Education is a key element in the life of any country. Through it sets the type of society we want to conform, making possible the social, cultural and economic development of peoples. That is why greater efforts and greater state investments are directed towards the implementation of a model efficient and quality education. Education and teaching and are a cornerstone of any political system of democracy based on freedom and pluralism, which in turn is reflected in the recognition of a set of their own rights in education. The education of our country in the global and European context in which we draw a complex picture in terms of freedom of education is concerned. The Spanish Constitution of 1978, has been providing a legal framework for progress, respect and understanding with the recognition of a double right in education: the right of everyone to education and the right to freedom of education (art. 27.1 CE).

A citizen‐led program for rural community economic development: Two case studies

The Citizen‐Led Economic Development Project facilitates a leadership role in rural economic development for people with disabilities and agencies that serve them. If people with disabilities and human service agencies are involved in economic development activities, it is anticipated that local decision‐making will better address their interests. Using Project guidelines, people with disabilities lead a community economic assessment using “import substitution” and “value‐added” economic development strategies. Human service agencies use recommendations from the community assessment to build linkages with local economic development leaders and stakeholders. This paper describes the first two implementations of the Citizen Led Economic Development Project in Eastern Utah and Northeastern Vermont.

Mapping in U.S. Foreign Assistance Program

Surveying and mapping are fundamental technologies in conducting the U.S. foreign assistance program. Mapped data play a key role in policy decisions made by the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID). These data also affect the well‐being and economic development of people in the 71 nations that AID assists. Management of the rapidly evolving technologies in the mapping field is made even more complex by their application in remote, often harsh environments typically found in developing countries. The mapping component of a project and its level of technical sophistication are products of the development strategy of the country and the economic sectors it hopes to address. Examples include mapping for irrigation management in the Nile delta, crop forecasting for famine in Sudan, severe storm warning and flooding in Bangladesh, and highland forest development in Peru.
