It was hoped that this steroid would permanently and completely inactivate rheumatoid arthritis. However, there is evidence2, 3, 4that in most instances cortisone acts only as a suppressive agent, and it is known that undesirable physiologic actions may result from its prolonged administration.5Hence, it appeared worth while to determine if cortisone and gold given concurrently, or if cortisone given to patients already receiving gold, would increase the effect...Bibliography1.
