Examination of Athletic Identity and Perceived Stress Levels of Candidates Taking the Exams for the Faculty of Sports Sciences

The aims of this study is to put forth the Athlete Identity and Perceived Stress Levels of Candidates Taking the Exams for the Faculty of Sports Sciences. 473 people who applied for the 2023 Ahi Evran University Faculty of Sports Sciences special talent exam were included in the research. A personal information form, a ten-item "Athlete Identity Scale" and a 4-item "Perceived Stress Scale" was used as data collection tools in the report. Circulation , density , t test, anova test and simple correlation analysis was performed to compare the relevant throughput . As a result of statistical findings, while the athlete identity scores of the participants did not differ according to gender, age and economic status variables, they differed according to the variables of undergraduate and professional hope. It was observed that the perceived stress point of the contributor did not differ in terms of all variables. Additionally, it was determined that the participants' athlete identity and perceived stress scores had a low-level negative and significant relationship.

Visible minority status and occupation were associated with increased COVID-19 infection in Greater Vancouver British Columbia between June and November 2020: an ecological study.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted health disparities, especially among specific population groups. This study examines the spatial relationship between the proportion of visible minorities (VM), occupation types and COVID-19 infection in the Greater Vancouver region of British Columbia, Canada. Provincial COVID-19 case data between June 24, 2020, and November 7, 2020, were aggregated by census dissemination area and linked with sociodemographic data from the Canadian 2016 census. Bayesian spatial Poisson regression models were used to examine the association between proportion of visible minorities, occupation types and COVID-19 infection. Models were adjusted for COVID-19 testing rates and other sociodemographic factors. Relative risk (RR) and 95% Credible Intervals (95% CrI) were calculated. We found an inverse relationship between the proportion of the Chinese population and risk of COVID-19 infection (RR = 0.98 95% CrI = 0.96, 0.99), whereas an increased risk was observed for the proportions of the South Asian group (RR = 1.10, 95% CrI = 1.08, 1.12), and Other Visible Minority group (RR = 1.06, 95% CrI = 1.04, 1.08). Similarly, a higher proportion of frontline workers (RR = 1.05, 95% CrI = 1.04, 1.07) was associated with higher infection risk compared to non-frontline. Despite adjustments for testing, housing, occupation, and other social economic status variables, there is still a substantial association between the proportion of visible minorities, occupation types, and the risk of acquiring COVID-19 infection in British Columbia. This ecological analysis highlights the existing disparities in the burden of diseases among different visible minority populations and occupation types.

The effect of psychological distresses caused by COVID19 in healthcare professionals on happiness.

COVID-19 has been negatively affecting the world for a long time. This situation can trigger mental problems such as uncertainty, anxiety, stress and depression throughout the society. The aim of our study was to search the effect of the psychological distresses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare workers (HCWs) on happiness. This study was conducted as a descriptive and cross-sectional study in a medical school hospital in Isparta-Turkey and the data for it were collected between January and March 2022. Sociodemographic form, Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS), Covid-19 Related Psychological Distress Scale (CORPD) and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire Short Form (OHQ-SF) were used for the data collection. A total of 326 people, including 62(19%) physicians, 127(39%) nurses, 39(12%) officers and 98(30%) others, participated in the study. Between OHQ-SF and CAS, it was found to be r2=0.008, f=2.76 and p=0.098. Between OHQ-SF and CORPD, it was found to be r2=0.11, f=3.55 and p=0.06. In the HCWs, it was found that CORPD was related with the variables of gender and get vaccinated, CAS was related with the variables of economic status, profession and get COVID-19, and OHQ-SF was related with economic and marital status. It was found that anxiety and psychological distress did not affect the level of happiness. It is recommended to follow up the negative effects of the pandemic, such as anxiety, fear on the future lives, professional functions, and family life of the HCW.

Health, Psychology and Economic Status: Impact of Early Marriage

BACKGROUND: Early marriage is a global problem that harms teenagers. The occurrence of early marriage in rural areas is a common practice. AIM: This study aims to determine the impact of early marriage on aspects of health, psychology, and economic status comprehensively based on the causes of early marriage in rural area. METHODS: This study used a cross-sectional study design. The sampling unit of this study was early marriage families from three sub-districts in the Ponorogo district, namely Sawoo, Ngrayun, and Pulung. The number of samples used as many as 75 families. The variables in this study consisted of health, husband’s psychology, wife’s psychology, and economic status. The statistical test used polychoric Principle Component Analysis (PCA) analysis to obtain health, psychological and economic status variables derived from several indicators. RESULTS: The results of this study indicate that in the healthcare variable, it appears that most of the respondents do not experience bleeding, do not have abdominal pain, and do not hurt on contact. Based on the emotion variable, the wife is more emotional than the husband. The results of polychoric PCA are based on scores that are divided into two categories. The results of the polychoric PCA analysis show that most of the early married couples have worse health and economic conditions, namely, 55% and 65%, respectively. Meanwhile, in the psychological condition of husband and wife, most of them have good conditions, namely, 75% and 83%. CONCLUSION: The impact of early marriage which shows poor results is on the health and economic aspects.

The Impact of Parental Economic Support and Housing Market on Young People’s Independence

This paper examines the impact of parental economic support and housing market on young people’s independence. Based on Youth Panel Survey data in 2015~2019, various panel models were estimated to understand young people’s independence. In empirical studies, it is important to account for the unobserved characteristics. The endogeneity problems may arise if the unobserved characteristics are not considered. Thus, this study apply a correlated random effect model(CRE) to deal with the endogeneity issue. The findings reveal that, with no consideration for endogeneity, most explanatory variables affect the independence of the young people. However, when applying the correlated radon effect model, the estimation results indicate that parental economic support and housing market such as the rate of change in housing price and chonsei price and the ratio of gift transaction are more likey to be the significant determinant, although young people’s economic status variables like income and debt are not statistically significant.

THE INFLUENCE OF PARENT’S ECONOMIC STATUS, THE NEED FOR ACHIEVEMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION ON INTEREST IN THE FACULTY OF ECONOMICS BAITURRAHMAH PADANG ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Baiturrahmah Padang University was established in 1994 as a forum for three high schools that had been established previously, namely the faculty of economics (1985), the faculty of dentistry (1985), the faculty of medicine (1993), then in 1999 another faculty was opened, the faculty of public health. The University of Baiturrahmah has an address on Jl.raya by pass km.15 aie Pacah, Koto Central, Padang, West Sumatra. This type of research is a quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were all students of the faculty of economics 2015-2017 as many as 375 people and a sample of 100 people. The data used are primary data and data analysis used is multiple linear regression analysis. The results found a regression coefficient of economic status variables of parents with a value of t count 2.256 and the value (sig = 0.026 0.05), then the variable need for achievement has no effect on the interest of students of the economics faculty of Baiturrahmah Padang entrepreneurship. The regression coefficient of the entrepreneurship education variable with a t value of 2.309 and the value (sig = 0.023 2.70 or (Fcount> Ftable) with a significance value of 0.038 <0.05. This means that the economic status of parents, the need for achievement, entrepreneurship education together affect the interest of students of the economics faculty of Baiturrahmah Padang entrepreneurship.

Economic Status of Community Interest in Membership of BPJS Health in Duampanua District, Pinrang Regency

BACKGROUND: Starting from 2017 until 2019, the number of patient visiting public health centers Lampa is always more than the number of patient visits BPJS, it indicates that the public interest in District Duampanua, Pinrang Regency on BPJS Health membership is still lacking.&#x0D; AIM: This study aimed to determine the effect of economic status on community interest in BPJS health membership.&#x0D; METOHDS: This study used a quantitative research with cross-sectional study approach. The location of this research was in the District Duampanua, Pinrang Regency. The population in this study is the community in Duampanua District Pinrang Regency with 51.593 people. The sampling technique in this study used a purposive sampling technique with 100 sample size. Data analysis performed was univariate and bivariate with Chi-square test.&#x0D; RESULTS: The results showed that there are influence of economic status variables (p = 0.016) to community interest in BPJS Health membership in Duampanua District, Pinrang Regency. The conclusion of this study is that there is an influence of economic status on community interest in BPJS Health membership because the higher the economic status of the community, the higher their interest in BPJS Health membership.&#x0D; CONCLUSION: It is expected that stakeholders in each village in the Duampanua District can find out the income of the community by conducting data collection evenly as proof of their worthiness of being members of JKN-KIS participants.

Türkiye’de Obezitenin Sosyoekonomik Belirleyicileri

Bu çalışmada, Vücut Kitle İndeksi (VKİ) yardımıyla belirlenen bireyin aşırı kilo veya obezete durumunu etkileyebilecek sosyoekonomik faktörlerin genelleştirilmiş sıralı logit (gologit) metodolojisi uygulanarak Türkiye için araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Analizde, Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu (TÜİK) tarafından oluşturulan 2014 ve 2016 yıllarına ait Türkiye Sağlık Araştırması (TSA) veri setlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Gologit sonuçları, kadınların erkeklere, evlilerin ise bekarlara oranla obez olma risklerinin 2 kat daha fazla olduğunu göstermektedir. Aşırı kilo ve obeziteye yakalanma olasılıkları ile bireyin eğitim seviyesi ve fiziksel aktivite durumu arasında güçlü negatif ilişki bulunmuştur. Özellikle haftalık en az 10 dakikalık yürüyüş yapılan gün sayısı arttıkça bireylerin üçüncü sınıf obeziteye yakalanma ihtimali yarı yarıya azaltmaktadır. Bireylere ait ekonomik durum değişkenlerinden olan hane geliri arttıkça kişilerin aşırı kilolu veya obez olma ihtimalleri de artmaktadır. Gelişmiş ülke deneyimlerinin aksine gelişmekte olan ülkeler ve Türkiye özelinde yapılan çalışmalara paralel olarak, kişinin gelir seviyesi arttıkça toplam enerji ve toplam yağ alımının artacağı bu nedenle aşırı kilo ve obezite riskinin artacağı tahmin edilmiştir.

Determination of the Objectives of Motivation to Nature Training with Natural Sports Class

The purpose of the present study was to determine the motivating reasons of the students studying at the Department of Physical Education and Sports in Bingol University in the year 2017 in nature sports classes and in participating trekking. The questionnaire that was used in the study was applied to a total of 87 people 30 of whom were male and 57 were female who were selected with random sampling method among 260 students in 2017-2018 Academic Year in Bingol. After the literature review for the scale to be used in the study, it was decided that the Participation in Hiking Motivation Scale (PHMS), whose validity and reliability study was conducted by Ekinci, E. in 2012, was used. To analyze the data obtained, the SSPS 22.0 Statistical Package Program was used and the data were classified. The frequency and percentage distributions were carried out with Anova and t-test. According to the results of the t-test analysis made for the data obtained from the students of Bingol University Physical Education and Sports School, no significant differences were detected between the students in the 5 dimensions that motivated the participation of the students from teaching, training and management departments of the Bingol University, Physical Education and Sports High School to nature sports classes and trekking activities in terms of gender. No significant differences were found between the environment where the students grew up and economic status variables (p>0.05). As a result, it was determined that there were no significant differences between the social, time, education, observation and health sub-dimensions in motivating the participation of the students of the Physical Education and Sports High School of Bingol University; it is possible to argue that social, time, education, observation and health sub-dimensions are not an important factor in motivating the participation the students to nature classes and nature sports. Applicable trainings may be included more in curricula to raise awareness on nature sports and on the environment with recreation education system and discipline to motivate students to participate in nature classes.

Central obesity is an independent risk factor of poor glycaemic control at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital

Background: Results of previous studies on the effect on glycaemic control of anthropometric measures of obesity, some economic status variables and the presence of metabolic syndrome are not consistent and appear to differ among health institutions. The status of glycaemic control and some of its determinants was investigated among adult black patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital (DGMAH).Method: A random sample of 176 adult black South African patients with T2DM attending the diabetic clinic at DGMAH was investigated in the current study. Fasting blood glucose, glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), lipid profile components levels as well as anthropometric measures of obesity were measured using standard measuring procedures for these variables. The presence of metabolic syndrome was assessed according to the International Diabetic Federation criteria. Information related to patients’ socioeconomic status was collected by means of a structured questionnaire. Associations between these factors and poor glycaemic control were assessed by means of binary and multivariate logistic analysis.Results: Glycaemic control was found to be very poor at DGMAH. As low as 16.6% of the study subjects achieved SEMDSA’s 2012 recommended target HbA1c value of less than 7.0%. Whereas binary logistic analysis revealed that marital status, matriculation, increase waist circumference and duration of diabetes 5 years may lead to poor glycaemic control, multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that only increased waist circumference was independently associated with poor glycaemic control at DGMAH.Conclusions: Central obesity appears to be an independent risk factor for poor glycaemic control among T2DM patients at DGMAH.

The Analysis of Open Defecation Behaviour After Implementing the Tringger of Pillar 1 in Society Based Total Sanitation at Tulungagung Regency

Open defecation behavior is still practiced by some people who have obtained trigger pillar 1 society based total sanitation. The objective of the study is to analyze the factors that influence open defecation behavior after triggering implementation pillar 1 society based total sanitation.The research design used in this research is survey expansion. The population is the head of family with the behavior of open defecation that has obtained trigger pillar 1 in society-based total sanitation at Tulungagung regency. The sample size is 100 respondents by using Cluster sampling technique. Data were collected by using questionnaire, then the data were analyzed by using logistic regression. The results showed that a bad Open Defecation (57%), low economic status (97%), good knowledge (100%), bad culture of defecate (79%), good family support (95%), less community support that is 58 respondents (58%), good community leaders support (100%), distance of house where chapter other than closet (98%). Statistical test results in Overall Statistics with a significance value of (p) 0, 000 which means that there are variables that affect the behavior of OD . When viewed the value (p) on each independent variable is economic status variables have a value (p) of 0, 043; knowledge has value (p) of 1,000; attitude has a value (p) 0.383; cultural variables have value (p) 0,000; family support variables have (p) 0.046; the community support variable has (p) 0.004; support of community leaders have value (p) 0,125 and the distance of trowing feces place another of water closet variable has the value (p) 0, 215. Open defecation behaviour after implementing the tringger of pilar 1 in Society-based total sanitation affected by factor cultur, community support, economic status and family support.

Self-efficacy of osteoporosis preventive behaviors and its predictors in Iranian adolescents.

Almost all the bone mass in females is accumulated during adolescence and especially in the years immediately following menstruation. Self-efficacy plays an important role in moderating the relationship between knowledge and behavior. This study aimed to determine the self-efficacy of osteoporosis preventive behaviors and its predictors in female high school students. This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on 330 female high school students in Saveh, Iran during 2016-2017. A two-stage cluster sampling method was used to select the participants. Data were collected using a socio-demographic questionnaire, the Osteoporosis Knowledge Test (OKT) and the Osteoporosis Self-Efficacy Scale (OSES). A general linear model was used to determine the self-efficacy predictors of osteoporosis preventive behaviors. The mean [standard deviation (SD)] of the total OKT score was 11.08 (4.08) of attainable range from 0 to 32. The mean (SD) of the total OSES score was 121.97 (37.36) of attainable range from 0 to 200. The mean (SD) of the exercise and calcium subscales of OSES were 58.39 (22.56) and 63.57 (21.02), respectively. There were significant relationships between the total OKT score with the total OSES score (r = 0.16, p = 0.003) and its subscales, including exercise (r = 0.16, p = 0.002) and calcium (r = 0.11, p = 0.03) scores. According to the adjusted general linear model, the variables of economic status, educational level and osteoporosis knowledge were predictors of the self-efficacy in the studied students. Findings suggested that most of the students had moderate levels of knowledge and self-efficacy regarding osteoporosis preventive behaviors; therefore, improving the knowledge and self-efficacy of this group can play a significant role in promoting their health.

Political participation of communities in the Legislative General Elections (Pemilu)

The active involvement of the community at all stages of the election is very much needed, because our voice has an important value for the quality of democracy. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of the political participation of the community in the legislative elections held in the electoral district of Banggai III in Banggai District. This research was conducted in Banggai III election area, which consists of 6 districts; Bualemo, Pagimana, Lobu, Bunta, Nuhon, and Simpang Raya. The study population amounted to 101,296 people. The samples were taken using cluster sampling and random sampling, with a 5% margin of error criteria. The total sample was made up of 236 people. The type of research methodology was a survey. The data was analysed using descriptive and inferential analysis. The methods of data collection were observations, in-depth interviews and questionnaires. The results showed that the political participation of the community involved seven variables: 1) the social and economic status of society, 2) geographic situation; 3) parental affiliation; 4) organisational experience; 5) political knowledge and awareness; 6) trust in the Government and 7) mass media socialisation and informal discussions. The social and economic status variables of the community, the experience of community organising and the trust in the Government should be taken seriously by the Regional Government and the KPU. While the models can provide positive nuances in relation to the political participation of the community such as a model capable of providing nuances such as 1) an improvement in social and economic status, 2) increased access regarding the geographical situation, 3) empowering community groups and affiliated politics, 4) improving the organisational experience of the community, 5) increasing public awareness, 6) increasing public trust to Local Government and DPRD, and 6) empowering mass media and informal discussions

Economic underpinnings of violent extremism: A cross country exploration of repeated survey data

Abstract This paper attempts to identify the economic underpinnings of the support for acts of violent extremism (VE). We explore some demographic and economic characteristics of individuals who express support for acts of violent extremism (VE) by using an extensive cross-country multi-year survey dataset ranging from 2007 to 2014. A growing body of empirical research has focused on examining the various socio-economic underpinnings of violent extremism. The results have been inconclusive, at times contradictory and often based on limited set of case studies or smaller single time period cross-section datasets. In this study we use information on a little over forty-eight thousand individuals in 12 countries to evaluate the connections between socio-economic status and support for extremism. While the impact of the socio-economic characteristics on support for violence remains inconclusive in this analysis, we do find interesting and significant results when we interact individual economic status variables with the overall economic growth of the country. Unemployment status and having lower levels of education have significant impacts on the likelihood of support for VE when interacted with country level growth rate. We conclude that inequality or a feeling of being left out-being unemployed, in higher growth countries might be the key to understanding the economic underpinnings of violent extremism.

Academic Motivation and Relevant Predictive Factors in Pharmaceutical Students of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences, Zanjan, Iran in 2016

Background & Objective: The research aimed to determine the level of academic motivation and some of the relevant factors in pharmaceutical students of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences, Zanjan, Iran in 2016. Materials and Methods: This was an applied research in terms of objectives with a descriptive-correlational design. Study population included all pharmaceutical students of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences (N=290) in the academic year of 2016-2017. In total, 168 subjects were selected using the Cochran formula and stratified random method. Data collection tools included three questionnaires of academic motivation, as well as occupational and individual factors, face and content validity of which was previously confirmed by experts. In addition, reliability of the research tools of academic motivation and occupational and institutional factors was estimated at the Cronbachs alpha of 0.88, 0.71, and 0.76, respectively. Results: Analysis of the data through descriptive and inferential statistics demonstrated that the mean academic motivation of students was at an acceptable level and higher than the hypothetical mean. Moreover, a significant relationship was observed between academic motivation and variables of economic status of family, GPA (university grade), and occupational factors (P less-than 0.05). Results of the regression table also demonstrated that occupational factors and university GPA determined the significance of academic motivation. Conclusion: According to the results of the study, university GPA had an impact on the academic motivation of students and was able to predict this concept to a certain extent.

Data and Model Cross-Validation to Improve Accuracy of Microsimulation Results: Estimates for the Polish Household Budget Survey

We conduct detailed analysis of the Polish Household Budget Survey data for the years 2006-2011 with the focus on its representativeness from the point of view of microsimulation analysis. We find important discrepancies between the data weighted with baseline grossing-up weights and official statistics from other sources. A number of re-weighting exercises is examined from the point of view of the accuracy of microsimulation results and we show that using a combination of demographic calibration targets with several economic status variables or tax identifiers from the microsimulation model substantially improves the correspondence of model results and administrative data. While demographic re-weighting is neutral from the point of view of income distribution, calibrating the grossing-up weights to adjust for economic status and tax identifiers significantly increases income inequality. We argue that although data reweighting can substantially improve the accuracy of microsimulation it should be used with caution.

Influences of socioeconomic factors on childhood and adolescent overweight by gender in Korea: cross-sectional analysis of nationally representative sample

BackgroundChildhood and adolescent overweight is a recognized public health concern as the prevalence is already high and continues to increase. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and overweight status by gender among Korean children and adolescents.MethodsThe data used in this study were taken from the 2009 Korean Survey on the Obesity of Youth and Children. Underweight individuals (n = 1,010) and children and adolescents whose age, height, or weight information was missing (n = 591) were excluded from the data set, resulting in a total of 8,555 subjects who were included in this analysis. Subjective SES, parental education level, parental occupational status, and family structure were used to measure parental SES. Chi-squared tests were used for univariable analysis and multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted for multivariable analysis.ResultsAfter adjusting for subject’s characteristics including gender, age, parental interest in weight management of children, parental body shape, economic status variables that significantly influenced childhood overweight were identified. Low economic status increased the probability of childhood overweight (odds ratio, 1.3; 95% confidence interval, 1.1-1.5).ConclusionsThere is an inverse association between parental SES variables and the overweight status of children and adolescents. Additionally, parental body shape is an important factor that influences childhood and adolescent overweight.

Understanding Perceptions of Economic Status among Centenarians

Centenarians are often concerned with outliving their accumulated resources. Yet, research consistently finds that older adults, despite low incomes, are more financially satisfied than younger adults. This "satisfaction paradox" has been attributed to psychological accommodation to poor financial circumstances and lower expectations. As a result, scholars differentiate between objective levels of need and subjective perceptions. Missing is an understanding of whether feeling economically secure is associated with physical, mental, and/or psychological well-being and whether it varies by institutionalization status. This study examined data from 152 centenarians who participated in the first wave of the Iowa Centenarian Study. Analyses examined six perceived economic status variables (sufficiency of financial resources, ability to meet expenses, finances compared to others, meeting needs, ability to purchase extras, and having enough money for the future) and measures derived from activities of daily living, the Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire (Pfeiffer, 1975) and the Geriatric Depression Scale (Yesavage, Brink, Rose, Lum, Huang, Adey, et al., 1983). Findings indicated that most centenarians do not feel able to handle their finances, yet believe that they are doing relatively well financially. Perceived economic status was positively associated with ability to complete daily living activities, cognitive ability, and psychological well-being with results differing by institutional status. In the end, we agree with other scholars that these relationships are rarely simple and require future exploration.

Racial disparities in allergic outcomes in African Americans emerge as early as age 2 years

Racial disparities in allergic disease outcomes have been reported with African Americans suffering disproportionately compared to White individuals. To examine whether or not racial disparities are present as early as age 2years in a racially diverse birth cohort in the Detroit metropolitan area. All children who were participants in a birth cohort study in the Detroit metropolitan area were invited for a standardized physician exam with skin prick testing and parental interview at age 2years. Physicians made inquiries regarding wheezing and allergy symptoms and inspected for and graded any atopic dermatitis (AD). Skin testing was performed for Alternaria, cat, cockroach, dog, Dermatophagoides farinae (Der F), Short Ragweed, Timothy grass, egg, milk and peanut. Specific IgE was measured for these same allergens and total IgE was determined. African American children (n=466) were more likely than White children (n=223) to have experienced any of the outcomes examined: at least 1 positive skin prick test from the panel of 10 allergens (21.7% vs. 11.0%, P=0.001); at least one specific IgE≥0.35IU/mL (out of a panel of 10 allergens) (54.0% vs. 42.9%, P=0.02); had AD (27.0% vs. 13.5%, Chi-square P<0.001); and to ever have wheezed (44.9% vs. 36.0%, P=0.03). African American children also tended to have higher total IgE (geometric means 23.4IU/mL (95%CI 20.8, 27.6) vs. 16.7IU/mL (95%CI 13.6, 20.6IU/mL), Wilcoxon Rank Sum P=0.004). With the exception of wheezing, the associations did not vary after adjusting for common social economic status variables (e.g. household income), environmental variables (endotoxin; dog, cat and cockroach allergen in house dust) or variables that differed between the racial groups (e.g. breastfeeding). After adjustment, the wheeze difference was ameliorated. With disparities emerging as early as age 2years, investigations into sources of the disparities should include the prenatal period and early life.
