The Influence of College Physical Education on Sports Industry Economy

With the promotion of national emphasis on physical education and the vigorous development of sports industry economy, the role of physical education in colleges and universities is increasingly prominent. The purpose of this paper is to explore the influence of college physical education on the economic development of sports industry, analyze the internal relationship between college physical education and sports industry economy, and provide theoretical support for the reform and development of college physical education. This paper mainly uses the method of literature analysis, through the combing of relevant literature, to understand some universities and sports enterprises online, and to conduct scientific comprehensive analysis of the collected information. It is found that physical education in colleges and universities has an important impact on the development of sports industry economy. On the one hand, college physical education has trained a large number of sports professionals, which provides human resources support for the sports industry; On the other hand, the construction and operation of sports facilities in colleges and universities has also driven the demand for related sports products and services, and promoted the development of the sports industry. In addition, the holding of sports events and activities in colleges and universities has also led to the development of related industries such as spectator and tourism. Therefore, strengthen the deep integration of college physical education and sports industry, and give full play to the leading role of college physical education in the development of sports industry.

Context of Digital Transformation Integration of Digital Technology Development and Innovation Entrepreneurship Education in Higher Education

In the process of education digitisation, novel and powerful digital technologies have been widely innovated, developed and applied, which have greatly changed the technological environment of innovation and entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities. As the main position of talent input, colleges and universities should take full advantage of the east wind of the rapid development of digital technology to inject strong vitality and impetus into innovation and entrepreneurship education, and keep exploring new paths of dual-creation education. This paper aims to provide theoretical and practical guidance for the continuous optimisation of the higher education system. It analyses the necessity of carrying out innovation and entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities in the context of the new era, explores the relationship and role of the development of digital technology in colleges and universities and innovation and entrepreneurship education, and finally puts forward the strategies and paths to promote the development of innovation and entrepreneurship education.

The utopia of transdisciplinary palliative care

Palliative care is a strategy to provide comprehensive care to people with chronic, advanced and incurable diseases, care that demands holistic care that integrates the knowledge of different professionals not only in salud, but in other areas of training, to achieve an articulated way to respond to the needs of the sick person and their close relatives, leaving aside the traditional hegemonic model that is based on the search for healing, from a single knowledge; In the search for this ideal, various concepts such as multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity have been used, which, although not yet fully internalized, are advancing towards transdisciplinary palliative care. This article presents a reflection on transdisciplinarity from the perspective of the author Castro Gómez, this concept from university education and the impact on the work reality of professionals regardless of the discipline to which they belong, accompanied by a reflection of the transdisciplinary concept in palliative care and the possible impact on the resolution of palliative needs of the sick person and his family, revealing one of the biggest challenges for health professionals who provide care in this area

The Impact of ChatGPT-like Artificial Intelligence on Ideological and Political Education

The rapid development of artificial intelligence technology and application led by ChatGPT has brought a strong impact on all walks of life, and has also brought application possibilities for the ideological and political education work in colleges at the forefront of the Internet to build an "intelligent core". ChatGPT can provide information and knowledge, promote interaction and exchange, assist teaching and research, and provide more comprehensive and diversified support and services for the ideological and political education. However, due to its lack of emotional understanding ability, lack of experience and intuition of human teachers, its application will be accompanied by some risks. In this context, this paper studies the opportunities and challenges of the application of ChatGPT in the network ideological and political education in colleges and universities, in order to improve the quality of the ideological and political education in colleges.

Методологические основания формирования универсальных учебных действий в контексте идей концепции «Феноменология развития и бытия личности» В.С. Мухиной

<p>The article considers the methodological foundations for the formation of universal educational actions as the basis for the creation of metasubject results of general secondary education and it examines the key ideas of cultural-historical and system-activity approaches that are fundamental in achieving the main results of school education. The authors substantiate the importance of implementing these ideas at the level of federal state educational standards in order to systematize, standardize and regulate the activities of teachers in a modern school. The article also reveals the interrelation of the currently existing methodology for the formation of universal educational actions with the ideas of the concept of the V.S. Mukhina's scientific school «Phenomenology of personality development and being». Here’s also substantiated the productivity of considering V.S. Mukhina's scientific ideas on the mental mechanisms of identification-isolation and factors determining the development of the personality, including: 1 – genotypic prerequisites, as methodological foundations for the formation of cognitive, communicative and regulatory universal educational actions; 2 – external conditions (the reality of the objective world, the reality of figurative and symbolic systems, natural reality, the reality of the socio-normative space); 3 – the internal position of the personality. The authors consider the interrelation of personal educational outcomes with universal educational activities as well. They also defend the idea that the prior purpose of education is personal development.</p>

Procedural fairness during university education and students’ trust in science and scientists

ABSTRACT Procedural fairness encourages numerous beneficial organizational behaviors across many institutional settings, including schools. However, little research has explored the consequences of fair treatment in the higher education context. To address this gap, we conducted three studies exploring whether students’ experience of procedural (un)fairness during university education predicts their trust in scientists in particular and trust in science, generally. The participants were university students from Poland (N = 240), the UK (N = 500), and the US (N = 501) recruited through online panels. In all three studies, we administered a questionnaire about students’ experiences of treatment during university studies. We used regression analysis (Studies 1 and 2) and Structural Equation Modelling (Study 3) for data analysis. We found that students’ experience of procedural justice was positively correlated with their trust in science, and negatively linked with their belief in conspiracy theories about COVID-19 vaccines. This effect was partially mediated by students’ trust in scientists in Study 2 and fully mediated in Study 3. In other words, interacting with fair academic teachers leads students to trust scientists initially and ultimately develop trust in science in general. The experience of fairness also reduces conspiracy beliefs, a finding especially salient in the light of the recent pandemic. Our research supports the understanding that trust is relational and interpersonal rather than an abstract and generalized attitude. We also contribute to the study of higher education by highlighting the significance of quality academic experience for shaping students’ broader attitudes.

Integration Experiences of International Students: A Case Study of Sub-Saharan Students in a Moroccan School of Design and Engineering

An increasing number of international Students opt for studying at a university in a foreign country. It is believed that this mobility makes these students face academic and social integrating challenges in their new learning environment. In Morocco, thousands of students, who are scholarship-granted by the Moroccan government, coming from different countries, chiefly from Sub-Saharan Africa seek education in different universities of the kingdom. The main aim of this study extends its focus to explore two outcomes. Particularly, it investigates the social and academic integration experiences of a case study of international students undertaking an undergraduate programme at a Moroccan school of design and engineering along with the challenges these students encounter. Moreover, the study situates these experiences within the institutional conscious efforts that are implemented to achieve an integrational goal. Data were collected from a case study in spring 2019 by interviewing 20 Sub-Saharan students studying at the Moroccan Design and Technology engineering school in Meknes (ENSAM: Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers) and 3 of the school staff members. Using thematic analysis and then interpretative phenomenology as a guiding framework to analyse and present the data, the findings revealed that the study's participants have experienced both their social and academic integrative patterns at the school in the same way. Indeed, three major themes were identified and analysed, namely, Programmes promoted by ENSAM on integration, relationship patterns between Sub-Saharan and Moroccan students and barriers to integration. The study revealed that the various integration efforts carried out by the school do not sufficiently cater for Sub-Saharan students' perspectives on their social and academic integration experiences. Additionally, staff knowledge regarding the integration of these minority groups is not adequately enhanced through pre-service training that covers best practices for successful integration. Language barrier and interaction patterns between Sub-Saharan students with their host ones are also found to influence Sub-Saharan students' social and academic integration. It is suggested that Moroccan Higher education institutions (HEIs) should acknowledge integration as a long and challenging process for Sub-Saharan students, and that an evaluation of integrative practices promoted at the school is needed.

Portfolios versus exams: a study to gauge the better student assessment tool

Portfolio assessment is a method used by teachers to evaluate their students’ academic performance by giving them several assignments and/or projects to work on during the semester. This is one alternative to exams which are an assessment tool seldom questioned for its validity and efficacy. This study seeks to scrutinize both of the mentioned methods of assessment and determine which is more accurate and viable to be adopted in tertiary education. A cohort of sixty 20–22-year-old university students in the College of Engineering at the American University of Sharjah participated in this study. They were required to complete a questionnaire comprising 12 questions concerning the academic, mental health, and professional benefits that students can enjoy as a result of being tested by means of portfolio assessment instead of exams. The research question is as follows: Is portfolio assessment a generally more viable method of evaluating university students’ academic performance than exams in terms of the potential academic, mental health, and professional benefits which such an assessment affords students? Overall, portfolio assessment was found to be a much more appropriate method of assessing university students than exams. The results of the study have implications for university professors, education experts, and examiners.

Rhetorical Construct of the Self: An Exploration of Writings of Teacher Education Students with Delayed College Enrollment

Understanding people’s thinking and actions through exploring their word choice in written discourse can provide an objective analysis of their behavioural patterns in responding to life adversities. This study utilising quantitative and qualitative approaches is an attempt to investigate the coping mechanisms as response to the challenges of pursuing a bachelor’s degree of teacher education students who had postponed their college enrollment after graduating from high school. This investigation revolved around analysing students’ written essays for personality type profiling using M. A. K. Halliday’s Transitivity Theory and exploiting their aspired professional identity employing Lakoff and Johnson’s Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The analysis of students’ written essays dealing with life challenges revealed their dominant actor, carrier and senser-personality types that reinforced their self consciousness enabling them to be reflective and strategic in addressing life challenges. Moreover, the conceptual metaphor “Teachers are Heroes”, as disclosed by the metaphorical constructs of their aspired professional identity, helped them develop motivation, as they realised the significant role which professional teachers play in the society. This self-identification derived from their projected personality types and the motivation they gained from realising their aspired professional identity served as a coping mechanism by stimulating their confidence in dealing with the challenges associated with continuing their college education. To enhance self-awareness and promote self-reflection among teacher education students, this study advocates the integration of the theories of transitivity and metaphor into teacher education curricula for professional identity development.

Research on the Construction of Portrait of Higher Vocational College Students' Groups Based on Clustering Ensemble

The rapid development of higher vocational education necessitates personalized teaching tailored to individual students. This paper presents an ensemble optimized clustering framework to classify higher vocational college students accurately. By integrating multiple clustering algorithms and employing optimization mechanisms, the framework enhances clustering quality. Experiments on real student data show that this method excels in clustering performance and adapts to various feature data types, yielding results aligned with actual situations. This research provides a data foundation for personalized education in higher vocational colleges, promoting educational equity and cultivating skilled talents.

Global addiction university education: a survey of members of International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR)

ABSTRACT Background Quality education is needed for providing quality addiction care. There are addiction university-based programmes worldwide, differing in their characteristics leading to different profiles. The ICUDDR is a global consortium of universities preparing the addiction workforce providing networking and collaboration. The purpose was to categorize the characteristics of the addiction degree programmes, compare them to the first proposed typology of such programmes, and emphasize the meaning of quality in education. Methods The sample consisted of 99 self-selected representatives from 396 current member institutions of ICUDDR. Data were collected using a questionnaire in an online format and analyzed using Microsoft Excel. Results 35 universities operated at least one degree programme in addictions. Of these, five offered bachelor’s, 16 master’s, and five PhD programmes, and 17 universities provided programmes awarding graduate/postgraduate certificate or diploma. The main focuses of specialized programmes included mostly treatment and prevention. Compared to the typology, we identified all types proposed, and two new types appeared. Conclusions The work provides the first comparison of the proposed typology to the reality of the global representation of universities providing addiction studies and emphasizes the importance of quality assurance and collaboration in addiction education.

Depression increases the risk of gallstone: A cross-sectional study and Mendelian randomization analysis

BackgroundGallstone, a common digestive disorder, poses a significant public health burden. Concurrently, depression is acknowledged as a health risk. However, limited information exists on depression's impact on gallstone formation. This study investigates depression's causal effect on gallstone risk. MethodsUsing National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data, we conducted an observational study. The severity of depression was assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Multivariable logistic regression and subgroup analyses explored the correlation between depression and gallstone risk. Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis, leveraging Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) data, reduced observational bias and elucidated causality. Inverse Variance Weighting (IVW) was the primary method, with sensitivity analyses validating results. ResultsIn the observational study (7707 participants), gallstone risk was elevated in mild (OR: 1.58, 95 % CI 1.31–1.90, P < 0.001), moderate (OR: 2.07, 95 % CI 1.59–2.67, P < 0.001), and severe (OR: 2.41, 95 % CI 1.70–3.34, P < 0.001) depression groups (P for trend <0.001). Subgroup analyses revealed a stronger association in those under 65, females, non-Hispanic Black, individuals with obesity, smokers, and those with college education or higher. Mendelian Randomization indicated a causal link between genetically predicted depression and higher cholelithiasis risk (OR: 2.06, 95 % CI 1.34–3.17, P = 0.001), validated through sensitivity analyses and multi-cohort verification. ConclusionDepression independently increases gallstone risk, particularly in those under 65, females, non-Hispanic Black, individuals with obesity, smokers, and those with college education or higher. Further validation is needed through multi-center, prospective cohort studies.

Knowledge, attitude, and perception towards COVID-19 vaccinations among the adults in Rwanda: a cross-sectional study

BackgroundMultiple vaccinations have received approval for the prevention of the coronavirus illness. Nevertheless, the sluggish vaccination rate is mostly attributed to the general population’s limited understanding and unwillingness to accept the use of vaccinations. Thus, it is important to investigate the Rwandan population’s knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions toward COVID-19 vaccines.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted among 370 participants from 11th to 17th February 2023. Demographic information was gathered, and knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of COVID-19 vaccinations were assessed. A binary logistic regression analysis was undertaken to determine the parameters that determine the perception of COVID-19 vaccinations.ResultsThis study included 370 participants. Among them, 85% had good knowledge about COVID-19 vaccines, and 84% had a positive attitude towards them. Additionally, the study had a diverse group, with half of the participants being female and nearly half falling between the ages of 30 and 39. Several key findings emerged through logistic regression analysis. Those aged 30–39 had 1.39 times higher odds of positive perception than 18–28 (OR = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.08–3.24). Participants with a university education were twice as likely to have a positive perception compared to those without an education level (OR = 2.43, 95% CI = 1.30–6.20). Additionally, single individuals were three times more likely to have a positive perception than their married counterparts (OR = 3.39, 95% CI = 1.28–9.09). Vaccinated individuals had twice the odds of positive perception than non-vaccinated individuals (OR = 2.89, 95% CI = 1.01–8.89). Those receiving information from government health institutions were three times more likely to have a positive perception than those who received the information from friends (OR = 3.19, 95% CI = 1.02–12.7). Moreover, employed participants were four times more likely to have a positive perception non-employed individuals (OR = 4.21, 95% CI = 1.48–13.6). Besides, gender and COVID-19 diagnosis did not significantly correlate with positive COVID-19 vaccine perception.ConclusionThe results indicate that the general public in Rwanda has good knowledge, positive attitudes, and a positive perception toward the COVID-19 vaccination, however, some of the participants had some misconceptions towards COVID-19. The findings of this study will be valuable for policymakers and healthcare authorities working to improve vaccination rates.

Quality of Life and Well-Being in Adults With Fontan Physiology: Findings From the Australian and New Zealand Fontan Registry Quality of Life Study.

To characterize global and health-related quality of life (QOL) among adults with Fontan physiology enrolled in the Australian and New Zealand Fontan Registry (ANZFR), and identify sociodemographic, clinical, psychological, and relational factors associated with outcomes. Using a cross-sectional survey design, 66 adults with Fontan physiology (58% women; mean age, 29.6±7.7 years; range, 18-50 years) completed validated self-report measures. Health-related QOL was assessed using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory, and global QOL was assessed using a visual analog scale (0-10). Participants reported lower total health-related QOL (P<0.001), as well as lower physical (P<0.001) and social (P=0.002) functioning compared with normative data. Median global QOL was 7.0 (interquartile range: 5.0-8.0) and most participants (71%) rated their QOL ≥6. For health-related QOL, age, sex, university education, and length of hospital stay in the past 12 months explained 27% of the variance in scores, while general psychological stress, medical traumatic stress, communication problems, and access to emotional support explained a further 44% of variance (final model: 71% of variance explained). For global QOL, sociodemographic and clinical factors explained 20% of the variance in scores, while psychological stress and sense of coherence explained a further 24% (final model: 44% of variance explained). Adults with Fontan physiology reported lower overall health-related QOL compared with community-based norms. Variance in QOL outcomes were predominantly attributable to psychological and relational factors. Tailored screening and assessment to identify Fontan patients at greatest risk of lower QOL, and a proactive approach to supportive care, are needed.

Evaluation of Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Their Association With Coronary Artery Disease in Pakistani Adults.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), especially coronary artery disease (CAD), are a major health burden, and their incidence is rising in countries like Pakistan. The objective of this research was to assess the prevalence and association of cardiovascular risk factors with CAD in Pakistani adults. The research was carried out from January 2023 to December 2023 at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad and Shifa International Hospital Islamabad, Pakistan, using a cross-sectional design. Based on predefined criteria, 320 individuals who were Pakistani nationals and over the age of 18 years old were included. Those having a history of congenital heart disease, pregnancy, significant comorbidities, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were excluded. Medical, lifestyle, and demographic data were collected, and clinical evaluations were carried out by qualified healthcare workers. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and relevant statistical tests. A p<0.05 was statistically significant. The study investigated cardiovascular risk factors and demographic traits in 320 adult Pakistanis. The majority of participants (n=181; 56.56%) were male and aged between 18 and 45. University education was predominant (n=170; 53.13%). Specifically, 147 participants (45.94%) had dyslipidemia, 74 (23.12%) had diabetes mellitus, and 112 (35.0%) had hypertension. Diabetes mellitus (OR: 9.60, 95% CI: 4.52-20.38, p<0.001), dyslipidemia (OR: 1.88, 95% CI: 1.29-2.75, p=0.001), and hypertension (OR: 2.67, 95% CI: 1.72-4.15, p<0.001) showed significant correlations with CAD. Poor socioeconomic status (OR: 3.00, 95% CI: 1.31-6.89, p=0.009) and genetic propensity (OR: 2.00, 95% CI: 1.02-3.92, p=0.040) were also significantly associated with CAD. Our study highlights diabetes as strongly linked to CAD in Pakistani adults, while socioeconomic status emerges as a significant predictor.

Literary reading as a socially responsive practice: Implications for literature pedagogy at higher education

AbstractAs university teachers of literature, we tend to accept the rhetoric that students lack the capacity to interpret texts meaningfully, without questioning our own biases about the kinds of meaning we expect them to elicit from texts. Often, these are meanings that have little relevance to students' own social or professional lives. In this article, we report on a research project on literary reading at a South African university in which we set out to find out how our second‐year English literature student teachers were reading or making sense of Shakespearean plays and how in turn their readings inform new thinking about literary reading. We found that our students were interpreting Shakespeare's Macbeth in ways that both explicate social problems in present‐day South Africa and offer possible solutions to remedying these problems. Therefore, our knowledge contribution in this article is the proposition of socially responsive literary reading as a relevant, empowering and viable approach to literary reading that has potential to decolonise literature education in African universities.

Transtheoretical model to predict the stages of changes in smoking cessation behavior among adolescents.

Previous studies on adolescent smoking cessation behavior based on the transtheoretical model have primarily focused on the development of cessation programs. Attempting to quit smoking is a prerequisite for executing smoking cessation. Appropriate methods must be selected based on the characteristics and intentions of individuals to increase smokers' satisfaction and success rates in quitting. Therefore, this study aimed to identify changing processes influencing the stages of change associated with successful smoking cessation among adolescents and examined the related factors. This descriptive study explored a transtheoretical model of different stages of changes in smoking cessation behavior among adolescent smokers. The participants included 237 middle and high school students in South Korea. We examined the differences in stages of changes in smoking cessation behaviors based on general characteristics, smoking-related characteristics, smoking cessation change processes (cognitive and behavioral), smoking decisional balance (pros and cons of smoking), and self-efficacy. The probability of reaching the preparation stage of smoking cessation was significantly lower among participants who did not know their father's educational level than among those who knew their father's educational level. Conversely, this probability was significantly higher among participants whose mothers had a college or higher education level and those who did not know their mother's educational level than in those whose mothers had a high school or lower education level. These findings indicated that parental education is a significant predictor of the preparation stage of smoking cessation, highlighting the importance of the family environment in facilitating smoking cessation among adolescents. Accordingly, communication and support at home could help reinforce adolescents' determination to quit smoking and make relevant plans. Thus, smoking cessation support should stress the need to enhance communication at home.

Correlates of susceptibility to waterpipe tobacco smoking in young adults.

Many US young adults are susceptible to waterpipe (i.e., hookah) tobacco smoking (WTS) initiation, but research on factors associated with WTS susceptibility is limited. We examined sociodemographic, other tobacco and substance use, and attitudes and perceptions correlates of WTS susceptibility among young adults. Baseline data from a randomized trial testing WTS risk messages was collected in US young adults aged 18 to 30 years who never used waterpipe tobacco but were susceptible to WTS (n = 294). Extent of susceptibility to WTS was defined using the average score of a valid scale with higher scores indicating higher susceptibility. Correlates were sociodemographics, other tobacco and substance use, and attitudes and perceptions. Multiple linear regression models identified correlates of greater WTS susceptibility. Participants averaged 25 (SD 3.2) years of age, 60% were male, 22% were Black non-Hispanic, 47% completed some college education, and 66% were employed. Our models consistently showed that more positive attitudes toward WTS (β = -0.08, p<0.01), lower perceived addictiveness relative to cigarettes (β = -0.09, p = 0.04), and greater perceived social acceptability of WTS (β = 0.05, p<0.01) were positively correlated with WTS susceptibility. Additionally, young adults who smoked cigarillos (β = 0.53, p<0.01), used cannabis (β = 0.14, p = 0.02), and Black non-Hispanic versus White non-Hispanic young adults (β = 0.18, p = 0.03) also had higher WTS susceptibility. Findings suggest that WTS prevention efforts require multicomponent interventions including targeting subpopulations at greater risk based on race/ethnicity and other tobacco and substance use. These interventions should consider attitudes and social acceptability of WTS as modifiable targets to maximize public health benefits.
