Photosartorial Elicitation and the Bukae of Korean Instagram

Korean Instagram is in the midst of a phenomenon involving the creation and self-marketing of alter ego identities — 'bu-kae'— that create a culture in which more specific, digital subcultures lead to the formation of real communities offline, which are a thriving part of youth culture today. The 'sub'(부) 'character'(캐) is nowadays a major mode of interacting online in South Korean social media and a clear result of digital media cultures that nowadays house different parts of identities for specific kinds of social uses through identity separation. This research uses 'photo-sartorial elicitation', a structured interaction and means of gathering social data by having a model and photographer interact around clothing in a way that reveals previously hidden or non-obvious social facts about that person or even a community. I am able to engender participation around a photographic project since photographs on Instagram are the prime social currency within digital subcultures on Instagram, with 'exchange rates'for participation in front of the camera far higher than even direct payments of fiscal currency might provide. In the end, it is only by being able to answer the questions, 'Why are you here?'and 'What do I get out of participation as a subject?'that one can gain the ability to reach into the depths of social phenomena that are otherwise largely impenetrable to the researcher’s gaze.

Self Independence and Ego Identity among A sample of Maritally Delayed in Irbid Governorate

The purpose of the study is to investigate the level of self-independence and ego identity among martially delayed in Irbid governorate, as well as the correlation relationship among them, and if there are differences attributed to gender, level of income, and scientific qualification. The sample of the study consisted of (220) working martially delayed females selected through available sampling. To achieve the aim of the study, the researcher used a descriptive approach and administrated the self-independence scale developed by (Ameen, 2017) and translating and developing ego identity scale (EIPQ). The findings of the study showed that the level of self-independence among martially delayed was at a high level, and an average of 3.68, and the results of the ranks of the ego identity showed that accomplished identity came first within the highest frequency of (40.5%) then the closed identity with a frequency of (28.6%) and suspended identity with a frequency of (24.5%) and finally distracted identity within the lowest rank and a frequency of (6.4%). The findings of the study regarding the self-independence scale showed significant statistical differences attributed to age in all domains except for achieving identity, there were no significant statistical differences attributed to income level and scientific qualification in all self-independence scale domains. The findings of the ego identity scale showed that there are no significant statistical differences in the distribution of martially delayed distribution according to ego identity ranks (accomplished, distracted, suspended, and closed identity) according to age, level of income, and scientific qualification.

PERSONALITY TRAITS AND IDENTITY STATUS OF ADOLESCENTS: A PERSON-CENTERED APPROACH

This research aimed to clarify the relationship between adolescent personality traits as measured by “Big Five Plus Two” inventory based on psycholexical studies of Serbian language, and identity status as defined in the theoretical and empirical works of Erik Erikson and James Marcia. The sample of the research consisted of N = 201 adolescents, aged 16 to 21, with an average age of M = 18.32, SD = 1.12. The instruments used were The Ego Identity Process Questionnaire and Big Five Plus Two - short version, an instrument based on lexical studies of Serbian language. Cluster analysis was used to classify adolescents according to identity maturity with an implicit goal of identifying adolescents who are predisposed towards successful or unsuccessful adaptation to identity tasks by their personality traits. The result showed that two clusters could be identified. The first cluster consisted of N = 125 adolescents who scored low on both commitment and exploration and this group was therefore named “undifferentiated identity status adolescents”. Regarding the personality traits, the typical pattern in this cluster was low openness to experience, as well as marked negative valence. The second cluster consisted of N = 76 adolescents which scored high on both commitment and exploration dimensions of identity; the cluster was named “mature identity status adolescents”. Their personality traits patterns were almost the opposite of the first group: high openness to experience and low negative valence were typical of this group. Therefore two conclusions are made from the results: (1) personality dimension openness to experience seems to be especially important in resolving identity tasks in adolescence, and it is possible to suggest that it corresponds to exploration based on their correlation; (2) identity maturity seems to be an important correlate of psychological well-being in adolescence, given that two groups differed sharply on the negative valence dimension and that less mature identity status adolescents typically scored higher scores on this trait. The Effects of Mindfulness and Buddhist Meditation Coaching on Mental Health Outcomes in College Students.

College students are vulnerable to diverse mental health disorders. We aimed to investigate whether a meditation class would be an effective means to address students' mental health challenges. Among the college students who registered for the meditation course, 256 participants were enrolled. The meditation course was a 15-week program incorporating mindfulness meditation and Ganhwa Seon (a traditional Buddhist meditation). A questionnaire was administered twice, on the first and last class of the course, collecting information on personal characteristics and six mental health indicators. A paired t-test was used to examine whether the meditation course conferred benefit on the mental health indicators, and logistic regression analyses were run to identify factors associated with mental health outcomes. After completing the meditation course, there were significant improvements for the adult ADHD score (p < 0.01) and ego identity (p = 0.02) but not for the other outcomes. Among college students, meditation practice may have positive effects on the adult ADHD score and ego identity.

The Effect of Collectivism on Mental Health during COVID-19: A Moderated Mediation Model

COVID-19 is an unprecedented public health emergency of international concern and has caused people to live in constant fear and posed a significant threat to their physical and mental health. The study constructed a moderated mediation model to examine the mediating role of emotion regulation between collectivism and mental health and the moderating role of ego identity in the context of COVID-19. A total of 459 participants were recruited to complete the survey from 30 January to 8 May 2021.The Mental Health in COVID-19 Period Scale, Collectivism Tendency Scale, ERQ, and Identity Status Scale were used for the study. (1) Expressive suppression played a mediating role in the relationship between collectivism and mental health; (2) The direct effect of collectivism on mental health and the path from expressive suppression to mental health were moderated by ego identity. The effect of collectivism on mental health is indirectly generated through expressive suppression and ego identity showing different patterns of regulation of mental health in different pathways, and its mechanisms and other important influences could be further explored in the future.

Understanding Postmodern Identity Among US Young Adults Through an Investigation of Globalized Interest

The 21st century and internet technology has brought about many changes that includes exposure to new cultures. This creates opportunities for new identities to develop. In this study, the researcher examines identity integration through discussions on engagement in a globalized interest in connection with postmodernism. Twelve college students who were interested in a culture not connected to their own ethnic background were interviewed. The majority of the participants were interested in Japanese anime and Korean pop music while not being ethnically Japanese or Korean. Using Erikson’s theorizing of three levels of identity and Hidi and Renninger’s four phases of interest development, the researcher discusses the integration of participants’ interest into their ego identity, personal identity, and social identity as well as the utilization of the internet for interest development. The researcher ends with suggestions for future identity research that includes considerations around how identity integration might be considered (i.e., identity synthesis) and further investigations around internet content.

On the way to adult identity: An evaluation of identity status and narrative identity models of development

Successful resolution of identity is fundamental for a good life. According to the ego identity status model, emerging adults explore and commit to various identity domains. Concurrently, emerging adults are theorized to develop their narrative identity. Yet, it is unclear whether ego identity processes help to establish a narrative identity, or if the development of a narrative identity facilitates ego identity achievement. Therefore, we assessed autobiographical meaning making in repeated narratives and identity status processes of 180 emerging adults (Mage = 20.47, SDage = 3.35, 68.90 % female) at two measurements 8-months apart. Results showed differential effects on identity depending on the meaning made and suggest that narrative identity provides the ground for identity status processes such as identity exploration.

The Objectivity of Beauty: A Post-structural Study of the Hyperreal Screen of Media

This paper attempts to bring out the biggest objectivity of beauty by evaluating the norm of ‘beauty standard’ from psychoanalytical and post-structural lenses. Beauty depends on cultural interpretation. Media and film industry play a key role in shaping the audience's psychology and rules the audience to be selective about the beauty tones and aesthetic ideals by rejecting the multiplicity and hybridity of beauty tones available in culture. This formation tends to shape Jacques Lacan’s ‘image’ in human psyche and Judith Butler’s ‘performativity’ in social theatrical context by building a certain standard of beauty. From Erik Erikson’s point, the image and performative role prepare one to possess the selected standard when one stays in ‘role confusion’ and lack of ‘ego identity’. This paper deconstructs the entire motive and outline of the contribution of media to the objectivity of beauty and its effect on psychology, through psychoanalytical and post-structural analysis; and establishes a larger form of the objectivity of beauty that may eliminate the scopes of racism and alienation.

TO UNDERSTAND AND COMPARETHE IDENTITY FORMATION PROCESS IN ADOLESCENTSON THE BASIS OF GENDER AND AGE THROUGH JAMES MARCIAS MODEL OF IDENTITY STATUSES

The purpose of the study was to investigate Marcias ego identity paradigm in the Indian adolescent population.The study examined the role of age and gender and on the process of Identity formation. A representative sample of 161 adolescents(girls and boys) was collected across three different age groups 13-15, 15-17 and 17-19 years. The Ego Identity Process Questionnaire (EIPQ) was used to measure participants level of Exploration and Commitment and accordingly classify them into one of Marcias four Ego Identity Statuses: Achievement, Moratorium, Foreclosure, and Diffusion identity.The results indicated that most of the adolescents in todays times are realistic and more informed about their lives and decisions. Thus, mean scores for both girls (70.24) and boys (70.24) were high in Identity Achievement. Also, both genders were found to be equally active in exploration and commitment domains.The T- scores indicated the comparison between girls and boys in different Identity statuses. The values were found to be non- significant indicating an equal growth in both the genders.

Meaningful Quantitative and Qualitative Transformative Experiences using the Arka Dhyana Intuitive Meditation Method

Using scales and the analysis of shared phenomenological experiences, our chief aim in this investigation is to record what happens when practitioners start meditating on their Self via their hearts using the Arka Dhyana Intuitive Meditation method (IM). This yogic-based practice involves a journey from the thinking mind to the emotional heart to pure consciousness. Thirty-one participants divided into three groups attended a five-session online introductory IM workshop. The participants filled in the Resilience Scale (RS), Spirituality Scale (SS), and the revised Feeling Consciousness Scale (FCS), which included two open questions providing qualitative data. Quantitative findings indicated significant increases in RR, SS, and FCS. The highly significant quantitative results provide meaningful support for the hypothesis that the IM method is associated with transformative changes after learning IM. The qualitative data support and expand on these findings. This study is relevant to people who hold a metaphysical position that supports the concept of the Self beyond the small ego identity.

Peningkatan Keaktifan Belajar dan Kemandirian Belajar IPS melalui Media Pembelajaran Liveworksheet pada Peserta Didik Kelas VIIA di SMP

This study aims to increase learning activity and independence in social studies learning through live worksheet learning media for class VII A students in junior high school. This research is a classroom action research with the research subjects are students of class VII A in junior high school. This research will be carried out in two cycles, the first cycle consists of two meetings and the second cycle consists of two meetings. At the end of each cycle an evaluation is carried out. Data collection in this action research is done by observation, documentation and learning outcomes tests. True learning throughout the life of students, one of which is indicated by an attitude of activeness, independence in learning and an increase in learning outcomes. The activeness of students when learning is all learning activities that involve students, both physical and non-physical in the learning process that can encourage students to be more critical, express opinions in discussions, ask questions, and be able to solve a given problem. Independence is an attempt to break away from parents with the intention of finding oneself through the process of seeking ego identity, which is a development towards a stable and independent individuality. Based on the conclusion, there is an increase in learning activity and independence in social studies learning through live worksheet learning media for class VII A students in junior high school.

Development and Validation of an Autonomy Questionnaire for Chinese Adolescents From the Perspective of Network Culture.

This study developed a measure of autonomy for adolescents in contemporary China. First, data from 44 interviewees—40 secondary school students, 2 parents, and 2 secondary school teachers—were used to explore the connotation and theoretical structure of autonomy in adolescents in China. Next, a preliminary Adolescent Autonomy Questionnaire was created from the interview data and administered to 775 secondary school students. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted to verify the factor structure. Finally, 614 secondary school students completed the Adolescent Autonomy Questionnaire, Personal Growth Initiative Scale-II, and Adolescence Ego Identity Crisis Scale to evaluate criterion validity. The final version of the Adolescent Autonomy Questionnaire included 16 items and four subscales: autonomous decision-making, autonomous regulation, autonomous protection, and autonomous problem-solving. The total variance of the cumulative interpretation questionnaire was 62.54%. The CFA results showed that the four-factor model fits the data well: χ2/df = 2.340, CFI = 0.949, RMSEA = 0.042, SRMR = 0.046. Evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Adolescent Autonomy Questionnaire provided support for the reliability and validity of the measure. Thus, it serves as an effective measurement tool for assessing the autonomy of adolescents in China.

An Analysis of the Concept of Identity Crisis in Ali Bader’s The Tobacco Keeper

The current study investigates the concept of Identity crisis manifested or reflected in The Tobacco Keeper, a novel by Ali Bader. The analysis of the novel is built on the concept of identity and identity crisis as suggested by Erik Erikson. Moreover, the study examines the main reasons that lead the protagonist, as an Iraqi individual, to experience what Erikson calls “Identity Crisis” that results from the failure of this character to achieve what is called the “Ego identity”. His failure, eventually, is related to the conflicts that govern the life of Iraqi people. This novel presents a panoramic view of the history of Iraq as it traces the life of Kemal Medhat for more than eighty years. The identity crisis that the protagonist undergoes is related to the political and ethnic conflict of the different groups that shape up the structure of the Iraqi society. The novel can be considered as a political criticism of the various regimes in Iraq. The paper is divided into three sections. The first section introduces the writer and a short summery of the story. As for the second section, it presents the concept of identity. The last section contains the analysis of the main character’s experience that causes his identity diffusion.

Structural Components of Personal Well-Being Experience of Persons with Functional Visual Disorders

The problem of experiencing personal well-being as a question of positive functioning of the individual in the actualised areas of life is relevant for modern psychological science and practice. The purpose of the study was to determine the supporting components of the experience of personal well-being of persons with functional visual impairments, the level of severity of which mediates such experiences. The study is based on determining the leading role of internal determinants in the experience of personal well-being in the conditions of functional visual impairment. As a result of the research, a structural model of experiencing well-being of persons with functional impairments is outlined, which includes such components as self-attitude (positive or negative) and experiences of personal capabilities or limitations in actualised ego identities. The study determined that the low degree of expressiveness of the modalities of self-assessment and the negative colour of personal experiences of functional disorders prevent the realisation of person's resourcefulness, the actualisation of its capabilities. Empirical research has shown that distorted self-perception of people with functional visual impairments is mediated by rigidity of self-image, its closedness, and personal experiences of limitations in relation to their own functional disorders in actualised spheres of life. The identified features of the structural components of experiencing their own well-being can be used to develop and implement a correctional programme aimed at forming an adequate level of self-esteem in persons with functional impairments, which confirms the practical significance of the study

Predictors of perfectionistic tendencies in sport among undergraduate kinesiology students

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to examine the athletic identity, identity foreclosure, perceived task value in sport, and perfectionism of kinesiology students with high school and college sport experience. Participants completed an online survey that included items regarding demographic information, athletic identity ego identity, perceived task value in sport, and sport perfectionism. Pearson moment correlations indicated that higher athletic identity was associated with higher subjective task value, identity foreclosure, perfectionistic strivings, and perfectionistic concerns. Multiple regression analyses revealed that athletic identity and subjective task value were significant predictors of perfectionistic strivings and that athletic identity and identity foreclosure were significant predictors of perfectionistic concerns. Future research should replicate the study with participants from different ethnicities and geographical regions using longitudinal and qualitative methods to examine the development of subjective task value in sport.

Emerging Adulthood: Identity status and Parenting Styles

 The psychosocial development of emerging adults is characterized by the development of an achieved ego identity (Kroger &amp; Marcia, 2011). This development is influenced by the parental environment (Darling &amp; Steinberg, 1993). A one-way multivariate analysis was conducted to predict the associations between the different parenting styles (Baumrind, 1966) and identity statuses (Marcia, 1994). According to the results, there was a significant difference in the perceived parenting styles of the emerging adults ( N = 203) based on their identity status, F( 8, 392 ) = , p  = 0.033; Wilk's Λ =  .919,   partial η2 = 0.41. To further understand the variances among the variables a discriminant analysis was conducted, which revealed that the achieved identity status lead to the variances between the parenting styles and identity status. Regardless of the perceived parenting style and socialized parental attitude an achieved identity remains to be the goal of an emerging adult's identity development. Â

Golden: Reworking the Psychosocial Maldevelopment of the Obedient Kid

Well-behaved children might seem well, but may actually harbor self-doubt, a strong sense of guilt, and a weak ego identity which will bring them problems emotionally and socially in their later life. This creative work, Golden, was created to raise a discussion on this issue by trying to answer how children may end up developing these traits, what the effects are, and how to recover. To answer this, Erik Erikson’s 8 stages of psychosocial development is used as the base for this coming-of-age drama musical screenplay. It follows the story of an obedient daughter, Annisa. Connected with the theory, Annisa ended with the dystonic “guilt” in the play age stage because of how her mother raised her. Thus, in adolescent stage she lacks emotional resilience in an initiative-based environment. However, since she is enduring the complications and growing a sense of trust, finally, she achieves balance and is healed.
