING WITH PBL MODEL IN THE INDEPENDENT CURRICULUM AT SMA NEGERI 1 CISARUA WEST BANDUNG REGENCY

Sociology subjects are expected to instill the ability to analyze phenomena and solve social problems in students later, but in reality it is considered an unimportant subject and less desirable by students. This is due to the use of learning methods and models that are not varied by teachers in teaching so that student learning interest becomes minimal and ultimately has an impact on students' lack of understanding of sociological material. Problem Based Learning (PBL) is one of the recommended learning models in the independent curriculum, because PBL provides opportunities for students to apply their concepts to real situations. So it requires students to think critically in solving every problem. This study aims to see how the implementation of sociology learning with the PBL model in the independent curriculum at SMA Negeri 1 Cisarua. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Informants are selected by purposive sampling techniques and the key informants are teachers of sociology subjects in class XI, while supporting informants are vice principals for curriculum and grade XI students who take sociology elective subjects. Data analysis is carried out by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. Then to test the validity of the data, researchers use triangulation of data collection techniques and triangulation of data sources. From the results of the study, it was found that the implementation of sociology learning with the PBL model in the independent curriculum at SMA Negeri 1 Cisarua was the same as when the previous curriculum still followed the syntax of the PBL model that had been conceptually determined, the difference was only in the existence of learning patterns in the independent curriculum such as differentiated learning, essential materials and the existence of the P5 program.

Objectives This study investigated and analyzed the tendency of students to choose subjects and the tendency of chemical academic achievement according to science subject selection in the high school credit system. Methods For six months, from March to August 2020, 339 sophomores of S High School located in Gyeongnam were surveyed and analyzed for their perception of subject selection. Among them, a questionnaire was devel-oped to find out the perception of the content of chemistry subjects, and a questionnaire was conducted on 78 people who agreed to participate in the study. In order to analyze the tendency of chemical academic achievement according to science subject selection in the high school credit system, descriptive statistics, cross-analysis, and nonparametric tests were performed with the SPSS 28 program. Results Students selected many of the science elective subjects in the order of 'Chem-Phys-Bio,' 'Chem-Phys-Earth,' and 'Chem-Bio-Earth.' In the content and concept of the Chemistry I subject, students were found to have difficulty understanding concepts such as 'mole,' 'chemical reaction formula,' 'orbital,' etc., and the 'Chem-Phys-Earth' subject group was found to have the most difficulty in understanding the concept of 'mole.' In addition, in the comparison of achievement by elective subject group, the 'Chem-Phys-Bio' subject group showed the highest chemical academic achievement and the 'Chem-Phys-Earth' subject group showed the low-est achievement. Conclusions In the high school credit system, students chose the Science I course independently, but many stu-dents were found to have insufficient understanding of the basic concept of Chemistry I. Therefore, in terms of understanding the concept of chemistry, it is essential to design a teaching-learning process by level so that stu-dents can better understand the basic concept of Chemistry I in the high school credit system.

The Stateless Legal Clinic: Innovative Models for Addressing Unmet Legal Need in Australia through Clinical Legal Education

The Stateless Legal Clinic is a unique service providing legal education and aid to eligible stateless children in their application for Australian citizenship. It also provides law students at the University of Melbourne with the opportunity to gain practical legal experience and engage in experiential learning, through a clinical legal education elective subject offered within the Juris Doctor (JD) degree. The Stateless Legal Clinic aims to address a critical gap in legal services for stateless children in Australia and situates clinical legal education within the relatively new and emerging discipline of ‘statelessness studies.’ Through an examination of Australia's legal framework for addressing the global human rights issue of statelessness, this article examines the design and operation of the Stateless Legal Clinic, arguing that clinical legal education can provide innovative models for increasing access to justice for communities often overlooked or under-serviced by the legal industry.

Knowledge Transfer and Networking Upon Implementation of a Transdisciplinary Digital Health Curriculum in a Unique Digital Health Training Culture: Prospective Analysis.

Digital health has been taught at medical faculties for a few years. However, in general, the teaching of digital competencies in medical education and training is still underrepresented. This study aims to analyze the objective acquisition of digital competencies through the implementation of a transdisciplinary digital health curriculum as a compulsory elective subject at a German university. The main subject areas of digital leadership and management, digital learning and didactics, digital communication, robotics, and generative artificial intelligence were developed and taught in a transdisciplinary manner over a period of 1 semester. The participants evaluated the relevant content of the curriculum regarding the competencies already taught in advance during the study, using a Likert scale. The participants' increase in digital competencies were examined with a pre-post test consisting of 12 questions. Statistical analysis was performed using an unpaired 2-tailed Student t test. A P value of <.05 was considered statistically significant. Furthermore, an analysis of the acceptance of the transdisciplinary approach as well as the application of an alternative examination method (term paper instead of a test with closed and open questions) was carried out. In the first year after the introduction of the compulsory elective subject, students of human medicine (n=15), dentistry (n=3), and medical biotechnology (n=2) participated in the curriculum. In total, 13 participants were women (7 men), and 61.1% (n=11) of the participants in human medicine and dentistry were in the preclinical study stage (clinical: n=7, 38.9%). All the aforementioned learning objectives were largely absent in all study sections (preclinical: mean 4.2; clinical: mean 4.4; P=.02). The pre-post test comparison revealed a significant increase of 106% in knowledge (P<.001) among the participants. The transdisciplinary teaching of a digital health curriculum, including digital teaching methods, considers perspectives and skills from different disciplines. Our new curriculum facilitates an objective increase in knowledge regarding the complex challenges of the digital transformation of our health care system. Of the 16 student term papers arising from the course, robotics and artificial intelligence attracted the most interest, accounting for 9 of the submissions.

Immersive virtual reality in orthopedic surgery as elective subject for medical students : First experiences in curricular teaching.

Virtual reality (VR) simulators have been introduced for skills training in various medical disciplines to create an approximately realistic environment without the risk of patient harm and have improved to more immersive VR (iVR) simulators at affordable costs. There is evidence that training on VR simulators improves technical skills but its use in orthopedic training programs and especially in curricular teaching sessions for medical students are currently not well established. The aim of this study was to describe the implementation of aVR operating theater as an elective course for undergraduate medical students and to evaluate its effect on student learning. An elective course for 12students was implemented during the summer semester of 2023. Using Oculus Quest2 headsets (Reality Labs, Meta Platforms, USA) and controllers and the PrecisionOS platform, they were able to train five different surgical procedures. The courses were accompanied by weekly topic discussions and instructional videos. Students were assigned to two groups: group VR vs. group non-VR. The groups were switched after 5 weeks. User feedback and performance development (theoretical and procedural surgical knowledge) after VR training were assessed using three questionnaires. The students highly appreciated the implementation of VR training into their curriculum and 91% stated that they would opt for further VR training. All students stated that VR training improved their understanding of surgical procedures and that it should be obligatory in surgical training for undergraduate medical students. After 5 weeks of training, students in the VR group achieved significantly better results (100 out of maximum 180 points) than the non-VR group (70points, p = 0.0495) in procedural surgical knowledge. After completion of the VR training the VR group achieved 106 points and the non-VR group 104 points (p = 0.8564). The procedural knowledge for non-VR group after 5 weeks significantly improved after VR training from 70to 106 points (p = 0.0087). The iVR can be easily integrated into the curriculum of medical students and is highly appreciated by the participants. The iVR statistically improves the procedural knowledge of surgical steps compared to conventional teaching methods. Further implementation of iVR training in curricular teaching of medical students should be considered.

School-leaving examination in physics at the end of upper secondary school in the Czech Republic - Current state

The paper summarizes that the form and content of education in the Czech Republic is determined by the framework educational programmes (FEPs) and school educational programmes (SEPs). Analysis of these documents showed that the school-leaving examination (Maturita) in physics at the end of upper secondary education is not unified in any way on the national level. To map how the Maturita examination in physics looks like, the questionnaire survey was conducted. 366 gymnasiums and 32 schools with the study programme technical lyceum were proposed to participate in the survey. The return rate for the teacher questionnaire was approximately 28 %. The teacher questionnaire confirmed that the oral form of the Maturita examination in physics prevails in most schools and showed that the proportion of students choosing the Maturita examination in physics has been stable at around one-tenth of all school-leaving students with physics included in their curriculum. Students most often study for the exam on their own and as sources of information, use their own physics workbooks. As the easiest physics thematic area in terms of preparation for the exam is perceived mechanics, on the contrary, electricity and magnetism is considered to be the most difficult. The main reason to choose physics as one of the elective subjects in the Maturita exam appears to be students’ interest and enjoyment in physics.

Opportunities for development of information competence of students in universities

Modern pedagogical education is aimed at improving future specialists’ professional competence, competitiveness, self-realization and most importantly, at providing them opportunities to do research and develop their knowledge. In this case, one of the main tasks of the educational institution is to train the future specialist to learn and study, to be able to navigate in the constantly changing flow of information, to think critically and creatively. This is because informational competence has an important role in forming the individuality of the future specialist, in their personal experience when fulfilling professional requirements and in improving their professional qualifications. That is the possibilities and the role of the content of elective subjects, student centers, educational institution's newspaper and official social networks as means of mass media in developing future specialists’ information competence. Domestic and foreign scientific works within the scope of the topic were studied, data were compared and systematized. Based on the analysis of the results of the student survey method, conclusions were made regarding the development of information competence of students in higher education institutions, and recommendations for the development of information competence of future teacher-psychologists were given.

Design and Implementation of a Career Planning Program at Chonnam National University Medical School

Chonnam National University Medical School has designed and implemented two career planning programs: a three-phase curriculum-based program and a longitudinal non-curricular program over the course of 6 academic years. The three phases of the curriculum-based career planning program are self-assessment, career exploration, and field experience. The non-curricular career counseling program operates through a faculty advisor system, with each faculty member guiding a group of students from each academic year, and students in each year forming a mentor-mentee relationship. The non-curricular career exploration program consists of a student research support program, an international practice program in basic and clinical medicine, and a specialty exploration fair. A survey conducted among 38 graduates (54.3%) working as interns at Chonnam National University Hospital revealed that graduates preferred autonomous elective subjects within the curriculum-based program. They also responded positively to the faculty advisor system, through which they maintained close relationships. A focus group interview with three interns indicated that subjects providing direct experience in fields of interest and courses that students could choose freely were helpful in career decisions. Through follow-up research, it is necessary to design and operate a systematic career planning program based on an analysis of the needs of graduates taking part in a residency training program after selecting a medical specialty.

Student Preferences in Choosing Chemistry as an Elective Course in Phase F of the Merdeka Curriculum

The Merdeka Curriculum differs from the 2013 curriculum regarding elective subjects. The Merdeka Curriculum has no more specialization groups such as science, social studies or language. Merdeka Curriculum allows students to choose elective subjects that suit their interests, talents and abilities when entering phase F at the Senior High School level. Schools must open at least seven elective subjects adjusted to the characteristics and human resources owned by the school. Chemistry is one of the elective subjects that students can choose in Phase F of the Merdeka Curriculum. This study aims to determine the factors that make students choose chemistry as their elective subject in Phase F of the Merdeka Curriculum. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 17 Jakarta in the 2023-2024 academic year. The research subjects were students in chemistry specialization classes: XI-A Chemistry and XI-B Chemistry. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study research type. Sampling in this study used a purposive sampling technique with certain considerations. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews with nine students in chemistry specialization classes, and the data obtained were analyzed qualitatively with stages, namely data reduction, conclusions, and verification. The results showed that intrinsic and extrinsic factors influence students' tendency to choose chemistry as their chosen subject. Intrinsic factors include interest in chemistry, academic value, and future study or career plans. Intrinsic factors influencing students most are future study or career plans and individual interest in chemistry. In contrast, extrinsic factors include family factors, friend factors, teacher factors, and support from schools. The extrinsic factor that most influences students is the teacher factor.
