“Do I Have the Right?” The Process Model of Identity Work in a Leadership Development Program

Through a qualitative study of thirty Russian managers and entrepreneurs who graduated from an eighteen-month Master of Business Administration Program (MBA) in Moscow, Russia, the research proposes a process model of leadership identity work and leader efficacy development within a management education program. Key research findings reveal that the leadership identity work in a leadership development program is fuelled by people's efforts to promote their leader efficacy, and the institution helps them in this process as a holding environment. The study proposes that the identity work in a leadership development program unfolds in four phases: preparation, orientation, experimentation and confirmation. In this process, an institution serves as a supporting community, training camp, exploratory journey and a confirmation agent.

A Proposed Model for Evaluating Quality of Technology Enabled Learning in Management Education Programmes

Most businesses today have started utilizing innovative informational technologies such as digital marketing, fin-tech, digital human resources management and business analytics. Educating people on these new skills presents a business opportunity for educational technology (edtech) companies. Many technology-enhanced learning (TEL)-based business education programmes are being developed recently, promising to enhance professional skills and knowledge. The marketing information surrounding these programmes overloads learners’ minds and makes it impossible to determine which programmes are worth their time and money. Such learning solutions are developed using competency-based education (CBE) frameworks and by leveraging TEL environments. Moreover, the complexity of CBE-TEL-based interventions makes it difficult to evaluate their quality. The present study intends to overcome this challenge by identifying the qualitative factors that enhance professional competence in TEL environments. The study proposed a new model called ‘Competence Based Technology Enabled Learning’ (COBTEL), which has been empirically tested for its validity and reliability. The model is analysed using partial least squares algorithm-based structural equation modelling to evaluate TEL-based programmes’ competence-enhancing aspects from the learners’ perspective. In addition, the utilization of the COBTEL model would assist institutes, universities and governments in improving the quality of management education programmes.

The Effects of Disaster Nursing Education Program on Beliefs in General Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Response Self-Efficacy, and Psychological Resilience in Nursing Students: A Single-Blind, Randomized Controlled Study.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of a disaster nursing and management education program on beliefs in general disaster preparedness, disaster response self-efficacy, and psychological resilience in nursing students. The sample consisted of nursing students receiving undergraduate education in Istanbul, Turkey. Participants were randomly divided into the intervention ( n = 65) and control ( n = 66) groups. The intervention group was given an eight-module education program with theoretical and applied components. Data were collected using the Belief in General Disaster Preparedness Scale, the Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Brief Resilience Scale. The mean Belief in General Disaster Preparedness Scale, Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Scale, and Brief Resilience Scale scores of the intervention group were higher than those of the control group. The disaster nursing and management education program provided to nursing students was determined to increase beliefs in general disaster preparedness, disaster response self-efficacy, and psychological resilience.

Pengaruh Kemampuan Kognitif Mahasiswa MPI Terhadap Pemahaman Teori-Teori Perilaku dan Budaya Organisasi (Studi Kasus Kelas C MPI)

This study is about the influence of students' cognitive abilities on the understanding of behavioral theories and organizational culture in the Islamic Education Management education program class C UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This study involved students in MPI C class who had attended lectures on Organizational Behavior and Culture courses. This research method using survey research with quantitative approach. Intrumen research using questionnaires that have been shared on Google Form to measure students' cognitive abilities to understand behavioral theories and organizational culture. Based on the results of the study, data obtained that cognitive ability of students influenced the understanding of organizational behavior theories and organizational culture as much as 22.3% while the remaining 77.7% influenced by other variables. There was an increase in students' cognitive abilities through the learning process of behavioral courses and organizational culture with correlations ranging from 0.48.

Accounting for Plural Cognitive Framings of Growth and Sustainability: Rethinking Management Education in Latin America.

This paper surveys future managers’ cognitive framings of interconnected concerns for economic growth, social prosperity, and the natural environment across six countries in Latin America, and elaborates on implications for sustainability management education. Our cluster analysis unveils three cognitive types. Our findings show that whereas some future managers exhibit a ‘business case’ cognitive frame, prioritizing economic growth over the environment, the other two clusters of participants show signs of cognitive dissonance with some of the tenets of the current growth paradigm while still not neatly fitting the definition of a paradoxical cognitive frame. In particular, individuals within the latter two groups do not visualize links among economic, social, and environmental dimensions that make up sustainable development. Following calls to enhance our understanding of sustainability micro-foundations, our study offers a more nuanced picture of the cognitive plurality beyond dichotomous characterizations of managerial cognitive frames as either business case or paradoxical. Moreover, results elucidate the cultural mediation that operates in the reproduction of business stances vis-à-vis nature, opening up possibilities for management education programs to engage with cognitive plurality to effect paradigmatic change.Supplementary InformationThe online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s10551-022-05180-4.

Effectiveness of Pain Management Educational Program on Nurse's knowledge toward Chest Pain Management for Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction

Background: Pain management is a compelling and universal requirement in nursing care; despite significant progress, untreated pain's adverse physiological and psychological effects are still largely unresolved, especially for acute myocardial infarction patients. Objectives: This study aims to assess the nurses' knowledge and the effectiveness of the educational program on chest pain management for patients with acute myocardial infarction in the coronary care unit. Methodology: A pre-experimental design (one group, pre-test, and post-test) was used to conduct this study in the coronary care unit at Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital from (15th November 2021 to 28th April 2022). A non-probability (purposive) sample was used to test (30 nurses/e) working in the coronary care unit. Results: The results of the study showed that there were highly statistically significant differences between the nursing staff's knowledge scores in two levels of measurements (the pre-test and the post-test) with a probability value of (0.000), as the statistical average of the nursing staff's total knowledge scores in the pre-test was low (1.5) and after implementation of the educational program the results showed that there were statistically significant differences in the knowledge of nurses in the post-test. Conclusions: The study concluded that the educational program positively affects nurses' knowledge of chest pain management for acute myocardial infarction patients in the Coronary Care Unit. Recommendations: The study recommended the necessity of activating the work of the Continuing Nursing Education Unit properly to give training courses to nurses working in the coronary care unit related to chest pain management using pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods for acute myocardial infarction patients, in addition to establishing a written and updated protocol on pain management to confirm the adequacy of Standardized and safe nursing knowledge and practices.

922-P: Pilot of a Strategy to Sustain A1C Improvement among Diverse Adults with Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) Completing a Diabetes Management Program (DMP)

Strategies are needed to maintain outcomes following DMPs. We examined the impact of a sustaining strategy (SS) on A1C among T2DM completers of a 3-mos diabetes education and medications management program. From 3/2019-7/2021, DMP completers (Medicare or system insured) enrolled in a 9-mos sustaining strategy (SS) . Mos 1-3 offered remote monitoring calls for Hi >350/Lo <80mg/dL blood glucose (BG) alerts, and Mos 1-9 monthly diabetes check-in calls with BG review by a medical assistant who also addressed supplies/drug needs and self-care behaviors. Escalation to a nurse practitioner occurred for BG trends >200/< 80mg/dL or A1C > 9.0%. Reports were sent to PCPs. A1Cs were compared for DMP-alone versus DMP-plus SS. Summary statistics used frequency with percentage for categorical variables and mean with standard deviation for continuous variables. Bivariate analyses utilized the Student T test. Pre-post A1C was available for 620 completers and 175 joined the SS. Mean age was 56.2±11.9 yrs; 58.1% female; 66% Black; 25.9% Medicare, 26.6% Medicaid, & 42.4% private insured. Serial A1C outcomes by group are shown.Adults with previously uncontrolled type 2 diabetes who completed a diabetes management program and who participated in a 9-mos sustaining strategy maintained their A1C under 8% when compared to those who did not participate in the follow-up program. A new perspective when examining maize fertilizer nitrogen use efficiency, incrementally.

For maize (Zea mays L.), nitrogen (N) fertilizer use is often summarized from field to global scales using average N use efficiency (NUE). But expressing NUE as averages is misleading because grain increase to added N diminishes near optimal yield. Thus, environmental risks increase as economic benefits decrease. Here, we use empirical datasets obtained in North America of maize grain yield response to N fertilizer (n = 189) to create and interpret incremental NUE (iNUE), or the change in NUE with change in N fertilization. We show for those last units of N applied to reach economic optimal N rate (EONR) iNUE for N removed with the grain is only about 6%. Conversely stated, for those last units of N applied over 90% is either lost to the environment during the growing season, remains as inorganic soil N that too may be lost after the growing season, or has been captured within maize stover and roots or soil organic matter pools. Results also showed iNUE decrease averaged 0.63% for medium-textured soils and 0.37% for fine-textured soils, attributable to fine-textured soils being more predisposed to denitrification and/or lower mineralization. Further analysis demonstrated the critical nature growing season water amount and distribution has on iNUE. Conditions with too much rainfall and/or uneven rainfall produced low iNUE. Producers realize this from experience, and it is uncertain weather that largely drives insurance fertilizer additions. Nitrogen fertilization creating low iNUE is environmentally problematic. Our results show that with modest sub-EONR fertilization and minor forgone profit, average NUE improvements of ~10% can be realized. Further, examining iNUE creates unique perspective and ideas for how to improve N fertilizer management tools, educational programs, and public policies and regulations.

Curriculum Gaps in Public Administration: Perceptions of Academicians and other Stakeholders in the Philippines

This paper aims to examine the limited area of public management education program of more than 70 institutions of higher education learning in the Philippines. The examination focused on distinguishing the variations of experts, college/university administrators, teachers, and students towards developing the public sector/administration management curriculum. To achieve the research objectives, it applies a survey in three phases. The first and second phase deals with questionnaire distribution to Master of Public Administration students, teachers, college administrators, and experts. The third phase was the distribution of questionnaires to all participants who have given their opinion on the proposed curriculum, their objectives, and the subjects/courses. The findings disclosed that the established curriculum confirmed with the Commission on Higher Education standards consisting of the core or professional subjects, research and evaluation, major subjects, and thesis writing. This study is helpful by universities in offering the public sector management curriculum at the master's level.

Procurement innovation as a vehicle for sustainable change – a case study of the Danish model of strategic partnerships

Purpose Efficient and effective knowledge transfer is important in complex building renovation projects. The addition of sustainability requirements in building renovation adds complexity. This paper aims to investigate the development of innovative public procurement schemes to support sustainable building renovation projects. These blueprints for procurement innovation can support similar efforts in other countries. Design/methodology/approach This study is based on a longitudinal case study using interviews with primary stakeholders and workshops with industry practitioners to supplement the analysis of public tender documents from the Danish public building clients. Findings The key tenants of the Danish model for strategic partnerships are a single strategic partner, systematic conflict resolution, framework agreements, risk management and joint educational programs. Three phases in the development of the procurement scheme are identified: experiment, definition and replication. Originality/value Strategic partnerships and other types of relational contract schemes are not very prevalent in most countries. How these contracts are developed and defined is not well understood. This paper shows how one such contracting scheme is developed, how it is defined and replicated.

Managing patients' pain in the intensive care units: Nurses' awareness of pain management.

Objectives:To assess nurses’ knowledge and attitudes toward pain management in intensive care units (ICUs) in Saudi Arabia.Methods:A cross-sectional correlational study was carried out at 5 governmental hospitals in the Al-Qassim region (namely, Buraydah Centeral Hospital, King Fahad Spcialist Hospital, Al Rass General Hospital, Bukariyah General Hospital, and Al Badaya General Hospital) using purposive sampling to collect data between May 2020 and July 2020. Nurses’ awareness of pain management was assessed using the Nurses’ Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain (NKASRP). Statistical Pacaksge for the Social Sciences software was used for data analysis. Descriptive statistics were employed. The Spearman’s correlation test was carried out to determine correlations.Results:The mean score for ICUs nurses’ pain management awareness was 22.59, suggesting knowledge and behaviors deficits toward pain management. Positive correlations were found between nurses’ age, total years of clinical nursing experience, and their total score on pain management awareness. Nurses’ gender, religion, education, and years of experience as ICU nurses showed no association with their scores on NKASRP.Conclusion:Insufficient pain management knowledge and unacceptable attitudes were established among nurses owing to several barriers and obstacles. Pain assessment and management educational programs should be held regularly for all nurses in the Al-Qassim, Saudi Arabia, especially ICU nurses.

The career paths of executive directors: Founders, fillers, planners and risers

AbstractThis paper analyzes qualitative interview data with a sample of 41 executive directors of human services nonprofits to discover why people become executive directors, what career paths they follow, and how well these career paths prepare them for the job. All became executive directors because they wanted to help others. Less important motivations included influencing how programs operate, wanting to be successful, and wanting a higher salary. The paper proposes a new typology of career paths: founders who started their own nonprofit, fillers from the board or a volunteer position, planners who actively pursued an executive position for years, and risers who worked their way up through the ranks and found that executive director was the next step. Most considered themselves well prepared at the time they took on the position, and there was little difference among the four types of career paths in the level of perceived preparedness. The findings suggest that nonprofit organizations should pay more attention to training leaders who rise up through the ranks, and that management education programs can assist in this mid‐career training. Future research should expand the examination of career paths and preparedness to a large and nationally representative survey.

Confronting COVID-19 Whilst Elementary School Students Resume In-Person Learning

Resuming in-person teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic implies that schools must deploy strategies to enforce adherence to the safety protocols to help contain and reduce the spread of the corona virus disease among school children. Thus, the current qualitative study adopted a case study design to explore strategies that were deployed to enforce adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols among elementary school students. A semi-structured interview guide was used to gather data from 30 teachers enrolled in a one-year master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Management program at a public university in Ghana. The study showed that strict and compulsory handwashing before entering the school was deployed to ensure adherence to handwashing safety protocol, provision of veronica buckets contributed to adherence to handwashing. Also, interventions that were deployed to enforce social distancing were spacing of desk, having mealtime in class, eating meals in turns, suspension of assembly and other social gatherings, split class for shift system. Additionally, schools ensured students wore nose masks by providing nose masks to students who could not afford.

Effect of Loneliness and Depressive Symptoms on Smartphone Overdependence among South Korean Adolescents: A Nationwide Cross-Sectional Study

Background: This study utilized data from the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey to determine the impact of depressive symptoms and loneliness on smartphone overdependence among South Korean adolescents.Methods: This study performed a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data from the 16th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey (2020). Data (n=57,925 adolescents aged 12-18 years) were collected from August to November 2020 during the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The relationships between depressive symptoms, loneliness, and smartphone overdependence were analyzed using complex sample multiple logistic regression analyses.Results: One-quarter of adolescents had developed smartphone overdependence (30.0% of girls and 21.2% of boys). Smartphone overdependence was influenced by depressive symptoms and loneliness, regardless of sex.Conclusions: Appropriate interventions and policies should be developed to resolve smartphone overdependence by reducing adolescents’ depressive symptoms and loneliness. Appropriate help should be provided to these adolescents to promote good mental health. Psychological vulnerability should be considered when providing educational or health management programs to adolescents. Appropriate measures should be developed for the prevention and early screening of depressive symptoms, loneliness, and smartphone overdependence in adolescents, with increased interest in minimizing the related social problems.

주택 평면계획을 활용한 초등학생 시간관리 교육 프로그램 개발

Objectives The purpose of this study is to develop a time management education program using a house Floor plan and to analyze its effect on improving the time management ability of elementary school students.
 Methods In this study, research literature on time management education program was reviewed, and a time management education program was developed using house floor plan and jenga that are familiar and spatially understandable to elementary school students. The education program developed in this study was conducted for 16 students in the 5th grade of elementary school.
 Results As a result of analysis through a single group before and after test time management ability, After receiving time management education program class using house floor plan, students time management ability improved. All sub-components of time management skills of setting goals, priority decision, planning, executing, and evaluating also increased.
 Conclusions The time management education program using the house floor plan is effective in improving the time management ability of elementary school students. In addition, the students was satisfied with the time management activities of setting the goals for the house they wanted, prioritizing them, and planning and executing them.

Analysis of Nursing Management Unstable Blood Glucose Levels in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a clinical syndrome of impaired metabolic secretion, insulin action, or both characterized by hyperglycemia. Various nursing problems can occur due to hyperglycemic conditions that are not handled properly. The instability of blood glucose levels is a major problem that occurs in uncontrolled DM patients. This condition can lead to various complications and complications so comprehensive treatment management is needed.
 Objectives: This study aims to explore and analyze the nursing management of unstable blood glucose levels in type 2 DM patients who were hospitalized.
 Methods: This study is a qualitative study using an exploratory case study method in diabetes mellitus patients type 2 who were hospitalized. The data obtained were processed and analyzed based on theories that explain the occurrence of the problem of instability in blood glucose levels and the nursing management carried out in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
 Results: The results of this study indicate that the main problem in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is the instability of blood glucose levels which is characterized by hyperglycemia. Nursing management carried out is monitoring blood glucose level laboratory results, management of hyperglycemia, medication management, nutrition/diet management, treatment, and care education programs can reduce blood glucose levels.
 Conclusion: The problem of blood glucose instability is a priority problem in type 2 diabetes mellitus and comprehensive nursing management will determine the success of controlling blood glucose levels so that they are normal and stable.

Moderators and predictors in a parent hearing aid management eHealth program

Objective Consistent hearing aid use is essential for spoken language development of children who are hard of hearing. A recent randomised controlled trial of an eHealth hearing aid management education program found the intervention increased knowledge, perceptions, confidence, and device monitoring among parents of young children. Yet, it is not known which variables can be a point of emphasis to improve treatment outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate potential moderators and predictors in the eHealth program. Design Randomised controlled trial Study Sample Parents (N = 78) of children (42 months or younger) were randomised to the intervention or treatment-as-usual (TAU) group. Results Results revealed that high psychological inflexibility, low parent activation, and low hours of hearing aid use may moderate device monitoring frequency and knowledge; parents in the intervention improved over time compared to the TAU group. Psychological inflexibility and parent activation also predicted treatment outcomes. Conclusion The findings suggest the need to address parent psychological inflexibility related to hearing loss management, parents’ role in their child’s hearing aid management, and reported hours of hearing aid use as part of hearing aid service delivery. Identification of barriers to hearing aid management can assist audiologists in adjusting support to improve outcomes.

Influencing Work Culture: A Strengths-Based Nursing Leadership and Management Education Program.

Little is understood about developing the capacity of healthcare leaders to influence work cultures that promote health and healing. A program designed for clinical leaders to teach them how to create Strengths-Based care environments was piloted and evaluated using mixed methods. Data were collected from a convenience sample of 15 participants from two clinical sites. Evaluation of the data revealed that the program was impactful and that participants had the impetus to influence work environments by shifting their discourse from traditional deficit models of care toward an approach that illuminates a focus on strengths and relational ways of being a leader.

COVID: The Missing Trigger to Start a Remote FIT Course.

Type 1 diabetes management is a highly demanding task that largely falls on people with diabetes, their family, and their peers. Diabetes self-management education and support aim at increasing knowledge, skills, and confidence to take appropriate diabetes management decisions. The current evidence shows that efficient diabetes self-management relies on person-centered interventions and a team of pluri-disciplinary educators with expertise in diabetes care and education. The irruption of the COVID-19 pandemic has increased diabetes burden and the need to offer remote diabetes self-management education services. The present article offers a perspective about expectations and quality issues related to the implementation of a remote version of the FIT course, a validated structured diabetes management educational program.
