THE coatings industry is fortunate in what it has practically no reconversion problems. Notwithstanding, considerable expansion of plant facilities is planned or under way in line with the billion-dollar annual market anticipated by informed sources. New construction and property maintenance which have been necessarily neglected during the war years and the industrial finishes for transportation, machinery, and household equipment will account for the greater share of this expanded volume. Throughout the year, emphasis in several directions has been given to the technical side of products and production methods to meet the new requirements of consumer and industry. Raw Materials Drying oils are still difficult to obtain and the industry is operating on a 75% quota restriction due to world conditions.
