GEMINI GOOGLE: A POTENTIAL TOOL FOR ENGLISH LEARNING

Based on previous surveys, it is evident that Food Technology students at Thu Dau Mot University face challenges in learning English, such as limited vocabulary, weak grammar, inaccurate pronunciation, and poor listening and speaking skills. These can lead to declining academic performance and restricted career opportunities. The paper highlights the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in overcoming these challenges. AI tools like Gemini Google can provide personalized learning experiences, improve interaction with the language, and offer immediate feedback. Gemini is specifically chosen due to its free access, Vietnamese interface, and support for over 40 languages. This study demonstrates that Gemini is an effective tool for undergraduate students, particularly those in Food Technology who have weak English backgrounds, to improve their English skills. Gemini improves vocabulary, grammar, speaking, listening, pronunciation, reading, and writing. It offers simple instructions and ideas in both English and Vietnamese, making it ideal for beginners, self-learners, and people with limited English proficiency. Unlike traditional learning, Gemini provides access at any time and from any location, as well as the ability to overcome shyness and blunders. Gemini's large, up-to-date database and user-friendly interface enable personalized learning paths and can be paired with other methods for best language learning. The study also proposes various strategies for utilizing Gemini Google to improve English learning effectiveness in areas like vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, reading, writing, and creating a positive learning environment. With the rapid development of e-learning, more and more learners use electronic devices to learn English. The traditional way of learning is often lack of interest and interaction, therefore, this paper discusses how to improve the effect of English learning through the application of immersive human–computer interaction and digital entertainment new media. Research on the selection of appropriate virtual reality, augmented reality or game platforms, design interactive content and scenes according to learning objectives, and use elements such as virtual scenes, virtual characters and audio-visual effects to improve learners’ immersion. Through careful design and production, learners can be presented with a lively, interesting and challenging learning environment to stimulate their interest and enthusiasm in learning. Develop interactive learning tools and applications that enable learners to interact with virtual environments or games, make appropriate adjustments and feedback based on learner feedback and behavior, and provide personalized learning support and guidance. Through the collection of learner feedback and behavioral data, combined with the evaluation indicators of learning outcomes, the immersive learning environment and content can be evaluated and improved and optimized according to the evaluation results, so as to further enhance learners’ learning motivation and learning outcomes.

Enhancing English Learning in an Islamic University Context: Identifying and Addressing Key Challenges

This study explores the factors contributing to students' difficulties in achieving effective English learning at the Muslim University of Indonesia (UMI) and identifies strategies to overcome these challenges. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive research design, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation with five fifth-semester students from the English Department. The findings reveal six critical barriers: lack of practice, vocabulary deficiency, environmental factors, lack of interest, low self-confidence, and pronunciation challenges. These factors significantly hinder students' English language proficiency, which is essential for their academic and professional success. The study suggests targeted interventions, including increasing practice opportunities, enhancing vocabulary instruction, creating supportive learning environments, tailoring materials to students' interests, building confidence, and improving pronunciation practice. The implications of these findings highlight the need for comprehensive and context-specific strategies in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education. Future research should further investigate these areas, considering alternative interpretations and the long-term impact of these factors on language proficiency. By addressing these challenges, educators and policymakers can enhance English language education and support students in achieving their full potential.

Trilingual Supplementary Learning Material: Needs of English Learning Materials for First Grade Elementary School Students

One of the factors that greatly influence the ineffectiveness of language learning in schools is the limited resources, including textbooks, teaching materials, and other supporting tools needed for effective English learning. Therefore, supplementary learning materials are needed that can complement the lack of teaching materials in English Classes. As an initial stage in designing and developing supplementary learning materials, this research aims to conduct a needs analysis in two elementary schools to obtain an initial picture of the needs of teachers and students as a basis for designing supplementary learning materials. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data were collected by interviews and direct observation. Data from the interview were analyzed descriptively. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that there are several problems, such as teachers’ difficulties in speaking English, students’ disinterest in learning English due to limited vocabulary, and lack of interactive learning activities. Therefore, additional trilingual learning materials are needed with three equivalent languages: English, Indonesian, and Balinese. Providing learning materials covering three languages and integrated with interactive activities and games is expected to be a more inclusive and effective solution for improving students’ language skills.

College English Mobile Learning Patterns Based on Multi-Modal Learning From “Internet +” Perspective

Under the background of Internet Plus, the rapid development of the mobile Internet technology has led to the widespread use of the PCs and smartphones, bringing out new chances for college English mobile learning. More importantly, with the trend of globalization, the complex situation has set higher demands for this generation. In order to promote college students’ English learning effectiveness and enhance comprehensive English skills, this paper explores possible mobile learning patterns based on multi-modal learning that college students can apply in English learning, according to the theories of the Multi-modal Discourse Analysis and mobile learning. Included in the study are the employment of questionnaires and interviews. The results show that teachers’ construction of multi-modal teaching and students’ after-class multi-modal learning play a significant role in improving college students’ English proficiency. The research, therefore, will provide some possible insight into cultivating college students’ comprehensive English skills to adapt to the changing society.

Factors Affecting Student’s English Learning in School of Economics at University of Transport and Communications in Ho Chi Minh Campus

The article focuses on analyzing the factors influencing the English learning of Economics students at the University of Transport and Communications Ho Chi Minh Campus. This study aims to identify which factors may affect the effectiveness of English learning among students, in order to improve teaching and learning quality. Factors considered include the learning environment, teaching methods, learning resources, students' individual characteristics such as motivation, initial English proficiency, and cultural and social factors that may influence the learning process. By analyzing and evaluating these factors, the research can provide recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of English learning among students and improve the learning environment in the university. This may positively contribute to the development of students' English proficiency, thereby increasing their learning opportunities and future career success.

학습자들의 전공 및 학습언어에 따른 학습전략사용 비교

The main purpose of this research is to explore whether there are differences in the use of language learning strategies among learners according to their majors and the language they are studying. The data were collected from students of a college of physical education enrolled in English classes at a university in Seoul. Also, the previous studies that were employed the same questionnaire were analyzed to compare with the results. As a research method, the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) by Oxford (1990) used. The findings revealed that social strategies were the most frequently used, while affective strategies were the least used. On the other hands, the strategies preferred by students majoring in airline service were metacognitive and affective strategies, and the former students majoring in athletes favor memory strategies in Chinese class. Finally, it also suggests the need to develop ways to enhance the effectiveness of English learning by increasing the use of learning strategies.

The Impact of Talkpal.AI on English Speaking Proficiency: An Academic Inquiry

This study aims to investigate the impact of using Talkpal.AI in improving the English-speaking ability of university students. The research problem is to what extent Talkpal.AI can enhance fluency and intelligibility in English speaking. The research methodology used was quantitative research with an experimental approach where the experimental group used Talkpal.AI while the control group did not use the application. The research participants were university students with varying levels of English proficiency. Data was collected through an initial test to assess the level of English speaking ability before intervention with Talkpal.AI and a final test after a certain period of using the application. Then, an independent t-test was conducted with significant results. The findings of this study show that students have not widely used Talkpal.AI because they do not know the Talkpal.AI tool and are not facilitated by the institution. Participants in the experimental group showed considerably improved speaking fluency and clarity compared to the control group. In addition, survey results showed that participants had a positive perception of using Talkpal.AI to support English learning. This study confirms that Talkpal.AI positively impacts improving English speaking in a university setting. The implications of this research highlight the potential of Talkpal.AI as an effective tool in supporting English language learning in higher education institutions, as well as suggesting further integration of this type of technology in the English language teaching curriculum. Hopefully, this research provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of using Talkpal.AI in improving English speaking skills among university students. The results of this study can provide helpful information for developing more effective English learning strategies in the academic environment.

Construction and Application of a College English Blended Teaching System Based on Multi-Source Data Fusion

By using modern data analysis techniques, this study aims to construct an innovative university English teaching effectiveness evaluation model based on particle swarm algorithm and support vector machine. The model is designed to improve assessment accuracy and personalization. The research process includes the methodology of data collection, preprocessing, model construction and evaluation. The experimental results show that the model can more accurately assess students' English learning effectiveness and provide customized suggestions for personalized education. This research is important for improving the quality of university English education, promoting personalized learning, and providing support tools for educational decision makers.

Research on the evaluation method of English textbook readability based on the TextCNN model and its application in teaching design.

English is a world language, and the ability to use English plays an important role in the improvement of college students' comprehensive quality and career development. However, quite a lot of Chinese college students feel that English learning is difficult; it is difficult to understand the learning materials, and they cannot effectively improve their English ability. This study uses a convolutional neural network to evaluate the readability of English reading materials. It provides students with English reading materials of suitable difficulty based on their English reading ability so as to improve the effect of English learning. Aiming at the high dispersion of students' English reading level, a text readability evaluation model for English reading textbooks based on deep learning is designed. First, the legibility dataset is constructed based on college English textbooks; second, the TextCNN text legibility evaluation model is constructed; finally, the model training is completed through parameter adjustment and optimization, and the evaluation accuracy rate on the self-built dataset reaches 90%. We use the text readability method based on TextCNN model to conduct experimental teaching, and divided the two groups into comparative experiments. The experimental results showed that the reading level and reading interest of students in the experimental group were significantly improved, which proved that the text readability evaluation method based on deep learning was scientific and effective. In addition, we will further expand the capacity of the English legibility dataset and invite more university classes and students to participate in comparative experiments to improve the generality of the model.

This paper is devoted to exploring the construction strategy of the golden class of college English in applied colleges and universities based on smart teaching to promote the in-depth reform and development of higher education in China. By elaborating the principles and significance of the construction of the Golden Class of College English for Applied Colleges and Universities Based on smart teaching, a series of implementation strategies are proposed, including the integration of multimedia resources, the introduction of personalized learning, the practice- and application-oriented approach as well as the promotion of communication and cooperation, and so on. The implementation of these strategies will help to improve students' practical application of English, enhance their comprehensive quality, and improve their English learning effect and learning experience.

Intelligent English Teaching Based on the Pedagogy of Performing Another Culture and ChatGPT Technology

In the background of digital education, the intelligent capabilities of ChatGPT-based technology in teaching have emerged as a powerful tool for facilitating teachers’ preparation for lesson, improving students’ learning motivation and effectiveness, and promoting the development of intelligent curriculum. This study put forward a novel model of ChatGPT-based English teaching grounded in the “Pedagogy of Performing Another Culture” proposed by Galal Walker. From the three aspects of teaching design, application scenarios, and learning effect evaluation, this model explores the application of ChatGPT in the four fundamental language domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with the objective of enhancing students’ language proficiency and cultural sensitivity, while also fostering their digital learning capabilities. To uphold academic integrity and ethical use of ChatGPT in English teaching, a C++-based ChatGPT application has been designed and tailored to the specific needs of English language learners. The school-based intelligent courses based on ChatGPT are available for students to carry out more diverse and effective English learning, promoting the rational use of ChatGPT in learning.

A Predictive Model of Learning Effectiveness in Flipped Classroom Mode: An Exploration of Higher Vocational English Learning Based on Machine Learning

Abstract Taking English microclasses as an example, this paper analyzes the practical operation of flipped classroom teaching in the reform of higher vocational English teaching from the three phases of pre-course, in-course and post-course. Comparing and analyzing the advantages of each fusion algorithm, the Stacking model fusion algorithm is selected to construct a multi-model fusion prediction model of students’ learning effectiveness, and the experimental process of students’ learning effectiveness prediction model based on Stacking fusion is summarized. The algorithmic performance of each machine learning prediction model is determined using each evaluation index. The multi-model fusion learning effectiveness prediction model is employed to predict and analyze the overall and individual effectiveness of English learning by organizing students’ English learning data. Combined with the prediction results of the flipped classroom platform data, the overall performance of the multi-model fusion prediction model is more stable, with a more balanced distribution in the range of 0.7~0.9, which can obtain better accuracy performance than LR, GBDT and XGBoost, and is more capable of predicting the students’ learning effectiveness in terms of the stages of learning (certified, grade, and total_time) in real life. Research on the Teaching Mode of College English Education based on Big Data Technology

Abstract Cognitive diagnosis, as an important means of personalized learning, has the advantage of being able to diagnose students’ knowledge levels and individual differences and provide targeted learning services. In this paper, we use the Markov Monte Carlo method to estimate the parameters in the FuzzyCDF model. Then, we calculate students’ English proficiency level and knowledge mastery by constructing fuzzy sets to realize the diagnosis and analysis of students’ English cognitive levels. Finally, the teaching model of English education in colleges and universities is built using the cognitive diagnosis method. The study shows that the teaching model can accurately and dynamically detect students’ cognitive level for each knowledge point in English teaching. After the implementation of the teaching model, the average score of the overall knowledge water of the students in the experimental class in English teaching reaches 77.25. There is a highly significant difference between it and the students in the control class (P=0.001<0.01), which indicates that the implementation of the teaching model improves the cognitive level of the student’s English learning. This paper presents a novel idea for the improvement of English teaching in colleges and establishes the foundation for improving the effectiveness of English learning.

An Analysis of the Innovation of English Teaching Strategies and Their Impact on Learning Effectiveness in the Age of Big Data

Abstract In recent years, a wealth of research on English language teaching practice has emerged in the academic community at home and abroad, mainly focusing on the use of teachers’ strategies in the English language teaching classroom and less on whether the use of strategies can enhance students’ English language learning effectiveness. In this paper, we look for the factors affecting the effectiveness of English learning from the two subjects of teachers and students respectively, identify the main variables of the study, and put forward the relevant research hypotheses. By using partial least squares regression to construct a model of research impact on learning effectiveness, a regression test is proposed that utilizes Person’s correlation analysis as a benchmark. The research data were collected by means of an online survey, and in the descriptive statistics of the variables, the content mastery measure of the sense of learning goal effectiveness scored the highest at 4.253, and the learning content explanation of the English teaching innovation was adequate. The R2 of English learning strategies and goal effectiveness sense is 0.289 and adjusted is 0.265, the F value is 378.621, and the P value is less than 0.001, which is positive and significant. The more frequently English teaching innovation strategies are used in this study, the higher the sense of goal efficacy, which can significantly improve the effectiveness of learning.

여가활동에 기반한 대학생들의 학습 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

This study begins with the assumption that effects of English learning using learners’ leisure activities will be maximized by transforming them into active English learners. This study aims to enable college students to experience English learning based on leisure activities and to identify the essential meaning of the experience using phenomenological research methods. The participants were 9 students majoring in Health and Welfare at J University in Chungnam. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and the collected data were analyzed by Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. As a result of the research, 18 significant statements and 7 themes including 5 positive and 2 negative aspects were categorized. Findings were as follows. Positive aspects were ‘background knowledge’, ‘clear sense of goal’, ‘autonomy’, ‘change in affective attitude’. and ‘exposure to colloquial expressions’. Negative ones were the two ‘difficulty in selecting materials’ and ‘limitations as English learning materials’. The result suggests that it is necessary to explore various ways to utilize media as a teaching strategy preferred by MZ learners as an English learning experience based on leisure activities.

The Influence of Douyin on College Students’ English Learning

English learning is a vital part of life for college students. College education emphasizes independent learning. Thus, students’ learning outcomes mainly depend on their self-learning ability and learning methods. With the development of science and technology, Internet becomes a way for students to learn English. Douyin, as the largest short video platform in China, has a large number of users. Many college students use Douyin to learn English. However, learning with Douyin is essentially a fragmented informal learning. The effect of learning English through Tiktok is questionable. How Tiktok affects students' English learning is a topic worth discussing. Therefore, this paper explores this issue through a survey questionnaire. Totally, 62 students participated in this survey and filled out the questionnaire. The finding indicates that using Douyin to learn English has both advantages and disadvantages, which will be analyzed in combination with fragmented learning.
