RELEVANCE OF BUILDING ENGINEERING EDUCATION CURRICULUM TOWARDS SKKNI BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT COMPETENCIES

Indonesia's rapidly growing construction industry is a key economic driver, presenting both challenges and opportunities for graduates of the Building Engineering Education Program. Higher education plays a crucial role in developing competent human resources with the relevant knowledge, skills, and expertise to meet industry needs. This study maps the qualifications of technicians and analysts based on the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) in the construction sector and analyzes the alignment of competency units with Building Engineering Education State University of Jakarta course outcomes. The analysis of SKKNI data from 2024 found that out of 71 job levels in the building subclassification, 14 are for technicians or analysts at KKNI levels 4 to 6, but only 10 have detailed SKKNI documents. In the construction management classification, there are 39 job levels, with 16 for technicians/analysts, all with detailed SKKNI documents. The analysis indicates that 11 job levels are relevant to Building Engineering Education course outcomes, while two are not. Specifically, several job levels in both subclassifications are rated from Relevant to Very Relevant. To address curriculum gaps, recommendations include strengthening the existing curriculum and adding new courses. This study aims to provide a foundation for curriculum revitalization, ensuring Building Engineering Education graduates are competitive in the labor market and meet the evolving needs of the construction industry.

Implementing a rapid application development course in higher education and measuring its impact using Kirkpatrick’s model: a case study at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University

Nowadays, technological development and improvement in business is happening rapidly, so higher education (HE), and not only, studies should constantly provide and develop new up-to-date knowledge and skills to students, in order to train competitive specialists, address digital transformation by developing digital readiness of higher institutions, and increase employment opportunities of students. Consequently, this paper discusses the implementation of the newly developed courses for teaching Rapid Application Development (RAD) on the Oracle Application Express platform into the studies at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) and presents the effectiveness of the implementation of this course measured using Kirkpatrick’s model. The obtained results show that students’ knowledge of RAD increased after attending the course. In addition, a 76% agreed that this course increased their knowledge of the subject matter.

Immersive Sciences: Engaging Young Minds in Natural Sciences through Virtual and Augmented Reality

This study investigated the impact of virtual environments (VEs), such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), on learning processes within Natural Sciences course of second-grade primary education. To address this objective, an experimental study was designed using a sample of 24 students aged 7 to 8 years from Spain. The subjects used VR and AR to teach about the human body. Knowledge gains were evaluated with pre-tests, post-tests, and delayed tests. Results showed significant improvements in student understanding of the human body. All students improved their results after the experience using VEs, and 14 students achieved post-test scores 80% higher than their pre-test results. The gains obtained through the experience were sustained over time, even after 52 days. While VEs were generally well-received and sparked interest among students in continuing their use, some expressed a preference for traditional learning methods. This research highlights the potential of using VR and AR to overcome challenges in learning abstract or inscrutable concepts in Natural Sciences, such as understanding the internal elements of the human body. By offering immersive experiences, these tools provide a more realistic and tangible view of the subject matter. However, they should be used to complement, not replace, other methodologies, ensuring they align with the student' interests and needs.

The Opinions of Theology Faculty Undergraduates and Graduates on Interdisciplinary Learning

Interdisciplinary learning improves cognitive skills and increases motivation for learning and teaching in higher education. Interdisciplinary education, which requires the collaboration of different disciplines, contributes to the development of students by integrating disciplinary knowledge and providing a multidimensional perspective. Thus, interdisciplinary education has become an alternative approach to discipline-centered education in higher education. Interdisciplinary learning is necessary for postmodern life because it eliminates the limitations of disciplinary education. The complex nature of the problems posed by postmodern life requires the collaboration of many disciplines. Current political, economic, social, religious, and legal issues are too complex to be solved from the perspective of a single discipline. Discipline-centered education may not be sufficient to provide solutions to current problems or to equip students with problem-solving skills. For this reason, this study reveals that interdisciplinary learning, which is increasing in higher education, can also be applied to higher religious education. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the outcomes of interdisciplinary learning in higher religious education through a sample training. In the academic year 2023/2024, an interdisciplinary training was conducted on the common problems of theology and other disciplines, and the results were revealed through the views of 16 participants. The research was conducted as a case study by using the qualitative research method, and the research data were coded under four themes: (1) need for interdisciplinary learning in higher religious education, (2) disciplines associated with higher religious education, (3) outcomes of interdisciplinary learning, and (4) suggestions for interdisciplinary education. According to the research findings, the participants believe that courses in higher religious education have interdisciplinary content, that interdisciplinary education is necessary in higher religious education, and that interdisciplinary learning contributes to personal and professional development. It is recommended that studies be carried out using alternative approaches to improve higher religious education.

Analyzing The Impact of Project-Based Learning STEAM Flipped Classroom on Computer Architecture and Organization Courses in Higher Education

This study examines the differences in students' creative thinking skills between the project-based learning STEAM Flipped Classroom and the direct learning STEAM Flipped Classroom model by paying attention to the role of academic self-efficacy as a moderator variable. The research population consists of students in informatics engineering study programs in the Denpasar area of Bali. The study used a quasi-experimental 2 x 2 factorial design. Data collection is carried out through questionnaires and test instruments. Data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistics, as well as analysis of covariance. The results showed a significant difference in students' creative thinking skills between those who learned with the STEAM Flipped Classroom project learning model and the STEAM Flipped Classroom direct learning model. In addition, there are differences in students' creative thinking skills based on the level of academic self-efficacy. The empirical application of the STEAM Flipped Classroom project model is proven to help students generate new ideas, develop ideas, and improve their thinking skills. However, the findings suggest that flexible thinking skills must be further enhanced. Students with high self-efficacy tend to be more proactive in providing constructive ideas in project-based learning activities. This research implies that it is necessary to actively motivate and share experiential stories with students who have low self-efficacy. In the future, I suggest that universities adopt the innovative learning model of project-based learning STEAM flipped Classroom to improve the creative thinking skills of informatics engineering students at the college level.

The role of web applications in the development of multilingual competence in CLIL courses in higher education

The purpose of the work is to determine the role of web technologies to ensure the formation of multilingual competence within the CLIL approach. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among students of various specialties, however, with a special emphasis on students of technical universities. The survey was conducted among 58 students. Questionnaires were used, including questions about the use of web applications in various forms of education. The results of the survey showed the high efficiency of using web applications in CLIL courses for the formation of both language competence and subject knowledge. The CLIL method combined with modern web applications proved to be an effective tool in the students' learning process. The implementation of the program of this approach allows not only the problem of educational overload, but also the strengthening of the general development of students, including their language skills. In the conclusions, it is noted that for the successful implementation of the CLIL program, it is necessary to provide students with essential terms and to acquire a foreign language and the availability of trained teaching staff.

일반계 고등학교에서 체육계열 전문교과 운영 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to recognize the current situation, analyze the difficulties, and propose improvement measures for the effective operation of specialized subjects in physical education in general high schools. Methods: This study utilized Colaizzi's phenomenological analysis method to draw conclusions from five physical education teachers who had experience of operating specialized subjects in physical education in a general high school. Results: First, the specialty departments recognized the need for specialized practical subjects and in-depth training for career advancement. Secondly, the cases of poor teaching due to cumbersome course organization, insufficient budgetary support, harsh teaching environment due to complex teaching conditions, arbitrary application of teaching, and lack of teaching materials were identified as difficulties in the operation of specialized subjects in physical education. Third, it was concluded that teachers' willingness to personalize education and learner-centered elective courses are necessary for the continued operation of specialized subjects in physical education. Conclusion: In conclusion, in the upcoming 2022 revised curriculum, physical education specialty courses will be more accessible to students as general education electives, so it is necessary to find more effective ways to operate them through the experience of operating specialized subjects in physical education.

Exploring History Teachers’ Understanding of the Goals of History Teaching and Historical Thinking Skills in Secondary Schools

The purpose of this study was to explore history teachers’ inclination toward the goals of teaching disciplinary history, active teaching methods, and their experiences with historical thinking skills during their college education and their classroom practices. The qualitative thematic analysis explores how secondary school history teachers’ beliefs and background knowledge about their subject matter influence classroom practices. It focuses on their conceptions of history and historical thinking, teaching goals, teaching methods, and instructional materials. The results revealed that teachers’ educational training and history courses significantly influence their disciplinary knowledge and teaching practices. In the quantitative phase, the findings reveal that the status of teacher experiences and efficacy with all the historical thinking skills indicators, namely, sourcing, contextualization, corroboration and explicit instruction, varies as revealed in the result section. To address this issue, the researchers suggested the need for teachers to update their professional development and incorporate historical thinking skills into classroom activities, fostering engagement and agency, and intensive training for in-service history teachers. In this preliminary phase, we use these exploratory findings and research on teachers’ conceptions of their discipline and practices of historical thinking skills to propose an interventional framework for teaching history.

Developing Physical Education Curricula Within the Framework of Digital Transformation to Achieve Sustainable Development

The importance of the study is due to improving the quality of learning and enhancing interaction and participation in the educational process. Achieving personalized and effective learning in the field of physical education. Enhancing self-learning and enabling students to better discover and develop their mathematical skills. The study aims: The goal of developing physical education curricula in the era of “artificial intelligence” is to improve the learning process and enhance students’ sports performance. Analysis of individual performance through the use of advanced technology and artificial intelligence. Study methodology: The researcher used the descriptive survey method and the experimental method due to its suitability to the nature of the study. Study design: The study was designed by collecting data through questionnaires in a way that allows for the collection of appropriate data to test the hypothesis. Data collection methods: Through interviews, questionnaires are distributed to specialists in developing curricula and methods of teaching physical education to most physical education teachers and in the Department of Curricula and Methods of Teaching Physical Education and in Arab and foreign countries. Their number is (80) experts in curricula and methods of teaching physical education. Communication was made via Academic communication sites ((Research Gate - Academy Gate - Google Scholar - sci space ai) The conclusions were that there were statistically significant differences between the means in favor of the experimental group. The effect size values were high, which indicates a significant positive impact of the smart system in improving the scientific and methodological nature of physical education. This indicates the effectiveness of using smart teaching systems in teaching physical education. It can be concluded that the effectiveness of using modern curriculum design methods in improving the curriculum design skills of students of the College of Physical Education. There is a need to develop similar training programs to develop the curriculum design skills of teachers and curriculum designers. The recommendations were: Adopting smart teaching systems and multimedia in teaching physical education courses due to their effectiveness Developing training programs to develop curriculum design skills among teachers and curriculum designers in physical education colleges. Reducing the number of students in classes and training teachers on an ongoing basis. Involving faculty members in developing physical education curricula and training teaching assistants. Paying attention to the continuous professional development of physical education teachers. Analysis of the Teaching Reform Path for Environmental Engineering Technology Majors in Higher Vocational Education Based on the “1+X” Certificate

In the context of building an innovative country, the country has put forward higher requirements for talent cultivation in vocational colleges. Vocational colleges should continuously explore and improve talent cultivation work to meet these requirements while cultivating more professional and practical talents for the country and society. This article takes the Environmental Engineering Technology major as an example. Integrating the concept of “1+X” certificate into environmental engineering technology teaching can better construct the curriculum system of the Environmental Engineering Technology major, make the curriculum structure more scientific, complete and standardized, and help students understand the connection between certificates and education from multiple perspectives, thereby achieving effective reform of the curriculum of the Environmental Engineering Technology major. Based on this, the article will elaborate on the concept and significance of the “1+X” certificate and analyze in detail the teaching system construction ideas of the environmental engineering technology major courses in higher vocational education under the background of the “1+X” certificate. Studying the shortcomings in the current development of environmental engineering technology education in higher vocational education in China and proposing improvement measures for the environmental engineering technology major courses in higher vocational education to address existing problems will provide certain references and assistance for the subsequent reform of environmental engineering teaching in higher vocational education in China.

LLM-based automatic short answer grading in undergraduate medical education

BackgroundMultiple choice questions are heavily used in medical education assessments, but rely on recognition instead of knowledge recall. However, grading open questions is a time-intensive task for teachers. Automatic short answer grading (ASAG) has tried to fill this gap, and with the recent advent of Large Language Models (LLM), this branch has seen a new momentum.MethodsWe graded 2288 student answers from 12 undergraduate medical education courses in 3 languages using GPT-4 and Gemini 1.0 Pro.ResultsGPT-4 proposed significantly lower grades than the human evaluator, but reached low rates of false positives. The grades of Gemini 1.0 Pro were not significantly different from the teachers’. Both LLMs reached a moderate agreement with human grades, and a high precision for GPT-4 among answers considered fully correct. A consistent grading behavior could be determined for high-quality keys. A weak correlation was found wrt. the length or language of student answers. There is a risk of bias if the LLM knows the human grade a priori.ConclusionsLLM-based ASAG applied to medical education still requires human oversight, but time can be spared on the edge cases, allowing teachers to focus on the middle ones. For Bachelor-level medical education questions, the training knowledge of LLMs seems to be sufficient, fine-tuning is thus not necessary.

Integration of AI Training in the Field of Higher Education in the Republic of Bulgaria: An Overview

The presented work provides a comprehensive evaluation of the current availability of education programs and courses related to of AI the field of Information Technologies and Computer Science in higher education institutions (HIEs) in the Republic of Bulgaria. More specifically, this study examines 163 bachelor’s and 239 master’s degree programs from 28 HEIs available during the 2023/24 academic year in four professional fields: (1) Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Automation; (2) Communication and Computer Technologies; (3) Informatics and Computer Science; and (4) Mathematics. The conducted evaluation shows that 41.1% of evaluated BSc programs and 26.4% of MSc programs include at least one AI-dedicated course. Results indicate a significant presence of AI-focused education, particularly in degrees related to Informatics and Computer Science, where 47.8% of AI courses are concentrated. However, a notable disparity exists in the inclusion of AI subjects across other technical fields, particularly in Electrical Engineering and related degrees, which contain only 8% of the identified AI courses for BSc degree programs. The findings highlight the need for a broader and more accelerated integration of AI education to meet the evolving demands of both students and the labor market. This work underscores the importance of strategic curriculum adaptation to enhance the readiness of Bulgarian HEIs to support the development and application of AI technologies, addressing the skills gap and fostering a workforce capable of navigating the AI-driven future.

Insights into an innovative point of care ultrasound curriculum for Ontario primary maternity care providers

Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) has increasingly been used by midwives worldwide. In 2018, the scope of midwifery care in Ontario was expanded to include POCUS to allow practitioners to provide more comprehensive care. In response to the scope expansion, a new continuing POCUS education course was created in collaboration with faculty and clinicians from obstetrics, midwifery, and medical radiation sciences. The continuing education sonography course focused on fostering the knowledge, skills and judgment Ontario midwives required to safely perform these new POCUS skills. The course included online modules, a two-day hands-on bootcamp workshop, and a clinical practicum under the supervision of a sonographer to confirm competency across the three trimesters of pregnancy. The first cohort of 17 learners completed the course in Fall 2019, the new curriculum was well received by learners for its many benefits into learning and applying bedside sonography to clinical care. This paper outlines our process for POCUS curriculum development and implementation in pregnancy care. This POCUS continuing education course should continue to be offered in the future to give more practitioners the ability to perform point of care pregnancy scans.

Pediatric Dentists' Practice Patterns in the Screening, Diagnosis, and Management of Temporomandibular Disorders.

Pain associated with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) is the main non-odontogenic cause of orofacial pain among youth. Pediatric dentists are often the first healthcare practitioners to perform a comprehensive oral examination in children, which should include evaluation of the temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles, and surrounding structures for signs and/or symptoms of TMD. This study assessed pediatric dentists' practice patterns in the screening, diagnosis, and management of TMD. A 19-item online survey was used to assess pediatric dentists' clinical practice patterns and perceived knowledge and comfort levels in the screening, diagnosis, and management of TMD. The survey was distributed in July 2024, with a one-month window open for the study. Confidence levels and perceived knowledge were compared according to years from graduation and frequency of TMD screening assessment with ANOVA or independent t-test, as appropriate. Open-ended items were analyzed thematically. A total of 206 pediatric dentists and pediatric dentistry residents participated in this study. A share of 72.8% of respondents reported that up to 25% of their patients per week present with signs and symptoms of TMD. About one-fifth of pediatric dental providers never complete a screening history for TMD (22.1%) or a clinical assessment of TMD-related structures (21.6%). There was overall low self-perceived knowledge and confidence among pediatric dentists regarding the diagnosis, screening, and management of TMD in children and adolescents, regardless of the number of years from graduation. Respondents who reported seeing up to 50% of TMD patients reported significantly more knowledge and confidence in diagnosing pediatric TMD than those who encountered fewer TMD patients. An overwhelming majority (81.6%) indicated a need for continuing education courses and training focused on the management of TMD in pediatric patients. Providers reported low confidence and self-perceived knowledge about TMD in pediatric populations, a high rate of referral of patients with TMD, and a particular interest for professional development opportunities focused on management of TMD.

Research on the Integration of Swimming Courses and Ideological and Political Education in Colleges and Universities from the Perspective of “Curriculum Ideology and Politics”

This article presents an analysis of the forms and results of integrating university swimming courses with ideological and political education, with a particular focus on the “ideology and politics of the curriculum.” The study employs questionnaires and experimental measures administered to university students to analyze the role of swimming courses in reducing anxiety levels and to discuss strategies for integrating them into ideological and political education. The findings indicate that swimming lessons have a marked effect in reducing students’ anxiety levels and enhancing their mental well-being. The incorporation of ideological and political education, including “red stories” (narratives related to the history and ideology of the Communist Party of China), team competitions, and situational learning, into the curriculum has been observed to enhance students’ patriotism, sense of social responsibility, and teamwork spirit. The study demonstrates the efficacy of integrating swimming courses with ideological and political education, providing theoretical and empirical support for the integration of physical education courses with ideological and political education in universities.

Decoding futsal offensive game moments: an in-depth qualitative study with expert coaches

ABSTRACT Purpose In futsal, coaches must make decisions in unpredictable contexts by continuously selecting the most relevant information to understand the game dynamics. This study aims to characterise and interpret what elite futsal coaches perceive as critical information. Specifically, per each game moment, it was intended to explore the coaches’ perceptions about what is the critical information presented. Methods Ten expert futsal coaches (48.30 ± 5.85 years; experience 18.10 ± 4.12 years) that currently coach elite futsal teams were selected. A total of 37 video clips were selected and exhibited. Qualitative data was obtained through semi-structured interviews and analysed by content analysis. Results The findings portrayed expert coaches identified and interpreted different informational constraints as critical according to the environment of play. In detail, to explain the attack, coaches perceived the information related with the defensive system. Also, most of the information highlighted was related with individual actions that sustains team’s behaviour in relation to the opponent. Conclusion The informational constraints that support coaches’ perception about each game moment were specific to each play circumstances. Thus, we emphasised the need for coach education courses to master the interplay between knowledge about and knowledge of the environment, in developing novice coaches.

Research on the Construction of Entrepreneurship Education Curriculum Group in Agriculture and Forestry Colleges––Taking Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University as an Example

Although the curriculum construction of innovation and entrepreneurship in colleges and universities has made great achievements in recent years, the problems in the practice process are also more prominent. This study adheres to the principle of combining theory and practice and adopts the interview method in the specific practice process to interview the staff and researchers involved in the design and research of the construction of innovation and entrepreneurship education course groups, to understand and master the real situation of the construction of entrepreneurship education course group. Thus, a college student entrepreneurship education course group integrating classroom teaching, experiment teaching, practice teaching and entrepreneurial competition resources was constructed.
