Optimization of Urban Industrial Development Pattern Under the Guidance of Public Transportation

Urban industry is an important support for urban economic development and a driving force for the continuous improvement of people's material and cultural level. It is of great significance to shape the pattern of urban industrial development and stimulate the vitality of urban industrial development. As the most important infrastructure for the efficient operation of a city, the areas with high accessibility often become industrial agglomeration areas with active economic activities. The industrial agglomeration effect oriented by public transportation is closely related to the distribution of urban industrial pattern. Hankou historic district as an example, this article selects the regional finance, commerce, wen chong, type is extremely rich, the tourism industry has a certain representativeness and universality and actuality of hankou historic district four big industry major financial and commercial industry distribution is relatively fragmented, to upgrade industrial structure, at the same time, the tourism industry is still in its infancy, accumulative effect to mining. Through sorting out the public transportation situation of Hankou historic area, and analyzing the accessibility of stations and coverage areas, the agglomeration development of urban industrial pattern is led.

Intensifier of urban economic resilience: Specialized or diversified agglomeration?

With increased uncertainty and instability worldwide, how to enhance the urban economy resilience effectively has become one main issue for urban economic development. Based on the measurement of the economic resilience of 241 cities at the prefecture level and above in China using the sensitive index method, we scrutinize the impact of industrial specialization agglomeration and diversification agglomeration on urban economic resilience. Results indicate that, during the impact resistance period, industrial diversification agglomeration, especially related industrial diversification agglomeration, can enhance urban economic resilience, whereas industrial specialization agglomeration has no positive effect. In contrast, during the period of recovery and adjustment, industrial specialization agglomeration can improve urban economic resilience, and industrial diversification agglomeration, especially related industrial diversification agglomeration, has no positive effect. Further analysis indicates that, under the interaction of specialization and diversification agglomerations, the effect of industrial agglomeration on urban economic resilience depends on the type of dual industrial agglomeration, showing remarkable heterogeneity. This study may provide useful references for policy makers concerned with urban resilience.

Research on the Agglomeration Effect of Financial Industry in Free Trade Zone

Since the 1970s, with the rapid development of economic integration and the rapid flow of financial resources, Chinese economic development of has accelerated, financial institutions have become closer, and financial agglomeration has become increasingly obvious, showing regional attributes. In the process of economic development, the leading position of finance is becoming more and more unshakable, and financial agglomeration has become an important form of modern financial industry organization and development. The free trade zone has served as a key role in breaking through traditions, reforms and innovations in China. Based on the free trade zone, Chinese economy can develop more prosperously. 18 free trade zones established in China headed by Shanghai have made excellent achievements in Chinese economic reform. The establishment of the free trade zone has attracted a large number of financial institutions to settle in with its reform and innovation advantages. The embryonic form of financial industry agglomeration has emerged. With the continuous development of the free trade zone, Chinese financial industry agglomeration effect has also appeared. Based on this, this article studies the agglomeration effect of the financial industry in Chinese free trade zone.

Regional Industrial Economic Development Based on Social Innovation Competitiveness of Economic Cluster

Objectives: With the rapid development of the regional economy, its growth mechanism and competitiveness have gradually attracted people's attention. Based on the social innovation competitiveness of economic clusters, the regional industrial economic development has been studied. Methods: Taking the economic growth effect and industrial agglomeration effect of industrial output value as the object of study, the industrial data is used to subdivide three matching mechanisms: factor structure and industrial association, regional or urban scale and industrial structure, market scale and industrial choice. Results: The results show that different types of industries have different response characteristics to the three matching mechanisms, and there are phenomena of industry and spatial differentiation of matching mechanisms. Conclusion: The research has a certain role in promoting the social innovation of economic clusters and the development of regional industrial economy.

Location and spatial dynamics of maritime services: A case study of the Yangtze River Delta, China

AbstractThe evolution of the spatial structure of maritime services is a geographical phenomenon closely associated with regional port economic development. However, the spatial and temporal characteristics of maritime services are still not fully understood, especially in emerging market countries and regions. The goal of this study was to reveal the regional‐scale location and spatial dynamic characteristics of maritime services and their influencing factors. Specifically, using value chain perspectives, integrating both qualitative and quantitative approaches, we develop a database of maritime service enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta, China. Our empirical results show that maritime services and their various value chain segments display significant spatial agglomeration closely related to the scale of port development. Hub ports and large port cities are the main areas of concentrated maritime services. Moreover, during the spatial reconstruction of regional maritime services, non‐port and small port cities have gradually become important locations for agent maritime services (e.g., shipping agencies, freight forwarding) and traditional maritime services (e.g., port operators, warehouse and storage), dispersing and reconcentrating services in the hinterland. Finally, we analyze the influences of the hinterland logistics center, regional comprehensive transportation network, information communication technology, industrial agglomeration effect, local government competition, and cooperation on the spatial dynamics of maritime services in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Does population and industrial agglomeration exacerbate China’s pollution?

The spatial Durbin model is used to explore the effects of population and industrial agglomeration on production and consumption pollution and spatial spillover differences by using provincial panel data from 2000 to 2018 in China. It is found that industrial agglomeration exacerbates production and consumption pollution within and adjacent to regions, and moderate population agglomeration is conducive to optimizing resource allocation and promoting the sharing of pollution control facilities, which can mitigate production and consumption pollution within and adjacent to regions. Although production pollution is in line with the environmental Kuznets curve, economic growth does not alleviate the consumption pollution brought about by daily life. Consumption pollution is mainly influenced by the consumption level, and everyone is the main subject of pollution. Consumption pollution is much more difficult to manage than production pollution and should be managed from the level of consumption demand.

Research on the Impact of Logistics Industry Efficiency and Agglomeration Effect on Import and Export Trade in Korea

Purpose – The logistics industry is often featured by its location relevance and industrial concentration. Industrial concentration is conducive to the effective transmission of information by reducing transaction costs and improving transaction efficiency, thus promoting the development of trade. The main purpose of this paper is to measure the spatial total factor productivity and location quotient of the logistics industry in Korea, and to study the impact of the logistics industry efficiency and agglomeration effect on import and export trade in Korea. Design/methodology – First, used the spatial stochastic frontier method to measure the spatial total factor productivity of the logistics industry in Korea, this serves as the efficiency index of the logistics industry in various regions of Korea. Second, calculated the location quotient (LQ) of the logistics industry to measure the industry’s concentration degree. Third, employed a spatial econometric model to analyze the impacts of factors such as the efficiency and concentration levels of the logistics industry on import and export trade in Korea. Findings – This study’s main findings can be summarized as follows: this study found that the overall efficiency of the logistics industry in Korea needs to be improved, even though it showed an upward trend in all regions of the country; Moreover, the agglomeration level of Korea’s logistics industry needs to be improved; Finally, the positive spatial correlation and industrial agglomeration effect of Korea s logistics industry had a positive impact on the country’s import and export trade. Originality/value – This study is innovative in terms of research perspective and methods. Most of the previous studies have measured the development level of the logistics industry using the logistics performance index (LPI), Fewer studies have assessed through the spatial total factor productivity and location quotient of the logistics industry in Korea to measure the efficiency index of the logistics industry in various regions of Korea and concentration degree, as well as there was almost no study on the impact of logistics industry efficiency and agglomeration effect on import and export trade in Korea. This study addresses this limitation by analyzing the impacts of the efficiency and agglomeration effect of the logistics industry on import and export trade in Korea.

Analysis on the Effect of Willow Weaving Service Industry Development in County Industry ——Based on Funan Willow

<p>Due to the lack of service innovation awareness, the wicker service industry has gradually been ignored by the market in recent years. In order to solve the problem, this article analyzes the entire industry of Funan willows through survey data, and measures the density of Funan willows by using the location quotient, and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of Funan willows by SWTO analysis and financial statements. In this paper, financial statements are used to analyze the cash flow of the willow company within a certain period of time. The results show that the financial situation of the willow service industry is promising. Therefore, we recommend that the willow service industry achieves its own development by building a reputation brand and relying on the effect of industrial agglomeration to promote the development of the county industry.</p>

Does Industrial Agglomeration or Foreign Direct Investment Matter for Environment Pollution of Public Health? Evidence From China.

This article focuses on the interaction between China's industrial agglomeration, foreign direct investment (FDI) and environmental pollution of public health in the past 15 years. By conducting theoretical and empirical research, we try to reveal the relationship and mechanism between the economic growth and public health from the perspective of environmental pollution. By constructing an embedded theoretical model of industrial agglomeration and FDI, this article combines other environmental pollution influencing factors, expounds the impact mechanism of industrial agglomeration on environmental pollution. Based on the provincial-level panel data of China on environmental pollution and industrial agglomeration, the empirical test is carried out through the threshold panel regression model. According to the results, industrial agglomeration can significantly rectify the regional environmental pollution, thereby benefiting public health. FDI has a phased impact on the relationship between industrial agglomeration and environmental pollution. Specifically, when the level of FDI is low, the positive improvement effect of industrial agglomeration on environmental pollution is relatively strong. This is mainly because industrial agglomeration can promote economic growth, technological progress, and enhance environmental awareness. When the level of FDI exceeds the first threshold and continues to rise, the positive improvement effect of industrial agglomeration is maximized. Before the level of FDI exceeds the second threshold, this effect gradually weakens. The population concentration and excessive expansion of city scale brought about by industrial agglomeration will lead to the increase of regional resource and energy consumption, thus aggravating environmental pollution. The policy implication is that while the government and enterprises are vigorously increasing the level of foreign investment, they must pay equal attention to economic growth and public health, and the level of industrial agglomeration should match the level of foreign investment so as to give full play to the positive improvement effect of industrial agglomeration on environmental pollution, and realize the coordinated development of the regional economy, environment and population health.

Effects of industrial agglomeration and environmental regulation on urban ecological efficiency: evidence from 269 cities in China.

The ecological environment and economic development are double-edged swords. Nevertheless, we can still achieve green and coordinated development through environmental regulations and industrial agglomeration. Based on the panel data from 269 cities in China from 2008 to 2017, using the SBM-DEA model, the Malmquist-Luenberger (ML) index, and the spatial Durbin model (SDM) under different weight matrices, this paper explored the spatial pattern of ecological efficiency, the internal evolution mechanism, and the spillover effects of industrial agglomeration and environmental regulation on ecological efficiency. The results demonstrated that China's urban ecological efficiency had an obvious spatial pattern of "high in the east and low in the west." Due to the different life cycles of cities, the internal evolution mechanism of urban ecological efficiency had significant differences. Pure technological efficiency (PEFFCH), technological progress (TECH), and scale efficiency (SECH) have contributed the most to the ecological efficiency of the eastern, central, and western regions, respectively. Furthermore, a significant U-shaped relationship existed between industrial agglomeration and ecological efficiency. In particular, urban ecological efficiency will be improved when the industrial agglomeration level exceeds a certain scale. However, the spillover effects of industrial agglomeration were more sensitive to distance factors, leading to failure of the significance test under the economic distance and asymmetric economic distance matrix. The "innovation compensation effect" of environmental regulation was greater than the "compliance cost," which verified the applicability of the "Porter Hypothesis" in urban ecological efficiency to a certain extent. Finally, the geographical detector showed that each variable had a certain impact on the urban ecological efficiency, and the impact of the interaction term was greater than that of a single variable.

Analisis Pengaruh Aglomerasi Industri, Angkatan Kerja, Dan Human Capital Investment Terhadap Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Kabupaten/Kota Di Provinsi Jawa Tengah Tahun 2017-2019

This study aims to examine the effect of industrial agglomeration, labor force, and human capital investment on the economic growth of regencies/cities in Central Java Province. This type of research includes quantitative research using secondary data from 35 regencies/cities in Central Java Province in 2017-2019 obtained from the Central Statistics Agency. The model used is multiple regression analysis with a fixed effect model. The result of the study show that industrial agglomeration, labor force, and human capital investment simultaneously have a significant effect on economic growth. Partially, this study shows that industrial agglomeration does not have a significant effect on economic growth. Meanwhile, the labor force and human capital investment have a significant effect on economic growth.

Industrial agglomeration effect for energy efficiency in Japanese production plants

Improving energy efficiency is a highly effective policy for protecting the environment and preserving resources. Previous studies have measured energy efficiency in the industrial sector. We further contribute to understanding the factors that affect energy efficiency changes. This study measures energy efficiency based on plant-level data in Japan's paper/pulp and cement industries as representative energy intensive sectors. We analyze the relationship between the industrial agglomeration effect and the energy efficiency of each studied industry. Our results reflect several important findings. First, energy efficiency has improved in the paper and pulp industry as well as the cement industry between 2000 and 2010. However, the factors for improving energy efficiency differ between the industries. Second, industrial agglomeration affects energy efficiency. In the paper and pulp industry, the same industry agglomerations contribute to improvements in energy efficiency. However, the agglomeration effect is negative for energy efficiency in the cement industry. Our results indicate that one must consider regional circumstances more carefully when seeking to improve energy efficiency.

The Impact of Urban Sprawl and Smart City Construction on Regional Coordination

The construction of smart cities has promoted the process of urbanization and sustainable urban sprawl, which may accelerate regional coordination by enhancing the spatial correlation among the cities. Firstly, this paper built the mechanism for the impact of urban sprawl and smart city construction on regional coordination and adopted the corrected night light data as the index of economic measurement, using the dynamic fixed effect spatial Dubin model to test theoretical mechanism. It is found that urban sprawl has strongly promoted the regional coordination, which is especially obvious among the neighboring cities. However, the construction of smart cities is not conducive to regional coordination, only when interacting with urban sprawl. The results of robustness check and endogenous treatment are consistent with the baseline regression. Further research shows that urban sprawl restricts the positive effect of industrial agglomeration but could promote economic growth and regional coordination through smart city construction. The policy enlightenment lies in that smart city construction should be promoted, so as to improve economic growth, and smart city network and urban sprawl should be synchronously promoted to accelerate regional coordination.

The Impacts of Urban Manufacturing Agglomeration on the Quality of Water Ecological Environment Downstream of the Three Gorges Dam

As an important way to promote economic growth and to improve ecological environment quality, industrial agglomeration strategy has been widely accepted and implemented in various regions of China. In theory, industrial agglomeration is conducive to reducing pollution emissions. However, this needs to be tested in reality. The purpose of this paper is to test the impacts of manufacturing industry agglomeration on the quality of water ecological environment in 17 prefecture-level cities downstream of the Three Gorges Dam. Therefore, a theoretical model was established to test the direct and indirect effects. Empirically, results show that the direct effect of manufacturing agglomeration on the quality of water ecological environment is −0.426, which provides statistical evidence for the important role of manufacturing agglomeration in improving the quality of water ecological environment. The indirect effect of manufacturing agglomeration on ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) is 0.118% through technological innovation, the indirect effect on NH3-N is 0.114% through economic growth, and the indirect effect on NH3-N is 0.254% through industrial structure. Due to the low overall level of the manufacturing industry and its reliance on dirty technologies, the indirect effects of industrial agglomeration are not conducive to improving the quality of the water ecological environment. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a long-term mechanism to promote the evolution of the regional economy along a path that is conducive to the improvement of the water ecological environment.

Research on Effects of Industrial Agglomeration on FDI in China

Since the reforming and opening up in China, many manufacturing multinational corporations (MTCs) have been attracted to invest in China’s eastern coastal regions. There are agglomeration characteristics of manufacturing FDI presented in the eastern region of China. The purpose of research in this paper is to study the relationship between industrial agglomeration and FDI in China. We analyze that industrial agglomeration has impacted manufacturing FDI through effects of scale economy, industrial correlation, transaction cost, and innovation. At last, relevant policies and measures for industrial agglomeration are put forward to promote the development of FDI in China.

Research on green innovation effect of industrial agglomeration from perspective of environmental regulation: Evidence in China

Innovation has been valued as a main driving force of social development, and the need for environmental protection has further raised green innovation development. Previous studies have confirmed that industrial agglomeration has an innovation spillover effect, and furthermore it varies with different agglomeration modes. However, the addition of environmental regulation could exert effects on the innovation spillover of industrial agglomeration. Based on Chinese provincial panel data from 2003 to 2017, this paper tested the effect of different agglomeration modes on green technology innovation (green process innovation and green product innovation) under environmental regulation. Research found that: when industrial agglomeration promotes green technology innovation, environmental regulation will inhibit agglomeration innovation; when industrial agglomeration hinders green technology innovation, environmental planning will promote agglomeration innovation. The regional difference of cluster development are obvious in China, and the effect of agglomeration innovation in different regions is also different. In the implementation of environmental regulation for each region, it is necessary to combine the current situation of cluster development to effectively promote green technology innovation.

Energy efficiency of the mining sector in China, what are the main influence factors?

The mining industry is the basic industrial sector in China. Perfecting the energy efficiency of the mining sector is extremely important for ensuring China's energy security, emission reduction, and promoting China's economic growth. Various factors influence the mining sector's energy efficiency. Based on the provincial-level panel data in China, this paper adopts a two-way fixed-effect model to explore the effect of industrial agglomeration on the total factor energy efficiency (TFEE) of the mining sector in China. Also, the threshold panel model is used to calculate the impact of industrial agglomeration in regions with different economic development levels on the energy efficiency of the mining industry. The results indicate that increasing industrial agglomeration improves the energy efficiency of the mining sector. Furthermore, with the increase in regional economic development, the impact of industrial agglomeration on energy efficiency is gradually decreased. The government could reduce the capacity, which eliminates redundant mining capacity in eastern China, and develop high-quality mining clusters in central and western China.

Coastal Service Industry, Industrial Structure Optimization and Environmental Governance: An Empirical Analysis Based on Chinese Coastal Cities

Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208.This paper analyzes the relationship between industrial structure transformation and pollutant emission changes in 86 cities in coastal areas of China from 2013 to 2017 and proves whether the optimization of the industrial structure of the service sector can play a positive role in restraining environmental pollution. The empirical results show that when the industrial structure or economic activity structure of the city changes towards the service industry, the pollution of the whole city will be restrained and the environmental quality will be improved. It is believed that the optimization of service structure can restrain the scale of pollution, mainly because the optimization of the service industry reflects the positive effect of industrial agglomeration on environmental quality and environmental quality. The optimization of the service industry can promote the technological progress and diffusion of industrial economic activities through the agglomeration of industry, and provide the possibility for the concentration of environmental protection production technology and pollution treatment facilities. Besides, the optimization of the service industry can produce knowledge spillover between enterprises through cooperative agglomeration and improve the current situation of environmental pollution by improving the effect of technological innovation level of enterprises.

Effects of industrial agglomeration on haze pollution: A Chinese city-level study

Environmental issues, especially air pollution, have attracted much attention with the development of economy in China. In order to provide a new idea for how to perfect the mechanism of regional joint prevention and control of air pollution, this paper empirically estimates the spatial spillover effect of industrial agglomeration on haze pollution. The results show that the haze pollution has a significant positive correlation with the industrial agglomeration levels in local and neighboring regions. Direct and indirect effects of the industrial agglomeration are all significantly positive, and the latter are much higher than the former. It indicates that the haze pollution is not only affected by the industrial agglomeration in the local region, but also neighboring regions. Furthermore, we find that the direct and indirect effects in central and western China exceed those in eastern China. In addition, the direct and indirect effects of industrial agglomeration in heavily polluting industry are higher compared with non-heavily polluting industry.

Impact of transportation infrastructure on industrial pollution in Chinese cities: A spatial econometric analysis

Abstract Transportation infrastructure (TI) plays a critical role in China's economic growth, but its negative impacts on the environment have not been sufficiently addressed by the government. While studies of TI's impact on air pollution exist, there are few studies examining its impact on industrial pollution. This paper fills this gap by using the Spatial Durbin Model and balanced panel data from 280 of China's cities spanning 2003 to 2015. The results show that TI, represented by urban roads, aggravates the cities' industrial SO2 emissions, industrial soot (dust) emissions, and industrial wastewater over the long run. The channel analysis further shows that TI influences industrial pollution through industrial agglomeration, but not urbanization. TI has no direct effect on the industrial pollution of neighboring cities but does influence neighboring cities' industrial pollution through the spatial spillover effects of industrial agglomeration. Provincial policymakers and city planners should together pay more attention to the role of industrial agglomeration when designing economic policies to manage the negative effects of TI on the environment, and through cross-city cooperation develop means to reduce these effects.
