Eco-friendly interior design, also known as sustainable design, is a growing trend that prioritizes creating spaces that are both beautiful and environmentally responsible. It involves making conscious choices about materials, finishes, and overall design to minimize the negative impact on the planet. This study explores the implementation of eco-friendly design techniques in hospitality spaces, with a focus on restaurants. As the hospitality industry, particularly restaurants, faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices, this research examines how eco-friendly design can reduce environmental impact while maintaining operational efficiency and aesthetic appeal. Restaurants, known for their high energy consumption and waste production, are ideal candidates for integrating sustainable design elements. The study analyses key eco-friendly design strategies. Sustainable materials, including recycled and locally sourced products, contribute to lowering the carbon footprint of restaurants. By examining case studies of restaurants successfully implementing these practices, the study provides insights into best practices and potential challenges.

Research on Urban Renewal Design in the Context of the Future Community Concept

As urbanization accelerates, traditional cities face numerous challenges such as aging infrastructure, limited community functions, and inadequate environmental sustainability. The concept of the "future community," as an innovative approach to urban development, emphasizes the application of smart technologies, enhanced community participation, eco-friendly designs, and diversified economic growth, providing a new direction for urban renewal. This study aims to explore the application of the future community concept in urban renewal design through a combination of literature review, case studies, and data analysis, systematically analyzing the core characteristics of future communities and their impact on urban renewal. The research selects typical urban renewal cases from both domestic and international contexts, constructs a relationship model between future communities and urban renewal, and proposes a series of design strategies such as participatory design, smart technology integration, sustainable green design, and mixed-use development. Comparative analysis reveals that the future community concept significantly improves social inclusiveness, technological application levels, and environmental sustainability, while also boosting economic vitality. The use of data tables further validates the effectiveness of these design strategies, providing empirical support for urban planning and design. The study concludes that while the future community concept offers important guidance for urban renewal, challenges such as technological, financial, and policy issues must still be overcome during implementation. Finally, the paper offers relevant policy recommendations and future research directions to provide theoretical and practical references for building more livable, intelligent, and sustainable urban communities.

A sustainable design approach of a mega hostel: a study based at NIT, Srinagar, Kashmir, India

ABSTRACT In a sustainable building design, energy, water and resource optimization are key considerations, along with minimizing impacts on the ecology and environment. In this case study, water-related issues are considered from a sustainability perspective. The main objective of this study is to provide a sustainable design for a mega-hostel at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, with the aim of achieving an eco-friendly design which minimizes its dependence on external sources of energy. Rainwater harvesting, greywater reuse and the installation of a biogas plant are the three main techniques considered in this project. Rainfall data was collected and water demands for the mega-hostel and greywater produced by the mega-hostel were estimated. Potential rainwater harvesting, dimensions of a storage tank, first flush volume, discharges and dimensions of gutters have been calculated in this study. Greywater quantity has been calculated and a membrane bioreactor (MBR) to treat greywater is suggested, because it is space-optimized. Dimensions of a biogas plant and the quantity of gas released have also been estimated based on the amount of food waste generated by the mega-hostel.

A study on eco-friendly materials for 3D printing – focused on Korean Hwangto(Loess) -

ABSTRACT Of the 37% of carbon dioxide emissions generated by the construction industry, 5–7% comes from cement processing. In response to this problem, ways to utilize soil, a material with low energy consumption, are being explored as an eco-friendly option. In particular, eco-friendly design is being emphasized in the construction field through 3D printing technology. The research method proceeds in two stages. The first measures the changes in drying shrinkage, volume mass, compressive strength, and flexural strength over 7 days for a test specimen created by mixing coffee, charcoal, and rice bran with Hwangto. In the second step, slaked lime, a solidifying material, is mixed and tested under the same test specimen conditions as in the first. As a result of the experiment, the higher the mixing ratio of Hwangto, the greater the compressive strength and flexural strength. In particular, coffee exhibited the highest compressive strength at 1.50MPa, while charcoal demonstrated the highest flexural strength at 0.51MPa. However, when solidifying materials were mixed, the overall strength decreased, especially in the case of coffee (1.50MPa for the first time/0.87MPa for the second time), which showed a 42% decrease. Overall, charcoal was the most suitable mixing material and exhibited consistent and stable strength values in all experiments. Based on these experimental results, a 1/50 scale pavilion was produced through 3D printing. The stable shape and appropriate strength of the result were confirmed, making it suitable for educational or practical purposes. It suggests the possibility of use across industries.

Defense Infrastructure Development Strategy in the Ibu Kota Nusantara Area

This study explores the defense infrastructure development strategy in the Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) area, focusing on the current state, challenges, opportunities, and strategies for enhancement. The IKN area, strategically positioned amidst geopolitical tensions and technological advancements, presents a unique context for analyzing defense infrastructure. The research employs qualitative methods using secondary data, including policy documents, infrastructure reports, and scholarly articles. The findings reveal a well-distributed network of military installations and strategic assets in the IKN area, which enhances readiness but also exposes vulnerabilities such as geopolitical tensions and technological risks. Challenges include navigating complex geopolitical rivalries, integrating advanced technologies, and addressing environmental impacts. Opportunities exist in leveraging collaborative partnerships, adopting innovative technologies, and implementing sustainable practices. Strategies for enhancing resilience and effectiveness include adopting eco-friendly design principles, multi-layered defense planning, and capacity-building programs. The study concludes that a focused approach on resilience and adaptability is crucial for improving defense infrastructure and maintaining long-term security in the IKN area.

Influence of Hotel Design on Guest Experience and Satisfaction in Kenya

Purpose: The aim of the study was to assess the influence of hotel design on guest experience and satisfaction in Kenya. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low-cost advantage as compared to field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: The study indicated that aesthetic appeal, functionality, and comfort of hotel interiors significantly contribute to guest satisfaction. Elements such as room layout, furniture design, lighting, and color schemes can create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere, enhancing the perceived quality of the stay. Additionally, common areas like lobbies, restaurants, and recreational facilities also impact guests' first impressions and ongoing experiences. The design must cater to diverse guest needs, offering both communal and private spaces that facilitate social interactions and personal relaxation. Moreover, incorporating local culture and unique design elements can provide a memorable and authentic experience, further boosting guest satisfaction. Sustainable and eco-friendly design practices are increasingly valued by guests, reflecting their growing environmental consciousness. Overall, a well-thought-out hotel design can significantly enhance guest experience, leading to higher satisfaction, repeat visits, and positive reviews, which are vital for the hotel's success in a competitive market. Implications to Theory, Practice and Policy: Environmental psychology theory, services cape theory and expectancy-disconfirmation theory may be used to anchor future studies on assessing the influence of hotel design on guest experience and satisfaction in Kenya. Hotels should prioritize investing in visually appealing and unique design elements, especially in common areas like lobbies. Policymakers should encourage and incentivize sustainable design practices in the hospitality industry.

Eco-Friendly Design of Chitosan-Based Films with Biodegradable Properties as an Alternative to Low-Density Polyethylene Packaging.

Biopolymer-based films are a promising alternative for the food packaging industry, in which petrochemical-based polymers like low-density polyethylene (LDPE) are commanding attention because of their high pollution levels. In this research, a biopolymer-based film made of chitosan (CS), gelatin (GEL), and glycerol (GLY) was designed. A Response Surface Methodology (RSM) analysis was performed to determine the chitosan, gelatin, and glycerol content that improved the mechanical properties selected as response variables (thickness, tensile strength (TS), and elongation at break (EAB). The content of CS (1.1% w/v), GEL (1.1% w/v), and GLY (0.4% w/v) in the film-forming solution guarantees an optimized film (OPT-F) with a 0.046 ± 0.003 mm thickness, 11.48 ± 1.42 mPa TS, and 2.6 ± 0.3% EAB. The OPT-F was characterized in terms of thermal, optical, and biodegradability properties compared to LDPE films. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) revealed that the OPT-F was thermally stable at temperatures below 300 °C, which is relevant to thermal processes in the food industry of packaging. The reduced water solubility (WS) (24.34 ± 2.47%) and the improved biodegradability properties (7.1%) compared with LDPE suggests that the biopolymer-based film obtained has potential applications in the food industry as a novel packaging material and can serve as a basis for the design of bioactive packaging.

This research uses a quantitative approach with a survey technique of 50 responses conducted during the April 2024 joint leave at the Belitung island tourist attraction. This research found that tiktok, natural, no additional costs, halal culinary are important points for tourists when deciding to travel. aligning tourist attraction development with these values, destinations can increase visitor satisfaction, preserve cultural and natural heritage, encourage local community involvement, and promote responsible and sustainable tourism practices. To achieve this resonance, tourist destination development should engage local stakeholders, adopt a place-based approach, apply ergonomic and eco-friendly design principles, authentically interpret cultural and natural heritage, and monitor and manage tourism impacts. The resonance of tourist attractions with ergo-iconic values can create meaningful tourism experiences and contribute to sustainable tourism development.

Lignin-derived carbon as rapid charge-transfer bridge for efficient solar-driven H2O2 production over CN/Mxene heterojunction

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4, CN) has been recognized as an environmentally friendly, and promising photocatalyst, particularly for solar-driven synthesis of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Heterostructure engineering to decorated CN is an effective approach for boosting photocatalytic H2O2 production. However, the current challenge lies in the efficient transmission of interfacial charge carriers. Herein, we propose a breakthrough approach to synthesize g-C3N4/Mxene (CNM) composites with lignin-derived carbon (L) as a bridge for electron transfer. The optimal ternary heterojunction (CNM,L) demonstrated its impressive performance (0.75 mmol/L) for photocatalytic H2O2 production, which was three times higher than that of pristine CN. The significance of lignin-derived carbon in g-C3N4/Mxene composites not only improves light adsorption, but also promotes electron transfer between the interfacial g-C3N4 and Mxene during the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) process for H2O2 evolution. This work provides an eco-friendly design of lignin-derived carbon, which efficiently tunes the photo-generated charge transfer of CN-based photocatalysts for H2O2 generation.

An analysis of the Puri Brata Resort & Gallery building’s design from an environmental aesthetics and sustainability perspective

The research paper delves into the implementation of sustainable architectural design practices at Puri Brata Resort & Gallery in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The primary objective of the study is to analyze the impact of eco-friendly design principles on both the environment and visitor experience within the resort. Data collection for this research involved conducting a comprehensive survey among visitors to the resort, focusing on aspects such as air quality, temperature control, and overall visitor comfort. Additionally, data was gathered on the utilization of green spaces within the resort and the incorporation of local cultural values and aesthetics in the architectural design. The survey responses were then analyzed to evaluate the perceived impact of sustainable design elements on the guest experience and environmental sustainability. The findings of the research indicate that the integration of eco-friendly practices at Puri Brata Resort & Gallery has positively impacted various aspects, including improved air quality, efficient temperature control, and enhanced visitor comfort. The use of recycled materials, renewable energy sources, and green spaces has contributed to creating a harmonious and sustainable environment that enhances the overall guest experience. The study underscores the importance of incorporating sustainable design principles in architectural practices to create spaces that benefit both the environment and visitors. This research provides valuable insights for industry practitioners and policymakers looking to adopt sustainable design practices in the hospitality and tourism sector.

Chitosan as Support Material for Metal-Organic Framework based Catalysts.

Turning waste into valuable products is one of the main challenges of the chemical industry. In this work, chitosan (CS), an abundant, low-cost, and non-toxic biopolymer derived from chitin, was reshaped into beads of ~3 mm. Their suitability as a support material for active phase catalyst materials was tested for a zirconium-based Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) with incorporated Pt, namely UiO-67-Pt. Its incorporation was investigated via two procedures: a one-pot synthesis (OPS) and a post-synthetic functionalization (PSF) synthesis method. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images show good UiO-67-Pt dispersion throughout the CS beads for the one-pot synthesized material (UiO-67-Pt-OPS@CS). However, this uniform dispersion was not observed for the post-synthetically functionalized material (UiO-67-Pt-PSF@CS). The success of the implementation of UiO-67-Pt was evaluated with ultraviolet-visible and infrared spectroscopy for both composite materials. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) reveals higher thermal stabilities for UiO-67-Pt-OPS@CS composite beads in comparison to pure CS beads, but not for UiO-67-Pt-PSF@CS. The study provides valuable insights into the potential of chitosan as a green, bead-shaped support material for MOFs, offering flexibility in their incorporation through different synthesis routes. It further contributes to the broader goal of the sustainable and eco-friendly design of a new generation of catalysts made from waste materials, which will be the topic of future studies.

Systematic Review of Factors Influencing Students’ Performance in Educational Buildings: Focus on LCA, IoT, and BIM

In the evolving field of civil engineering studies, a significant transition is evident from fundamental to new-generation research approaches. This paper presents a systematic literature review aimed at analyzing these shifts, focusing specifically on the performance of students in educational buildings thought the integration of modern technologies such as the Internet of Things, life cycle assessments, and building information modeling. Covering the literature from the late twentieth century to the early twenty-first century, the review emphasizes advancements in sustainable infrastructure, eco-friendly designs, digitalization, and advanced modeling. A comparative analysis reveals that while the fundamental articles are primarily focused on indoor air quality parameters, the new-generation articles prioritize technological integration to address broader environmental concerns and for improved building performance. Challenges in the education sector, such as insufficient energy use, high maintenance costs, and poor working conditions, are also discussed, showcasing their impact on student learning outcomes. The methodology employed for this review included a comprehensive search in databases such as Scopus and Web of Science, using keywords such as “school buildings”, “IoT”, “BIM”, and “LCA”, ensuring a robust and diverse collection of academic articles. The findings show that new trends supplement existing topics, suggesting an integration rather than a replacement of traditional practices. Consequently, future research efforts will need to include a broader range of information to fully account for the evolving landscape in this field.

With the increasing emphasis on the eco-friendly paradigm, the sustainability of office buildings has become more important. This study aims to investigate the design characteristics of eco-friendly buildings and explore efficient eco-friendly design solutions by analyzing cases where biomimicry technology has been applied. Buildings are analyzed using a framework consisting of six aspects: technicality, recyclability, ecology, cultural compatibility, healthiness, and social compatibility. As a result, buildings minimize environmental impact through principles such as natural ventilation, insulation, natural lighting, and recycling, showing positive effects on health and social aspects. Notably, the correlation between technicality and healthiness is high, with the indoor environment emerging as the most critical factor. Biomimicry design is expected to be a crucial solution for innovative and competitive eco-friendly building design. Therefore, it is necessary to address economic issues such as initial investment costs to establish non-standard designs emphasizing ecology. This study aims to present a direction for sustainable building design.

Conservation of resources for sustainable performance in tourism

This study aims to examine the impact of green purchasing, waste management, eco-friendly design of products and services, and customer relationship management on sustainable performance in the South Asian tourism industry. The contemporary tourism and hospitality industry increasingly focuses on environmental sustainability. The tourism sector is considered to contribute significantly to the economy. It allows employment and generates economic profits, resulting in an increase in overall economic activity. This study used deductive and quantitative approaches to evaluate the research hypotheses. Data was gathered from 463 tourism-related businesses situated across diverse locations in Pakistan. This study discovered that green purchasing has a significant impact on sustainable performance. Similarly, waste management, eco-friendly design of products and services, and customer relationship management all had a significant impact on sustainable performance. This research presents a framework that highlights the practices of tourism businesses in attaining sustainable performance, utilizing the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory for support. The inclusion of COR theory in examining variables related to sustainable performance is considered a unique and pioneering contribution to interdisciplinary fields such as supply chain management and the tourism industry. Furthermore, this study is the first of its kind in the South Asian region, specifically in Pakistan.

Comprehensive analysis of the impacts of climate and land use changes on flood damage (Case study: AqQala, Iran)

ABSTRACT Population growth, community development, and waste generation impact climate, land use, water resources, and urban heat island effect. This research assesses the impacts of climate and land use changes on flood damage for different return periods (RPs) in AqQala area, Iran. Climate change anticipation is conducted using the CMCC-ESM2 model under shared socioeconomic pathways (SSPs) 126, 370, and 585 of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sixth assessment report (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 – CMIP6). The LARS-WG model is used to downscale climatic information, and land use mapping is processed through Landsat satellite images in ENVI 5.3. The Markov chain method is implemented for 2050 and 2080 via TerrSet. Hydrographs and inundation maps are generated by the Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA) and Hydrologic Engineering Center's River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) models. Results show an increase in average annual precipitation (up to 46%) and temperatures (up to 3.39 °C) under different SSP scenarios until 2080. The result indicates that land use changes are more significant than climate change. Peak flood discharge and damages could escalate by 38 and 29%, respectively, in the worst-case scenario. Eco-friendly design and implementation are crucial for improving the situation.

Innovative eco-friendly design solutions for energy demands using swirl- induced burner by jets

Addressing the need for innovative burner designs to optimize combustion characteristics and meet energy efficiency goals, this study introduces a novel concept rooted in swirl-induced flames. The proposed burner employs a unique approach to generate air and fuel swirl using four opposing slots in two sets, each set at distinct angles. Incorporating of a channel within the outer casing allows for fine-tuning of entry angles, optimizing the double swirling process. The objective of this research is to enhance combustion characteristics through the implementation of the swirl principle, introducing a tangential velocity component to the airflow or fuel-air mixture upon entry into the burner. Systematic measurements at various entry angles (0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, and 60°) are conducted to identify optimal or near-optimal conditions. The research covers a comparison between flow fields generated by traditional swirled vanes and swirl-induced injection ports at identical inlet conditions, revealing enhanced flame stability and combustion efficiency in the latter configuration. The formation of recirculation zones around the burner, facilitated by increased outer air jet velocities, promotes better mixing and stability. This research contributes valuable insights into burner design and optimization, with implications for improved combustion efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Water park of the future: Monarch butterfly slide with eco-friendly design and smart water management

In this study, an innovative water park concept slide that aims to keep water consumption low was designed and produced. Traditional water parks are out of use at a rate of approximately 65% because they are inefficient in water and energy consumption. This work will be a pioneering step in the sector with the combination of environmentally friendly design, smart water management systems, and sustainable technologies. Users entering the 43% inclined butterfly body will reach a speed of 16 m/sec while performing the vertical swing movement and will move with an acceleration of 0.5m/sec2 on the horizontal axis. Since the high-pressure water coming from the nozzles on the slide will be used only when there is movement, approximately 70% water and 50% energy savings will be achieved and sliding safety will also be increased. The proposed saving system will be produced using the inverter, integrated circuit, smart card, and software developed to be added to the pump and will be adapted to all slides. The fact that this study is a first in the sector will inspire other water parks and lead to the development of projects that consider sustainability and savings issues.

Towards circular fashion: Management strategies promoting circular behaviour along the value chain

The fashion industry is a significant driver of cultural, societal, and economic growth worldwide, but its traditional linear approach has led to negative environmental and social impacts. This study addresses the need to transition towards sustainable and circular practices by exploring the relationship between management strategies and behaviours across the fashion value chain. Through 10 semi-structured interviews with top industry decision-makers, thematic analysis revealed eight core themes, including collaborations, marketing strategies, product-related characteristics, education and awareness, business models, integration of technology, regulations and legislation, and strategic planning. The study provides targeted recommendations for stakeholders to promote a more sustainable and circular behaviour in the fashion industry. For instance, it emphasises strategic partnerships with suppliers, waste management companies, and consumers to minimise waste and promote circularity across the value chain. It urges the adoption of sustainable materials and eco-friendly designs for environmentally conscious consumers and encourages visual storytelling for transparency. Additionally, the study highlights the need for circular business models, recommending on-demand and made-to-measure manufacturing to align production with demand and reduce overproduction. Offering end-of-life strategies such as take-back programs, recycling initiatives, and repair services extends product lifecycles and creates sustainable value. Integrating advanced technologies such as digital IDs improves supply chain transparency and accountability. These actionable recommendations guided the development of a comprehensive framework for the practical application of sustainable and circular practices across the value chain, offering industry practitioners, researchers and policymakers effective strategies for driving impactful change within the fashion industry.

Sustainable Development of Landscape Architecture from the Perspective of Energy and Environment Management

A major concern in the field of landscape architecture is sustainable development. The goal of this strategy is to provide design solutions that satisfy current demands without jeopardizing the capacity of future generations to satisfy their own. The viewpoint of energy and environmental management is crucial for achieving sustainable development in landscape architecture. Energy management is essential to landscape architecture because it involves resource efficiency, reducing energy usage, and integrating renewable energy sources. It includes incorporating strategies like passive solar design, proper material selection, and the use of green infrastructure systems. These practices not only promote eco-friendly designs but also reduce the cost of maintenance and operation in the long term. Environmental management focuses on preserving and enhancing the natural environment through sustainable land use practices.
