Frost weathering of glacial till exposed in stream banks, fields, and construction sites in east-central Wisconsin results in extensive disintegration and dehydration of the till. Erosion of the till granules produced by this weathering accounts for much of the stream-bank erosion in this area. Till granules carried by streams are usually transported as bedload and frequently form bar deposits. Thus, it would not be surprising to find in the stratigraphic record, deposits of fine-grained sediment that accumulated as granule-size particles in association with coarser sands and gravels.
