Parameters and performance analysis of a dual stator composite rotor axial flux induction motor by an analytical method

This study proposes a novel dual stator composite rotor axial flux induction motor (DSCRAFIM) whose solid rotor is coated with copper layers. A novel multi-slice and multi-layer method is developed and applied to analyse the three-dimensional electromagnetic field distribution in DSCRAFIM. In the application of this analytical method, DSCRAFIM is equivalent to a finite set of equal-width and increasing-length double primary composite secondary linear induction motors, whose steel secondary is divided into a finite set of equal-height layers. The surface impedance theory is applied to derive the improved equivalent circuit model (IECM) of DSCRAFIM, which considers the coupling relationship between dual stator windings. The accuracy of this IECM is then verified by both finite-element analysis and experimental test.

Independent Control of a Dual Induction Motors Drives Control Based on Indirect Field Vector Oriented Method

To reduce the cost and the system complexity in power applications, voltage source five leg space vector pulse width modulation inverter (FLI) is designed to drive dual induction motors. This paper presents independent control of dual induction motor fed by five leg inverter. Indirect field oriented control is used separate by each motor. Two space vector pulse width modulator is utilized to generate the switching signal for FLI and a double zero sequence modulation technique (DZS) is employed to generate the modulation signals. Two motors operate under different operation condition where the result proven that dual induction motor can independently controlled by FLI.

Model predictive control of a dual induction motor drive fed by a single voltage source inverter

In dual induction motor control applications, averaging of controlled variables, mean circuit models, or master/slave strategies are used, which lead to unbalanced and unstable operation of the overall drive system. An improved finite control set predictive torque control (FCS-PTC) method is proposed for the parallel operation of two induction motors. The optimization cost function of the controller is shown to meet multiple objectives simultaneously, eliminating the use of averaging techniques and without leading to unbalanced conditions. The simulation results are compared with direct torque control (DTC) for dual induction motors. As compared to DTC, model predictive control shows low torque and flux ripple, 5{\%} lower current THD, improved current balancing between the motors, and negligible effect of parameter mismatch.

Single Inverter Fed Speed Sensorless Vector Control of Parallel Connected Two Motor Drive

This paper describes a speed sensorless vector control method of the torque for cost-effective parallel-connected dual induction motor fed by a single inverter. A natural observer with load torque adaptation is employed to estimate the speeds of the same rating induction motors connected in parallel and fed by a single inverter. The speed difference between the two induction motors for unbalanced load conditions is less in natural observer than the conventional adaptive rotor flux observer. Direct field oriented control is used to calculate the rotor angle from the estimated rotor fluxes and the mean rotor flux is kept constant by rotor flux feedback control. The simulation and experimental results of studies are demonstrated for various running conditions to prove the effectiveness of the proposed method. The closed loop speed control operation with inner current control was performed by TMS320F2812 processor.

Design and Implementation of an FPGA-based Real-time Simulator for a Dual Three-Phase Induction Motor Drive

This paper presents a digital hardware implementation of a real-time simulator for a multiphase drive using a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) device. The simulator was developed with a modular and hierarchical design using very high-speed integrated circuit hardware description language (VHDL). Hence, this simulator is flexible and portable. A state-space representation model suitable for FPGA implementations was proposed for a dual three-phase induction machine (DTPIM). The simulator also models a two-level 12-pulse insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT)-based voltage-source converter (VSC), a pulse-width modulation scheme, and a measurement system. Real-time simulation outputs (stator currents and rotor speed) were validated under steady-state and transient conditions using as reference an experimental test bench based on a DTPIM with 15 kW-rated power. The accuracy of the proposed digital hardware implementation was evaluated according to the simulation and experimental results. Finally, statistical performance parameters were provided to analyze the efficiency of the proposed DTPIM hardware implementation method.

A novel over-modulation strategy for dual three-phase induction motor drive system

In this article, a novel strategy for dual three-phase converter operating in the over-modulation region is proposed. The strategy enables the magnitude of inverter output voltage a linear output with modulation index varying in both fundamental and harmonic components. In the proposed algorithm, the functional relationship between modulation index and the fundamental or harmonic voltage magnitude can be described by equations. It is a single-mode over-modulation strategy avoiding storing massive correlation data between modulation index and hold angle, which indicates the proposed algorithm is suitable for digital implementation. Furthermore, this strategy extends the range of operation of the power converter from linear-modulation range to 12-step operation with a smooth and linear transition characteristic, while stator harmonic current is suppressed based on a vector decomposition technique.

Equivalence Between Squirrel Cage and Sheet Rotor Induction Motor

Due to topological changes in dual stator induction motor and high cost of its fabrication, it is convenient to replace the squirrel cage rotor with a composite sheet rotor. For an experimental machine, the inner and outer stator stampings are normally available whereas the procurement of rotor stampings is quite cumbersome and is not always cost effective. In this paper, the equivalence between sheet/solid rotor induction motor and squirrel cage induction motor has been investigated using layer theory of electrical machines, so as to enable one to utilize sheet/solid rotor in dual port experimental machines.

Control strategy of a dual induction motor: Anti-slip control application

The paper deals with a Dual Induction Motor control. A control strategy based on the Average Differential Control (ADC) is developed and adapted to work as an anti-slip control in a railway traction system. In addition to cancel the behaviour deviation between the motors supplied by a single inverter in case of an adhesion loss (or an unbalanced load), the proposed control strategy permits an action on the torque control to cancel the differential torque between the two motors. The control strategy is validated on a laboratory test bench with a Mechanical Railway Traction Load Emulator.

A Neural Network Based Speed Control of a Dual Star Induction Motor

This paper propose the use of artificial neural networks to control the speed of a Double Star Induction Motor drives fed by a two matrix converter using Venturini modulation algorithm, The advent of the field oriented with modern speed control technique has partially solved DSIM control problems because it is sensitive to drive parameter variations and performance may deteriorate if conventional controllers are used. Neural network based controller is considered as potential candidates for such an application. The Weighted Vector Control of Speed-Irrelevant Dual Induction Motors Fed by the Single Inverter

To improve the control performance of unbalanced load of parallel-connected dual induction motors fed by a single inverter, a novel control strategy based on the weighted vector control is proposed. In this paper, a weighted flux linkage vector model of dual induction motors is developed, and then the control expressions of weighted rotor flux linkage and summation torque of dual speed-irrelevant motors are derived. The weight value of vector control for dual induction motors in unbalanced load is distributed automatically according to the torques and motor speeds. The experimental results in multiple induction motor platforms prove that the proposed method can start in a wide load range, especially at heavy unbalanced load and improves the performance of dynamic response with a sudden change of unbalanced load.

Research on Rotor Field Oriented Control of Dual-Three Phase Induction Machine

In this paper, the mathematical model of dual three-phase induction motor is constructed based on space vector decomposition. The rotor field oriented control of the motor is then proposed. The simulation model of the motor is constructed in Matlab/Simulink/PLECS software. Simulation systems of the start-up transient and the rotor field oriented control of the motor are established. The simulation results validate the model and the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

Direct Torque Control for Double Star Induction Motor

This paper describes a direct torque control (DTC) of dual star induction motor (DSIM). This machine possesses several advantages over conventional three-phase machine and is also known as the six-phase induction machine. The research has been underway for the last two decades to investigate the various issues related to the use of six-phase machine as a potential alternative to the conventional three-phase machine. Though six-phase machines have existed for some time, in the literature very few papers discuss DTC for six-phase motors. Therefore, in this work an investigation is reserved to the application of this type of control to the DSIM. The DTC uses the instantaneous values of voltage vector where each reference voltage vector is computed with a simple DTC algorithm. Finally, simulations results obtained from MatLab/Simulink are presented followed by a discussion.

Speed Control of Dual Induction Motor using Fuzzy Controller

This paper demonstrates the speed control of dual induction motor using fuzzy logic controller under unbalanced load conditions. The process for finding weighed vector value for controlling the dual induction motor is presented. The modeling of dual induction motor is also described. The simulation is done in the MATLAB platform to study the effectiveness of the weighed vector control. The study reveals that the fuzzy controller improves the weighed vector speed control of dual induction motor.
