Hidradenoma papilliferum is a rare, benign adnexal tumor considered to be of apocrine origin that occurs almost exclusively in females on the anogenital area. Ectopic or non- anogenital hidradenoma papilliferum is rare. But ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum associated with pilomatricoma has not been described in literature to our knowledge. We describe a case of hidradenoma papilliferum associated with pilomatricoma presenting with an intradermal nodule, 1cm in diameter on the right side of the back of the neck with history of 15 years duration. This case is reported because of its rarity.

Ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum with apocrine differentiation: A case report and review of the literature

Hidradenoma papilliferum (HP) is a benign neoplasm involving anogenital mammary-like glands and occurs most commonly in the vulva or perianal region of adult white women. It is histopathologically similar to intraductal papilloma of the breast. The lesions are usually solitary, well-demarcated papules or nodules covered with normal skin and are generally less than 10 mm in diameter. The prognosis for HP is good. When these tumors are not located in the anogenital area, they are termed ectopic HP. We present a case of ectopic hidradenoma that presented as a mass on the right arm of a 65-year-old female. To the best of our knowledge, only a single case of ectopic HP has previously been reported on the arm.

Hidradenoma Papilliferum Presenting as an Eyelid Mass

Hidradenoma papilliferum is a benign adnexal tumor originating from apocrine glands of skin. It is commonly seen in the anogenital region of middle-aged women and presents as an asymptomatic, slow-growing, solitary nodule. Rarely this tumor occurs at extragenital sites and is called ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum. Although head and neck is a common site for this group, only 3 cases in the upper eyelid have been described. We present the first case of ectopic hidradenoma papilleferum presenting as a cystic swelling in the lower eyelid. A brief review of literature is included.

A giant ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum in a Niger delta region of Nigeria

Hidradenoma papilliferum is a known example of adnexal skin tumours with apocrine differentiation. It is a rare benign tumour which tends to arise from areas with rich concentration of aporine glands such as anogenital region, vulval, perineal, axillae, and periumbilical areas. In this report, the tumour was found in the upper outer quadrant of left breast, being one of the ectopic sites for this tumour. Contrary to most reports where male preponderance was popular for ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum, the patient in this report is a 71-year-old female. Considering the location of this tumour in this report, the likely histopathological differential diagnoses such as tubular apocrine adenoma, clear cell (apocrine) adenoma, lipoma, intraductal papilloma and papillary carcinoma of the breast should be considered for exclusion. This is the first reported case of a giant ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum of the breast in a Niger Delta region of Nigeria which also highlights the role of fine needle aspiration and cytology in the diagnosis of breast lesions.

Ectopic Hidradenoma Papilliferum of the Breast: Ultrasound Finding

Hidradenoma papilliferum (HP) is a benign neoplasm arising from mammary-like glands which typically involves the dermal layer of the female anogenital area. The prognosis for HP is good. Recurrence is unusual and is typically attributed to incomplete excision of the primary tumor. Malignant transformation is rare and HP of the breast has not yet been reported. Ectopic HP is usually solitary, small, and asymptomatic. It appears as a well-circumscribed, complex cystic mass in the dermis on ultrasound. We present a case of HP arising from the axillary tail of the breast.

Hidradenoma Papilliferum Occurring on the Nasal Skin

Hidradenoma papilliferum is a rare benign neoplasm that usually occurs in the female anogenital area. We present a 43-year-old female with a non-anogenital (ectopic) hidradenoma papilliferum on her nose. The patient had had a skin-colored subcutaneous nodule on her nose for 7 years. The histopathological findings showed variously shaped cystic spaces in the tumor. And the lumina were surrounded by a single or double layer of cell which showed decapitation secretion. In the English dermatological literature, only one case of ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum arising in nasal skin has been reported. Hence we suggest hidradenoma papilliferum occurring on the nasal skin is a peculiar and interesting event.

Ectopic Hidradenoma Papilliferum

Hidradenoma papilliferum is a rare tumor that occurs almost exclusively in females on the anogenital area. Rare cases of ectopic (nongenital) hidradenoma papilliferum have been described. The lesions usually present as an asymptomatic slow-growing, red, firm, mobile, well-delimitated nodule that grows for a long time before resection. We describe a case of an 26-year-old man that presented with an enlarging nodule on his right eyelid. The histological findings revealed a hidradenoma papilliferum. So far, among the very few reports of ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum, only a very small number were localized to the eyelid.

Two Cases of Hidradenoma Papilliferum of the Nose

The lesions are usually solitary, well-demarcated papules or nodules covered with normal skin, and are generally less than 10 mm in diameter (1). This tumour is frequently asymptomatic, though may be associated with a pruritic, burning sensation or pain. Hidradenoma papilliferum usually occurs in a vulval, perineal or perianal location. When these tumours are not located in the anogenital area, they are termed ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum (2). We report here two cases of ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum of the nose.

Periocular hidradenoma papilliferum

Hidradenoma is a benign adnexal neoplasm originating from the apocrine sweat gland, and is almost exclusively detectable in the skin of the anogenital area of middle-aged white females after puberty. Ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum, which involves the skin away from the anogenital region, is exceedingly rare, and can also affect males. We report a female patient with a lesion (dating back to childhood) close to the medial end of the left eyebrow and overriding the anterior medial part of superior orbital rim. The lesion was completely excised and had not reoccurred during over four years of follow-up.

Ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum: A case report and review of the literature

Hidradenoma papilliferum is a benign, cystic, papillary tumor that occurs almost exclusively in women on the skin of the anogenital region. Nonanogenital (ectopic) hidradenoma papilliferum are rare. We describe a 72-year-old white man with an enlarging nodule in the region of the right triceps muscle; microscopic examination showed a hidradenoma papilliferum. The median age of patients with ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum is between 1 to 2 decades older than the average age range of lesion onset in patients with anogenital hidradenoma papilliferum. In contrast to anogenital hidradenoma papilliferum, nearly one half of the patients with ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum are men. Ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum occurs most frequently (60%) in the head and neck region. Eighty-five percent of cases are 1.5 cm in the greatest diameter or smaller. The race, clinical features, pathologic features, treatment, and prognosis for hidradenoma papilliferum occurring in anogenital and ectopic locations are similar. (J Am Acad Dermatol 1999;41:115-8.)
