Analysis the function of kakujoshi de In Today Easy Japanese News Application. Thesis. In general, joshi can be divided into four types, that are setsuzokujoshi, fukujoshi, kakujoshi, fukujosi, and shuujoshi. Kakujoshi is a particle in Japanese which is a link between noun and predicate. Kakujoshi has various functions and meanings, in a sentence kakujoshi there are several different functions. The researcher appraise that the importance of research analyzes kakujoshi in the Today Easy Japanese News application, so that there is no misunderstanding of students. The aims of this study is to describe the function of kakujoshi in Today Easy Japanese News application. This study uses descriptive qualitative design. The data in this study are sentences that use kakujoshi function in Today Easy Japanese News application according to Sugihartono's theory (2001). The data source in this study is the Today Easy Japanese News application. The instrument of this research is the research itself. Based on the results of the research conducted, researcher found seven functions of kakujoshi de in the Today Easy Japanese News application based on Sugihartono's theory (2001). Kakujoshi function that is not found in Today Easy Japanese News application is the function of showing the “most” at a certain scope/group in revealing something.

The Importance of "Easy Japanese": Communicating Health Information to Foreigners in Japan.

The number of foreign workers in Japan has been increasing in recent years. In Shimane Prefecture, people from non-English speaking countries account for most of the foreign resident population. Language barriers pose numerous challenges for this population. Their problems communicating in the medical context, in particular, contribute to their avoidance of hospitals. In addition to translation machines and English, "Easy Japanese" has been found to help Japanese healthcare workers communicate with foreign patients. “Easy Japanese" refers to easy-to-understand Japanese that involves rephrasing words and sentences. The use of Easy Japanese should be promoted among medical professionals in Japan as it is considered a communication skill that can be improved through practice. A voluntary study group was formed among medical students. During the first session, students were presented with background information, explaining why the need for Easy Japanese is increasing. In the second session, they practiced paraphrasing words. Finally, in the third session, they conducted simulated medical communication and practiced Easy Japanese with foreign residents to determine whether they were able to convey their intentions. Participants were recruited via social networking service, with five participants in the first session, five in the second, and eight in the third. Through this project, it became clear that for participants, the usual way of speaking Japanese came first in practice and that it was difficult for them to produce easy-to-understand phrases at the spur of the moment without practice. Additionally, medical students reported that the expressions they acquired through several practice sessions were helpful when talking with international students on campus. The final session involved a student-led Easy Japanese study group. Based on the students’ comments, we found that this study group was useful for them. Accordingly, Easy Japanese education should be continued and expanded to more students in the medical field and to the local community, including foreign residents, to measure its effectiveness.

Rural Easy Japanese as a Method of Mitigating Language Barriers Among Foreigners Seeking Medical Care in Rural Japan.

Mitigating difficulties in communication is vital in multicultural societies. Particularly, foreigners face greater communication difficulties because of language barriers, posing a challenge to both themselves and indigenous people. In Japan, the increase in the number of foreigners has driven the use of Easy Japanese, a free online program of Japanese language lessons. Easy Japanese can facilitate communication between medical professionals and foreigners. Easy Japanese is mainly characterized by short sentences, an upfront conclusion, and avoiding polite Japanese words when collaborating with translators. This communication method should prevail not only in urban areas but also in rural areas, and can help individuals in rural contexts prepare for an increase in the number of foreigners.

Is ‘Easy Japanese’ a Language Option? Local Responses to the Increasing Foreign Resident Population from Southeast Asia

ABSTRACT ‘Easy Japanese’ (yasashii nihongo, YN) was initially developed to disseminate information to foreign residents during emergencies after the Great Hanshin Earthquake struck Japan in 1995. Since then, YN has been promoted as a tool for communicating with foreign residents, as well as with foreign visitors to Japan in the lead-up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. While it has gained partial recognition among the public, local governments have tried to use YN to deal with the increasing number of temporary workers from Southeast Asia. This study examines how YN is used by municipalities in the regions where foreign residents are concentrated, and whether that usage has changed in recent years. Based on interviews with employees of municipal offices and libraries, and information on their websites, as well as relevant government documents, it reveals a lack of systematic coordination within municipalities and an absence of any initiative by the central government to implement YN. It argues that the ambiguous positioning of YN within Japan’s language policy reinforces the division between Japanese people and people who do not speak Japanese, and highlights the government’s limited commitment to improving the lives of foreign workers in Japan.

Gairaigo in Japanese and Its Cultural Implication

This research is an attempt to study gairaigo in Japanese. The study is focused on the formation, meaning, and cultural implication of gairaigo. The data for this study are Japanese loan words borrowed from English taken from NHK Easy Japanese News from May 2021 to October 2021. The research used qualitative and quantitative approaches. The data are collected by using the non-participant observation method. The analysis of data is done by using the intralingual equivalent method. The result of the study shows from 32 gairaigo collected from NHK Easy Japanese News, 98% of them are adapted to the Japanese linguistic system in the form of sound insertion and substitution. The formation of gairaigo is done by adjusting linguistic forms of English into Japanese. The formation of gairaigo causes the change in meaning which also implies Japanese culture. The formation of gairaigo while maintaining the linguistic features of the Japanese language is a sign of the language loyalty of Japanese speakers to their language.

An interdisciplinary study for the development of integral Japanese textbooks for foreign-rooted children using Yasashii-Nihongo (Easy Japanese)

The different aspects to learning the Japanese language vary in difficulty, with the syllabaries that form part of the Japanese writing system and pronunciation being seen as relatively straightforward elements. Learning Japanese grammar is also considered to be relatively straightforward, but learning the logographic Chinese characters is considered very difficult. Foreign people living in Japan may struggle with these different aspects of learning the Japanese language and, without at least a basic understanding of the Japanese language, will likely find life challenging. Professor Isao Iori, Center for Global Education and Exchange, Hitotsubashi University, Japan, is heading up a project to help long-term foreign residents (LFR) learn Japanese and adequately function in Japanese society. The project covers Japanese language education for children of LFRs and deaf children. A key concept for Iori and the team is Yasashii Nihongo, which refers to easy or plain Japanese and is designed to help LFRs express themselves. The concept involves LFRs learning an easier version of the Japanese language while native speakers of Japanese adjust their Japanese to a level that can easily be understood by LFRs. The researchers have created a realistic, ideal model for Yasashii Nihongo becoming a common language, that involves gradual implementation as well as making clear the necessity of a common language for native Japanese speakers and LFRs alike.

Japan has been making efforts towards a multicultural symbiosis society for a Abstract ― Among the East Asian countries, Japan has been making efforts towards a multicultural symbiosis in its society for a relatively long period. The language of multicultural symbiosis has long been used in Japanese society. However, it does not necessarily mean that multicultural symbiosis has become familiar to most people. This is especially relevant in the daily life of its residents. Multicultural symbiosis still remains in the hands of a very limited number of experts. As a way of communicating in a multicultural society in Japan, the concept of “friendly Japanese” attracts attention. In the case of South Korea, the linguistic support for foreign residents is focused on Korean language education and it can be said that the multi󰠏factor correspondence level is still inadequate. As multiculturalization progresses, it is very important for native speakers and Japanese󰠏native speakers to work towards understanding each other and to smoothly communicate as soon as possible. This is necessary in order to achieve a truly multicultural symbiosis. This research focuses on “Easy Japanese” in the linguistic aspects of the Japanese multicultural symbiosis, and how it relates to the aspect of providing information for foreigners living in Korea. Korea is rapidly becoming a multicultural society and so “Easy Korean” was introduced. This was based on a production of using gentle Korean public languages, thereby friendly Korean was proposed. There is a real possibility that it will become a new model of communication in Korean society, which is further becoming more multicultural in its future. Through living in the same area, people will begin to learn to understand each other without perfect communication or discriminating against others ethnicity, race, nationality, gender, language “ability” etc. In order to become a society that can grow together, it is required that the accepting side firstly and consciously opens a heart to communicate. Such a posture will be indispensable for a multicultural symbiosis society to prosper.
