The development of multifunctional polymer coatings is an important step towards more efficient, and sustainable industrial materials. In this study, we utilized green tannic acid functionalized MXene/Black phosphorus (BP) to fabricate 2D/2D nanostructured filler (PMXBP), which was subsequently mixed with waterborne epoxy (WEP) resin to generate binary colloidal dispersions for the preparation of nanocomposite coatings. The results demonstrated that the incorporation of 1 wt% PMXBP nanofiller yielded a notable improvement in the anti-corrosion, tribological, and flame-retardant properties of coatings. Specifically, the constant phase element (double-layer capacitance, CPEdl) of PMXBP/WEP was approximately three orders of magnitude lower than that of the pure coating, the wear rate was reduced by 93.51% compared to the pure coating, and the peak heat release rate (PHRR) was lowered by 42.41% relative to the pure coating. This high-performance and multi-functional coating exhibits significant potential for application in various fields, including building construction, electronics, transportation, etc.
