Examining the President's 2024 Election Strategy through Weberian Conflict Theory

As Head of State, a President has a very vital role in efforts to maintain state sovereignty. However, in the 2024 general election in Indonesia, the President reaped negative sentiments identified as the term "Dynastic Politics," which could potentially damage the democratic system. This research is oriented toward identifying and analyzing the President's political leadership strategy in the 2024 election by implementing Weberian conflict theory. Actualize the qualitative description approach with the type of literature study. The data collected will be understood, recorded, and analyzed using Weberian conflict theory. Then, conclusions can be drawn with deductive patterns. The study results stated that charismatic leaders in this regard are more than just fixated on traditional principles of authority, as Weber argues. But also charismatic leaders who are on formal legal authority (President). The President, in this case, carries out a political strategy to form a political dynasty by using the existence of his charismatic leadership. By maintaining legitimacy rather than democratic principles, this strategy will continue to create conflicts with negative implications for charismatic leaders.

Dampak Dinasti Politik Terhadap Culture Demokrasi Pancasila di Indonesia

Abstract This article examines the development of political dynasties in Indonesia and their impact on Pancasila democracy. The phenomenon of dynastic politics at the local level, which is increasingly prevalent in various regions of Indonesia, is the background of this discussion. The emergence of politics under this dynasty presents various positive and negative aspects, which reflect the dynamics of the political culture of Indonesian society in politics and democracy. Families maintain power by placing their members in strategic positions in the formal (government) and informal (business or project) sectors. The history of Indonesian governance shows the existence of political dynasties that last for years. If not addressed, these political dynasties can flourish, creating pros and cons amidst the implementation of Pancasila democratic governance. This research aims to explore the implementation of governance in Indonesia and understand how political dynasties affect the development of Pancasila democracy in the country.

Public attention to Indonesian dynastic politics: an analysis of social media networks

ABSTRACT This research aims to identify and map social networks on social media We took a dataset from as the unit of analysis. We did data mining from X to collect 19,231 Tweets, 20,023 re-tweets, and 11,890 nodes and 9466 edges. The research results concluded that the communication network map on social media X identified the Gibran node which has intermediary factors and relationships as well as the actor with the most centrality and is a link to other actors in the social media communication network X by becoming the trending topic ‘Gibran’. The communication network metrics graph also found the ‘Gibran’ account to be the actor with the most contacts on ‘X’. The ‘Jokowi’ account was the second most contacted. This research found a gap in the need to expand the analysis to different cultures or countries to understand differences and similarities in social interaction patterns. Another gap in this research exists in terms of expanding the analysis to different topics or communities to gain a broader understanding of social network dynamics.

The Effectiveness of Campaign Digital Politics in Increasing the Electability of Prospective Candidates: A Analysis General Election of President and Vice President 2019

In this digital era, political campaigns have experienced significant changes with the emergence of various social media platforms and digital technology. This phenomenon is no exception in the context of the 2019 presidential and vice-presidential general elections in Indonesia. Digital political campaigns have become an integral part of candidates' strategies in winning the hearts of voters and increasing their electability. In this analysis, we evaluate the effectiveness of digital political campaigns in increasing the electability of prospective candidates in the 2019 presidential and vice-presidential general elections. We identify the strategies and tactics used by candidates and their campaign teams in utilizing digital technology to achieve their political goals, as well as the impact digital political campaigns on public perception and the final results of the general election. Using qualitative analysis methods, we collect data from various social media platforms and apply content analysis to understand the influence of digital political campaigns. The research results show that digital political campaigns have a significant impact in increasing the electability of prospective candidates, by increasing visibility, recognition and interaction with voters through social media. In addition, we also discuss other factors that influence election outcomes, such as the participation of young voters, the potential for polarization, and the influence of dynastic politics. Thus, this analysis provides in-depth insight into the role of digital technology in contemporary politics and its implications for democracy and the general election process in Indonesia.

Succession of Regional Heads Based on Kinship Relations Judging Concept of the Pancasila Legal State

<p>This research aims to examine in depth the existence of succession for Regional Heads using kinship relations in terms of the concept of the rule of law and formulate the implications of succession for Regional Heads based on kinship relations for the implementation of government duties in the region in the context of the rule of law. Indonesia, as stated in its constitution, adheres to the concept of a rule of law, this is attached to Article 1 paragraph (3) of the 1945 Constitution "Indonesia is a rule of law". One indicator of the application of the concept of the rule of law in a sovereign state is the limitation of power in administering the state. The problem studied in this research is related to how the succession of Regional Heads is related to kinship relations in terms of the concept of the rule of law. The research method used in this research is normative juridical, where the author examines through literature study and analyzes based on various relevant literature. Succession of Regional Heads based on kinship relations in Indonesia has recently become a disturbing phenomenon. As an effort to limit the existence of dynastic politics, this has been done by issuing "Law Number 8 of 2015 concerning Amendments to Law Number 1 of 2015 concerning the Determination of PERPPU Number 1 of 2014 concerning the Election of Governors, Regents and Mayors, especially in Article 7 letter r" However, this provision was canceled by the Constitutional Court with the issuance of "Constitutional Court Decision Number 33/PUU-XIII/2015". So, the absence of regulations that provide restrictions on this phenomenon has caused the succession of Regional Heads based on kinship relations to become a bad precedent in state administration Rampant updates to this research are expected by the government and the DPR to issue regulations that place restrictions on incumbents being involved in conflicts of interest in the succession of regional heads who have kinship relationships</p>

Perspektif Islam Tentang Dinasti Politik (Studi Kasus Isu Dinasti Politik Tahun 2023-2024)

Dynastic politics is a phenomenon that is currently being discussed by Indonesian people amid the 2024 presidential election campaign. This dynastic politics became a trending topic after the Indonesian president's son ran for vice president. The importance of finding a balance between political stability and justice is a major concern in addressing this issue. There are efforts from several elements of society and political activists to advocate for political reform that creates a more transparent and fair system. Therefore, the study of political dynasties that occurred in Indonesia needs to be studied more deeply. The article aims to describe and analyze the issue of political dynasties in Indonesia with a focus on the Islamic political context. This research is a qualitative literature review research with a phenomenological approach to research phenomena that are currently occurring. This research includes an analysis of the historical, structural, and ongoing social impacts of political dynasties within the framework of Islamic politics. The results of this research show that the issue of dynastic politics in Indonesia in 2023-2024 presents complex challenges, especially when viewed from an Islamic political perspective. By understanding these dynamics and seeking solutions that are in line with the principles of justice and democracy, Indonesia can steer itself toward a more inclusive and sustainable political system. In dealing with the issue of dynastic politics, aspects of accountability and transparency become a significant focus from an Islamic political perspective. These principles are considered crucial in protecting power and ensuring political action is by Islamic values. Through this research, it is hoped that it can open people's views to raise calls for political transformation and reform that reflects Islamic values ​​and leads to more just, transparent, and participatory political governance.

Gendering Late Medieval Habsburg Dynastic Politics: Maximilian I and His Social Networks

Abstract While gender history has developed into a powerful branch of premodern history, we still know little about gender relations around Maximilian I. One reason is that research concentrated for a long time on the individual personality of the emperor without paying much attention to the manifold relations among men and women that in fact contributed to establishing his rule. Another reason is the specific constellations of Maximilian's relationships with his wives Mary of Burgundy and Bianca Maria Sforza, with his daughter Margaret of Austria and grand-daughter Mary of Hungary, which have been mostly discussed in the framework of their personal courts and regional politics and less in a wider comparative perspective. Against the backdrop of recent approaches to dynastic politics, role models, and agency, I will, first, discuss the gendered dimensions of Maximilian's dynastic politics in their wider geo-political and socio-cultural context. I will, second, move beyond a focus on key dynastic actors to take into account personal networks as fundamental for any type of premodern rule. The irony of Indonesia's democracy: The rise of dynastic politics in the post-Suharto era

This essay aims to study why politicians engage in dynastic politics within democratic institutions and how they reject institutional changes that may limit their ability to pass on political power to family members. While scholars have emphasized institutions as an enabling factor, it is unclear how the power struggle manifested to preserve the institutions that continually suit the interests of aspiring dynasts amidst the democracy shift and pressure. This study seeks to fill the gap by delving into how political players struggle to preserve the structures that allow them to form political dynasties. This study also presents an original empirical conclusion demonstrating that Indonesian political dynasties more than tripled between 2010 and 2018, or in only one election cycle. This study contends that the primary cause of the rapid growth of political dynasties in Indonesia is inextricably related to the gradual institutional changes following Indonesia's democratic transition in 1998. In the process, the parasitic symbionts—i.e. the aspiring dynasts—were able to make institutional drifts.

Understanding layered dominance of political dynasties in India: A de-hyphenated reading of dynastic representation and dynasty-led parties

India has witnessed the dominance of a plethora of political dynasties, both at the national as well as the state level, since independence. The post-colonial Indian state adopted a liberal constitutional democracy premised upon modern representative institutions. However, the primordial principle of hereditary succession of power resiliently co-existed in the form of powerful political families that have continued to impact the nature of Indian democratic political discourse till today. The political parties are an instrumental driver of political life in all modern representative democracies including India. Hence, it is crucial to study how the Indian party system has consolidated the prominence of political dynasties especially from the 1970s onwards, in the realm of both party organisation and the representative institutions. In this context, the article attempts to problematise the nature of dynastic politics in India and offers a framework to analyse the causes of its dominance to understand how it impacts the right to equal political opportunity and electoral competitiveness. The article makes three arguments. First, to better understand the amorphous nature of dynastic politics, two elements – dynastic representation in elected institutions and dynasty-led parties – need to be studied distinctively, despite some commonalities. Second, dynastic representation is largely ubiquitous in most political parties (in both dynasty-led and non-dynasty-led parties) due to the party's preference for legacy candidates and their higher chances of electoral winnability. Third, the article offers two typologies of dynasty-led parties, explaining why the dynasties’ grip over their parties, particularly in recent times, appears to be mostly performance-immune and in what circumstances some dynasty-led parties not only perform better in electoral contests than others but also face tough competition for retaining their dynastic control over the party. Lastly, the article concludes with some reflections on how dynastic representation and dynasty-led parties impact the form and substance of the Indian party system and democratic politics.

FEMALE CANDIDATES AND THE BANGLADESH PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

The number of female MPs elected by direct vote in Bangladesh's Parliament is abysmally low due to the low level of female candidates in the parliamentary elections. This study addresses the underrepresentation of female candidates in the election following the supply- and demand-side model of Norris and Lovenduski. We focus on the continuing patriarchal social and political culture, dynastic politics, campaign funding, and violence as supply-side factors and political parties and nominations, quotas/reserved seats, and rule compliance as demand-side factors that affect the candidate nomination process in Bangladesh. The article is based on semi-structured interviews with female and male MPs of the Bangladesh Parliament and aspirant female politicians who hold different party positions. The study argues that the patriarchal nature of politics and culture controls the supply and demand-side factors of candidate selection and discriminates against female candidates to vie in the general constituencies.

Deinstitutionalization of the Congress ‘party system’ in Indian competitive politics

The conference in Poona that led to the foundation of Indian National Congress in 1885 aimed to serve as the germ of a native parliament to provide a reply to the assertion that India was still unfit for any form of representative institution. It spearheaded the Indian independence movement and post 1947 ushered in a ‘Congress system’ of one-party dominance that represented a historical consensus with few parallels in any political party system in the world. Dialectical contradiction has been a historic recurrence in the Congress as ‘personality cults’ of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi in the early years and a ‘high command culture’ later on decimated its hegemonic power in competitive party politics. The Congress declined due to a deficit of political vision, lack of forward-thinking ideas, engagement in competitive pseudo-secularism and diminishing electoral returns of dynastic (Nehru-Gandhi) politics. The institutionalization of BJP as a dominant party in 2014 coincided with the deinstitutionalization of the Congress party system. The grand old party needs to relegitimize itself by revamping its ideology, formulating a populist model of governance, creating son-of-the-soil leadership, revitalizing the party system, re-engaging with citizens, altering its politics to meritocracy and embracing new age electoral grammar.

KINSHIP POLITICS AND EMBODIMENT CONCEPT OF GOOD GOVERNANCE: TABANAN DISTRICT CASE STUDY

This research is a neo-institutionalism analysis study to political dynasty issue in the accordance with the embodiment concept of good governance in Tabanan district. As it is known that after the reformation, Tabanan was led by the same family generation. By focusing on the health service sector, this study will look at to what extent the dynastic politics has an impact on the public policy sector and the realization of good governance. In general, the health service policy pursued by the Tabanan Regency government is a non-populist policy. The local government chose to build international hospital rather than providing free health services for the poor. All this time, the study about political dynasty and the effect to the public policy sector in Tabanan is only seen as a mere political problem without looking at the deep state structure, the normative function and culture in it. This study found that there are a conflict between sociological institution, historical institution, and rational choice institution behind the strong dynastic politics as well as the struggles in realizing good governance in Tabanan Regency.

This study discusses the dynastic politics of the descendants of Prince Muhammad Arsyad and how the ability of the Muhammad Arsyad breed in terms of leading and managing the village of Tambang Rambang kec. Rambang Kuang kab. Ogan Ilir. The purpose of this study is to find out how dynastic politics can gain power and maintain power in the village of Tambang Rambang. In this study, the authors used descriptive qualitative research methods, by conducting observations at the research site and collecting data from images, texts and interviews. The formulation of the problem that the author proposes is: how is the politics of the dynasty of Prince Muhammad Arsyad and the ability to manage leadership in the village of Tambang Rambang? In order to answer these research questions, the author uses dynastic political theory and supporting theories, namely social capital and capital (economic) capital. The theory of dynastic politics is used to see how to gain and maintain power. The theory of social capital and capital is used as a tool to win every village head election in Tambang Rambang village. An important finding in this study is that to control the political stage in Tambang Rambang village it is not enough to have blood relations but must have the ability and strengthen the mastery of social capital. economy in the village.

Kepemimpinan Lokal dan Ketahanan Ekonomi di Era Pandemi: Studi Kasus Desa Janti, Kecamatan Waru, Kabupaten Sidoarjo

The purpose of this study was to determine the efforts of the Village Head to utilize social capital, political and cultural capital of the community in improving the economy and to analyze the economic resilience of rural communities in the Covid19 pandemic era. To be able to answer the formulation of the problem, the author uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection techniques are in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The theory used in this study is Randall G. Holcombe's Political Entrepreneurship theory. The results of the study, the village head utilizes social, political, economic and cultural capital through an e-commerce service in the form of e-market and pitulungan-e in collaboration with BUMDes and the community to improve the community in the creative economy. The village head of Janti provides technology education by socializing e-market e-commerce and e-pitulungan for the community. The head of the Janti village also applies transparency to BUMDes to remove dynastic politics in Janti village. The economic resilience in Janti village during the pandemic is illustrated by the existence of e-market e-commerce. In addition, the daily income of the community reaches IDR20,000 to IDR50,000 from sales of e-market e-commerce. There is a profit which is distributed 50% to the community by the BUMDes civil welfare. The community becomes social and creative in the economic and does not experience the impact of a large economic downturn during the pandemic

Zhu Yousi: The Life and Times of a Prince in 16th Century Ming China

The Ming Dynasty imposed all-encompassing restrictions upon its princely population. Princes were effectively barred from participation in dynastic politics, from entering the civil service examinations in pursuit of office, and from undertaking common livelihoods. Many princes thus turned to alternative means of fulfilment or drifted toward dissolution; Zhu Yousi, an ambitious prince in Huguang Province, strove to function beyond these constraints. This article recounts his life and relationship with the Ming princely institution. It first studies his engagement with the Jiajing Emperor during the Great Ritual Controversy in 1521 and his advocacy for princes’ socio-economic freedom. It then examines his downfall in 1525 as well as the events which occasioned his redemption in 1539. Overall, this article situates Zhu Yousi’s story not only within narratives concerning Ming princes and their political activities, but also within an expanding corpus of scholarship which challenges traditional caricatures of princely debauchery.
