Effects of Community Participation on School Infrastructure Development in Rural Uganda

Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of community participation on school infrastructure development in rural Uganda. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: Community participation in rural Uganda positively impacts school infrastructure development by fostering ownership and ensuring cultural relevance. Local contributions reduce costs and speed up construction, though variable participation and limited skills can pose challenges. Strong community engagement is essential for the success and sustainability of these projects. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Social capital theory, stakeholder theory & asset-based community development (ABCD) theory may be used to anchor future studies on the effects of community participation on school infrastructure development in rural Uganda. Establish regular feedback mechanisms through community meetings, surveys, and online platforms. Governments and educational authorities should formulate policies that support and mandate community involvement in all phases of school infrastructure development.

Effect of community participation on sustainable development: an assessment of sustainability domains in Malaysia

Introduction: Community participation is also one of the critical factors, in the success of coral reef conservation efforts in Malaysia. The key determinants of community participation in coral reef conservation in the country include awareness, understanding, benefits, and incentives.Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the impact of community participation on sustainable development in Malaysia, specifically in coral reef conservation. The study assessed the relationships between sociodemographic variables and various sustainability domains, including community participation, ecotourism development, and economic, environmental, and social sustainability.Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted from July to October 2022 in Setiu, Terengganu and recruited 338 adult local villagers. Bivariable and multivariable logistic regression analysis for factors such as employment status, knowledge of coral reefs, practice of coral reef conservation and willingness to volunteer for conservation were analysed using SPSS version 26.Results: An increase in community participation was associated with an increase in all four sustainability domains of ecotourism development, economic, environmental and social sustainability (Unadjusted B range = 0.46–0.77, all p-value <0.001). Participants with acceptable knowledge of coral reefs (AOR = 7.11, 95% CI: 3.84–13.15), good practice of coral reef conservation (AOR = 5.26, 95% CI: 2.54–10.91), and willing to volunteer for coral reef conservation (AOR = 1.98, 95% CI: 1.02–3.83) had higher odds of positive social sustainability, compared to those with low knowledge, poor practice and not willing to volunteer, respectively. However, those employed in marine-related jobs (AOR = 0.27, 95% CI: 0.10–0.72) had less odds of positive social sustainability, compared to those who are not employed.Conclusion: The study highlighted the importance of community participation in promoting sustainable development and the influence of socioeconomic factors and education on community participation. The importance of educational initiatives and engagement and the factors associated with positive economic, environmental and social sustainability have been highlighted. These findings can be used by policymakers and stakeholders to design and implement effective interventions for coral reef conservation, aimed at promoting sustainable development in Malaysia.

PENGARUH PARTISIPASI MASYARAKAT, KOMPETENSI SUMBER DAYA MANUSIA DAN PENGAWASAN TERHADAP AKUNTABILITAS PENGELOLAAN DANA DESA

The aims of this research are 1. To find out the effect of community participation on the accountability of managing village funds in Golewa District, Ngada Regency. 2. To determine the effect of human resource competence on the accountability of managing village funds in Golewa District, Ngada Regency. 3. To find out the effect of supervision on the accountability of managing village funds in Golewa District, Ngada Regency. This type of research uses causality research, the research was conducted in villages throughout Golewa District, Ngada Regency, the research data obtained will be analyzed with the help of the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) software application. Based on the results of the study, data was obtained that: The results of testing the community participation variable showed a regression coefficient value of 0.304. The tcount value of the community participation variable > ttable (2.047 > 2.02439) and a significant level of 0.048 <0.05. The results of testing the human resource competency variable show a regression coefficient value of 0.277. The tcount value of the human resource competence variable > ttable (2.184> 2.02439) and a significant level of 0.035 <0.05. The results of testing the community participation variable showed a regression coefficient value of 0.743. The tcount value of the community participation variable > ttable (3.262> 2.02439) and a significant level of 0.002 <0.05.

Effects of Community Participation in the Restoration of Rumuruti Forest in Laikipia County, Kenya

Reforestation is a concerted effort to discover forest formation, biodiversity, and ecosystem practices through tree planting. There is a drive by international organizations to reclaim about 150 million ha of degraded forests by 2030. The Rumuruti Forest is located in the Laikipia County of Kenya. It is a unique and biodiverse forest renowned for its high density of large mammals, including elephants, lions, leopards, and rhinoceroses. The forest is home to several rare species, such as the upright-horned antelope, the black-faced vervet monkey, and the yellow-necked spurfowl. Rumuruti Forest is an expansive 15,378-acre forest located in Laikipia County, Kenya. These benefits had been offset by rapid habitat loss and degradation despite concerted efforts by the Kenyan government to restore as well as maintain this resource. Besides, previous restoration attempts of Rumuruti forest had been ineffective, as indicated by the widespread withering of recently planted seedlings, resulting in a doubling of replanting operations. A descriptive research design was applied to describe the current state of variables that could be identified. The study's specific objective was to investigate the potential socio-economic benefits of Rumuruti forest restoration to community members. It is located 40 km due North of Nyahururu. The geographical coordinates of Rumuruti town are 0.25996°N, 36.53633°E, with a population of 31649 people. The target population for this study was 4,800 people. The sample size was 139 households. The study concluded that the community was considerably more eager to work with the government and NGOs to contribute to the restoration of the Rumuruti forest. The community desired to be more involved in the restoration operations, including tree planting, tendering, and protection. As a result, effective processes were put in place to maximize the potential to achieve optimal regeneration of the Rumuruti forest.

Governance of China's Potatso National Park Influenced by Local Community Participation.

Conservationists recognize that protected areas (PAs) have limited prospects without the involvement and support of local people. As a governance strategy, community participation is to implement the coordinated development of communities and PAs. However, the effects of community participation on national park governance have rarely been tested. Therefore, the present study used a mixed-method approach that is derived from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) green list of protected and conserved areas (PCA) conservation outcomes framework, calibrated to the indigenous peoples and local communities' (IPLCs) self-assessments about the outcomes of community participation on national park governance to explore the community participation effects. Our results show that management efficiency controls governance outcomes. Potatso National Park's transformation from the tourism development model to national park is still ongoing, and there exists quite a few problems. We conclude that a successful national park governance as envisaged by the "ecological civilization" paradigm requires a balance of government regulation, participation of various stakeholders in decision-making and discussion, compensation, as well as sustainable access to environmental resources by the affected populations.

Community Health by People's Involvement: the Characteristics and Dilemma of Community Participation in Community Health Projects of the 1970-80s, Korea.

This paper aims to historically re-evaluate the issues surrounding resident participation in health care and its legacy by examining the community participation in health care. In the 1970s and 1980s, community participation was one of crucial trends and a controversial topic in the international health as well as the international aid. Throughout the 1970s, local participation was regarded as one of essential elements for the access to basic healthcare and primary health care in developing countries. Community health projects which aimed to apply primary health care were implemented in rural areas and some urban areas in the 1970s and 1980s. Village Health Workers(VHWs) were a symbolic example of community participation in these projects. They consisted of local women and led health activities with simple skills in their villages. They served as a bridge between the project team and the residents. Health professionals expected them to be health leaders for "self-help" in health of their communities. In the mid-1980s, however, as the number of health facilities and professional health care workers increased, the activities of VHSs were decreased. The mixed understanding of the responsibilities and roles of VHSs among the health professionals affected the skeptical view on the achievement and effects of community participation in health care. In the mid-1980s, as the government officially organized the VHWs, the dilemma surrounding community participation intensified. When the community health projects were ended, most of the VHW organizations were also disbanded. After the projects, the spirit of community participation was only inherited by some healthcare movement organizations, such as medical cooperatives.

This study aims to determine the effect of the presentation of financial statements on financial management accountability, the effect of village information accessibility on financial management accountability, the effect of community participation on financial management accountability and the effect of presenting economic reviews, village statistics accessibility and network participation simultaneously (simultaneously) on management accountability. Ujung Rambe Village, Bangun Purba District, Deli Serdang Regency. This type of research is quantitative. Data collection techniques used in this study are (1) field research (field research) obtained by means of interviews, observations (observations) and questionnaires (list of questions); and (2) literature researchThe results of statistical tests have proven that partially there is a significant and significant effect of the independent variable, namely Financial Statement Presentation on the dependent variable, namely Village Fund Management Accountability. While the variables of Village Information Accessibility on Village Fund Management Accountability and Community Participation on Village Fund Management Accountability partially have an influence and are not significant. The results of the study simultaneously showed that there was a significant effect between Financial Statement Presentation, Village Information Accessibility and Community Participation on Village Fund Management Accountability and vice versa. This is indicated by the value of F count which is greater than F table.

PENGELOLAAN KEUANGAN DESA PADA DESA-DESA DI KABUPATEN KAMPAR

This study aims to determine the effect of community participation,transparency, accountability, quality of human resources,utilization of information technology and the implementation ofinternal control system on village financial management. Thisresearch was conducted in the village of Kampar Regency. Thepopulation in this study were village officials who worked at thevillage office in Kampar District, amounting to 242 villages. Thisstudy used purposive sampling. The number of samples in this studywere 150 respondents, from each village 5 respondents would betaken with the criteria of the Village Head, Village Secretary, Headof Finance, Section Chief and BPD. The test was carried out usingSPSS 25.0 for Windows and Microsoft Excel 2010. The analysistechnique in this study uses multiple regression analysis. Theresults of this study indicate that: (1) Community participationinfluences the effectiveness of village financial management;(2)Transparency influences the effectiveness of village financialmanagement; (3) Accountability influences the effectiveness ofvillage financial management; (4) The quality of human resourcesinfluences the effectiveness of village financial management; (5)The use of information technology influences the effectiveness ofvillage financial management; (6) The application of an internalcontrol system influences the effectiveness of village financialmanagement.

Community Participation in the Development of the Saluleang Mangrove Tourism Area in Bebanga Kelurahan Kalukku District, Mamuju Regency

The Saluleang mangrove ecotourism area, Bebanga Village, Kalukku District, Mamuju Regency is a developed ecotourism area, the management carried out by the community and the lack of policy support has made Saluleang mangrove ecotourism not widely known by the public. Ecotourism is a form of management that can contribute to the environment and surrounding communities. This study aims to determine: 1) Forms of community participation in mangrove forest management in the development of the Saluleang ecotourism area 2) The level of community participation in mangrove forest management activities in developing ecotourism areas. The population in this study were all residents of Bebanga Village, amounting to 8006 people. The sample in this study amounted to 100 people. This research is quantitative descriptive. Data collection techniques include observation, questionnaires and documentation. Data analysis was performed using descriptive analysis and Likert scale. Based on the research results, the form of participation that was mostly carried out by the community was the form of participation in the form of labor, namely 44%. The level of community participation in ecotourism development is in the 27-30 interval with a very high category. The results of the test on the effect of community participation in the Saluleang Ecotourism Development were 75.60% and 24.40% were influenced by other factors outside the participation and development variables.

It can be said that the better the community participation, the more the development of Human Resources in Ongko Village, so that Ho is rejected H1 accepted.

Community Participation as Both a Mediator and Moderator for the Relationship Between Functional Disability and Life Satisfaction of Individuals With Fibromyalgia

BackgroundFibromyalgia (FM) is a lifelong central nervous system disorder that can have a significant impact on an individual's functionality, community participation, employment, health-related quality of life, and life satisfaction. In the present study, we adopted the World Health Organization (WHO) International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) model as a research framework to examine the impact of FM on community participation and life satisfaction.PurposeThe present study investigates the moderating and mediating effects of community participation on the relationship between functional disability and life satisfaction.ResultsThe results indicated community participation is both a significant mediator and moderator for the relationship between functional disability and life satisfaction.ImplicationsThe negative relationship between functional disability and life satisfaction diminished when individuals with FM had high levels of community participation, and functional disability had indirect effects on life satisfaction through community participation. It is important to continue this particular line of research in order to identify specific interventions that can help individuals increase community participation and life satisfaction.

Developing a deeper understanding of positive word of mouth (WOM) in virtual brand communities through the moderator effect of community participation

Objectives: The present study examines the links between psychographic homogeneity, availability of communication avenues, and involvement with the community, emotional brand connection and positive word of mouth. In our research framework, we include these latent variables to understand if they are core positive drivers in their relationship with positive word of mouth (WOM) behavior as the core relationship outcome. All these was studied in the context of virtual brand communities foster by the company. Methodology: Using empirical data from an on-line survey sent by email, a sample of 400 members of the virtual community Apple México, manage by the company were analyzed. The members were selected randomly. The questionnaire was developed using measures from previous empirical research. The structural model was empirically tested using CFA and hypotheses tested using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS. Contribution: The results extend previous research by showing a strong positive relation between latent constructs proposed in the study and their relationship with positive word-of-mouth (WOM).

The effect of community and company participation and implementation of good forest fire governance on the forest fire policy in Indonesia

Purpose The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of community and company participation on corporate governance and forest fire prevention in the forest zone, which has a high level of vulnerability to forest fires, in Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach The survey method in this research used a quantitative approach with the survey method, with the sample being forest areas having a high level of vulnerability to forest fires in Indonesia. This study used a questionnaire instrument and was conducted from January to March 2017. The research population was 105 villages located in forest areas in six major provinces known to endure the largest forest fires in Indonesia. From a total population of 258 villages, 52 were selected for this study. The proportional random sampling area technique was used. The data analysis methods selected in this research were descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis using the partial least squares method. Findings Community and company participation has a significant effect on the implementation of good governance. The implementation of good governance has a significant effect and community and company participation has no direct effect on the forest fire policy, but through good governance mediation, an indirect effect of community participation on the forest fire policy is seen. Originality/value No previous research has comprehensively studied the role of community and company participation and implementation of good forest fire governance on the forest fire policy.

Effect of community participation in forest conservation in Ikom Agricultural Zone of Cross River State

The effect of community participation in forest conservation via participatory approach has recently become a global strategy to development. The general objective of the study was to assess the effects of community participation in forest conservation in Ikom Agricultural zone of Cross River State. The specific objectives include; to access the need for community participation in forest conservation, to ascertain the benefit of community participation in forest conservation and to identify the areas and levels of community participation in forest conservation Ikom agricultural zone comprises of Boki, Abi, Etung, Ikom, Obubra and Yakurr local government areas. Three Local Government Areas, Boki, Etung and Ikom, were specifically used for the study because they are the main forest areas in the zone. A structured questionnaire was used to obtain data for the study, and it was validated b y research experts in the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology, University of. Calabar, Calabar. The study respondents were selected using simple handling technique. Using the population frame of the various local government areas one hundred and one (101) respondents were selected from Boki local government area, eighty nine (89) from Etung local Government area and one hundred and ten (110) respondents from Ikom local Government area. A reliability test was conducted using split-half technique while Pearson product moment correlation was used to correlate the data obtained and a coefficient of rxy=80 was obtained. Data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency tables, percentages and range. The result of the analysis showed that the local communities were in a better position to monitor the forest as they have better knowledge of indigenous methods of conservation of both plants and animal species in their forest. The result also showed a range of benefits derived from community participation which include; increase in food production, income generation and availability of raw materials. The study, therefore recommended that the government should design forest conservation programmes that are participatory, democratic and bottom-top, by integrating the local people in the planning, design and implementation of forest conservation activities. Previous civic experience and Asian adolescents’ expected participation in legal protest: mediating role of self-efficacy and interest

ABSTRACTNot yet citizens, adolescents are encouraged through civic education to consider an active role in the future political life of their societies. This study seeks to understand the mediating role of political self-efficacy and political interest in the association between previous civic experience and Asian adolescents’ expected participation in legal protest. Using data from the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) 2009, which included 23,654 students from South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Thailand, a multi-group multi-level path analysis based on Rasch measures was employed to investigate how adolescent civic experiences both in and out of school influence their expected participation in legal protest. The results showed the effect of political discussion and that of school participation were fully mediated by political interest and self-efficacy. The effect of community participation was partially mediated by political interest and self-efficacy in the five societies except South Korea. While the total effect of school participation is relatively low across the five societies, the total effect of political discussion is stronger for adolescents in East Asia (South Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Hong Kong) and that of community participation is stronger in South East Asia (Thailand and Indonesia).

Connecting With Hyperlocal News Website: Cause or Effect of Civic Participation?

This is one of the first systematic explorations into the relationship between residents’ connection to a hyperlocal news website and civic participation. Integrating an ecological framework of civic participation and an audience-centered approach, the present study investigates whether residents’ connection to a hyperlocal news website serves as the cause or effect of community participation. Using survey data with probability sampling of ethnically diverse residents, the study identifies reciprocal influences between hyperlocal news connection and civic participation level. Findings suggest that the civic potential of hyperlocal digital news may result from both agentic use of and less intentional exposure to it.

The effect of community participation on conflict management

AbstractThis study aimed to investigate the relationship and effect of community participation and conflict management on gold mining resources in Khaochetluk sub-district, Tapkhlo district, Phichit province, Thailand. There were 224 participants derived from a total population of 1,712 who had participated in this study. Researchers employed cross-sectional descriptive research design utilizing questionnaire as an instrument to collect data. This instrument has been piloted and found to be validated after checking by three experts and reliable with high value of Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. The obtained data was analyzed not only using descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean score, standard deviation but also inferential statisticssuch as Pearson product moment correlation, stepwise multiple linear regression. Findings of the study indicated that both variables namely community participation as well as conflict management were at moderate level. Additionally, Pearson correlation coefficients revealed that community participation had significant, positive, and moderate relationship with conflict management (r = 0.456) at the significant level of 0.01. Consequently, result of this study revealed that there were two significant predictors toward conflict management. These two significant predictors were ‘involvement’ and‘empowerment’ components of community involvement which have successfully contributed 20.1 percent variance of conflict management at 0.01 significant level. Qualitative findings indicated that an establishment of platform to provideopportunities for community participation. An appointed committee needs for monitoring purposes. This study is able to promote the importance of community participation in conflict management.
