OCUPARSE: una propuesta de intervención con personas privadas de libertad basado en la ocupación

The article presents a model of intervention with imprisoned persons from the perspective occupational, developed by the School of Occupational Therapy at the University of Chilein the framework of an agreement with Chilean Gendarmerie. The proposed methodology included the design and implementation phases, the first inquired about the state of the art on the theme, the updating of theoretical and consultation with experts, the outcome of this phase was the development of a module called the speech "OCUPARSE" to be implemented by occupational therapists, psychologists or social workers from professional equipment to the interior of the Gendarmerie de Chile Jails. After the design phase was the implementation phase, which included a review by experts, editing module, applying this to a sample of persons deprived of their liberty and then training for multidisciplinary teams of professionals.

GeneCBR: a translational tool for multiple-microarray analysis and integrative information retrieval for aiding diagnosis in cancer research.

BackgroundBioinformatics and medical informatics are two research fields that serve the needs of different but related communities. Both domains share the common goal of providing new algorithms, methods and technological solutions to biomedical research, and contributing to the treatment and cure of diseases. Although different microarray techniques have been successfully used to investigate useful information for cancer diagnosis at the gene expression level, the true integration of existing methods into day-to-day clinical practice is still a long way off. Within this context, case-based reasoning emerges as a suitable paradigm specially intended for the development of biomedical informatics applications and decision support systems, given the support and collaboration involved in such a translational development. With the goals of removing barriers against multi-disciplinary collaboration and facilitating the dissemination and transfer of knowledge to real practice, case-based reasoning systems have the potential to be applied to translational research mainly because their computational reasoning paradigm is similar to the way clinicians gather, analyze and process information in their own practice of clinical medicine.ResultsIn addressing the issue of bridging the existing gap between biomedical researchers and clinicians who work in the domain of cancer diagnosis, prognosis and treatment, we have developed and made accessible a common interactive framework. Our geneCBR system implements a freely available software tool that allows the use of combined techniques that can be applied to gene selection, clustering, knowledge extraction and prediction for aiding diagnosis in cancer research. For biomedical researches, geneCBR expert mode offers a core workbench for designing and testing new techniques and experiments. For pathologists or oncologists, geneCBR diagnostic mode implements an effective and reliable system that can diagnose cancer subtypes based on the analysis of microarray data using a CBR architecture. For programmers, geneCBR programming mode includes an advanced edition module for run-time modification of previous coded techniques.ConclusiongeneCBR is a new translational tool that can effectively support the integrative work of programmers, biomedical researches and clinicians working together in a common framework. Restoring species-specific posttransfer editing activity to a synthetase with a defunct editing domain

Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are multidomain proteins responsible for the attachment of specific amino acids to their tRNA substrates. Prolyl-tRNA synthetases (ProRSs) are notable due to their particularly diverse architectures through evolution. For example, Saccharomyces cerevisiae ProRS possesses an N-terminal extension with weak homology to a bacterial-specific domain typically present as an insertion (INS) within the aminoacylation active site. The INS domain has been shown to contain a "posttransfer" editing active site responsible for cleaving the aminoacyl-ester bond of misacylated Ala-tRNA(Pro) species. However, wild-type S. cerevisiae ProRS does not perform posttransfer editing in vitro. Here, we show that replacement of the N-terminal domain of S. cerevisiae ProRS with the Escherichia coli INS domain confers posttransfer editing function to this chimeric enzyme, with specificity for yeast Ala-tRNA(Pro). In contrast, the isolated INS domain displays only weak editing activity and lacks tRNA sequence specificity. These results emphasize the modular nature of synthetase editing active sites and demonstrate how in evolution, a weak editing activity can be converted to a more robust state through fusion to the body of a synthetase. In this manner, a single editing module can be distributed to different synthetases, and simultaneously acquire specificity and enhanced activity.

A formal modeling platform for composing web services

Building a robust service composition is increasingly problematic as large scales of Web service operations can now be possibly achieved through the Internet. This article proposes an effective composing platform based on a formal modeling language. In particular, Petri Nets patterns are developed for enhancing service composition modeling, workflow quality measurement and scripting productivity. By providing a visual editing module, this platform allows business application developers to exploit its composing capabilities without much requiring design time or skills.

Post-transfer editing mechanism of a D-aminoacyl-tRNA deacylase-like domain in threonyl-tRNA synthetase from archaea

To ensure a high fidelity during translation, threonyl-tRNA synthetases (ThrRSs) harbor an editing domain that removes noncognate L-serine attached to tRNAThr. Most archaeal ThrRSs possess a unique editing domain structurally similar to D-aminoacyl-tRNA deacylases (DTDs) found in eubacteria and eukaryotes that specifically removes D-amino acids attached to tRNA. Here, we provide mechanistic insights into the removal of noncognate L-serine from tRNAThr by a DTD-like editing module from Pyrococcus abyssi ThrRS (Pab-NTD). High-resolution crystal structures of Pab-NTD with pre- and post-transfer substrate analogs and with L-serine show mutually nonoverlapping binding sites for the seryl moiety. Although the pre-transfer editing is excluded, the analysis reveals the importance of main chain atoms in proper positioning of the post-transfer substrate for its hydrolysis. A single residue has been shown to play a pivotal role in the inversion of enantioselectivity both in Pab-NTD and DTD. The study identifies an enantioselectivity checkpoint that filters opposite chiral molecules and thus provides a fascinating example of how nature has subtly engineered this domain for the selection of chiral molecules during translation.

Recognition and Treatment of Depression and Anxiety in Patients With Acute Myocardial Infarction

The objective of this study was to determine the ability of providers (medical residents and nurse practitioners) on inpatient cardiac units to recognize and appropriately treat patients with clinically significant depression and anxiety among a cohort admitted with acute myocardial infarction. Patients within 72 hours of acute myocardial infarction underwent screening with the Standardized Clinical Instrument for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition module for major depressive disorder (MDD), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). In addition, the study psychiatrist and a treatment team clinician independently assessed whether they believed that patients had clinically significant depression or anxiety. Prescription of antidepressants and benzodiazepines during hospitalization was recorded by chart review. Assessments were completed for 74 patients. Providers identified < 15% of patients with current MDD or with a BDI score > or = 10; 11% of patients with current MDD had appropriate treatment with antidepressants. There was no significant correlation of providers' assessment of depression with current MDD, BDI scores, or psychiatrists' clinical assessment of depression. In contrast, providers identified 31% of patients with a BAI score > or = 10 and 50% of patients who were assessed by psychiatrists as anxious; > 80% of patients with high anxiety received benzodiazepines. Providers' assessments of anxiety were significantly correlated with BAI scores and with psychiatrists' clinical assessments. In conclusion, medical residents and nurse practitioners routinely under-recognize and undertreat depression among patients with acute myocardial infarction on inpatient cardiac units. Recognition and treatment of anxiety is substantially better, up to 50% of patients who are found to be anxious by psychiatrists after acute myocardial infarction remain unrecognized.

Cys-tRNAPro Editing by Haemophilus influenzae YbaK via a Novel Synthetase·YbaK·tRNA Ternary Complex

Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are multidomain enzymes that often possess two activities to ensure translational accuracy. A synthetic active site catalyzes tRNA aminoacylation, while an editing active site hydrolyzes mischarged tRNAs. Prolyl-tRNA synthetases (ProRS) have been shown to misacylate Cys onto tRNA(Pro), but lack a Cys-specific editing function. The synthetase-like Haemophilus influenzae YbaK protein was recently shown to hydrolyze misacylated Cys-tRNA(Pro) in trans. However, the mechanism of specific substrate selection by this single domain hydrolase is unknown. Here, we demonstrate that YbaK alone appears to lack specific tRNA recognition capabilities. Moreover, YbaK cannot compete for aminoacyl-tRNAs in the presence of elongation factor Tu, suggesting that YbaK acts before release of the aminoacyl-tRNA from the synthetase. In support of this idea, cross-linking studies reveal the formation of binary (ProRS.YbaK) and ternary (ProRS.YbaK.tRNA) complexes. The binding constants for the interaction between ProRS and YbaK are 550 nM and 45 nM in the absence and presence of tRNA(Pro), respectively. These results suggest that the specificity of trans-editing by YbaK is ensured through formation of a novel ProRS.YbaK.tRNA complex.

Knowledge editing and maintenance tools for a semantic portal in oncology

The research work presented in this paper is about the design of a knowledge system architecture applied to oncology and relying on the semantic Web principles. The core of this architecture is a working knowledge system, called K asimir, using an object-based representation formalism and classification-based reasoning. The ontology editor P rotégé is connected with the K asimir system, and is adapted to the particular requirements of K asimir. The P rotégé system enables the integration of several editing and visualization modules. A first knowledge editing module relies on classification-based reasoning for detecting mismatches and redundancies in the edited knowledge hierarchy. A second knowledge editing module also uses classification-based reasoning for comparing two versions of the knowledge base for maintenance purposes. This last module is particularly useful for extracting and analysing the changes occurred during an editing session. Three modules are combined to visualize hierarchies, based on three different techniques having complementary advantages. All these modules—including K asimir and P rotégé—are integrated in a semantic portal architecture based on semantic Web principles. The proposed architecture takes advantage of the semantic Web technologies for integrating the different modules, and for providing a reusable environment for distributed knowledge management in oncology.

ANSI standards: creating a local, searchable database

PurposeTo review the history behind and steps taken to inventory and build search/edit modules for a database containing the Iowa State University Library's extensive collection of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards. Design/methodology/approach – Iowa State University built a database inventory of the ANSI collection of standards through the use of Microsoft Excel and Oracle production software. The collection was inventoried and input into an Excel database, then converted into a web‐based search engine using Oracle software. Edit modules were developed to allow for adding to the database, and updating and correcting existing records.FindingsWith the addition of this search engine and edit module, the task of keeping records up to date and keeping patrons informed as to the availability of standards within the ISU collection has been greatly improved.Practical implicationsThe implications for this form of database suggest it could be introduced into other major research libraries with large collections of uncatalogued literature utilizing similar software and expertise. This was a local concern that could have a broad impact on the way ANSI standards are inventoried and searched in libraries.Originality/valueThe library that possesses a large collection of work under a single call number that is not inventoried and is looking for solutions for improved patron access will find this information valuable.

A Prototype Temporal GIS for Multiple Spatio-Temporal Representations

Development of a temporal geographic information system (GIS) and spatio-temporal data modeling are key to incorporating time into geographic information science. This paper describes how to design and develop temporal GIS that will work with spatio-temporal data represented in various data models, and it introduces a prototype temporal GIS with a case study. In temporal GIS, the integration of multiple spatio-temporal representations is based on common spatial and temporal reference systems. In other words, a map window of temporal GIS visualizes spatio-temporal data valid at the same time within one spatial area. To achieve such visualization, separate data editing and query modules are required for each spatio-temporal data model (STDM). In the temporal query interface, after a user specifies a time, the system automatically hires correspondent modules to retrieve spatio-temporal data valid at that time. Besides temporal queries common to all STDMs, each module may provide additional temporal query capabilities specific to that STDM. In the case study, I implement a prototype temporal GIS for three STDMs. The examples of query and visualization, which use three datasets (census data, land use/land cover, and elevation data) demonstrate the prototype temporal GIS can integrate multiple temporal representations.

Cloning, expression, purification, crystallization and preliminary X-ray crystallographic investigations of a unique editing domain from archaebacteria.

Threonyl-tRNA synthetase (ThrRS) faces a crucial double-discrimination problem during the translation of genetic code. Most ThrRSs from the archaeal kingdom possess a unique editing domain that differs from those of eubacteria and eukaryotes. In order to understand the structural basis of the editing mechanism in archaea, the editing module of ThrRS from Pyrococcus abyssi comprising of the first 183 amino-acid residues was cloned, expressed, purified and crystallized. The crystals belong to the trigonal space group P3(1(2))21, with one molecule in the asymmetric unit.

A freestanding proofreading domain is required for protein synthesis quality control in Archaea.

Threonyl-tRNA synthetase (ThrRS) participates in protein synthesis quality control by selectively editing the misacylated species Ser-tRNA(Thr). In bacteria and eukaryotes the editing function of ThrRS resides in a highly conserved N-terminal domain distant from the active site. Most archaeal ThrRS proteins are devoid of this editing domain, suggesting evolutionary divergence of quality-control mechanisms. Here we show that archaeal editing of Ser-tRNAThr is catalyzed by a domain unrelated to, and absent from, bacterial and eukaryotic ThrRSs. Despite the lack of sequence homology, the archaeal and bacterial editing domains are both reliant on a pair of essential histidine residues suggestive of a common catalytic mechanism. Whereas the archaeal editing module is most commonly part of full-length ThrRS, several crenarchaeal species contain individual genes encoding the catalytic (ThrRS-cat) and editing domains (ThrRS-ed). Sulfolobus solfataricus ThrRS-cat was shown to synthesize both Thr-tRNAThr and Ser-tRNAThr and to lack editing activity against Ser-tRNAThr. In contrast, ThrRS-ed lacks aminoacylation activity but can act as an autonomous protein in trans to hydrolyze specifically Ser-tRNAThr, or it can be fused to ThrRS-cat to provide the same function in cis. Deletion analyses indicate that ThrRS-ed is dispensable for growth of S. solfataricus under standard conditions but is required for normal growth in media with elevated serine levels. The growth phenotype of the ThrRS-ed deletion strain suggests that retention of the discontinuous ThrRS quaternary structure relates to specific physiological requirements still evident in certain Archaea.

System and method of creating digital recordings of live performances

In one embodiment, the present invention provides an event recording system that has an event-capture module, an editing module, and a media recording module. The event-capture module captures an event signal, such as an audio signal from a sound event, and transforms the signal into a primary event file that is accessible as it is being formed. The editing module is communicatively connected to the event capture module. It accesses and parses the primary event file into one or more digital track files that can be recorded onto a recording media. Likewise, the media recording module is communicatively linked to the editing module for receiving the one or more digital track files from the editing module. The media recording module has a plurality of media recorders for simultaneously recording the one or more digital track files onto a plurality of recording media. This allows a plurality of recording media, with the entire event recorded upon each media, to be available shortly after the event has ended.

Proofreading with text to speech feedback

A computer implemented system and method of proofreading text in a computer system includes receiving text from a user into a text editing module. At least a portion of the text is converted to an audio signal upon the detection of an indicator, the indicator defining a boundary in the text by either being embodied therein or comprising delays in receiving text. The audio signal is played through a speaker to the user to provide feedback.

The architecture of TrueViz: a groundTRUth/metadata editing and VIsualiZing ToolKit

Tools for visualizing and creating groundtruth and metadata are crucial for document image analysis research. In this paper we describe TrueViz (TRUEVIZ User's Manual, August 2000; Proceedings of the SPIE Conference on Document Recognition and Retrieval, San Jose, CA, 2001, pp. 1–12), which is a tool for visualizing and editing groundtruth/metadata. We first describe the groundtruthing task and the requirements for any interactive groundtruthing tool. Next we describe the system design of TrueViz and discuss how a user can use it to create groundtruth. TrueViz is implemented in the Java programming language and works on various platforms including Windows and Unix. TrueViz reads and stores groundtruth/metadata in XML format, and reads a corresponding image stored in TIFF image file format. Multilingual text editing, display, and search modules based on the Unicode representation for text are also provided. This software is being made available free of charge to researchers.

GIS를 이용한 홍수위험지도 관리시스템 프로토타입 개발에 관한 연구

국토개발에 따른 자연 재해가 많아지고 있으며, 특히 홍수에 의한 피해가 나날이 증대되고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 국민의 안전과 복리를 증진하고 홍수에 의한 피해를 최소화할 수 있는 방안의 대책이 시급하다. 선진국에서는 홍수관리 및 효율적인 재난관리를 위하여 홍수위험지도를 제작 배포하여 홍수에 대한 지역 주민의 경각심을 고취하고, 홍수재난 관리 등에 널리 활용하고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구의 목적은 수문 모형과 입력 데이터의 연계를 바탕으로 홍수침수범위의 예측과 함께 결과물의 도식를 위한 홍수위험지도 관리시스템 프로토타입의 개발에 있다. 효율적인 시스템 개발을 위하여 사용자 요구분석을 통하여 종이지도형태의 홍수위험지도 및 관리시스템을 설계하였다. 본 연구와 병행으로 진행된 하천정보표준화 연구치 결과를 바탕으로 GIS 데이터베이스를 설계하였으며, 연구 대상 지역의 GIS 데이터베이스구축을 통하여 수리 수문 모델링을 위한 효율적인 지형정보의 구축방안을 제시하였다. 개발된 홍수위험지도 관리시스템은 하천정보 검색 모듈, 수리 수문 모델링 지원 모듈, 홍수위험지도 출력 모듈로 구성되었다. 각 모듈은 GIS 데이터베이스를 이용하여 도형 및 속성의 검색, 수리 수문 모델링의 분석 및 결과의 도식화 등을 지원할 수 있도록 개발되었다. The damages from the natural disasters, especially from the floods, have been increasing. Therefore, it is imperative to establish a BMP to diminish the damages from the floods and to enhance the welfare of the nation. Developed countries have been generating and utilizing flood risk maps to raise the alertness of the residents, and thereby achieving efficient flood management. The major objectives of this research were to develop a prototype management system for flood risk map to forecast the boundaries oi the inundation and to plot them through the integration of geographic and hydrologic database. For more efficient system development, the user requirement analysis was made. The GIS database design was done based on the results from the research work of river information standardization. A GIS database for the study area was built by using topographic information to support the hydrologic modeling. The developed prototype include several modules; river information edition module, map plotting module, and hydrologic modeling support module. Each module enabled the user to edit graphic and attribute data, to analyze and to represent the modeling results visually. Subjects such as utilization of the system and suggestions for future development were discussed.

기어설계 자동화 시스템에 관한 연구

A computer aided expert system for spur, helical, bevel and worm gears was newly developed by using AutoCAD system and its AutoLISP computer language in the present study. Two methods are available for a designer to draw a gear. The first method needs the gear design parameters such as pressure, module, number of tooth, shaft angle, velocity, materials, etc. When the gear design parameters are inputted, a gear is drawn in AutoCAD system and maximum allowable power and shaft diameter are calculated additionally. The second method calculates all dimensions and gear design parameters to draw a gear when the information such as transmission, reduction ratio, rpm, materials and pressure are inputted. The system includes four programs. Each program is composed of a data input module, a database module, a strength calculation module, a drawing module, a text module and a drawing edit module. In conclusion, the CAD system would be widely used in companies to tind the geometric data and manufacturing course.

DSISoft—a MATLAB VSP data processing package

DSISoft is a public domain vertical seismic profile processing software package developed at the Geological Survey of Canada. DSISoft runs under MATLAB version 5.0 and above and hence is portable between computer operating systems supported by MATLAB (i.e. Unix, Windows, Macintosh, Linux). The package includes processing modules for reading and writing various standard seismic data formats, performing data editing, sorting, filtering, and other basic processing modules. The processing sequence can be scripted allowing batch processing and easy documentation. A structured format has been developed to ensure future additions to the package are compatible with existing modules. Interactive modules have been created using MATLAB's graphical user interface builder for displaying seismic data, picking first break times, examining frequency spectra, doing f– k filtering, and plotting the trace header information. DSISoft modular design facilitates the incorporation of new processing algorithms as they are developed. This paper gives an overview of the scope of the software and serves as a guide for the addition of new modules.

An integrated database and expert system for failure mechanism identification: Part II—the system and performance testing

An integrated database and expert system has been developed for assisting the human analyst in identifying the failure mechanism of mechanical components. The system comprises six major modules: database and management system; case maintenance; knowledge acquisition and editing; expert system; explanation and test-recommendation facilities, and user interface. The knowledge acquisition and editing module has been detailed in Part I of a two-part paper (Liao TW, Zhan Z-H, Mount CR. Engineering Failure Analysis 1999;6:407–21). The overall system and the details of other modules are described here. The system has been implemented using the M4 expert system shell, Microsoft Access database software, and Visual Basic. Illustrative examples are used to show the capability of the system. Also reported are the results obtained from four different tests to determine the system performance.

An integrated database and expert system for failure mechanism identification: Part I—automated knowledge acquisition

An integrated database and expert system has been developed for identifying the failure mechanism of mechanical components. The system comprises six major modules: database and management system, case maintenance; knowledge acquisition and editing; expert system; explanation and test-recommendation facilities; and user interface. Part I of a two-part paper details the knowledge acquisition and editing module, as presented here. Part II describes the remaining modules and also gives test results (Liao TW, Zhan Z-H, Mount CR. Engineering Failure Analysis 1999;6:387–406). The method used for automated knowledge acquisition is an inductive learning algorithm, which was modified from PRISM (Cendrowska J. Int J. Man–Machine Studies 1987;27:349–70) to handle noisy and missing data. Using the algorithm, a total of 48 rules were induced from 477 training examples gathered for the identification of 15 different failure mechanisms such as brittle fracture, fatigue, and stress corrosion cracking. Fifty-nine attributes were used to distinguish one failure mechanism from the others. They include pitted, beach marks, microvoids, etc. The knowledge editing function is provided to allow the verification of induced rules by the human expert.
